MY VEHICLE WAS DRIVEN TO AND PARKED AT MY PLACE OF EMPLOYMENT IN THE AM AND BY NOON MY VEHICLE WOULD NOT START. I WAS LEAVING MY JOB BY NOON TO GO TO THE HOSPITAL- SEQUENTIALLY I WAS I'LL. I HAD TO GET A RIDE TO HANDLE MY MEDICAL NEEDS. I LATER HAD TO HAVE MY CAR TOWED TO NISSIAN, WHERE I WAS BILLED FOR A RECALLED ITEM: THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK WHICH HAS BEEN PART OF RECALL SINCE 2017.

STOPPED AT CONVENIANCE STORE AND SHUT CAR OFF. TRIED TO RESTART CAR AND IT WON'T START. HAD IT TOWED TO THE DEALER SHIP WHERE I BOUGHT IT. FOUND THAT IT WAS THE STEERING LOCK THAT HAD FAILED. COST TO REPLACE WAS 1300 DOLLARS. FOUND OUT THIS IS A HIGH FAILURE PART AND SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS A PROGRESSING FAILURE IN WHICH THE PUSH BUTTON START FAILED TO FUNCTION. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE IGNITION LOCK MECHANISM INTERNALLY MALFUNCTIONED, WHICH PREVENTED THE VEHICLE FROM STARTING ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR FURTHER DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THE ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK WENT OUT AND I WAS UNABLE TO START MY CAR. I HAD TO HAVE THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR WHICH I HAD TO PAY $1,100 TO GET A PROBLEM FIXED I NEVER EVEN HEARD OF. THERE WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS PART THAT "EXPIRED" A YEAR AND A HALF AGO. NISSAN NEVER RECALLED THIS PART THAT IS CLEARLY A PROBLEM.

ESCL PART IS DEFECTIVE. MAKES CAR COMPLETELY INOPERABLE. MANUFACTURER KNOWS ORIGINAL PART IS DEFECTIVE BUT NO RECALL. EXTENDED WARRANTY HAS EXPIRED AND NOW PART COST HAS DOUBLED. PART WAS $380 BUT NOW IS $680 WITH A SLIGHTLY DIFFERENT PART NUMBER. COST DOUBLED AFTER WARRANTY EXPIRED!

THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK UNIT FAILED MAKING THE CAR NOT START LEAVING MY WIFE STRANDED AT A CONVENIENCE STORE ON A COLD NIGHT. NISSAN KNOWS THIS IS A WIDESPREAD PROBLEM BUT IS STILL LETTING ITS CUSTOMERS FOOT THE $1000 BILL FOR THEIR POOR DESIGN. IT IS A SAFETY PROBLEM WHEN IT LEAVES MY WIFE STRANDED!

ELECTRONIC STEERING COLUMN LOCK. 41.4 K MILES ON CAR. PARKED CAR, WENT TO START, KEY LIGHT WENT ON AND THE CAR WAS IMMOBILIZED. TOWED TO DEALERSHIP, FILED A REPORT WITH NISSAN. WARRANTY EXTENSION SPECIFIC TO THIS ISSUE NO LONGER AVAILABLE BY 6 MONTHS. $1,071 REPAIR DENIED BY NISSAN BECAUSE IT WAS OUT OF WARRANTY. COULD HAVE BEEN MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE IF I WAS STUCK IN A REMOTE LOCATION.

I WAS NEVER NOTIFIED THAT MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA HAS A MALFUNCTION CALLED STEERING WHEEL LOCK FAILURE. MY CAR WAS ON A CITY STREET WHEN IT WOULD NOT START, IT WOULD NOT RECOGNIZE MY KEYS FOB, AND I WAS NOT ABLE TO START THE CAR WITH THE PUSH TO START BUTTON. NOTHING HAPPENED. NOTHING ON THE DASHBOARD WOULD SHOW. I HAD MY CAR TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THIS MALFUNCTION IS COSTING ME A LOT OF MONEY. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND THIS MALFUNCTION IS SOMETHING THAT A LOT OF PEOPLE HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT AND I DON'T UNDERSTAND WHY THIS IS NOT SOMETHING THAT WOULD BE A RECALL. IF THIS WAS A RECALL, THEN I NEVER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER BECAUSE I WOULD HAVE GOT THIS FIXED A LOT SOONER BEFORE IT HAPPENED TO ME.

I WAS AT THE GAS STATION GETTING GAS. WHEN I WENT TO TRY AND START IT UP THE CAR IGNITION REMAINS IN THE LOCK POSITION. THE CAR WILL NOT DO ANYTHING. IN THE FAR LEFT CONSOLE THE KEY SYMBOL REMAINS LIT ON THE DASH BOARD. THE KEY REMAINS LIT ON THE DASHBOARD. I HAVE BEEN READING DIFFERENT FORUMS AND IT SAID THAT IT IS THE STEERING WHEEL LOCK. MY CAR WILL NOT START AT ALL AND I EVEN CHANGED MY BATTERY OUT. *TR

THE VEHICLE HAD TO BE TOWED TO THE DEALER, WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THAT THE GEAR LOCK MODULE MALFUNCTIONED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 109,000.

THE STEERING COLUMN IS LOCK AND THE CAR WON'T START USING THE INTELLIGENT KEY SYSTEM. THIS WAS A PROBLEM WITH MANY CAR OWNERS AND NISSAN ISSUED AN EXTENDED WARRANTY WHICH ALLOWED FOR OWNERS TO HAVE THEIR CAR REPAIRED IF THIS ISSUE HAPPENED WITHIN THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I PURCHASED MY CAR USED AND DIDN'T EXPERIENCE THIS PROBLEM UNTIL AFTER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY EXPIRED. I FEEL NISSAN SHOULD HAVE RECALLED ALL CARS OF THIS MODEL TO CORRECT A PROBLEM THAT IS CLEARLY DUE TO POOR MANUFACTURING. THE RECALL WOULD HAVE COSTED MORE MONEY, BUT IT'S THE RIGHT THING TO DO.

WENT TO THE SUPERMARKET AND THE CAR WOULD NOT TURN BACK ON. THE KEY LIGHT ON THE DASH BOARD IS LITE BUT THE CAR IS IN LOCK MODE AND DOESN'T ALLOW THE CAR TO TURN ON. IT SEEMS THAT THE CAR ISN'T RECOGNIZING THAT THE KEY IS NEAR TO ALLOW IT TO BE TURNED ON. I THINK THERE SHOULD BE A RECALL ON THIS ISSUE. I'VE SEEN HUNDREDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME ISSUE. I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO FIX THE ISSUE OR GET IT TOWED. THE CAR IS STILL IN THE SUPERMARKET PARKING LOT. THIS IS A NIGHTMARE. ON 3/3/14 MY 2009 NISSAN MAXIMA WOULD NOT START. SYMPTOMS OF THIS ISSUE - KEY RECOGNIZED(UNLOCKS AND WHEN INSERTED INTO KEY FOB PORT THERE IS A NOTIFICATION) - PRESSING START BUTTON DOES NOT WORK, LOCKED REMAINS ILLUMINATED(EG ACC AND ON DO NOT ACTIVATE) - NISSAN INTELLIGENT KEY WARNING LIGHT - ALL LIGHTS COME ON IN THE CAR - BRAKE LIGHTS WORK - ELECTRONIC SEATS STILL MOVE I EXPERIENCED A DEAD BATTERY JUST 3 MONTHS EARLIER SO I WAS SURE THIS WAS NOT THE ISSUE. PLUS I HAD A NEW BATTERY. I GOOGLED A COMBINATION OF THE SYMPTOMS WITH MY MODEL/YEAR AND MANY LINKS CAME UP. TURNED OUT TO BE THE "STEERING LOCK FAILURE" WHICH WAS UNDER A EXTENDED WARRANTY. 5 YEARS OR 72 K MILES. WORST PART OF THE EXPERIENCE WAS DEALING WITH THE PEOPLE AT THE MIDWAY NISSAN ON BELL ROAD DEALERSHIP IN PHOENIX. THE EXPERIENCE LEFT ME KNOWING THAT THEY CARE MORE ABOUT MAKING MONEY TODAY THAN EARNING RETURN CUSTOMERS. LUCKILY THEY WARRANTY PAID FOR EVERYTHING. I RESEARCHED THE ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND SOME INFORMATION THAT THIS HAS HAPPENED TO MANY PEOPLE WITH THE SAME SYSTEM. THIS VEHICLE IS VERY NEW AND HAS LOW MILES. IT DOES NOT SEEM FAIR THAT BECAUSE OF POOR DESIGN THAT A WORKING INDIVIDUAL SHOULD HAVE TO COVER THE REPAIR COSTS OF THE COMMONLY OCCURRING MALFUNCTION. *TR

MY CAR WAS PARKED IN MY PARKING SPOT AT MY TOWN HOME.I WENT TO START IT AND THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DEAD.I WENT TO RELEASE THE TRUNK LID AND THE TRUNK WOULD NOT OPEN IT OPERATES ON THE BATTERY.THERE IS NO KET SLOT TO OPEN THE TRUNK.I CONTACTED CONSUMER AFFAIRS AT NISSAN AND THEY AGREED THERE IS NO KEY SLOT ON THE TRUNK.WHEN ASKED THEM HOW TO GET IN MY TRUNK TO GET MY BATTERY CABLES AND MY EMERGENCY KIT(WHICH CAME WITH THE CAR).I WAS TOLD THE ONLY WAY TO OPEN THE TRUNK WAS TO RELEASE THE BACK REST ON THE REAR SEAT AND CRAWL IN THE TRUNK AND PULL THE RELEASE ON THE TRUNK LID.WHEN ASKED IS THERE A FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM I WAS TOLD NO.I AM A MAN OF 70YRS.OLD WITH A BAD BACK HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO CRAWL IN A TRUNK.AS I STATED THE CAR CAME WIT AN EMERGENCY KIT WHAT GOOD IS IT IF I CAN'T GET TO IT.TO ME THIS A VERY DANGEROUS PROBLEM.IF WERE ON THE SIDE OF A ROAD WHEN THIS HAPPENED WHEN CARS ARE DOING 60 TO 70 MPH I COULD GET HURT OR KILLED I WOULD APPRECIATE SOME ONE LOOKING INTO THIS DANGEROUS PROBLEM. *TR

THE FIRE DEPARTMENT WAS CONTACTED AND A REPORT WAS FILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHERE THE DEALER CONFIRMED THAT THE ALTERNATOR HAD MELTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 130,000.

WHILE TRAVELING IN THE NUMBER (2) LANE OF THE US 405 N FREEWAY AT SPEEDS OF OVER 65 MPH, I NOTICED THAT THE BATTERY LIGHT STARTED FLICKERING, AND WITHIN 10 SECONDS THE ACCELERATOR CEASED TO RESPOND WHEN PRESSURE WAS APPLIED. WHEN THE ACCELERATOR WAS PUSHED, THE ENGINE WOULD REV, AND THE RPM GAUGE WOULD SHOW THE GAUGE MOVING UP, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. I PUSHED THE ACCELERATOR ALL THE WAY INWARDS, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESPOND. APPROXIMATELY 15-20 SECONDS LATER, I NOTICED THAT THE ENGINE CEASED OPERATING, AND THE WHEEL LOCKED. I WAS ALSO UNABLE TO APPLY THE BRAKES, AS WHEN I PUSHED THE BRAKES NOTHING HAPPENED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL FELT VERY STIFF AND NON-RESPONSIVE. AT THE SAME TIME, LIGHTS ON THE DASHBOARD CLUSTER WERE ILLUMINATED. I STARTED PANICKING AS I HAD NO CONTROL OF A VEHICLE TRAVELING OVER 60 MPH ON A FREEWAY DURING EVENING HOURS LOS ANGELES TRAFFIC. I IMMEDIATELY ACTIVATED MY EMERGENCY INDICATORS, AND WAITED IN COMPLETE PANIC UNTIL THE VEHICLE CAME TO A ROLLING STOP ON THE SIDE OF THE FREEWAY. DURING THE SAME EVENING, THE VEHICLE STARTED TO EXHIBIT THE SAME MALFUNCTIONS AS EXPERIENCED EARLIER THAT DAY AND THE VEHICLE DIED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE STREET. DIAGNOSIS: CLIENT STATES VEHICLE WON'T START. BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS ARE ON AFTER CHARGING THE BATTERY PERFORMED BATTERY TEST WITH THE BATTERY TESTER CENTER MIDTRONICS NISSAN MCR620. GR8 BATTERY TESTER WAS UNABLE AT THIS TIME. TEST RESULTS GOOD BATTERY AND CHARGING SYSTEM INCIDENT. UPON INSPECTION TERMINAL 1 CONNECTOR F6 FOUND TERMINAL MELTING WHERE CONNECT TO ALTERNATOR AND ALSO PART OF THE HARNESS AND ALTERNATOR BURNT DUE TO TERMINAL NUT LOOSE AND HAS MUCH PLAY. CALL NISSAN TECH LINE, AND REPORT THE INCIDENT AND ALSO FOR HELP. *TR THE CONSUMER ALSO STATED WHEN HE APPLIED THE BRAKE, THE STEERING WHEEL AND THE ENTIRE VEHICLE STARTED TO SHAKE.
