I purchased a 2017 Hyundai Santa Fe June 2021 Upon completion of my oil change 12/1 I was told there was a oil leak and the oil wasn't going to stay in, I drove home under 20mph because my engine wouldn't allow me to go any faster. The next day it was towed to a Hyundai dealership close to home, Hyundai denied the first claim because they said it was the oil change companies fault. I then called the warranty company and the adjuster came out examined the car he found out that wasn't the case, it was internal damage cause by the manufacturer. Botls came loose that cracked something and metal chips got into my engine. My extended warranty denied covering it because it wasn't basic engine failure it was cause by the production of the vehicle and the faulty bolts that internally damage itself. I resubmitted the claim to Hyundai for repairs since we know now it wasnt outside negligence and the extended warranty company wasn't going to cover it. The advisor told me the second claim was denied as well , after speaking to the consumer affairs department myself they still denied having any part and the faulty engine. I'm in a Facebook community group and these people are going through this daily with Hyundai they are putting bad engines in cars once the original owner finds out they're trading them in and the second owner buys them in the car fails we aren't covered under the powertrain warranty because it only applies to the first owner. Hyundai is ripping people off and stealing our hard worked for money and getting away with it! They're picking and choosing who the engine failure class action lawsuit applies to even though we all have bad failed engines! I have been stuck making payments on a car for 3 months that I cannot drive and I owe $18,000 on a totaled car and they care nothing about goodwill and helping their customers who have spent thousands on their cars.
My 2017 Santa Fe's engine seized in 2019 at about 46K miles while I was going up a large hill. The entire vehicle began shaking, the oil light came on and then the vehicle lost power in bumper to bumper traffic. Fortunately a large truck behind me moved to act and nudged me up the rest of the hill with his truck so I could pull over safely. Hyundai replaced that engine after a few months and then replaced the turbo because they noticed that was failing even after engine replacement. This was prior to the class action lawsuits. My vehicle is now at about 64K miles with less than 15 on the new engine and turbo. In Fall of 2022, I got an oil change, took a quick short road trip later that day and on the way back with my family, the engine oil light came on. We pulled over and saw that the oil had mostly leaked out so we found a good Samaritan who helped get us oil to top it off so we could get home safely. I took it back to the oil change location the next day, thinking they had made a mistake and they advised the leak was due to my turbo failing. They took several pictures of the source of the leak and told me to get it to the dealer ASAP to prevent further leak, risk of fire or engine seizure. I towed the vehicle in.Hyundai advised it would be 6 weeks before they take a look at my vehicle. In addition, they offered no recourse or alternative transport while waiting for a determination despite the extended warranties that apply to my situation. They sent me a form to allow them to start the repair with no estimate attached and with a total waiver of my rights to join a class action suit but they haven't even looked at the vehicle. Not only am I worried about my safety, with a second engine failure, I am also worried they are sneaking in clauses to strip consumers of their rights.
2017 Santa Fe Ultimate with 70,000 miles experienced known oil consumption problem which we monitored and topped off regularly. While driving at approx. 35 MPH, car went into limp mode. Towed (flat bed) to local garage where they confirmed metal shavings in the oil and suggested repairs based on computer diagnostic. Replaced timing chain and some other engine parts. Car driven approx. 100 miles after repairs when engine completely seized (again at low speed in neighborhood). Towed to local dealership for diagnostic on Oct 26, 2021. Dealer confirm engine was seized and needed to be replaced. They also indicated possible AWD differential damage but not able to confirm as car is not currently drivable. 10yr/100,000 powertrain warranty not honored as we were not the original owners. Hyundai offered to cover 65% of engine cost (good will offer), but we are required to pay at least $8,100 of the engine repairs (dealer verbal quote) plus any cost related to differential repairs needed. Est 3 months to complete engine replacement and stated zero warranty on the replacement engine. As of Jan 29, 2022 still no update from dealership as to when car will be available.
BOUGHT HYUNDAI SANTE FE SPORT 2017 36,871 MILES ON 09-23-2019 DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGE 03-06-20 MILES 41104 DEALERSHIP OIL CHANGE, 03-03-21 MILES 47409 OIL VERY LOW AND DARK IN COLOR. DEALERSHIP REQUESTING OIL CONSUMPTION TEST EVERY 1000 MILES, 04-01-21 1.5 QUARTS LOW. I HAVE TO DO 2 MORE TEST, THIS IS A SKIRT AROUND THE PROBLEM, AND AN ENGINE FLUSH FOR SLUDGE, MORE SKIRTING THE PROBLEM. MY WARRANTY EXPIRES IN 6 WEEKS!
The engine is consuming oil. After 1500 miles since my last oil change the oil DOES NOT show up on the oil stick. I have bought 3 brand new Hyundai Santa Fe's and 1 used Sonata, and NEVER had problems, except for my 2017 Santa Fe Sport, which I purchased at Dondelinger Hyundai in Baxter, Minnesota. I have also had to replace the backup camera. I have been to this dealer 4 times with no resolve! Please help!!
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY FAILED TO ACCELERATE WHILE DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. AFTER TURNING OFF AND RESTARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VEHICLE OPERATED AS INTENDED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE LOCAL DEALER PARKWAY HYUNDAI LOCATED AT 5920 MARKET ST A, WILMINGTON, NC 28405 BUT THE FAILURE COULD NOT BE DUPLICATED AND THE CAUSE OF THE FAILURE WAS NOT YET DETERMINED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT YET NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.
I HAVE HAD ON AT LEAST A HALF DOZEN TIMES WHERE THE VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE AFTER STOPPING, AND THEN ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. FOR EXAMPLE: LEAVING A PARKING LOT GOING ONTO A ROADWAY ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE QUICKLY TO GET UP TO THE SPEED LIMIT. ATTEMPTING TO TURN LEFT AT A FLASHING RED LEFT TURN LANE TRAFFIC LIGHT. THE VEHICLE WILL ROLL ABOUT 10-20', BUT WILL NOT ACCELERATE, LIKE THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT ENGAGING. SOMETIMES THE ENGINE WILL REV TO 4000-5000RPMS. I WILL QUICKLY LET OFF OF THE THROTTLE, THEN IT WILL TAKE OFF. THE ENGINE DOES NOT REV EVERY TIME. THE DEALERSHIP REPLACED A MODULE ON THE TRANSMISSION APPROXIMATELY ONE YEAR AGO, BUT IT DID NOT HELP. THEY HAD IT FOR ONE DAY IN JULY 2020, ATTEMPTING TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, BUT TO NO AVAIL. THE MOST RECENT INCIDENT WITH THE VEHICLE WHERE THIS FAILURE TO ACCELERATE OCCURRED WAS 12/26/2020, WHERE UPON LEAVING A SERVICE STATION ONTO A FOUR LANE ROAD, IT ONCE AGAIN ROLLED TO 10-15 MPH, BUT WOULD NOT GO WHILE THE ENGINE RPMS WENT TO 4000. AS TRAFFIC WAS RAPIDLY APPROACHING I KEPT MY FOOT ON THE THROTTLE, AND IT FINALLY STARTED PICKING UP SPEED. THIS IS GETTING TO BE A DANGEROUS VEHICLE TO DRIVE.
THIS VEHICLE HAS A INTERMITTENT ACCELERATION PROBLEM WHICH CAUSES A DELAY IN THE VEHICLE MOVEMENT. THE DEALER STATED THEY CANNOT DUPLICATE THE PROBLEM HOWEVER THE ISSUE DOES EXIST. MANY OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AS I READ ON LINE.
THERE HAS BEEN SOME ENGINE NOISE FOR 2 MONTHS OR SO. . I THEN HAD AN OIL LEAK AND THE DEALER SAID THAT THE ENGINE NOISE WAS FROM CRANKSHAFT AND MAYBE A BEARING INSIDE. I HAVE 74, 000 MILES ON VEHICLE AND HAVE A 10 YEAR 125000 MILE EXTENDED WARRANTY. I WAS AT THE DEALER TODAY AND THEY GAVE ME THE NEWS ABOUT MAYBE CRANKSHAFT BEARING. THE HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY HAS A RECALL ON YOUR SITE ABOUT 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE HAVING DEFECT IN A PIN IN THE CRANKSHAFT THAT WEARS THE BEARING. THIS SEEMS LIKE EXACTLY WHAT DEALER IS TELLING ME. MY QUESTION IS , THE RECALL SAYS THAT HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY RECALLED 420 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE'S THAT WERE PRODUCED BETWEEN JANUARY 26 2017 AND FEBRUARY 13 2017. MY SANTA FE WAS ACTUALLY PRODUCED ON JANUARY 14 2017, WHICH IS ONLY 12 DAYS PRIOR TO THE START OF THE OFFICIAL RECALL PRODUCTION DATE OF JANUARY 26. HOW DOES HYUNDAI MOTOR COMPANY KNOW THAT MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PRODUCED WITH THIS FAULTY PIN IN THE CRANKSHAFT THAT CAUSES BEARING FAILURE? WHEN THE VEHICLE IS STOPPED, AND WHEN STARTING TO ACCELERATE, THERE ARE TIMES WHEN I'LL EXPERIENCE A 1-2 SECOND DELAY OR HESITATION, BEFORE THE ENGINE/TRANSMISSION ENGAGE. THIS SEEMS TO OCCUR MOSTLY WHEN THE WHEELS ARE IN A TURNED POSITION. IT CAN BE A FRIGHTENING EXPERIENCE AT AN INTERSECTION, WITH NO POWER. THIS HAS OCCURRED APPROXIMATELY A DOZEN TIMES.
ON MARCH , 19 2019 AROUND 5:00AM I WAS ON MY WAY TO WORK LIKE NORMAL. AS I WAS GETTING ON THE FREEWAY AT ABOUT 45 MILES PER HOUR MY CAR SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING. I HAD NO POWER STEERING BUT I COASTED TO A STOP IN THE RIGHT LANE OF FREEWAY TURNED MY CAR BACK ON AND DROVE ABOUT 500 FEET AND THE SAME THING HAPPEN BUT THIS TIME IT WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. THERE IS A FEW SECONDS OF HESITATION WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE AT TIMES. FROM A DEAD STOP OR A SLOW ROLL WHEN TURNING, THE CAR WILL MOVE IN SLOW MOTION ONLY AND THE ANTI SLIP INDICATOR COMES ON LIKE YOU ARE ON A SLIPPERY SURFACE EVEN WHEN IT'S DRY. THEN IT ACCELERATES SUDDENLY. WE HAVE COME CLOSE TO HAVING SEVERAL ACCIDENTS BECAUSE OF THIS. WE HAVE TAKEN OUR VEHICLE IN OVER 5 TIMES AND THE SERVICE DEPARTMENTS AT TWO DEALERSHIPS SAY THEY CANNOT REPLICATE IT AND BRUSH US OFF. THIS IS A HUGE ISSUE AND NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED.
I PURCHASED A USED 2017 SANTA FE AWD ON 11/06/2019. THE CAR FAILED TO START ON THE FIRST ATTEMPT AT A GAS STATION -- THE FIRST TIME IT HAS HAPPENED AFTER PURCHASING THE CAR. IT STARTED ON THE SECOND ATTEMPT, THE CAR DROVE SMOOTHLY TO THE DMV FOR REGISTRATION. ABOUT 1-2 HOURS OF DRIVING, THE CAR STALLED IN TOWN DESPITE ACCELERATING WITH RPMS GREATER 3. THE CAR BECAME RESPONSIVE ONLY AFTER STOPPING AND RESTARTING AT THE CURB. I NOTICED A STEADY CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON THE DASHBOARD FOR THE FIRST TIME AFTER THE INCIDENT AND HAVE BEEN HAVING A JERKY RIDE EXPERIENCE EVER SINCE. A CALL TO BLUELINK CONFIRMED THAT THE CAR REQUIRES A THOROUGH SYSTEM CHECK INVOLVING THE POWER TRAIN AT THE DEALERSHIP. AN APPOINTMENT HAS BEEN FOR 12/4/2019 AND THE CAR HAS BEEN PARKED.

SEVERE HESITATION WHEN COMING OUT OF A SHARP TURN. ALSO HAPPENS UPON ACCELERATION AFTER A TRAFFIC LIGHT. HAPPENING MORE FREQUENTLY AS TIME GOES ON CURRENTLY 13K MILES ON VEHICLE. HAPPENS ALMOST EVERY DRIVING TRIP BUT PUT TODAYS DATE ON IT AS IT HAPPENED LAST TODAY 8/1/18.
HAD THIS SANTA FE FOR A LITTLE OVER A YEAR. I HAVE NOTICED SEVERAL INSTANCES OF NOT BEING ABLE TO ACCELERATE, OR GAIN SPEED, ESPECIALLY WHEN TURNING OR STARTING FROM A STOPPED POSITION, IT HESITATES TO START TO THE POINT OF ALMOST BEING HIT SEVERAL TIMES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO DEALER MANY TIMES, AND THEY KEEP TELLING ME ITS THE WAY I AM DRIVING IT THAT THE ENGINE IS LIKE A STANDARD VEHICLE, BUT THAT DOESNT SEEM SAFE TO ME IF I AM TRYING TO START DRIVING AND IT WONT GO. WHEN IT DOES FINALLY DECIDE TO GO, IT TAKES OFF WAY TOO FAST AND IS LIKE, IT FINALLY DECIDES TO SHIFT INTO GEAR. ALSO WHILE IN PARK, ENGINE REVS TO 2500RPM FOR NO REASON OR IDOLS AT THAT RPM. IT FEELS LIKE THE ENGINE IS PULLING THE CAR FORWARD EVEN WHEN IT IS IN PARK I HAVE BEEN GIVEN THE RUN AROUND SO MANY TIMES, I AM TIRED OF IT. I'M NOT HAPPY TO SEE OTHERS HAVE THIS ISSUE, BUT I AM ALSO GLAD THAT OTHERS ARE EXPERIENCING THE SAME PROBLEMS.
ENGINE STALLING AT SLOW SPEEDS. FURTHER, AT SLOW SPEEDS, THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT DELAY OF SEVERAL SECONDS FOR POWER DELIVERY. FOR EXAMPLE, IF DRIVING SLOWLY, SAY AT 5 MPH, AND POWER IS NEEDED IMMEDIATELY (SUCH AS IN AN EMERGENCY OR A LANE CHANGE SITUATION), NOTHING HAPPENS FOR OVER 3 SECONDS WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL IS DEPRESSED, FOLLOWED BY A DANGEROUS LURCH WHEN POWER IS DELIVERED SUDDENLY. THIS IS A HIGHLY DANGEROUS AND UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION. I SPOKE TO THE DEALER, WHO DISMISSED MY COMPLAINT AND CLAIMED THAT "ALL CARS ARE THE SAME THESE DAYS". THIS IS A REGULAR PROBLEM THAT OCCURS MULTIPLE TIMES EVERY DAY.
THE 2017 HYUNDAI SANTA FE LIMITED WILL BOG DOWN WHEN STARTING FROM A STOPPED OR LOW SPEED WHILE TRYING TO MERGE INTO TRAFFIC OR TURNING. THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT HESITATION - ALMOST TO THE POINT OF STOPPING WHILE MERGING - VERY SIGNIFICANT SAFETY ISSUE. BEEN AN ONGOING PROBLEM SINCE BOUGHT 5/31/16
WE BOUGHT A 2017 SANTA FE SPORT WITH THE 2.0 T ENGINE IN JULY OF 2017. IT HAS ABOUT 5,000 MILES ON IT AND HAS NOW STARTED TO HESITATE BADLY WHEN TRYING TO ACCELERATE WHEN TURNING. IT SEEMS AS THOUGH IT EITHER LOSES POWER OR THE TRANSMISSION IS NOT IN THE CORRECT GEAR. THE RESULT IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION WHEN TRY TO TURN ONTO A ROAD WITH TRAFFIC. WE ARE GOING TO CALL THE DEALERSHIP WERE WE PURCHASED THE CAR TO SEE IF THERE IS ANY FIX. I SEE FROM OTHER COMPLAINTS THIS IS TURNING OUT TO BE A COMMON ISSUE.
SOMETIMES AFTER SLOWING TO MAKE A TURN THE CAR'S ENGINE SEEMS TO "STUMBLE" FOR A SECOND BEFORE ACCELERATION CAN BEGIN. COMES AS A SURPRISE AND BECAUSE OF THE HESITATION CATCHING ME OFF-GUARD I AM PITCHED FORWARD IN MY SEAT. NOTHING CATASTROPHIC, BUT VERY ANNOYING AND COULD BE DANGEROUS TO A DRIVER NOT KNOWLEDGEABLE ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A BRAND NEW CAR AND I NOTICED THIS PROBLEM AFTER ONLY A DAY OR TWO OF OWNERSHIP. I SUSPECT THIS IS A SOFTWARE ISSUE AND CAN BE FIXED WITH A REFLASH OF THE ECU, BUT THAT'S JUST MY BEST GUESS. HAVE NOT CONTACTED THE DEALERSHIP YET, BUT THOUGHT I'D FILE THIS COMPLAINT FIRST TO SEE IF A RECALL CAN BE ISSUED TO FIX THIS PROBLEM.
