VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION AND ALL OF A SUDDEN GEARS STARTED TO SHIFT ON ITS OWN , SO STOPPED ON THE SIDE OF THE HIGHWAY AND TURNED OFF MY ENGINE THEN I TURNED IT BACK ON AFTER ABOUT 15 MINUTES AND IT WAS DRIVING WELL UNTIL AFTER ABOUT 10 MINUTES OF DRIVING THE GEARS WOULDN'T GO PAST 2ND GEAR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER, BUT WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 50,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 80 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED WITHOUT WARNING. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT CALLED THE DEALER, BUT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT BE DIAGNOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL; THEREFORE, NOTHING COULD BE DONE. CASE NUMBER: 26278170 WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 132,376.
TIMING CHAIN NOISE/TIMING CHAIN NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THIS NOISE STARTED WHEN THE VEHICLE HAD APPROXIMATELY 100,000 MILES ON IT.
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
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE ENGINE AND SLIP WARNING LIGHTS ILLUMINATED AND THE VEHICLE STALLED. ONCE THE VEHICLE FINALLY RESTARTED, THERE WAS A DELAY IN ACCELERATION AND THE SLIP LIGHT ILLUMINATED AGAIN. THE FAILURE OCCURRED MORE THAN TWICE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 102,300.
EVERY TIME THE CAR IS STARTED, THERE IS A GRINDING, METAL-ON-METAL SOUND FROM THE ENGINE. WE ASSUME THAT IT IS THE TIMING CHAIN THAT IS MAKING THIS NOISE SINCE THIS MOTOR USES PLASTIC PARTS IN THE TIMING CHAIN ASSY. *TR

NISSAN DID NOT COVERED IT. WE PAID @ $1700 CASH (MARCH 27, 2013) TO FIX THAT ISSUE. NOW AT THIS TIME, (I.E. JUNE 28, 2014) - THIS SIMILAR NOISE IS APPEARING AGAIN. CUSTOMER REQUEST: I AM AN ENGINEER; WHEN IT COMES TO SAFETY & QUALITY, I KNOW WHAT I AM TALKING ABOUT. ANYONE CAN FILE A LAWSUIT ? JUST TO BE READY FOR TIME AND MONEY (I WISH FOR THAT OPEN CHECK BOOK). MY CAR STARTING JERKING BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD GEARS. I MADE AN APPT WITH MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALER FOR A FEW DAYS LATER AND WITHIN THOSE FEW DAYS IT PROGRESSED TO SEVERE BUCKING BETWEEN GEARS AND I NO LONGER FELT IT WAS SAFE TO DRIVE, LUCKILY THE DEALER ISN'T FAR FROM MY HOUSE. I WAS TOLD MY TRANSMISSION NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AND 3 ENGINE MOUNTS WERE CRACKED. TOTAL COST $5200. I WASN'T ABLE TO COME UP WITH THAT MUCH MONEY SO THEY FIXED THE ENGINE MOUNTS AND FLUSHED AND FILLED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID TO GIVE ME A LITTLE MORE TIME. IT STILL JERKS BETWEEN 2ND AND 3RD AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED VERY SOON, BUT THIS IS A VERY EXPENSIVE REPAIR, $4,000!! IT IS ALSO A KNOWN PROBLEM THAT NISSAN SHOULD BE PAYING FOR!! THE FORUMS ARE FULL OF PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND THERE IS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT!! THE TECHNICIAN AT MY LOCAL DEALER EVEN MADE A COMMENT THAT THIS IS A "KNOWN PROBLEM". IT'S TIME TO MAKE NISSAN PAY FOR THE FAULTY TRANSMISSIONS THAT ARE CAUSING UNSAFE CARS TO BE ON THE ROAD. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE STOPPED WITH THE BRAKE PEDAL DEPRESSED, THE CONTACT SHIFTED FROM DRIVE TO PARK AND NOTICED A LOUD BANG AND THE VEHICLE ERRONEOUSLY LUNGED FORWARD. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN STATED THAT THE VALVE BODY NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 83,000.
IT HAS BEEN PROVEN AND REPORTED MANY TIMES ON THE INTERNET OF THE POOR DESIGN OF THE SECONDARY TIMING CHAINS, TENSIONERS, AND GUIDES FOR THIS PARTICULAR MODEL OF NISSAN. OWNERS OF THESE VEHICLES HAVE HAD TO PAY HUGE REPAIR BILLS DUE TO THE DEFECTIVE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS THAT WERE PLACED IN THIS VEHICLE WHEN IT WAS MANUFACTURED. THEY WEAR OUT PREMATURELY AND THE ENGINE HAS TO BE TAKEN OUT OF THE CAR TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS. THIS IS INEXCUSABLE ON THE PART OF NISSAN AND THE OWNERS SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY THESE HUGE REPAIR COSTS TO REPLACE A PART THAT WAS DEFECTIVE IN THE FIRST PLACE. *TR
WHEN THE VEHICLE GETS UP TO NORMAL OPERATION IT BEGINS JERKING EXTREMELY HARD AND SHIFTING HARD, SOMETIMES BANGS ON SHIFT AND REVS AND JUMPS INTO GEAR. I HAVE BEEN INFORMED THAT I NEED A NEW TRANSMISSION WHICH IS GOING TO COST AROUND $3700!!!! NOT TO MENTION EVERY MECHANIC THAT I TOOK IT TOO MENTION THAT THIS YEAR AND MAKE ARE NOTORIOUS FOR NEEDING THE TRANSMISSION REPLACED. *TR
MY 2005 NISSAN IS JERKING DANGEROUSLY WHILE SHIFTING FROM 1ST TO 2ND GEAR. ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT WITH MY CHILDREN IN THE CAR. NISSAN KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WHEN I BOUGHT THE CAR LESS THAN A YEAR AGO AND CHOSE NOT TO INFORM ME JUST TO MAKE A SELL. I BELIEVE THAT THE TRANNY IS DEFECTED AND SHOULD BE RECALLED AND NISSAN SEEMS TO REFUSE TO HELP WITH THIS PROBLEM. I AM CONCERNED FOR MY SAFETY AND SPENT 12,000 ON THE CAR NOW THEY ARE ASKING ME TO PAY 4500 FOR THE TRANNY. IF THIS WAS TOLD TO ME THAT THIS WAS A PROBLEM WHEN THE CAR WAS BOUGHT I WOULD HAVE WENT AND BROUGHT A HONDA INSTEAD. RIP OFF AND DANGER ALERT TO ANYONE THAT OWN THIS MODEL VEHICLE. *TT
TOOK THE CAR TO DEALERSHIP AND THEY DETECTED THAT THE TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS HAVE WORN OUT AND WILL NEED REPLACEMENT. THE PART IS MADE OF CHEAP PLASTIC AND FAILS IN 2005 MAXIMA CARS AFTER ABOUT 65000 MILES. THE PART COST IS ABOUT $50 BUT THE LABOR COST IS ABOUT $1500. THE PROCESS OF REPLACING THE PART REQUIRES TAKING OUT THE ENGINE. THIS IS AN EXPENSIVE CAR AND A POORLY DESIGNED PLASTIC PART IS INSTALLED WHICH HELPS CONTROL THE TIMING CHAIN OF THE ENGINE. IF THE PART FAILS EVENTUALLY THE ENGINE WILL FAIL. I AM DISAPPOINTED THAT THIS PROBLEM SHOWED UP AFTER MY WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED. THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE PAID FOR BY NISSAN AND NOT BY THE CUSTOMERS. *KB
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR BRAKE RELATED REPAIRS AND THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT BOTH OF THE MOTOR MOUNTS WERE FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE CONTACT PLANNED TO NOTIFY THE MANUFACTURER REGARDING THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 90,000.
I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALER MECHANIC THAT I AM HAVING PROBLEMS WITH MY TIMING CHAIN TIGHTENER. THIS PROBLEM WAS FIRST DIAGNOSED MORE THAN A YEAR AGO, AND I WAS TOLD THAT THE SOUND IT WAS MAKING WOULD WORSEN WITH TIME, AND THAT I SHOULD GET IT REPLACED BEFORE IT FAILS COMPLETELY. THE MECHANIC TOLD ME HE FEELS A RECALL SHOULD HAVE BEEN PLACED ON THIS PART, BUT SO FAR NO SUCH RECALL HAS BEEN MADE. THE INTERNET IS RIFE WITH SIMILAR STORIES, AND THE GENTLEMAN IN LINE IN FRONT OF ME HAD THE SAME DIAGNOSIS. *TR
CAR HAS STALLED ON A NUMBER OF OCCASIONS. FROM A STOP, THE CAR WILL NOT ACCELERATE NOR GO INTO GEAR, THEN AFTER A FEW MINUTES THE CAR WILL SLAM INTO GEAR AND SEND THE CAR LURCHING FORWARD. IT ACTUALLY FEELS AS THOUGH SOMEONE HAS HIT YOU FROM BEHIND. LUCKILY I WAS ALWAYS A DISTANCE AWAY FROM THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME AND/OR NOT CLOSE ENOUGH TO OTHER VEHICLES. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED FROM A SITUATION SUCH AS THIS. I HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT I NEED A WHOLE NEW TRANSMISSION. THERE ARE MANY, MANY SIMILAR DEFECTS NOTED ON-LINE WITH 04', 05', 06' AND 07' NISSANS. I HAVE ALSO BEEN TOLD BY NISSAN DEALERS THAT NISSAN IS REPLACING TRANSMISSIONS ON 07' MODELS BUT NOT ON THE EARLIER VEHICLES & THAT THERE IS A KNOWN DEFECT IN THEIR VALVE BODY WHICH RESULTS IN FAILED TRANSMISSIONS.

NISSAN MAXIMA, AUTOMATIC, SE, 6 CYL. 3.5L MILEAGE 75,000. PROBLEM: NISSAN DEALER. CONVERTER HEAT SHIELD RATTLE AND CRACK IN THE CATALYTIC CONVERTER. TO REPLACE CONVERTER NISSAN DEALER WANTED $1200.00 TO REPLACE. NISSAN WOULDN'T CONSIDER THE PROBLEM A DEFECT/ UNDER WARRANTY. MY SON'S CAR. *TR
I BROUGHT MY CAR TO NISSAN FOR SERVICE BECAUSE I HEARD A WHINING NOISE COMING FROM THE ENGINE. I WAS INFORMED BY NISSAN THAT THE TIMING CHAIN ON MY VEHICLE MAY NEED TO BE REPLACED. I HAVE A 2005 NISSAN MAXIMA WITH ONLY 50,000 MILES. IF THIS PART IS NOT REPLACED, THE CAR WILL STOP IMMEDIATELY AND WILL REQUIRE TOWING. I'M DISTURBED BY THIS ISSUE, BECAUSE NISSAN WAS MADE AWARE OF THIS ISSUE WITH THEIR 2005-2008 MODELS, SINCE 2006, AND HAVE ONLY LISTED THIS AS A BULLETIN. THERE HAVE BEEN MANY COMPLAINTS AND FORUMS ON THIS ISSUE, HOWEVER THEY DO NOT DEEM THIS AS A RECALL. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE, BECAUSE IF A VEHICLE HALTS IN THE MIDDLE OF A HIGHWAY, THIS CAN BE A DISASTER WAITING TO HAPPEN. ALSO THERE MAY BE EXTENSIVE DAMAGE TO THE ENGINE. I ALSO HAVE A 1995 MAXIMA THAT HAS NEVER UNDERGONE A TIMING CHAIN REPLACEMENT. I'M HOPING THAT SOMEONE WILL LOOK INTO THIS ISSUE. *TR

FAILURE OF TIMING CHAIN & TENSIONERS. UPON HEARING WHINING NOISE TOOK 2005 MAXIMA TO DEALER WHO VERIFIED NOISE WAS DUE TO AN IMPENDING FAILURE OF THE TIMING CHAINS AND TENSIONERS. RESEARCHED PROBLEM & DISCOVER THAT THIS MANUFACTURING DEFECT INVOLVED ENGINES MADE FROM 2004 TO 2007 AFFECTING MAXIMA'S, QUEST'S, ALTIMA'S, PATHFINDER'S, &XTERRRA'S. WE CONTACTED NISSAN USA & WERE INFORMED THAT NISSAN HAD NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THIS PROBLEM AND SINCE OUR 36,000 MILES HAD EXPIRED WE WERE ON OUR OWN. (CASE #6392191) NO CHOICES LEFT WE PAID THIS REPLACEMENT OF DEFECTIVE PARTS TO THE PRICE TAG OF $2800.93. APPEALED TO NISSAN USA AGAIN BUT WAS TREATED LIKE THE PROVERBIAL RED-HEADED SON EVEN THOUGH WE HAVE PURCHASED 3 NEW NISSAN MAXIMA'S IN THE LAST 10 YEARS. THERE IS NO WAY THAT WE DID ANYTHING TO MAKE THIS PROBLEM OCCUR. IT IS A CASE OF MANUFACTURING DEFECTIVE PARTS!!! *TR

THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A REPAIR SHOP AND THEY DISCOVERED THAT THE CRANK SENSOR FAILED. THE MECHANIC RESET THE SENSOR. HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THEY STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 03V455000 (ENGINE AND ENGINE COOLING). THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 68,174.
