While I was driving at approximately 55mph, a loud clank happened and the car stalled, and smoke started pouring out of the hood and through the vents into the cabin, and I was leaving burning pieces behind on the road. I pulled over, ran to the back to get my dogs out of their crash tested kennels in the backseat, and both rear doors & passenger front door were locked. I ran up front to unlock them, and the unlock button did not work. I tried the unlock on the keys and it did not work. Due to having a recommended crash safe kennel set up it was not possible to crawl into the back to open it from the inside. My dogs were trapped in a car that was filled with smoke and on fire for over 2 minutes while I debated breaking the windows. I managed to fish a wire into the back to unlock and pull the door open from the inside of the back doors. The car stopped burning but was still smoking for several minutes after & I was able to clear the smoke to make it safe for my dogs to wait for a tow. When the mechanic looked at it he said the engine blew up due to the rod shattering into the block, destroying the entire engine and spilling oil which lit on fire. Mechanic recommended I contact Hyundai for engine replacement as this was a known issue with other 2015 Hyundai sonatas which were recalled due to risk of a defect rod knock causing the rod to shatter causing high speed stalling. Hyundai says my engine was not included in that specific recall. I included photo of the shattered rod which fell out when the mechanic lifted the vehicle
I was driving and when turning into a parking lot, I accelerated and the vehicle stalled. It did not go suddenly when accelerating. A couple days later, I use a code reader and have a code listed as P1326. So I take it for a diagnostic at a local shop and I am told it is the Knock Sensor Detection System (KSDS). I was advised to take it to a Hyundai dealer because often these vehicles have manufacture warranty since there’s recalls. There have been some vehicles under this recall Hyundai put out as Service Campaign 966 or 982. They have had vehicles deal with this sensor issue before. Hence why there is a campaign issued. I review to see if there are any recalls on my vehicle and tare none but there are other models listed for this particular issue for Hyundai vehicles. My vehicle was driving fine and it’s fairly new. Low miles then suddenly this happened without warning. I believe it is a recall issue for this model as well.
Engine sputters, no power. Warning light comes on that there’s a malfunction pull over and do not drive. We had the dealer look at it and he couldn’t find anything wrong.
My headlight and break lights constantly go out and need repairs and malfunction each time a change the light bulbs. My engine does not hold oil and it leaks constantly after 20 days of driving I have to get oil change every 30 days. I have repaired this leak on several times by the professionals and it still leaks and locks up my engine due to low oil.
The contact's friend owned a 2015 Hyundai Sonata. The contact stated that while her friend was driving at 20 MPH, a motorist informed her that there was a fire visible underneath the hood. As her friend opened the driver-side door, the vehicle became engulfed in flames. The contact's friend was taken to the hospital where she sustained severe burns to the left side of her body. The contact's friend had her skin grafted from the right side of her body to repair the severe burns sustained to her left thigh and ankle as well as other parts of her body. A police and fire report was filed. The vehicle was completely incinerated due to the failure. The remains of the vehicle were towed to an independent tow yard where it was deemed a total loss. According to the fire report, the fire was caused by an unknown electrical failure malfunction; the source of the failure was undetermined. The dealer nor the manufacturer had yet to be notified of the failure. The vehicle was destroyed. The failure mileage was 71,820
After taking my car in multiple times to be serviced for a "Hybrid System Warning" mid last year, they were unable to read any error codes or diagnose any issue. I took it to two separate dealerships with no luck fixing the issue. I then completely broke down due to the same "Hybrid System Warning" on the highway on 7/26/22 heading to Pigeon Forge, TN with two children in the car. I had to have my car towed to the closest Hyundai dealership in Knoxville. They were unable to diagnose and fix my car within the timeframe I was in town. Since Hyundai would not provide me with a loaner, I had to get a rental car to get home that I was not reimbursed for. We ended up paying out of pocket to replace the safety plug/fuse and the power relay assembly on 8/9/22. After having the car back for three months, the warning popped up again on 10/18/22 just as it did earlier that same year. I immediately called to schedule a service appointment with Hyundai and had to wait almost four months to get a service appointment here in Cincinnati. The appointment was on 1/26/23 and they have yet to "replicate the issue" so they are unable to diagnose the car. I am supposed to pick up the car this week even though it's a safety hazard. I have had two cases open with Hyundai Customer Affairs but since they cannot diagnose the car, there is nothing they can do. They have been absolutely no help at all.
Several times this has happened. I am driving and all of a sudden my car stops and I get a message that says Hybrid System Warning, Safely Stop and Do Not Drive. The car will coast to the side of the road at times and other times it won't. I have taken it to the Holler Hyundai dealer in Winter Park FL and they told me nothing was wrong with it. They had my car for less than an hour. I told them there was no way they could have fixed the issue but they said they did. Obviously they didn't fix it because it has happened several times since then. Now my car will not even move. It starts up, radio works, AC works, just will not move. It is at the Sanford Hyundai service shop waiting for them to tell me what it is
Out of the blue, I heard a very loud knocking noise coming from my engine. I was driving my children to school and as I hit the gas pedal the less power my car had. Not only would it not accelerate much but even the lights would dim. I am now paying over $400 a month for a car that I can not drive and walking where I need to go. My vin number does not qualify me for the engine recall Hyundai has, even though my car is the right year, make and model, engine size and problem that the recall is for. Awesome right?
I was driving at 55 mph and vehicle stall and cut off pulled side the road tried to crank back up and nothing happened. after each oil change no oil show on stick and also when i get an oil change they tell me barely any oil in vehicle. this has happened every since i purchased the veh on Dec 10 2019
JUST BOUGHT CAR TODAY, 30 MINS INTO DRIVE HOME, CAR BEGAN TO SPUTTER, HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING LIGHT CAME ON AND SHUT THE CAR DOWN COMPLETELY. LOSS OF POWER, IN THE MIDDLE OF THE HWY. NOT SAFE!! DEALERSHIP CAME AND TOWED CAR, BUT I AN VERY UPSET WITH PURCHASE.
MY 19 YEAR OLD DAUGHTER WAS DRIVING HOME FROM THE STORE AND THE CAR SHUT DOWN IN THE MIDDLE OF DRIVING ALL POWER WENT OUT STEERING BECAME HARD AND BRAKES BECAME HARD. AND SOMETHING SMELLED AS IF IT WAS BURNING. WE ARE THE SECOND OWNERS OF THE CAR AND BARELY DRIVE IT. IT WAS PURCHASED 2 YEARS AGO AND REGULAR MAINTENANCE IS KEPT ON THE CAR. UNFORTUNATELY WE DON'T HAVE A WARRANTY ON THE CAR ANY LONGER AND STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT AND AS WELL AS COST MY DAUGHTER HER LIFE IF SHE DIDN'T KNOW HOW TO CONTROL THE CAR WHEN EVERYTHING SHUT DOWN IN TRAFFIC. *TR
WHILE DRIVING MY CAR LIGHTS CAME ON AND CAR STARTED TO SLOW DOWN. I PULL OVER THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED AND WOULD NOT COME BACK ON. I GOT A TOW AND WAS TOLD THERE IS A RECALL ON MY ENGINE AND TO TAKE IT TO HYUNDAI.
DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN "HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING. DO NOT DRIVE" THE VEHICLE LOST ALL POWER AND HAD TO ROLL DOWN THE HILL. THIS HAPPENED 2 YEARS AGO AND THE DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY FIXED IT. *TR
IN 2019 I HAD MY COMPUTER REPLACED WITH LESS THAN 60K MILES! I HAD EVERY LIGHT COME UP ON THE DASH BOARD. I'VE BEEN COMPLAINING TO THE DEALER SHIP ABOUT MY CAR RUNNING OUT OF OIL, THE ENGINE MAKES WEIRD NOISES AS IT CURRENTLY HAS LESS THAN 80K MILES ON IT. I HAD MY OIL CHANGED ON APRIL 15TH. 2020 6 DAYS LATER MY CARS ENGINE WAS MAKING NOISES CHECKED MY OIL AND I WAS DOWN ALMOST 2 QUARTS IN LESS THAN A WEEK. I BOUGHT THIS CAR BRAND NEW AND HAVE HAD NOTHING BUT ISSUES WITH IT. *TR
THE WEEK OF 2/3/20 I REPORTED MY VEHICLE'S LOSE OF POWER AT INTERSTATE SPEEDS AND THE ILLUMINATION & CHIMING OF THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY RAN ENGINE DIAGNOSTICS AND BEGAN AN OIL CONSUMPTION TEST. ON 3/2/20 THE VEHICLE AGAIN LOST POWER ON THE INTERSTATE. AGAIN I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER WHERE THEY DID THE T3G CAMPAIGN. YESTERDAY 3/17/20 THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND REMAINED ON FOR 5 STARTS OF THE ENGINE. THE DEALER COULD NOT REPLICATE THE SYMPTOM ON 3/18/20. THE VEHICLE FAILED THE OIL CONSUMPTION TEST BY 363 MILES AND THE DEALER IS SUBMITTING A CLAIM FOR A NEW ENGINE. THIS MODEL YEAR CAR HAS SERIOUS DEFECTS AND MAY NOT BE SAFE TO DRIVE.
8-10 TIMES IN THE PAST YEAR WHILE DRIVING CAR IN FREEWAY HYBRID SYSTEM WARNING COMES UP PROMPTING TO SAFELY PULL OVER AND TURN OFF CAR. CAR THEN STARTS SLOWING DOWN. HAVE TAKEN THE VEHICLE TO HYUNDAI SERVICE 4-5 TIMES AND THEY KEEP FINDING BROKEN PARTS THAT DONT FIX THE PROBLEM.
THE CAR HAS FAILED TO START ON MULTIPLE OCCASIONS. I ENTER THE CAR, PRESS THE BREAK AND THE PUSH TO START BUTTON, AND THE CAR FAILS TO IGNITE. IT HAPPENS NORMALLY WHEN IT IS COLDER, BUT WILL STILL DO IT WHEN IT IS WARMER OUT.
CAR ,HYBRID, DIED AT A LIGHT. WARNING LIGHT AND BUZZER ALARM !CHARGING SYSTEM ERROR DO NOT DRIVE. WAS ABLE TO RESTART CAR. STOPPED AT A STORE ,LET IT SIT. RESTARTED AGAIN ENGINE LIGHT STAYED IN GOT HOME WHERE I WAS TEMPORARILY STAYING , WAITED A FEW HOURS RESTARTED NO WARNING LIGHTS.WAS A FRIDAY, MESSAGED SERVICE MGR , HE WAS OFF CALLED MONDAY CAR BROUGHT IN TUESDAY. ERROR CODE OFF ON BOARD DIAGNOSTICS WAS P1B70 . THEY LOADED SOFTWARE UPDATE 19 HC 002H SERVICE BULLETIN. CAR 2015 THIS PROBLEM WAS A ISSUE WITH EARLIER YEARS..STILL AROUND UNFORTUNATELY. SHOULD HAVE BEEN A SAFETY RECALL ..CARS ARE DYING WHILE DRIVING. DEALER EXPRESSED OPINION THAT THIS SHOULD RESOLVE ISSUE IF NOT CALL IMMEDIATELY.
AT 45,800 MILES MY SONATA COULD NOT REACH 60 MPH AND THE RPM COULD NOT REACH 2000. I ALSO NOTICED THE GAS MILEAGE DROPS THE SONATA HAD 35,000 MILES ON IT. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND WAS TOLD IT NEEDS NEW ENGINE.
VEHICLE STALLED OUT / WOULDN'T RESTART / HAD TO TOW TO DEALER / HAS GAS / WAS TOLD MOTOR LOCKED UP AND NOT SURE WHY?
I HAVE A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA WITH 24K MILES. THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON AND WAS FLASHING AS I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT FOR MY DAUGHTER TO PICKUP HER CAR. THE GARAGE OWNER SAID TO PULL IN MY CAR. THE DIAGNOSTIC READ OUT WAS P2600 OBS-LL. UPON RESEARCHING IT THE CODE SAID, COOLANT PUMP "A" CONTROL CIRCUIT?OPEN. THEY PROVIDED ME WITH THE PRINT OUT. THEY SAID TRY TO DRIVE IT. I DID & DROVE MAYBE 300 FEET & IT WOULD NOT ACCELRALTE ABOVE 15 MPH. I TURNED AROUND TOOK IT BACK TO THE GARAGE'S LOT. THE NEXT DAY I CALLED HYUNDAI ROADSIDE ASSIST TO HAVE IT TOWED TO SUPERIOR HYUNDAI SOUTH, WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR.THIS OCCURRED THURSDAY JANUARY 17TH. THE CAR IS STILL AT SUPERIOR HYUNDAI WAITING WORD FROM HYUNDAI MOTORS. DAVE THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT EITHER NEEDS A WIRE HARNESS OR AN ENGINE. NOT SURE THE RELATIONSHIP. SEEMS TO ME THEY SHOULD PUT ON THE WIRE HARNESS, IF THAT DOESN'T FIX IT REPLACE THE ENGINE.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHEN THE CONTACT INSERTED THE KEY INTO THE IGNITION, THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED THREE TIMES TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE LOCAL DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE ISSUE. THE VIN WAS UNKNOWN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 57,641.
WHILE STATIONARY I NOTICED THE CAR'S ENGINE SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS TICKING. I DROVE OFF ABOUT 35 MILES PER HOUR WHEN MY 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA LIMITED STALLED WHILE DRIVING. THE CAR STARTED SHAKING WHILE ATTEMPTING TO SPEED UP TO KEEP THE VEHICLE RUNNING. I HAD MY PASSENGER WHO WITNESSED THE INCIDENT AND WE RECORDED USING THE CELL PHONE TO RECORD THE INCIDENT. THE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON THEN OFF AGAIN. EVENTUALLY IT CUT OFF COMPLETELY. I HAD TO RESTART AND THE SPEED OF THE VEHICLE WOULD NOT GO PAST 50 MPH. THE ENGINE SHOOK THE ENTIRE CAR AND SOUNDED LIKE THE GEARS DID NOT WANT TO SHIFT. THE DEALER WAS NOT ABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE OR FIND ANY CODES ON THEIR SYSTEM. THIS SAME THING HAPPEN TO MY 2011 SONATA IN WHICH HYUNDAI REFUSE TO PAY IN A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BECAUSE I TRADED OUT OF THE VEHICLE A YEAR AFTER THEY REPLACED THE ENGINE. THE ENGINE ALSO STALLED WHILE TRAVELING AT HIGHWAY SPEED AND STARTED SMELLING LIKE AN ELECTRICAL FIRE WHILE SMOKE CAME FROM UNDER THE ENGINE. I HAD TO HAVE IT TOWED BACK TO THE DEALERSHIP. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE EXITING THE VEHICLE AT 40 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS ABLE TO BE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, BUT COULD NOT BE RESTARTED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE SEIZED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 4,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 HYUNDAI SONATA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO DECELERATE AS IF THE BRAKES WERE BEING APPLIED. THE CONTACT WAS DEPRESSING THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WITH NO RESPONSE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE TECH LINE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED PREVIOUSLY. THE VEHICLE WAS BEING REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 11,000.
