Dec 2025 Fire

During the early morning of December 23, 2024, at 2am, the vehicle caught fire in the carport of my house. Upon waking up to the noise, I proceeded to evacuate my family from the house due to the amount of smoke inside. The fire damaged approximately one-third of the house. Prior to this incident, the vehicle showed no defects, and all its services were performed by the same Hyundai dealership workshop where I bought the vehicle.

On [XXX] at approximately [XXX] we were traveling west on [XXX] in Canida when we heard an explosion and could hear air rushing into the vehicle. As soon as we could safely pull to the right and into the breakdown lane my wife got out and noticed a large hole in the panoramic sunroof. The glass was shattered but the glass stayed within the cloth cover. We were in shock but decided to continue on to our medical appointment in Manchester. We had not been near an overpass and we felt no debris flying from the road or another vehicle. we called our insurance company, Amica Mutual and reported the incident. Car goes into limp mode and will not accelerate over 25 mph. This has happened 5 times while driving in traffic. It is very unsafe and could be the cause of an accident. Fortunately we found a place to pull off the road, wait a while, and restart the car.

Unbearable Sound While Driving the Car, Causing Ear Numbness and Safety Concerns I purchased a certified pre-owned vehicle from the dealership with the expectation that it would be free from defects. On the very first day, during the drive back home, the vehicle began making a persistent rattling noise that was both distracting and concerning. The sound was so severe that it caused ear numbness within just a few minutes and made it difficult to concentrate on driving, raising serious safety concerns. Upon arriving home, I immediately contacted the dealership to report the issue but received no positive or constructive response. I reported this matter to Hyundai Motor America Customer Service on April 1, 2025. It has now been almost five months, and they have been unable to resolve the issue and mentioning its cosmetics defect. Therefore, I am reaching out to you to address this safety concern and request that precautionary action be taken against Hyundai Motor America, USA. The noise and vibration are so extreme that ear numbness occurs within 2–3 minutes of driving, making the vehicle unsafe to operate and safety concersn. Thanking you. Driving on the freeway on 5/18/2025 my sunroof completely shattered. I was going about 70 mph and the sunroof was closed. It was not a hot day, approx. 73 degrees. The noise was so loud, as if a gun shot went off next to me. Nothing hit it, nothing around us, nothing was hit on my part. As a matter of fact I was driving in the toll lanes so really no other cars were around me. It came out of nowhere. I called the local Hyundai dealer and drove straight there. This was on a Sunday afternoon. Monday morning the service dept called and said it would be a few days before they have any answers. On Tuesday 5/20/25 the service guy called back with answers saying they have no idea why it happened, they will not cover it, something must have hit it and it will be $4000-$8500 and take 3-4 weeks to fix. He suggests I call my insurance company to file a claim! My car is a 2022 Hyundai Tuscan limited with 43,000 miles, I purchased it brand new and have used my sunroof maybe a hand full of times. As you can see in the photo the glass blew out, NOT in, so nothing hit it to cause this to happen.

January 2023-driving down the road and the car was shaking and wouldn’t give much gas when pressing the accelerator. When we got it towed to the dealer, they said it was the fuel injector. July 2024-driving on a major highway, car starting doing the same thing and stopped on the highway I pulled to the shoulder. I was not safe at all. The tow truck took over 2 hours to come. It was a hot summer day. When it finally got towed it was confirmed it was a second fuel injector. November 2025-driving and the car did the same thing, currently at the dealership and it’s the 3rd fuel injector. I’ve never felt so unsafe in a car. It only has 30k miles on it. I don’t drive on the highway because I get anxiety about it stopping again. There’s another fuel injector that “needs” to fail to complete all 4.

The vehicle comes with a panoramic sunroof and there is a ~8inch wide piece of glass that is between the windshield and the sunroof. While driving on the highway, at approximately 80mph, with no other cars or hazards in front of the vehicle, this piece of glass shattered. We heard a loud popping sound, immediately followed by shattering/cracking noises. It was not struck by any rocks or debris. After arriving at my location, the vehicle was immediately inspected at a Hyundai dealership where the determined the damage to be a manufacturing defect. This damage decreases the structural integrity of the vehicle and subjects it to water and electrical damage. There are multitudes of similar reports on forums across the internet. The damage currently remains present on the vehicle and photos have been taken. The damage has been assessed by two Hyundai dealerships but an insurance claim has not been filed as I am currently seeking the damage be covered under the basic 5yr/60,000 mile warranty.

The fuel door actuator stopped working. This caused a safety issue because it left me stranded in the desert. I had no way of opening the fuel door to put gas in the vehicle. This model does not have a lever for emergency. The only way to gain access is to take pull the panel inside apart inside the trunk. I had to call my husband to help me. I was 110 miles away from him. This caused a very dangerous unsafe situation.

On two occasions, immediately after startup, the vehicle has experienced vastly diminished power. Once in November 2023 and once on [XXX]. Both instances were identical. Vehicle could barely move from a stop, even at full throttle. Speed above 25 mph could not be achieved. RPMs exceeded 4500. Vehicle did not stall. No dash lights, warnings or chimes were triggered. Upon shutdown and restart, problem disappeared. Source of failure is unknown. Upon notification, dealer (Gossett, Memphis TN) offered a diagnostic service for $100 with a two month wait for available appointment. Vehicle has had no other issues. Vehicle is accident-free. Vehicle is unmodified and has received no service beyond scheduled oil changes. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

All my audio stopped working in vehicle. Did a search on this and found out there is a TSB on this problem. The amp stopped working and it affects all safety features. It took me 3 weeks to get an appointment. I feel this is a safety hazard and they need a recall. It only affects certain vins it says and mine is one of them. I’ve read many complaints all they do to “fix” is unplug amp and plug back in. It works for awhile and then it happens again. So the way it’s being fixed is just a bandaid.

On 10-11-24 the panoramic sunroof on our car exploded. We were driving at the time at approx 45mph, clear and 60° out, and we heard a loud bang and in looking around for the cause saw the sunroof looked like crackle glass. We closed the sunshade in case it fell on us, and within a minute it did just that. Had we not closed that shade we would have been showered with glass. We did not see any obstacles coming at us and there were no cars around close enough to throw up a rock. After calling our insurance company to start a claim I did some research online while waiting for the adjuster to call. I discovered the class action suit regarding the exploding sunroofs and realized that is what had just happened to us. I then spoke to Hyundai customer service and started an incident report. We were finally able to take the car to a dealer on 10-31-24 and requested the repair be covered under the limited warranty. They eventually agreed to repair it under warranty and we picked the car up on 11-29-24. We were without the use of it for 7 weeks. We knew we would never trust that it wouldn't happen again and that we would need to trade it in. We did just that 3 days later at a different dealership. Of course we lost money on the car. There were no prior warnings with any lights, noises, or anything. No other vehicles or people were involved and no police report or anything was made. Had we been going faster or on a multiple lane road, or had the glass fallen as soon as it exploded, I believe the shock and reaction would have ended in an accident and severe injury to us or others. Pictures are available but they were taken after we cleaned up the mess.

The audio suddenly stopped working (no warnings). This happened 3 times within the last few weeks. Dealer have fixed it each time (i.e. audio is back). Without audio important safety audio warning is not working. Dealer told us Hyundai won't fix it because it will cost over $3000 to replace the amplifier.

The vehicle lost acceleration just as I was getting on the freeway ramp. It would move but slowly. I put emergency lights on, drive on the side and crept off the next exit and pulled into parking lot. Shut the vehicle off and checked tires, gas pedal, under hood. All seemed ok. I started the car and it started moving and then went back to hardly moving. I was near the dealership when this happened so took it to dealership/ service. It has had a few episodes we’re it seemed something was wrong with the car prior to this. A dragging or not shifting into gear as it should were I have pulled over to see if my tire had gone flat or something. Then it goes away. Also clock kept running slow loosing a minute every few days. Hyundai service could not get the car to repeat the incident. They ran a scan and codes were ok.

Nov 2022 Crash

Safety Issue 2022 Hyundai Tucson: All cars I have previously owned had a safety feature that alerted me through a continuous dinging or beeping sound immediately if a door was left open and the car was put into gear. I unknowingly became reliant on this feature because I have young children that sit in the back seat. If I did not see that a door was open, the car would alert me through sound before I could drive off with a door open. The Hyundai Tucson only has this safety feature for the driver’s door, but not for the passenger door, rear doors or lift gate. While the small screen in front of the steering wheel shows a visual that a door is open, an alert beeping sound does not happen. The incident: My two children got into the back seat and I was already in the car. I thought I heard both doors shut but I did not turn around to check. I put the car into reverse and immediately looked at the backup monitor and did not look at the screen behind the steering wheel. There were no indications on the back up monitor or any audio alerts to indicate anything was wrong. I slowly backed up at 1 to 2 mph just taking my foot off the brake to exit my garage. Then the car was jolted to a stop and I put on the brake. When I looked behind me, I saw the driver’s side rear door was jammed into the side of the garage because my son had not closed the car door all the way. The door frame was slightly bent and about 6 inches of metal bent inward almost an inch by the latch so it could not shut. Luckily my son had his seatbelt on when this happened and was not injured. I think an auditory alert is a necessary safety feature on ALL doors (not just the driver door) to prevent this or something worse from happening. I assumed this was a standard safety feature on all cars to prevent people from falling out of cars and losing car doors while driving. I did take the car to the dealership to see if it was a setting issue, but they determined this is how the car was designed.

Bought this car 11/22/21. The car just stopped in the middle of the road and won't run. This happened twice on 7/31/22 and 8/17/22. Dealer said on the first incident something fired or something but engine is okay. I am awaiting for the diagnosis of this second incident. For a new car, this shouldn't happen. I could have been rear ended today 8/17/22 if the car behind me came in a little faster and if I drove in the freeway. This is a safety issue. I want this car to be recalled before something very bad happens. You can recall a car but you cannot recall a lost of life.

The sunroof exploded outward, after being driven earlier in the day then parked in our garage. We went to pull it out of the garage again and didn’t even leave our driveway and the sunroof exploded. Researching the issue seems to have uncovered an existing problem with Hyundais that the manufacturer has not taken responsibility for yet. Seems like the government should get involved.

On May 27, 2022 I started my car in the parking garage at work. The engine stuttered slightly but recovered. After I left the garage and accelerated I found that the car would not rev past 3000 rpm. At 3000 rpm the car began to lose power. It would recover when you backed off of the accelerator. This issue continue for the 27 mile trip from work to home. I restarted the car once I reached home and it was okay. I have tried to recreate the issue and it has not happened again. I took the car in for service and Hyundai dealership could not find any issue or recreate the problem. I am attaching the service invoice. I did find other 2022 Hyundai Tucson owners reporting the same issue in online forums so thought it best to provide info to both the NHTSA and Hyundai USA.

I was driving on the highway and as I was slowing down for the slower traffic ahead the car started jerking and then the gas pedal wouldn’t cause the car to accelerate. I had to cross several lanes of traffic not being able to accelerate to get to the breakdown lane but could not get all the way off the highway. I believe that the issue was with the engine or brakes. There was a smell of burning in the car so I turned off the engine as soon as I got over as far as possible. I was afraid to try to turn on the engine because is smelled like something was burning. I had to sit partially in the highway with cars speeding by rushing to get out of my lane to avoid crashing into me while I called emergency service. The car was towed to the nearest dealership and I am awaiting the results of the inspection results from the dealership. There were no warnings or lights that I noticed prior to this incident.
