The vehicle is subject to an open safety recall, Jeep recall 01C / NHTSA 25V-011, involving loss of motive power due to a power transfer unit defect. There is currently no available remedy or repair procedure. This vehicle has experienced loss of power while driving at freeway speeds on three separate occasions, creating an immediate safety risk. Because the recall has no fix, the vehicle is unsafe to operate and is not being driven. Stellantis Customer Care case [XXX] is open, but escalation beyond the call center has been denied. The owner is an [XXX] driver. The lack of a remedy has rendered the vehicle unusable and created ongoing safety and transportation issues. Our 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk made the warning code "service 4 wheel drive" and shortly after when parked at a gas station shifted itself into 4 LOW. I figured it out after starting to drive and we limped home which was a few miles away. We called the dealership and were told to bring it in for diagnostic. While parked on the inclined driveway the Jeep shifted itself into N and luckily I was able to press the brake (Non-ABS or hydraulic assistance due to the engine being off) stop it from rolling through the sidewalk into the street. I was able to get the Jeep into 2H to drive the 5 miles to dealership where they said they would do a diagnostic. 2 days later they texted us to say the transfer case was at fault and that would cost us $3825 up front and then we could submit a claim to Mopar to be reimbursed. I don't believe the original PTU (Transfer case) is available for inspection but you could ask the dealership. It's obvious our safety along with neighbors, pedestrians, and people driving down the street were put at risk, and had we known how serious the issue was, I would have asked for it to be towed to the dealership instead of driving it. The problem was confirmed by the dealer to be under recall. I don't know if anyone besides the dealership has inspected our failed PTU. We had very little warning to the problem. I believe the first time we saw the warning light was the same day the vehicle began having mechanical failures.

Power Transfer Unit (PTU) failure. It is available for inspection upon request. Visible PTU fluid leaking under the vehicle. Loss of 4WD. Service 4WD warning on dashboard began on Monday, January 5, 2026. Vibrations and grinding noises while driving. Burning oil smell in the cabin. Change in driving, such as delayed engagement and jerking during acceleration. Loss of power. My safety and the safety of others was put at risk at least twice when I experienced Loss of Power while driving. The vehicle unexpectedly shut off and all power was loss while in drive on two separate occasions in late 2025. PTU fluid leak is also a risk to my safety due to its potential for vehicle overheating, fire hazard, loss of 4WD, and/or catastrophic failure. The vehicle was taken to the service department of Ourisman Dodge Jeep Ram of Alexandria, VA on Thursday, January 8, 2026. The vehicle was inspected and PTU failure was confirmed by the dealership service department representative, Dennis Orellana.

The vehicle is subject to an active safety recall involving the two-speed power transfer unit (PTU), which can cause loss of motive power and/or loss of PARK function. The vehicle displayed a “Service 4WD” message and all-wheel drive functionality is disabled. The issue has been confirmed by a Jeep dealership, which stated that the recall repair cannot be performed because the manufacturer has not released the remedy under the recall. The dealership also stated the replacement PTU part is available for retail purchase but is not authorized for recall installation. The vehicle is being operated in winter conditions without all-wheel drive, increasing the risk of loss of control. The manufacturer has provided conflicting information, with the recall assistance center stating the recall was resolved, while the dealership and VIN recall system continue to show the recall as incomplete. Warning messages related to the drivetrain appeared prior to this complaint. The vehicle has not been repaired, and the recall remains open with no timeline for remedy.

Rear differential lock rings broke and caused leaking fluid, as reported to me by a dealer service department. This could lead to handling problems and even total system failure. No warning lights, messages, or noticeable symptoms. Upon an internet search, I found that this seems to be a COMMON issue with Jeep Cherokee's - therefore, I'm not sure why it isn't already a recall.

The rear differential went out on it on Nov 27th, I had it towed back to the dealer and they kept it until Jan 5th and said they had fixed it. I have a hand written receipt from them but it's not very detailed. It does seem better but I can still hear a small noise that concerns me because it sounds and feels just like it did before. I just started financing this vehicle so im not sure what to do and I cant get any help with it. Its scary to drive sometimes but it's my only transportation and I have 3 small children. The check engine light is on but it didn't come up until after they worked on it the first time.

my vehicle suddenly loss power and started decelerating while i was driving on the freeway on october 11th of 2025 . upon taking my vehicle to a mechanic i was told the TPU was the issue . i remembered this was an issue that had been recalled . i called the manufacturer and dealership . both told me that there was nothing they could do , i could not have my car fixed til there was a resolution and they could not provide me with a loaner vehicle . they told me my only option was to fix the car myself and have the money refunded to me after i show proof . the mechanic quotes me $2,000 to fix my vehicle . i do not have that amount to fix something that should’ve have BEEN fixed because the recall has been out for a whole year now . so for 3 months i have been without my vehicle up and running . i have gotten my payments pushed back on my jeep but now they have started again and i refuse to pay for something that i can’t drive ! especially after i could’ve died on the freeway

It has been over a year since I got my notice of recall. Still no fix for this according to the dealer. It is completely unacceptable that I have a vehicle that is not really usable without risk while they sit around and dont get a fix. It can not be that complicated. Replace the ptu if they have to. I know it sucks but if its a safety thing then it needs to be done.

Vehicle: 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite VIN: [XXX] Recall: Stellantis / Jeep Recall 01C (NHTSA 25V‑011) Dealer: Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep, Carson City, Nevada Description: My 2019 Jeep Cherokee Trailhawk Elite (VIN [XXX] ) is included in Stellantis Recall 01C. It has now been more than a year since the recall was issued, and Stellantis still has not provided a remedy for my vehicle. My servicing dealer, Carson Dodge Chrysler Jeep in Carson City, Nevada, reports that no parts are available for the recall and that Stellantis has not provided any timeline for when parts or the required software remedy will be released. This recall involves a safety‑related defect in the Power Transfer Unit (PTU) that can cause loss of drive power or loss of Park function. Despite the severity of the defect, Stellantis continues to delay both the software remedy and the availability of replacement PTU components. I am unable to obtain the required repair, and the manufacturer has not met the federal requirement to provide a timely remedy. I am requesting that NHTSA investigate Stellantis for an unreasonable delay in providing recall repairs for Recall 01C and require the manufacturer to supply the remedy without further delay. I was driving the vehicle under normal road conditions, started to hear a whine from under the vehicle, then felt an explosion from under the vehicle. A lot of lights came in on the dash, and I could barely pull the vehicle over to the side of the road and turn it off. I had the vehicle towed to my garage, and they said the PTU had exploded, and my transfer case has a hole in it now. There is an active recall on certain models, but mine is not included

I was driving on the highway and experienced what felt like a brief power outage where my vehicle instantly dropped speed. I estimate it was approximately 10-15 mph. Everything appeared to return to normal at the time until approximately 5 minutes later when I exited the highway and it began making a loud noise. I drove a couple miles before getting concerned and thinking I don't want to risk breaking down on the side of the highway going home or doing further damage to an expensive component such as engine or transmission. I used roadside assistance to tow my vehicle to my nearest dealership. The tow driver confirmed he heard the noise inside the vehicle while I stood outside and could not hear it. The dealership called me to approve the diagnostic fee and also asked questions about what happened. In hindsight, they had asked a very specific question regarding the noise sound and location which, in my opinion, shows they instantly suspected the issue that they would later report. After approving the fee, they sent a quote focused primarily around the rear differential housing being cracked for an estimate of $5221.85. I asked how this would happen and the service representative explained that the choke inside the differential broke and a piece of metal inside it cracked the housing. I began researching differentials in vehicles and specifically in Jeep Cherokees, I learned very quickly that this is a very common problem which explains how a representative was able to tell me the cause without seeing it. No warnings were ever issued on the dashboard and no symptoms were present prior to the sudden deceleration. There are no warnings on the dash after the event and the only symptom other than the noise while in motion is the acceleration/deceleration feels slightly less sensitive. Every potential cause stated by mechanics who have looked at this points to a manufacturing issue or quality issue. A complete failure could cause an accident harming people.

The contact owns a 2019 Jeep Cherokee. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the message "Service 4WD" was displayed on the instrument panel. The vehicle was taken to Firestone, where it was diagnosed, and DTC: C14A7-97 was retrieved. The contact was informed that the code indicated that the transfer case range position sensor was obstructed or blocked. The contact was informed that the failure was due to the Power Transfer Unit (PTU). The second diagnostic code was U0010-00, which involved the Instrumental Panel Cluster (IPC) and the Controller Area Network (CAN) interior box. The third code was U0140, which involved the "Lost Communication with Body Control Module (BCM)”. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to a transmission specialty shop, where the DTC codes were confirmed. The vehicle was not repaired. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, where the diagnostic codes were confirmed. The vehicle remained at the dealer unrepaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 121,000.

The power transfer unit in my Jeep Cherokee 2019 Latitude failed and required a replacement, at significant cost (over $2000). It is my belief that Jeep’s recall campaign (ID - O1C) was too narrow and ought to have included my vehicle. I have called Jeep three times without a proper answer to my concern. The failure of the power transfer unit was publicly described as a safety issue and I was unable to drive the vehicle for nearly two months.
