when traveling highway speeds at ~55 MPH if the car hits a pot hole or bump in the road the steering pulls left and right aggressively and will not cease until the car is stopped. this is very dangerous at high speeds, as the car is vibrating so badly control of the car is very difficult. The car has been inspected by the dealership and we were informed they could only make adjustments based on manufacture recommendations, which included alignment and tire balancing, and the car was returned to us in the same condition. The steering damper was replaced by another service center at our own costs and the problem persists. The dealership suggested "selling the car" as they are unable to resolve the problem. The problem continues to persist which is a great concern, that it can not be resolved or corrected.

This vehicle at around 65 miles an hour and hit a bump in the road It will start a death wobble, shaking the steering wheel and vehicle uncontrollably out of your hand once you slow down you can get it back under control and continue on I have had this vehicle at two dealers and all they wanna do is change the steering damper. This has not corrected the problem and basically now I have a vehicle I can no longer drive safely.

My car steering started shaking and rattling when I would accelerate above 30 mph. I felt like I was losing control of my car. Upon taking it to a jeep dealership for inspection, they said that my steering dampener needs to be replaced. There’s also a nationwide shortage of this part and so the waiting list could take over two months plus time to get the replaced part. It’s like several jeeps are experiencing this and it’s unsafe conditions to drive under there needs to be a recall.

At 60 miles an hour if you hit a bump jeeps starts the death wobble til you slow to 45 miles an hour. Jeep has claimed recall was completed 1/14/20 at 4840 miles, we purchased used and has 22041 miles now and same issue. Their alleged fix is not fixed. I spoke with Chrysler about this and they stated I must pay for diagnostic and then they would maybe do something.

I get the "death wobble" if I hit even a small bump on a smooth highway at speeds above 50 mph. The dealer says this is normal and nothing to worry about, which is crazy. The vehicle has just over 40,000 miles and has been maintained in full compliance with the manufacturer's warranty. The dealer said they could try replacing the steering damper but that it wasn't likely that it would fix the issue, again saying it's a normal condition with this vehicle. The wobble is extremely dangerous in the rain or any kind of slick road, pretty in heavy traffic. These vehicles need to be recalled so this can be fixed.

When the vehicle hits a bump at highway speeds, the steering begins to shake violently until the vehicle speed is lowered to below 50 mph +/- 5 mph. I have hear this being referred to as the Jeep death wobble. It will cost a small fortune to have the tie-rods and bushings replaced by the dealer and I've heard that may not fix the problem. This is very scary when driving at 70 mph on the highway and causes safety issues when you have to quickly reduce speed to get the issue to stop. Please get Jeep to fix this very common problem with their vehicles.

THEN 6 MONTHS LATER, COMING DOWN ON ICY ROAD ON HWY 2 AT NIGHT AT 35MPH IN DEC 2022. THEN AGAIN IN SANTA BARBARA IN JAN 2023 ON THE MAIN FRWY AT 60 MPH. THEN AGAIN TODAY IN FEB 2023 ON LINCOLN BLVD ON THE WAY TO LAX AT 30MPH.

2018 jeep wrangler unlimited sport intermittently looses power steering while in motion at high speed causing the inability ( lack of driver control) to react to road conditions. Multiple alert lights flash including ABS power steering off, gear shifter off. This has happened multiple times during highway driving as well as on city roads. It is available for inspection upon request. Chrysler, Dodge, jeep, ram, fiat of Santa Barbara denies ability to detect or repair the problem. According to the jeep forum, this appears to be an ongoing issue on the 2011-2018 models. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)

when going over rough road or bumps, potholes etc there is a loud noise under the front of the Jeep. Steering is effect at times by shaking. Upon inspection by mechanic was told the tie rods were the culprit and would need to be replaced. Was also told that these parts are not lasting long on the newer Jeeps. 2018 Jeep Wrangler JK Sport with 36000 miles. Was told by mechanic that it will take 1.5 - 2 months to get parts due to there already being over 2300 orders for the parts.

Steering Dampening system keeps failing causing the known effect called the "Death Wobble" as the Jeep Wrangler will violently shake at certain speeds or after hitting a bump int he road. The dealer has fixed the problem Twice and now the vehicle is back in the dealer with being fixed for the third time. The dealer is telling us that it is out of the warranty period and will cost $3,200 to repair. This is unacceptable for jeep to have failed the first 2 times to repair the issue. This is a big safety issue as when we are driving down a highway the jeep will start to violently shake and we have to slow down to under 40 mph to gain control which is a major hazard to other driver safety as well as our own safety. The steering damper was replaced at 5,000 miles and then again at 18,000 miles. The car currently has 30,300 miles on it.

I took my jeep in to have the oil changed, and the tires rotated. When I left the dealership and got on the highway going around 70 mph, the jeep begin to shake. I had to pull over to the side of the road. I’m being told it is the steering damper. According to some research I’ve done online, there was a period of time. The dampers were being replaced for free if you had an issue. I am having an issue now. What do I do? V41?

I had experienced the "death wobble" when I first bought my 2018 Jeep Wrangler JL in 2018. A recall repair was done replacing the dampener. Here we are in 2022 and I am beginning to experience the death wobble again. The dealership says the dampener is bad and Chrysler will not replace it. I don't think the "dampener" is the issue. It will be at my expense to fix.

Vehicle goes into death wobble on highway, you must slow down below 30 miles an hour to get to stop. Very dangerous on busy interstate. Vehicle had less than 40,000 miles, took it back to Jeep dealer where they inspected it and said they now have upgraded parts, I felt if they new they had a problem and had re-engineered parts for a fix the fix should have been on them. Cost for parts and labor exceeded $1200.00

The contact stated no warning light was illuminated. The contact continued driving to his destination. The contact took the vehicle to the local dealer, where it was diagnosed with needing the steering gearbox to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact called a second local dealer: Gupton Motors, Inc (3450 Tom Austin Hwy, Springfield, TN 37172:(615) 380-7226), and made an appointment to service the vehicle. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer had been informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,409.

In cold weather the Jeep is very hard to steer at highway speeds. While driving at highway speeds below 40 F and coming around a curve the steering feels like its locked up (will not turn). It has to be forced to get over the locked up spot (hump). This happens a few times until the engine and system warms up, then works fine. This seems to be a well known issue on the Jeep JL Wrangler forums.

Oct 2022

The steering wheel begins to shake violently, without warning, making controlling the vehicle hard to control. My vehicle was recalled for this and repaired once. However, the problem has began again. This time is has more violent shaking than the previous encounters, making controlling the vehicle almost impossible. No warning lamps or messages. It seems to worsen in cold weather.

Incident: Oct 2022
Sep 2022

Car spontaneously begins to violently shake, primarily after traveling over a bridge-road seam or other minor bump in road surface. The shake violently rattles car left to right, violently rattles steering wheel. Occurs at 55-60 MPH and above, when travel in excess of 60 MPH car becomes consistently undriveable at posted speed. Possible to recover if can slow down below 30 MPH, typically must stop car. Safety is high risk due to high speed and very high amplitude vibration, must navigate to safety to stop car (ex: on expressway). Unsure of vehicle control in icy conditions or curves. Have had fellow expressway drivers pull over to tell me they witnessed front tires jumping up and down. Car was just inspected, new tires installed, wheels balanced. Clean bill of health, and issue began. Took to manufacturer dealer, they did not convey any knowledge of issue. However knew what I meant by "death rattle". Technician is replacing steering damper. This is a known issue to NTSA and Fiat Chrysler. While no recall, FCA has posted a consumer satisfaction notice to cover the steering damper replacement, although repair shop claims this is a courtesy extended warranty coverage. The death rattle is no-joke violent and places occupants of vehicle at risk during recovery of death rattle and renders vehicle unfit for safe travel at speeds above 50 MPH. Thought you should know.

Driving at 60 mph, the steering wheel locked up and could not turn left or right. The road had a significant curve and it forced me to merge on the lane as I couldn't steer into the curve. No service lights came on and this is a very serious safety issue. Luckily no other vehicles were near me while this occurred.

Aug 2022

While driving at 30 mph, on occasion the vehicle would start to shake and the only resolution is to stop the vehicle, and then restart. On the freeway, I nearly lost control of the vehicle during one of these incidents. I had to stop the vehicle on the freeway and a lane change was not viable. I was nearly rear ended, so there were multiple safety issues at play. I took the vehicle to the jeeo dealer where I was informed of a 189 fee to diagnose the problem. I agreed to this fee, repeating to the service advisor mutiple times it was a safety issue and must be repaired. I was told that the steering dampener had a dent, and the steering dampener needed to be replaced every 30k miles. This is NOT listed in the maintenance schedule, nor is there any public statement from Jeep that this part can become defective as a result of early wear out. My vehicle is driven exclusively on city streets and has less than 20K miles. An internet search turns up the words “Jeeo Shake of DEATH” to describe this apparently well known problem.

Jun 2022

On multiple occasions this Jeep has a tendency to wander into the adjacent lane, especially on curves. It is slow to respond to steering corrections when this happens. Any driving of the vehicle requires constant steering corrections to keep it in a straight line At highway speeds a small bump in the road causes the Jeep to wander into the next lane or to start to fishtail. I'm now scared to drive it on the highway and feel it's an accident waiting to happen.
