THE JEEP HAS 42K MILES. RECENTLY THE CAR SUDDENLY, WITHOUT ANY WARNING JUST QUIT WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC. THIS WAS THE SECOND TIME IN 3 WEEKS THIS HAPPENED. 5K MILES AGO I GOT AN SYNTHETIC OIL CHANGE GOOD FOR 10K MILES. AT APPROX. 5K MILES WAS WHEN THE ENGINE STARTED TO DIE. I CONTACTED DEALER IN ELIZABETHTOWN KY AND EXPLAINED WHAT HAD HAPPENED. HE APPARENTLY WAS AWARE THAT FOR EVERY 1K MILES, A QUART OF OIL WAS USED. THIS WAS NEVER TOLD TO ME AND YET KNOWING THIS, THE DEALER TOLD ME I HAD TO HAVE THE 10K MILE OIL KNOWING I WOULD NEVER REACH THAT. HE SAID THERE WAS SOME TYPE OF RECALL ON A SENSOR THAT UNTIL THEY COULD SCHEDULE ME IN, I NEEDED TO POUR OIL INTO THE ENGINE WHICH I DID. MY LIFE WAS PLACED IN DIRE JEOPARDY. AND I WAS NEVER MADE AWARE OF THIS OBSCENE USAGE OF OIL BY THIS MODEL. IF THE ENGINE BLOCK HAD CRACKED DUE TO THIS-THAN WHAT?

BURNS THOUGH OIL LIKE A CHEAP ALCOHOLIC. USUALLY 1 QUART IS BURNED OFF EVERY 1000 MILES. THIS WAS SOMETHING I WAS NOT AWARE OF WHEN I PURCHASED THE JEEP. WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED, INITIALLY I WAS TOLD IT WAS AN ELECTRICAL ISSUE WITH THE SHIFTER. SO THAT WAS A $500 REPAIR. LATER I FOUND OUT THAT 2017 JEEP CHEROKEES HAVE A UNIQUE ABILITY TO DRINK OIL. IF FCA IS AWARE, AND NOT FIXING THE ISSUE, THATS BULL CRAP. I HAVE AN OLDER CAR WITH A SIMILAR ENGINE AND CAN PUT 10,000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES W/O AN ISSUE.

I HAVE HAD MY CAR FOR TWO MONTHS AND DROVE LESS THAN 2000 MILES AND MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE APPARENTLY BURNED OFF MOST OF THE OIL WITHIN THAT TIME AND NO LOW OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE OIL WAS LOW. I WOULD START DRIVING MY CAR AND IT WOULD JUST SHUT OFF. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THERE IS NO REASON WHY A OIL LIGHT SHOULDN'T WARN YOU, THE ONLY WARNING YOU GET IS YOUR CAR SHUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE ROAD. THIS IS NOT SAFE! TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER THE DRIVER MADE A RIGHT TURN INTO A SHOPPING CENTER, THE DRIVER WAS UNABLE TO TURN THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE VEHICLE ABRUPTLY STALLED. THE DRIVER WAS ASSISTED TO MOVE THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE ROADWAY. THE DRIVER DROVE THE VEHICLE TO HOME HOWEVER, THE VEHICLE STALLED FOR THE SECOND TIME. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO BERGERON AUTOMOTIVE DEALER (3525 VETERANS MEMORIAL BOULEVARD, METAIRIE, LA 70002, (504-888-2132). THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST THAT LOCATED THE FAILURE AT THE ENGINE. THE DEALER ADDED ENGINE OIL TO THE ENGINE, AND ADVISED THE CONTACT TO BRING THE VEHICLE BACK FOR INSPECTION EVERY THOUSAND MILES TO HAVE THE ENGINE OIL CHECKED AND A NEW OIL FILTER INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 34,612.

WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, IT WOULD GO INTO LIMP MODE AND SHUT ITSELF DOWN WHILE DRIVING. THIS HAS HAPPENED DURING 3 DIFFERENT PERIODS TIME NEAR THE OIL CHANGE INTERVAL, OCCURRING 3+ OR MORE TIMES DURING EACH PERIOD. AFTER COMPLAINING ABOUT IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, WITH THE 3RD OCCURRENCE, THEY CHECKED THE OIL PRIOR TO CHANGING IT NOTING THERE WAS NO OIL IN THE PAN. AFTER PERFORMING A FUEL CONSUMPTION TEST, IT WAS NOTED THAT THE ENGINE BETWEEN 6,000 AND 7,000 MILES (OIL CHANGE TIME) LOST OVER 1.25 QUARTS OF OIL. BETWEEN 0 AND 6,000 MILES, MINIMAL TO NO OIL WAS LOST, BUT BETWEEN 6,000-7,000 THE OIL WOULD DROP SIGNIFICANTLY WITH NO OBVIOUS REASON WHY. THE DEALERSHIP MENTIONED THEY HAVE HAD OTHER CUSTOMERS WITH A SIMILAR ISSUE. IF IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY, THEN JEEP WOULD LIKELY REPLACE THE ENGINE, BUT SINCE NO LONGER UNDER WARRANTY (EXPIRED AT 60,000 MILES), I WOULD NEED TO REPLACE ENGINE OR TEAR DOWN TO DIAGNOSE THE ISSUE.

THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. FOUND OUT COULD BE GAS CAP OR BAD FUEL. FILLED UP WHEN CLOSE TO EMPTY. ENGINE LIGHT DISAPPEARED. WAS FINE FOR MONTH OR SO. NOW CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ON CONSTANTLY. CHECKED W AUTO PARTS STORE. COMPUTER READER SAID COULD BE THERMOSTAT. ONLY THREE YEARS OLD. NOW HAS 40K MILES. START W ENGINE PROBLEMS ALREADY?

I'VE NEEDED TO ADD A QUART OF OIL EVERY 1000 MILES SINCE THE VEHICLE WAS NEW. I RETURNED THE CAR TO THE DEALER AT APPROXIMATELY 3200 MILES AND WAS PUT ON AN "OIL CONSUMPTION MONITORING PROGRAM" WHERE I RETURNED THE CAR EVERY 1000 MILES FOR MEASURING THE OIL CONSUMPTION. THIS WAS DONE EVERY 1000 MILES AND THE CAR NOW HAS 15,700 MILES. WHEN I RETURNED TO THE DEALER TIME BEFORE LAST, I WAS TOLD TO DRIVE IT ANOTHER 1000 MILES, RETURN AND IF OIL MUST BE ADDED, CHRYSLER WILL "REPLACE THE ENGINE." WHEN I SCHEDULED MY LAST CONSUMPTION CHECK, I WAS TOLD CHRYSLER NOW UPPED THE CHECKING INTERVAL TO 1500 MILES. I THEREFOR DROVE THE CAR ANOTHER 500 MILES AND RETURNED TO THE DEALER ON 9/21/2020 WHERE THE THE CAR WAS CHECKED IN. AFTER THE CAR WAS CHECKED, THE SERVICE CHECK IN GUY TOLD ME THEY ADDED ANOTHER QUART, AND THAT I NEEDED TO PUT YET ANOTHER "1500 TO 1700" MILES ON THE VEHICLE, THEN RETURN FOR ANOTHER FINAL CHECK, AND IF OIL WAS NEEDED, THEY WOULD (ONCE AGAIN) REPLACE THE ENGINE. I UNDERSTAND FROM THE SERVICE PERSONAL, THAT IF THE ENGINE OIL QUANTITY DROPS TO TWO QUARTS BELOW FULL, THE ENGINE WILL SHUT OFF, AND THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED NUMEROUS TIMES.

THE VEHICLE WAS ALSO TAKEN TO KEY CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (3700 16TH STREET DIRECTION, MOLINE, IL 61265 (309) 524-52747). BOTH DEALERS PERFORMED DIAGNOSTIC TESTS BUT, WERE UNABLE TO LOCATE A FAILURE CODE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000. INVALID VIN.

THE ISSUE STARTED WHILE I WAS TRAVELING DOING 60 MILES PER HOUR ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN SUDDENLY I HAD ZERO ACCELERATION. IT WAS AS THOUGH I WAS IN NEUTRAL . I STOPPED ON THE HIGHWAY PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK THEN BACK INTO DRIVE. STILL NO RESPONSE . I ALLOWED THE VEHICLE TO ROLL BACK IN NEUTRAL THEN PUT IT IN DRIVE . IT ENGAGED INTO DRIVE BUT ONLY FOR A SHORT TIME . I HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED TO JEEP WHERE THE PROBLEM WAS "FIXED" . ONLY IT'S NOT FIXED . THE TRANSMISSION WILL NOT DISENGAGE WHEN SLOWING DOWN .

I WAS DRIVING OUR 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE WITH MY FAMILY IN THE VEHICLE, INCLUDING WIFE AND 2 CHILDREN (5 PLUS INFANT). WE WERE TRAVELING ~20 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE CAR SHUT DOWN. THE CAR WAS STILL MOVING AS WE WERE TRAVELING DOWNHILL, AND WAS IN THE DRIVE GEAR. WE WERE UNABLE TO STOP AS THERE WAS NO WAY TO PULL OFF IMMEDIATELY. THE GAS PEDAL STOPPED WORKING FIRST, THEN THE BRAKE STOPPED WORKING AS WELL. I HAD TO ENGAGE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE AND JAM MY FOOT ON THE BRAKE TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN. THE VEHICLE CONSUMES ALL OF THE OIL (BONE DRY) BEFORE THE VEHICLE REACHES 3000 MILES AND BEFORE THE NEXT SCHEDULED SERVICE. THIS HAS HAPPENED TWO TIMES. THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO SIGNS OF A LEAK. THE VEHICLE STALLS OUT AND TURNS OFF WHILE DRIVING ON THE ROAD WITH NO WARNING (NO CHECK ENGINE LIGHT OR ANY OTHER WARNING). THIS TIME IT HAPPENED ON 05/26/2020 ON A HIGHWAY WITH A 60MPH SPEED LIMIT. THIS IS A HUGE SAFETY CONCERN. THIS PROBLEM IS FOUND ALL THROUGH OUT INTERNET FORUMS FOR THE 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE AND JEEP HAS FAILED TO PUT OUT A RECALL. THE ISSUE IS KNOWN AND THEY ARE INTENTIONALLY PUTTING THOUSANDS AND THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE AT RISK OF SEVERE INJURY OR DEATH. THE DEALERSHIPS ARE CALLING IT AN, "OVER CONSUMPTION OF OIL." *TR

INTERMITTENTLY, UPON STARTING THE JEEP WILL DISPLAY AND "SERVICE SHIFTER" WARNING ON MY DASH WITH ALL GEARS INDICATORS (PRNDL) ILLUMINATED IN RED. I AM ABLE TO MOVE THE SHIFTER AND CAN EVEN OPERATE THE VEHICLE BUT, IT FEELS UNSAFE. I HAVE HAD MIXED SUCCESS WITH TURNING THE JEEP OFF AND RESTARTING BUT, MOST OF THE TIME, IT SUCCEEDS IN ELIMINATING THE WARNING AND THE RED LIGHTS. I HAVE SEEN THIS ISSUE POSTED ON VARIOUS WEBSITES AS AN ISSUE FOR A NUMBER OF JEEP MODELS. GUIDANCE OR, A RECALL MAY BE IN ORDER. I WOULD APPRECIATE EITHER.

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO LEBANON CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM (518 W MAIN ST, LEBANON, OH 45038) WHERE THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE FOR 2000 MILES AND TO THEN HAVE THE VEHICLE TESTED FOR OIL CONSUMPTION. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT DEPENDING ON THE RESULT, THE MANUFACTURER MAY CHOOSE TO REPLACE THE ENGINE FREE OF CHARGE. THE OIL WAS TOPPED OF HOWEVER, NO ADDITIONAL MECHANICAL REPAIRS WERE PERFORMED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,732.

MY 2017 JEEP CHEROKEE HAS SHUT OFF WHILE DRIVING 6 TIMES IN A WEEK AND A HALF. ITS ALWAYS WITHIN A FEW BLOCKS OF START UP. THERE ARE NO WARNING LIGHTS, THE CAR JUST SHUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND TAKES SEVERAL ATTEMPTS TO START IT BACK UP. ALL 6 TIMES IT HAS BEEN WHILE DRIVING LESS THAN 25 MILES AND HOUR AND HAS OCCURRED WITHOUT WARNING. TOO SCARED TO DRIVE IT ON THE HIGHWAY. WE HAD IT TO THE DEALERSHIP BEFORE WITH AN ISSUE WITH THE "SERVICE SHIFTER" LIGHT COMING ON AND ALL THE LIGHTS ON THE SHIFTER WERE LIGHTING UP AND CAUSING THE CAR TO SHUT DOWN. AT THAT TIME, THEY SAID IT WAS THE SHIFTER BEZEL AND THEY REPLACED IT. NOW WE ARE NOT GETTING A WARNING LIGHT AT ALL BEFORE THE CAR DIES. THIS IS AN EXTREME SAFETY ISSUE AND I AM ACTUALLY SCARED TO DRIVE MY JEEP THAT I HAVE HAD FOR LESS THAN 3 YEARS. WHEN TALKING TO THE DEALERSHIP, THEY ARE SAYING THEY HAVE HAD NO REPORTED ISSUES WITH THIS BEFORE. WE WILL FIND OUT TODAY WHAT THEY SAY AND I WILL REPOST. I AM VERY UPSET THAT THERE ARE SO MANY COMPLAINTS ON HERE FOR THE SAME THING AND NO ONE HAS DONE ANYTHING ABOUT IT. ALSO, WHEN WE SCHEDULED THE APPOINTMENT WITH CRONIN CHRYSLER DODGE JEEP RAM IN LEBANON OHIO, WE WERE TOLD THEY NO LONGER GIVE LOANER VEHICLES. WHEN DID THIS CHANGE? ESPECIALLY FOR AN ISSUE WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS AN OBVIOUS MANUFACTURER ISSUE.

WHILE MAKING A LEFT HANG TURN ACROSS 3 LANES OF TRAFFIC MY JEEP STOPPED ACCELERATING. THE BATTERY LIGHT ON THE DASH LIGHT UP AND THE DASH PROMPTED ME TO PUT THE VEHICLE IN PARK. AFTER BEING NARROWLY MISSED BY MULTIPLE CARS I WAS ABLE TO RESTART THE JEEP AND DRIVE OFF OF THE ROAD.

I BOUGHT THIS VEHICLE BRAND NEW. SINCE ABOUT 30K I HAVE BEEN COMPLAINING THAT IT IS RANDOMLY SHUTTING OFF WITHOUT WARNING, REGARDLESS OF SPEED. NO ENGINE POWER, AND NO POWER STEERING. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THIS IS A FAIL SAFE DUE TO LOW OIL. I HAVE FOLLOWED THE FCA GUIDELINES AND DEALERS FOR OIL CHANGES AND CANT REALLY MAKE BETWEEN CHANGES. I HAVE DONE MULTIPLE OIL CONSUMPTION TESTS BETWEEN TWO DEALERS BC I AM TOLD IT DOESNT BURN ENOUGH FOR FCA STANDARDS TO REPLACE THE ENGINE. I HAVE CALLED AFTER IT DIED OUT TO ASK FOR A TOW IN AND HAVE BEEN DENIED AND TOLD IT JUST MEANS ITS TIME FOR AN OIL CHANGE. I HAVE TO HAVE AN IGNITION COIL REPLACED ON TWO SEPARATE INCIDENTS, REPROGRAMMING OF THE SHIFTER PCM, AND REPLACED THE PCM. IT WASNT TILL MY LATEST INCIDENT THAT I RECORDED IT AND POSTED THE VIDEO TO TWITTER THAT AN FCA REP REACHED OUT TO ME TO 'HELP'. I WAS TOLD I STILL NEED TO DO OIL TESTING BC I HAVE TO FAIL 3 IN A ROW FOR FURTHER TESTING REGARDLESS OF A HISTORY OF THE PROBLEM CONTINUING AND NOT GETTING BETTER. 1ST TEST IT WAS ONLY HALF A QUART. DIDNT EVEN MAKE IT TO THE 2ND BEFORE THE CAR SHOOK VIOLENTLY, LOST POWER, WOULDN'T ACCELERATE AND I HAD TO BE TOWED IN. 1ST WAS TOLD THE MULTIAIR ACTUATOR WENT OUT AND FCA AGREED TO PAY FOR IT, AS IM AT 73K. THEN I HEAR NOTHING FROM ANYONE FOR 8 DAYS TILL I CALL THE DEALER AND IM TOLD THEY ARE WAITING ON SPARK PLUGS. 20MINS LATER THE FCA REP CALLS AND SAYS THE ENGINE NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THEY FOUND, METAL SHAVINGS INSIDE, SCORCHING, A PIECE OF THE EXHAUST VALVE MISSING AND LOST INSIDE THE ENGINE. HOWEVER FCA WILL ONLY PAY FOR 1500 LEAVING THE REST OF THE BILL TO ME FOR SOMETHING THATS NOT MY FAULT AND AN ISSUE THEY CONTINUE TO IGNORE. HAD THEY INVESTIGATED THE PROBLEM EARLIER REGARDLESS OF THEIR OIL BURNING RULES THEY WOULD HAVE FOUND THE VALVE WAS CRACKED. FCA SAYS THEY ARE NOT SAYING ITS MY FAULT BUT ARE HIDING BEHIND THE WARRANTY.*DT*JB

VEHICLE CAN STOP ABRUPTLY DUE TO LOW OIL AS THIS ENGINE IMPROPERLY BLOWS OIL OUT THE EXHAUST AT A VERY HIGH RATE. OUR VEHICLE BLOWS OUT 1 QUART OF OIL EVERY 1,000 MILES. THE DEALER HAS BEEN MONITERING THIS PROBLEM SINCE OCTOBER 2019 WHEN I FOUND THE OIL LEVEL WAS DOWN 2 QUARTS. THE DEALER WILL NOT CORRECT THE PROBLEM OR ELEVATE THE PROBLEM TO THE MANUFACTURER. WE ARE LEFT WITH A LEMON. WE PURCHASED THIS VEHICLE NEW FROM THE DEALER IT HAD 11 MILES AT PURCHASE.THIS VEHICLE REQUIRES A VALVE REPAIR OR A NEW ENGINE.

MY ENGINE CONSUMES OIL. I CANNOT EVEN REACH 2000 MILES BETWEEN OIL CHANGES. MY CAR WILL JUST CUT OFF WHILE I AM DRIVING (AT ANY SPEED INCLUDING HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND TURNS). WHEN THIS FIRST HAPPENED I CHECKED THE OIL AND THE ENGINE WAS COMPLETELY EMPTY OF OIL. IT DIDNT EVEN REGISTER ON THE DIPSTICK. I HAVE HAD OVER 6 OIL CHANGES SINCE I BOUGHT MY CAR IN 01/2019 (LESS THAN A YEAR). I HAVE HAD OIL CONSUMPTION TESTING COMPLETED AND EVERYTHING "COMES BACK IN RANGE". THE ENGINE HAS BEEN INSPECTED AND NOTHING IS LEAKING OR FAULTY. MY CAR TAKES FULL SYNTHETIC OIL WHICH SHOULD LAST WAY LONGER THAN THAT. I AM AWARE THIS IS AN OVERALL ISSUE WITH 2017 JEEPS OF ALL MODELS. THE SERVICE MANAGER AT THE DEALERSHIP DIDNT SEEM LIKE HE KNOW MUCH OF ANYTHING AND TRIED TO TELL ME THAT THIS WAS NORMAL. I HAVE NEVER HAD A VEHICLE THAT COMPLETELY DEPLETES ITS OIL SUPPLY WITHIN 2000 MILES. HE THEN REFERRED ME TO MOPARS CORPORATE LINE WHO THEN REFERRED ME TO NHTSA TO FILE A REPORT.
