This is a follow up to # 11560029, submitted 12/13/2023. On 12/14/2023, dealership updated the display software that I also previously updated on my own. Dealership unable to update navigation software because my car doesn't have navigation installed. Back up camera issue still persists with camera remaining on in neutral and drive as software update did nothing to correct the issue.
The backup camera stays on even in neutral and drive mode. In reverse the guide lines are present, however they are not present when in drive or neutral but the camera remains on. This is a safety hazard because it is very distracting to drive forward with live video on the 8" screen. I believe this is also illegal in my state when my teen is driving the car as state law does not permit drivers age 16-18 to use any hands-free devices when driving. I'm sure this includes live video being displayed even if it is the backup camera. Dealership reproduced the problem. I also have video of backup camera on while driving forward. Dealership service writer told me it "might" be that the navigation system needs updating. I told him I already updated the navigation. He told me to try again and acknowledged that the "process isn't easy". He says this is not covered by Hyundai. Apparently customers are responsible to update navigation/display software, even though my car was purchased brand new at the dealership in May 2021, is less than 3 year old (still under warranty) and has less than 25,000 miles on. The estimate to update the navigation, even though they aren't certain this is the problem is over $585. In Nov. 2021 (3,140 miles) the car was not turning over & starting. The dealership couldn't reproduce the problem, but discovered the horn wasn't working. They stated on the paperwork that I said it was not working, but I didn't not know that was the case. The dealership "energized horn and dislodged coil in horn assembly" and now horn works and coincidentally the problem with the engine not starting went away. The steering also makes a noise on occasion when turning which I suspect is also an electrical issue. All these electrical-like problems pose a safety risk and I am starting to believe they are all connected. I also feel it poses an additional risk to leave software updates to the customers when it involves safety features like the backup camera and display.
