WHEN TURNING STEERING WHEEL THERE'S A CLUNKING NOISE. IT HAPPENS WHEN STATIONARY, OR WHEN DRIVING AND TURNING. HAD A WORN STEERING COUPLER REPLACED 1-10-19. HAVING SAME NOISE. NOW THEY SAY IT'S THE STEERING SHAFT AND IT'S GOING TO COST $420. THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS.
STEERING WHEEL MAKES CLICKING NOISE WHILE TURNING THE WHEEL TO LEFT. NOISE ALSO HEARD WHEN CAR GOES OVER A SPEED BUMP OR POTHOLES
CLUNKING WHEN TURNING TO THE LEFT. CLUNKING WHEN STATIONARY AND TURNING THE WHEEL TO THE LEFT.
ELECTRONIC STEERING FAILURE A LOT OF NOISE AND THE STEERING COLUMN RATTLES WHEN YOU HIT THE SMALLEST BUMPS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE AS IT IS DIFFICULT TO KEEP THE STEERING STRAIGHT AND IT IS MY WIFE'S CALL DRIVING MY FAMILY TO SCHOOL ETC. IT WILL CATCH WHEN ATTEMPTING TO TURN INCREASING THE RISK OF ACCIDENTS IN A SITUATION WHERE YOU NEED TO BE ABLE TO MAKE QUICK MOVES.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL CLICKING NOISE DETECTED IN THE STEERING WHEEL. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE CONTACT CALLED BLAISE ALEXANDER HYUNDAI (1703 W COLLEGE AVE, STATE COLLEGE, PA 16801, (814) 234-2886) AND INFORMED THEM OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 119,000.
STEERING COLUMN RATTLES AND SHAKES WHEN I GO OVER BUMPS/POT HOLES. MY MECHANIC DESCRIBED THE INCIDENTS AS SIMILAR TO ONES WHICH HE HAS SEEN ON OTHER SONATAS AND TOLD ME THAT THERE IS AN OPEN RECALL. DOES NOT APPEAR TO BE A RECALL FOR THIS MODEL YEAR.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 20 MPH, THE CONTACT TURNED THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT OR RIGHT AND HEARD AN ABNORMAL NOISE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO STATED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN UNIVERSAL NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING OR REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 26,000.
MY 2012 HYUNDAI SONATA HAS BEEN ALIGNED TWICE BY FIRESTONE AND STILL HAS A PULL IN THE WHEEL WHICH CAUSES THE VEHICLE TO PULL AND SLOWLY DRIFT OFF THE ROAD THE CAR HAS NO STEADY ALIGN AFTER BEING ALIGNED AND I HAVE A YEAR WARRANTY ON THE ALIGNMENT IT'S SO IRRITATING DRIVING A NICE CAR WITH LITTLE THINGS LIKE THIS WHICH RUINS THE LUXURY OF ENJOYING MY ROAD CAR .
CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL AT 68,000 MILES. TOOK IT TO DEALER AND WAS TOLD THAT 2011'S WERE RECALLED FOR THIS ITEM BUT NOT 2012'S, SO IT IS A WARRANTY ISSUE, BUT IT WAS BEYOND THE 60,000 MILES FOR WARRANTY. DEALER SAID IT'S "NOT A SAFETY ISSUE" SO I COULD KEEP DRIVING IT UNTIL I HAD THE MONEY TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR.
WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL LEFT THERE IS A CLICKING NOISE IF I GO OVER ANY BUMPS THE STEERING RATTLES AND SHAKES.
STEERING WHERE MAKES LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN TURNED LEFT AND RIGHT. ALSO, WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, SOUNDS LIKE THE ENTIRE UNDERNEATH IS ABOUT TO FALL OUT. MY MECHANIC SAYS IT IS THE COUPLER AND HE BELIEVES THERE IS A RECALL ON IT. HOWEVER, WHEN I LOOK IT UP, SAYS THAT THE 2011 AND 2013 WERE RECALLED, BUT NOT THE 2012. THE WARRANTY WAS EXTENDED ON THIS YEAR'S MODEL. ALSO, THE DEALERSHIP IS SAYING THAT IT IS SAFE TO DRIVE. I DO NOT FEEL SAFE WHEN DRIVING IT; I WOULD LIKE TO GET IT REPAIRED, BUT DO NOT FEEL THAT I SHOULD BE PAYING FOR SOMETHING THAT HYUNDAI KNOWS IS A DEFECT.
STEERING COUPLER HAS DISINTEGRATED ALLOWING DANGEROUS FREE PLAY IN STEERING ACCORDING TO AUTO TECH. OCCURS WHILE STATIONARY IF WHEEL IS MOVED SIDE TO SIDE, AS WELL AS IN MOTION. THIS HAS BEEN OCCURRING FOR APPROX 6MO BUT HAS GOTTEN WORSE SO IT WAS JUST TAKEN TO A PRIVATE GARAGE FOR DIAGNOSIS. I REVIEWED FOR RECALLS BUT DID NOT FIND ANY FOR THIS ISSUE WITH THIS VIN. I BELIEVE MANUFACTURE SHOULD COVER REPAIRS DUE TO NATURE OF PROBLEM.
WHEN TURNING LEFT OR RIGHT A LOUD CLICK CAN BE HEARD COMING FROM STEERING COLUMN. WHEN DRIVING AND DRIVE OVER A SMALL BUMP IN THE ROAD THE STEERING COLUMN ALSO MAKES THE SAME NOISE.
AFTER APPX 65K MILES, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED CLICKING WHILE STATIONARY OR MOVING. AFTER RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, I FOUND SEVERAL PEOPLE DESCRIBED THE ISSUE AS THE STEERING KNUCKLE. I TOOK MY CAR TO THE REPAIR SHOP TO RESOLVE THE ISSUE. MY ISSUE WAS NOT ONLY THE KNUCKLE, BUT THE STEERING GEARBOX. THERE WERE TEETH BROKEN ON THE GEARS. THIS IS A VERY COSTLY REPAIR. $2000-$4000. THESE ISSUES SHOULD NOT HAPPEN UNLESS THERE WERE WEAK OR DEFECTIVE PARTS INSTALLED DURING THE BUILD PROCESS. THIS IS AN EXTREMELY DANGEROUS ISSUE.
STEERING COLUMN MOTOR MDPS RUBBER FLEX COUPLER REPAIR. HYUNDAI NEEDS TO HAVE A RECALL ON THIS - STEERING IS OFF AND MISGUIDED! DANGEROUS TO MANUVEUR CAR ON THE ROAD, TRAFFIC AND ON THE FREEWAY. CAN'T JUDGE/GUESS THE STEERING PLAY IF UNFORESEEN HAPPENS AND DRIVER HAS TO ACT QUICK TO GET CAR TO SAFETY. THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE SONATA'S AND NEEDS TO BE RECALLED BECAUSE THE STEERING COLUMN HAS TO BE TAKEN APART TO FIT IT.

MY HYUNDAI SONATA SE 2012 STEERING WHEEL RECENTLY STARTED SHAKING ONCE I HIT 65 MPH. IT'S DOING IT ON AND OFF, BUT AT TIMES IT SOUND SCARY LIKE IT'S GOING TO FLY OFF.

WHILE DRIVING OVER BUMPS IN THE ROAD, A KNOCKING NOISE OCCURRED. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO ROSEN HYUNDAI OF ALGONQUIN (LOCATED AT 771 S RANDALL RD, ALGONQUIN, IL 60102, (847) 854-6700) WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE STEERING COLUMN FAILED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND DID NOT ASSIST. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 86,000.
WHEN TURNING WHEEL SHARPLY WHILE IN MOTION, CAR MAKES CLICKING NOISE THAT SEEMS TO COME FROM THE FRONT WHEEL. THIS PROBLEM ORIGINALLY STARTED AROUND 60,000 MILES WHEN I FIRST BOUGHT THE CAR FROM A PRIVATE PARTY. I DID NOT REALIZE IT WAS A PROBLEM AT THE TIME BECAUSE FOR ME, IT HAD ALWAYS MADE THE NOISE. AT FIRST THE NOISE ONLY HAPPENED WHILE IN REVERSE. NOT IT HAPPENS ANY TIME THE WHEELS ARE TURNED FAIRLY SHARPLY AND THE CAR IS MOVING IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. MILEAGE IS NOW ABOUT 85,000.
STEERING MAKES A CLICKING NOISE WHEN GOING OVER BUMPS, POTHOLES, ETC. DEPENDING ON THE CONDITION OF THE ROAD, THE STEERING WHEEL WILL SHAKE. OCCURS AT ALMOST ANY SPEED (BUT OCCURS LESS DUE TO THE STABILITY AT LOW SPEEDS)
MY STEERING WHEEL STICKS IN ONE POSITION WHILE DRIVING. I HAVE ASKED THE DEALER I TAKE MY CAR TO ABOUT IT AND AT FIRST THEY SAID THERE WAS NO ISSUE. I MENTIONED IT AGAIN AND THE LEAD SERVICE TECH EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE AWARE OF THE ISSUE AND IT IS VERY EXPENSIVE. THATS ALL FINE EXCEPT IF YOU ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE THEN I AM BY NO MEANS THE FIRST PERSON TO COMPLAIN ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT ONE DAY IT WILL FINALLY LOCK UP COMPLETELY. I NOTICE THE ISSUE ON THE HIGHWAY THE MOST AS THERE ARE NOT AS MANY TURNS BUT YOU CAN ALSO NOTICE IT A LOT WHEN ON STRAIGHT BACK ROADS/COUNTY ROADS. IT HAS BEEN SINCE I HAVE OWNED THE VEHICLE THAT I HAVE NOTICED THIS ISSUE, SO AROUND 15,000 OR SO MILES NOW.
LOUD CLICKING NOISE WHEN DRIVING SPEED OF 50 MPH OR MORE ON THE INTERSTATE, SUDDENLY LOSS OF POWER STEERING CONTROL AND HARD TO TURN THE WHEEL. TOOK THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC. HE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND CONFIRMED THAT THE STEERING COLUM COUPLING WAS COMPLETELY DESTROYED AND THE POWER STEERING ASSIST MOTOR NEED REPLACING. RESEARCHED FOUND THAT THIS WAS INVESTIGATED FEBRUARY 2017 TSB #5NP-G5Z6W-03 , HOWEVER I DID NOT RECEIVE A RECALL NOTICE.
