The contact owns a 2010 Nissan Altima. The contact stated while driving approximately 70 MPH, the vehicle independently decelerated without warning. The contact pulled over and had the vehicle towed to a local mechanic. The vehicle was then towed to a different local mechanic where it was diagnosed with needing the transmission to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The contact stated there was no warning light illuminated. The manufacturer was not informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 180,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH, THE TRANSMISSION FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED AND THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE PROPERLY. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO MOVE THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. A DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE HAD NOT BEEN REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT INFORMED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 106,324.
MY CAR LOSES POWER ON THE FREEWAY AND IT IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS. I TYPICALLY DRIVE ON NORTH DALLAS TOLLWAY IN DFW AREA AND THE OTHER DAY I HAD TO EXIT BECAUSE ALL OF A SUDDEN THE CAR LOST POWER AFTER DRIVING ON FREEWAY FOR 60 MILES. THIS HAS BEEN AN ONGOING INTERMITTENT ISSUE SINCE DAY ONE. I FOUND ONLINE THAT NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE ISSUE BUT REFUSED TO REPAIR.

THE VERY FIRST ISSUE WAS VEHICLE SHUT DOWN ON ITS OWN WHILE IN AIRPORT TRAFFIC. IT RESTARTED RIGHT AWAY BUT CUTS OFF IMMEDIATELY YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE. AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS, THE VEHICLE STARTED AND DROVE FINE FOR A FEW DAYS AND THE ISSUE STARTED AGAIN. WHEN I TOOK IT TO GET CHECKED OUT THE PROBLEM REFUSED TO REPLICATE. THE CURRENT ISSUE NOW IS THAT THE RPM JUMPS UP AND DOWN WHILE DRIVING CAUSING THE ENGINE TO REV UP WHILE VEHICLE DE-ACCELERATES ON ITS OWN. VEHICLE SOMETIMES RUNS LIKE THE EMERGENCY BRAKE IS ENGAGED. WHEN YOU PUT IT IN DRIVE OR REVERSE IT TAKES A FEW SECONDS TO ENGAGE THE GEAR.
VEHICLE WILL NOT GO PAST 60 MPH, THEN WITHIN 24 HOURS WOULD NOT GO PAST 40 MPH, WITHIN 24 MORE HOURS, VEHICLE WILL NOT ACCELERATE OVER 20 MPH AND HAS EXTREME POWER LOSS. WAS EVALUATED BY TRANSMISSION SHOP WHO CONFIRMED THE TRANSMISSION IS FAILING.
CVT TRANSMISSION COMPLETELY GAVE OUT TODAY ON THE HIGHWAY AND ALMOST CAUSED A TERRIBLE ACCIDENT. MY CAR WAS GOING 65 ONE MINUTE AND THEN LOST COMPLETE POWER. STARTED SEARCHING ONLINE FOR MORE INFO ONLY TO FIND HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS FROM ALL MODELS AND YEARS FROM 2007 TO 2016! MY VEHICLE IS INCLUDED IN A SPECIAL WARRANTY ISSUED BY NISSAN BECAUSE THEY ARE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE BUT IT'S ONLY VALID UNDER 120K MILES. NOW I HAVE NO CAR, NO MONEY TO FIX THIS ONE OR BUY ANOTHER. THE UNRELIABILITY HAS RUINED MY LIFE AND I DON'T KNOW HOW I'M GOING TO GET BY. SADLY, THE FEAR OF WHAT I'M GOING TO DO WITH MY FUTURE IS ONLY SECOND TO THE FEAR I FELT THIS MORNING WHEN THE CAR I'VE POURED A LOT OF MONEY INTO AND TAKE TREMENDOUS CARE OF ALMOST GOT ME KILLED. NO DASH LIGHTS. NO WARNING. NO PREVIOUS KNOWLEDGE OF THIS VERY SERIOUS PROBLEM. FINE ONE DAY, COMPLETELY UNDRIVABLE THE NEXT. I WAS ON 83 NORTH IN MD AND ALMOST GOT REAR ENDED BY A SEMI DOING 70+ MPH IN THE LEFT LANE.
TAKATA RECALL WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY IN TRAFFIC THE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHUTTER AND WITH NO WHERE SAFE TO PULL OVER CONTINUED DOWN THE ROAD. THE VEHICLE TOOK SO LONG TO GET UP TO SPEED I THOUGHT SOMETHING TERRIBLE WAS GOING TO HAPPENED. WHEN I GOT TO A SAFE PLACE I PULLED OVER. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND WAITED. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND DECIDED TO TRY AGAIN AND IMMEDIATELY IT STARTED SHUTTERING AND NO POWER I INSTANTLY PULLED OVER CALL MY HUSBAND AND THEN CALLED A TOWING SERVICE. I'VE READ SINCE THIS HAPPENED ITS MORE COMMON AND DANGEROUS THAN I EVER IMAGINED..
PROBLEM: ACCELERATING ON HIGHWAY AND CAR WOULD NOT SWITCH INTO HIGHER GEAR PREVENTING CAR FROM GOING MORE THAN 20 MPH ON A 75 MPH HIGHWAY. NISSAN TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE PROBLEM WAS THE CVT TRANSMISSION AND THE REPAIRS WOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED 100% UNDER THE WARRANTEE EXTENSION IF THE CAR HAD BEEN WITHIN THE 120,000 LIMIT. OUR CAR WAS JUST 8% OVER THAT LIMIT BUT NISSAN'S CONSUMER AFFAIRS DEPARTMENT WOULD NOT HELP IN ANY WAY. THE REPRESENTATIVE SAID NISSAN ACKNOWLEDGED THE PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSIONS AND DOUBLED THE WARRANTEE BUT THAT WAS ALL THEY WERE GOING TO DO. THE SAME PROBLEMS THAT ARE CAUSING THESE CVT TRANSMISSIONS TO FAIL AT 120,000 MILES ARE CAUSING THEM TO FAIL AT 131,000 MILES IN MY CASE. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR REPAIRING THE DEFECTIVE TRANSMISSIONS. I AM NOT CERTAIN WHY A RECALL HAS NOT BEEN MANDATED. THIS IS A DOCUMENTED AND ACKNOWLEDGED PROBLEM AND IT IS A SAFETY CONCERN TO LOSE POWER WHILE DRIVING.
ONE DAY ON THE FREEWAY THE CARS RPMS WAD GOING UP AND DOWN WITHOUT ME PRESSING OR TAKING MY FOOT OFF THE PEDAL. I WAS DRIVING 75 MPH. THAT WAS I NOTICED FIRST. THE A COUPLE DAYS LATER CAR WAS SHIFTING HARD INTO REVERSE. I WENT AND GOT A TRANSMISSION FLUSH. TWO DAYS LATER THE CAR WOULDNT MOVE. I PUT MY FOOT ON THE PEDAL AND THE CAR WONT MOVE. MY SLIP LIGHT AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ARE ON NOW. CAR GAVE ME A CODE OF PO725 ENGINE SPEED SENSOR INPUT CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. I HAVE REPLACED IT AND THE CAR STILL WONT MOVE.
WHEN I DRIVE IT VERY FAR, IT SLOWS DOWN AND WON'T GO FASTER THAN ABOUT 50MPH. I HAVE TO PULL OVER AND LET IT COOL OFF BEFORE IT WILL GO FASTER.
WHEN DRIVING MY CAR ON US HIGHWAY 20, I WAS GOING AROUND 45 MPH. I HEARD A BANG, THE ENGINE REVVED UP AND THE CAR WOULD NOT RESPOND TO ACCELERATE . WAS ABLE TO PULL THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. CALLED FOR A TOW. NISSAN SERVICE RAN A DIAGNOSTIC AND SAID A BAND INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION HAD SNAPPED. THERE WAS NO WARNING, AND I DO HAVE MY CAR REGULARLY SERVICED AT NISSAN. *TR
CAR WAS IN MOTION AND IT STARTED TO JERKING AND QUIT ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WILL RUN BUT WHEN YOU TAKE OFF IT STARTS JERKING AGAIN AND MIGHT SMOOTH OUT FOR A SECOND AND THEN QUITS AGAIN.
I AM SUBMITTING A COMPLAINT REGARDING THE CVT- BACK IN AUG 2015 I WAS OUT OF TOWN AND WAS TRAVELING HOME AND NOTICED WHILE DRIVING MY VEHICLE ALL OF A SUDDEN STARTED TO DECELERATE. THE SCARY PART WAS THERE WAS AN 18 WHEELER BEHIND ME. NO WARNING LIGHTS CAME ON-I PULLED OVER AND TURNED OFF THE VEHICLE. I WAS ALONE AND SCARED AND HAD 300 MILES TO GO. WHAT SHOULD HAVE TAKEN 6 HOURS TOOK ME 11 HOURS BECAUSE I HAD STOP EVERY 30-45 MINUTES. I TOOK IT TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY WERE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. THEY STATED NISSAN HAD TO GO THROUGH THE STEPS BEFORE REPLACING THE TRANSMISSION- BUT AT WHAT COST- WHEN SOMEONE DIES- THEY INSTALLED A CVT OIL COOLER KIT -WELL GUESS WHAT ? 1 YEAR AND 3 MONTHS LATER ON MY FIRST LONG DISTANCE TRIP SINCE LAST YEAR. THE SAME EXACT THING OCCURRED EXCEPT I HAVE 600 MILES BEFORE I GET HOME. I WAS STUCK ON THE SIDE OF THE ROAD ALONE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. THANK GOD THE TRUCK BEHIND ME DID NOT HIT ME OR I INJURY SOMEONE ELSE DUE TO THIS ISSUE NISSAN CONTINUES TO IGNORE. I HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP IN THE MIDDLE OF THE NIGHT, COULD NOT GET A RENTAL BECAUSE IT WAS A SUNDAY AND THEY WERE CLOSED. SO NOW I'M IN AN UNKNOWN AREA WAITING TO SEE WHAT NISSAN DOES THIS TIME.
NISSAN IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH THE CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN EXTENDED THE CVT WARRANTY TO 120,000 HOWEVER FAILED TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER. MY VEHICLE STARTED WHINING, HEATING UP, WENT INTO FAIL SAFE MODE AND WITHOUT ANY WARNING LIGHTS IT SLOWED DOWN MY VEHICLE TO A COMPLETE STOP PUTTING MY LIFE IN DANGER WHILE DRIVING IN TRAFFIC AROUND BLIND CORNERS. IT'S A SAFETY AND SERIOUS CONCERN DUE TO FAULTY TRANSMISSION. NISSAN CORPORATION ADMITTED THERE IS A PROBLEM BY EXTENDING THE WARRANTY BUT REFUSE TO RECALL THE CVT TRANSMISSION. I CONTACTED NISSAN PUBLIC AFFAIRS AND WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT IN THEIR POLICY TO NOTIFY THE CONSUMER OF EXTENDED WARRANTY. I HAD PURCHASED THE EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 100,000 IN GOOD FAITH YET NISSAN FAILED TO CONTACT ME TO NOTIFY ME OF THIS ISSUE. I HAVE DOCUMENTS TO PROVE THAT I TOOK MY VEHICLE FOR THESE SYMPTOMS BEFORE THE 120,000 YET NISSAN WILL NOT HONOR THE PROOFS BECAUSE THEY SAID I FAILED TO TAKE IT TO A NISSAN CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP. I WAS OVER THE 100,000 MILES THEREFORE, I COULDN'T AFFORD TO TAKE IT THE DEALERSHIP. IT WASN'T UNTIL I STARTED DOING RESEARCH I REALIZED THERE WERE A LOT OF CONSUMERS DEALING WITH THE SAME ISSUES I WAS HAVING. IT 'S UNACCEPTABLE THAT NISSAN WILL GET AWAY WITH NOT RECALLING THIS FAULTY CVT TRANSMISSION. NISSAN ADVISED ME TO TAKE MY VEHICLE TO A CERTIFIED DEALERSHIP TO HAVE IT DIAGNOSED. JIM CLICK NISSAN IN TUCSON, AZ FOUND THE CODES NISSAN WAS LOOKING FOR AND CHARGED ME $731.00 TO INSTALL A TRANSMISSION OIL COOLER WHICH WOULD SOLVE THE SYMPTOMS. I CONTACTED NISSAN ONCE AGAIN AND THEY REFUSED TO COVER THE COST, THEY TOLD ME I WAS OUT OF THE 120,000 MILES AND BASICALLY OUT OF LUCK. I AM OUT $731.00 AND MY VEHICLE IS STILL HAVING THE SAME SYMPTOMS I WAS HAVING BEFORE NEEDS TO BE HELD ACCOUNTABLE AND MAKE THE CVT TRANSMISSION SAFE. NO ONE'S LIFE SHOULD HAVE TO PAY THIS PRICE! I HAVE ALREADY DRAFTED A MORE DETAILED DOCUMENT REFLECTING ALL THE DETAILS EXPERIENCED WITH MY ISSUE IN REGARDS TO PART: TRANSMISSION COOLER, PART #21606-ZX59A; NISSAN ALTIMA 2010. NISSAN IS AWARE OF THIS ISSUE. THEY HAVE EXPLAINED THAT THIS PART IS AN ACCESSORY AND THAT THE CAR CAN BE DRIVEN FOR SHORT PERIODS OF TIME, THEN LETTING THE CAR "COOL DOWN". I RECENTLY DROVE FROM UPPER MARLBORO MD EN ROUTE TO RIVERVIEW(1,000 MILES), FL. WHEN GETTING TO RICHMOND, VA(300 MILES) MY RPM'S JUMPED FROM 2,000 TO 5,000. I BEGAN TO DECELERATE, AND THE CAR WOULD NOT GO FASTER WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS APPLIED. THE CAR WAS TAKEN TO A NISSAN 4 MILES AWAY FROM WHERE I BROKE DOWN. THE CAR WAS DIAGNOSED BY NISSAN. THE PART NEEDED IS ON NATIONAL BACK ORDER. CUSTOMER CARE/NISSAN ADVISES THAT THE CAR IS DRIVE-ABLE, BUT FOR NOT LONG PERIODS OF TIME. MORE IMPORTANTLY, THIS CAR WAS DESIGNED WITHOUT THIS PART. TO THIS DATE, MY CAR IS AT NISSAN IN CHESTER, VA AWAITING THE PART ON A 4 WEEK BACK ORDER TO BE REPAIRED. I WILL NOT JEOPARDIZE MY LIFE BY DRIVING A MALFUNCTIONING CAR. THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN AND THIS VEHICLE, BUT THERE IS NO ACTION TO FIX THIS ISSUE BEFORE SOMEONE LIKE MYSELF OR SOMEONE ELSE GETS INTO A GOD FORBIDDEN DEVASTATING ACCIDENT. I NEED TO DRIVE FROM MD TO GA EVERY COUPLE OF MONTH. I NOTICED THAT IF I DRIVE MY CAR CONTINUOUSLY FOR A COUPLE OF HOURS (ABOUT 3 OR 4 HOURS), THE CAR WON'T ACCELERATE FROM A STOP FOR AT LEAST COUPLE OF SECONDS. I HAVE FLOORED THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE ENGINE WAS LIKE 2000 RPM. THE CAR BARELY MOVES. IT THEN BECOME NORMAL AFTER ABOUT 3 SECONDS. BECAUSE OF THIS, I WAS ALMOST INVOLVED IN ACCIDENTS SEVERAL TIMES WHEN I WAS TRYING TO PULL FROM A TRAFFIC LIGHT. I WENT TO A NISSAN DEALER TO CHECK WHAT IS THE PROBLEM. BUT THE DEALER (NORRIS NISSAN WEST NEAR BALTIMORE) TOLD ME THEY COULD NOT REPEAT THE PROBLEM SO THEY WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. I THOUGHT THIS IS POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS FOR DRIVERS LIKE ME AND THE DEALER'S ACTION IS IRRESPONSIBLE AND UNACCEPTABLE. NOW I AM AFRAID OF DRIVING MY CAR FOR RELATIVELY LONG TRIPS NOW. *TR
AFTER, DRIVING FOR ABOUT 2HRS, TRAFFIC CAME TO A COMPLETE STOP AND WAS STOP AND GO FOR AN HOUR. ONCE TRAFFIC FINALLY WENT BACK TO NORMAL, MY CAR WOULD NOT ACCELERATE, THE GAS PEDAL WAS PRESSED ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR, BUT WOULD NOT PICK UP SPEED. THE CAR SEEMS TO BE SENDING A SIGNAL TO "SHIFT" EVEN THOUGH I AM GOING A STEADY SPEED AND THERE IS NO NEED TO SHIFT. THIS CREATES A "JERKING" MOTION. I'VE NOTICED THIS PROBLEM OCCURRING CONSISTENTLY AT 60 MPH BUT ALSO AT 65, 70, AND 75 MPH. SOMETIMES EVEN AT 45 MPH. THE MORE "WARMED UP" THE CAR IS, THE STRONGER THE JERKING MOTION AND THE MORE FREQUENTLY THIS ISSUE OCCURS. *TR
I WAS LEAVING WORK WHEN I HAD NO ACCELERATION I FLOORED THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL STILL NOTHING. I PUT THE TRANS IN PARK WAITED 15 SECONDS AND BACK IN DRIVE AND EVERYTHING NORMAL. I BOUGHT THE 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA USED IN APRIL 2012. VEHICLE WAS PREVIOUSLY PART OF A FLEET UNIT IN WASHINGTON DC. DURING MY DRIVE TO WORK, I MADE A LEFT HAND TURN AT A LOW RATE OF SPEED AND THE VEHICLE ACTED AS IF THE TRANSMISSION WAS SKIPPING. THE CAR JERKED AS IF I HAD PUSHED THE GAS TOO HARD FOR THE TURN. I HAD TO STOP TO MAKE ANOTHER LEFT HAND TURN. AFTER WAITING ON CARS TO PASS, I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR TO MOVE OUT AT A SLOW AND NORMAL RATE OF SPEED AND THE CAR LUNGED AND JERKED AS IF I HAD TRIED TO PULL OUT AT A HIGH RATE OF SPEED. NO ONCOMING TRAFFIC THANKFULLY. THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD ISSUES MOVING PAST 20 MPH SINCE I PURCHASED IT. THE CAR JERKS AS IT IS HAS A MANUAL TRANSMISSION BUT THE CARE IS AN AUTOMATIC. THERE IS LOUD CLICKING NOISE THAT COMES FROM UNDER THE HOOD THAT CAN BE HEARD INSIDE THE VEHICLE. I RECENTLY HAD A RENTAL CAR OF THE SAME MAKE AND MODEL BUT DIFFERENT YEAR (2012). I DID NOT EXPERIENCE THESE PROBLEMS FROM THAT CAR. THERE WAS A RECALL ON A LEAKING BREAK LINE. NISSAN STATES THEY CHECKED EVERYTHING OUT AND ALL LOOKS GOOD. I'LL TAKE THE CAR BACK IN ALONG WITH COPIES OF THESE COMPLAINTS. I TOOK AT LONG TRIP THAT WAS ABOUT A 4 HR DRIVE AND DID NOT EXPERIENCE WHAT OTHERS ARE SAYING WITH ACCELERATION, BUT MAY BE JUST NOW GETTING TO THAT POINT IN THE CARS TRANSMISSION ISSUES. *TR
MY 2010 NISSAN ALTIMA 2.5S ACCELERATES SLOWLY WHEN TURNING FROM A STOP. I MADE A LEFT TURN AGAINST ONCOMING TRAFFIC. THE ONCOMING CAR WAS ABOUT 200 FT AWAY. I PRESSED THE ACELLERATOR HARD. THE CVT TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT DISENGAGED.THE ENGINE REV'ED BUT THE TIRES DIDN'T SPIN. THE ONCOMING CAR MUST HAVE LOCKED HIS BRAKES AS I WAS HIT IN THE REAR QUARTER PANEL. THEIR WERE NO INJURIES. I HAD ONLY HAD THIS CAR THREE MONTHS AT THE TIME. I FEEL THE CVT TRANSMISSION SHOULD BE RECALLED AS I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE TO POST PROBLEM WITH THE CVT. *TT
