THIS IS THE 4TH TIME THE TRANSMISSION HAS GONE OUT ON THIS VEHICLE, AND THIS TIME IT HAPPENED ON THE STREET. I FEEL I WAS VERY FORTUNATE TO NOT GET STRUCK BY ANOTHER VEHICLE AS I GOT THE VEHICLE HOME. I PURCHASED THE VEHICLE IN 2006, THERE HAS TO BE AN ISSUE WITH THE TRANSMISSION IN THESE VEHICLES.

TRANSMISSION SHIFT ERRATICALLY! SLIPS, CLUNKS, SLAMS INTO OR OUT OF GEAR! THERE ARE TIMES IT IS SO BAD THE CAR IS UNSAFE TO OPERATE ON PUBLIC ROADS OR HIGHWAYS. SINCE I'VE EXPERIENCED THIS PROBLEM I HAVE READ MANY OTHER OF THE COMPLAINTS WHOM DESCRIBE THE SAME PROBLEMS. NISSAN NEEDS TO RECALL THIS CAR/TRANSMISSION. THE KNOW IT IS A DEADLY PROBLEM. IF THERE HAVE BEEN "UNEXPLAINED" INJURY OR DEADLY ACCIDENTS INVOLVING THE NISSAN MAXIMA THE NHTSB MAY WANT TO LOOK INTO THE TRANSMISSION FAILING AND CAUSING THE DEADLY ACCIDENT.

CAR LURCHES FORWARD WHEN COMING OUT OF TURNS, SEEMS LIKE IT IS GETTING CAUGHT DOWNSHIFTING FROM WHAT MUST BE 3RD GEAR DOWN TO SECOND..WHEN IT CATCHES, THE CAR TAKES OFF AND ACCELERATES FORWARD QUICKLY. BOUGHT THE CAR WITHOUT A WARRANTY AT 79,000 AND AM SHOCKED THIS HASN'T BEEN MADE INTO A RECALL YET FOR THE EXTREMELY DANGEROUS NATURE OF THE PROBLEM.

ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO WHILE DRIVING THE TRANSMISSION WOULD DOWN SHIFT TO SECOND OR FIRST GEAR, WHICH WOULD REV OUT THE MOTOR. SOMETIMES IT WOULD JERK HARSHLY BACK INTO GEAR. I REPLACED A SENSOR ON THE TRANSMISSION AND SOMEWHAT SOLVED THE PROBLEM. NOW ITS WORST THAN IT WAS BEFORE, I BASICALLY DROVE 10 MINUTES AT 20 MPH ON FIRST GEAR. I HOPE IT CAN BE FIXED THIS TIME. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE REVERSING THE VEHICLE, THE GEAR JERKED, VIBRATED, AND HESITATED TO SHIFT INTO DRIVE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS PRIOR TO RECEIVING A MANUFACTURER'S RECALL RELATED TO THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO INDICATED THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE DEALER REPLACED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND SERVICED THE TRANSMISSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DEALER'S REMEDY DID NOT PREVENT THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS TO BE DIAGNOSED AND REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 112,000.

AS I WAS DRIVING MY 2004 NISSAN MAXIMA THE CAR STARTED TO JERK. I WOULD BE DRIVING AND WHEN I COME TO A STOP AND START AGAIN THE CAR WOULD JERK REALLY HARD. WHERE PEOPLE ARE MORE SENSIBLE TOWARD OTHERS. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM AN SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET KILLED FROM THESE FAULTY TRANSMISSION. I HAVE TO GET A USED TRANSMISSION UNDER 1500 DOLLARS THAT I HAD TO BORROW TO KEEP MY CHILD SAFE. NISSAN SHOULD BE HELD COUNTABLE FOR THIS. I PAID 19000 DOLLARS FOR THIS CAR AND YOUR SCREW UP IS COSTING ME TO PUT A 2002-2003 TRANSMISSION IN MY CAR. THE TRANSMISSION SHOPS IN ALBANY GA. ARE THANKING NISSAN FOR THEIR 2500-3000 CONTRIBUTIONS THAT THE 2004-2005 MAXIMA OWNERS ARE SPENDING WITH THEM AND MY TRANSMISSION OWNER MADE THIS STATEMENT TO ME. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE VALVE BODY OF THE TRANSMISSION FAILED AND THAT THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. WHEN SHIFTING FROM PARK-REVERSE OR REVERSE-DRIVE, THE TRANSMISSION HAS A SHORT DELAY BEFORE "JUMPING" INTO GEAR. THIS PROBLEM WAS INTERMITTENT AND SEEMED TO ONLY OCCUR DURING EXTREMELY COLD TEMPERATURES. I HAD A TRANSMISSION FLUSH PERFORMED ($65) THAT SEEMED TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM BUT IT RETURNED WITHIN 5K MILES. SEVERAL MONTHS LATER, THE TRANSMISSION RANDOMLY BECAME UNRESPONSIVE AT SPEEDS OF 20-30MPH AT WHICH TIME THE RPMS WOULD INCREASE RAPIDLY WITH LOSS OF ACCELERATION. ANOTHER TRANSMISSION FLUSH WAS PERFORMED AND THE PROBLEM SEEMED WORSE. FINALLY WHILE DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT 70MPH THE VEHICLES TRANSMISSION SUDDENLY "SLAMMED" THEN THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT WAS ACTIVATED WITH A NOTICEABLE POWER LOSS. UPON SLOWING DOWN TO EXIT THE HIGHWAY THE VEHICLE STALLED AND DIED. IT RESTARTED BUT THE THROTTLE WAS RESTRICTED. THE VEHICLES GEAR WAS CHANGED TO MANUAL MODE AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE TRANSMISSION WAS STUCK IN 5TH GEAR. AT THAT POINT THE VEHICLE GOT STUCK IN 5TH GEAR AFTER 15-20 MIN OF DRIVING AND THE LOW SPEED POWER LOSS BECAME ALMOST CONSTANT. THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER DRIVEN UNTIL IT WAS PUT ON DIAGNOSTICS BY A TRANSMISSION SPECIALIST ($60) AND THE CODE INDICATED THE FAILURE OF 3 SENSORS: CAM POSITION SENSOR, ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION POSITION SENSOR AND TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP WAS CONTACTED TO INQUIRE ABOUT THE ISSUE AND THE ERROR CODES AND THEY ACKNOWLEDGED THIS AS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH NO SUGGESTIONS OTHER THAN REPLACING THE SENSORS. THE ELECTRONIC ACCELERATION POSITION SENSOR REQUIRED A NEW THROTTLE BODY WHICH WAS THEN REPLACED ($115). THE 2 CAM SENSORS ($120) AND TRANSMISSION SPEED SENSOR, AKA TRANSMISSION REVOLUTION OUTPUT SENSOR, WERE THEN PURCHASED ($125). I HAD TO TAKE THE CAR TO A NISSAN DEALER AND PAY ANOTHER $365 TO GET THE NEW SENSORS FLASHED. THE PROBLEM STILL REMAINS. I'M NOW LOOKING AT GETTING THE TRANNY REPLACED. *TR
