A WIRE BROKE INSIDE THE ALTERNATOR CAUSING THE BATTERY TO STOP FROM CHARGING. MY FAMILY WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60MPH ON THE HIGHWAY WHEN THE CHARGER WARNING AND BRAKE WARNING LAMPS CAME ON. THE BATTERY BEGAN TO DISCHARGE AND THE CAR LOST POWER. WE PULLED OVER TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD AND THE ENGINE WENT INTO A "FALL SAFE" MODE (ALL DASH INDICATORS AND RADIO DISPLAY FLASHED RAPIDLY) AND THEN THE ENGINE STOPPED RUNNING. THE ENGINE WOULD NOT RESTART AND THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED.

THIS CAR HAS HAD A LOT OF ELECTRICAL ISSUES. THE CAM SHAFT POSITION SENSORS HAVE HAD TO BE REPLACED THREE TIMES AND THE ECU HAD TO BE REPLACED. THE SUNROOF IS ALSO DEAD. THE BOSE STEREO IS ALWAYS GOING OUT. I'M UPSET BECAUSE THERE WAS MANY VINS THAT NISSAN COVERED BECAUSE THEY RECOGNIZED THAT THERE WAS A ISSUE, BUT MINE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. THIS IS A SAFETY HAZARD! YOUR CAR CAN DIE AT ANY TIME, ANY SPEED AND ANY WHERE. MY CAR IS NOW IN THE SHOP FOR THE 3RD TIME WITH CAM SENSOR ISSUES AFTER BEING STRANDED TWICE. THE CAR JUST WON'T START. THE BATTERY, ALTERNATOR AND STARTER ALL CHECK OUT GOOD.

I WAS DRIVING ON A LARGE BYPASS 55 MPH. SUDDENLY, MY SPEED AND RPM'S DROPPED EVEN WITH PUSHING MY GAS PEDAL TO THE FLOOR. I PULLED OVER, PUT MY CAR IN PARK, AND TOUCHED THE GAS PEDAL. THE RPM'S INCREASED NORMALLY SO I BEGAN DRIVING AGAIN. WITHIN A SHORT DISTANCE IT HAPPENED AGAIN. I GOT OFF THE BYPASS AND PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT. I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND CHECKED MY FLUIDS. I RESTARTED THE CAR AND PULLED BACK OUT ONTO THE ROAD (40 MPH HIGHWAY). AS SOON AS I PULLED OUT IT DID IT AGAIN. I PULLED ONTO A BACKROAD. I NOTICED THEN THAT MY ABS LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT HAD COME ON. I TURNED ON MY 4 WAYS SINCE MY CAR WOULD NOT GO OVER 10 MPH. WHEN I TURNED THEM ON I HEARD WHAT SOUNDED LIKE AN ELECTRIC SHORT AND ALL OF MY LIGHTS AND GAUGES BEGAN FLICKERING WILDLY. WITH A VERY SHORT DISTANCE I BEGAN LOSING POWER TO EVERYTHING UNTIL MY CAR COMPLETELY STOPPED. I WAS ON THE SIDE OF A DARK ROAD AT 11 PM WITH NO LIGHTS OR POWER. WHEN THE TOW TRUCK ARRIVED HE SAID THAT SOUNDS LIKE THE ALTERNATOR. I LOOKED UP THE COST OF AN ALTERNATOR FOR MY VEHICLE AND FOUND OUT THERE WAS A RECALL ON MY VEHICLE YEAR, MAKE AND MODEL: JULY 14, 2005 NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 05V319000 WIRE BREAKING INSIDE ALTERNATOR. THIS RECALLED DESCRIBED EXACTLY WHAT I HAD EXPERIENCED. IN THE MORNING, I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REGARDING THIS AND AFTER A CALL BACK I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS "NO OPEN RECALL" ON MY VEHICLE. THEN I CALLED CUSTOMER AFFAIRS AT NISSAN CORPORATE FOR CLARIFICATION. I WAS TOLD THAT MY CAR'S RECALL WAS REPAIRED AT A DEALERSHIP (ALTHOUGH THEY HAD NO RECORD OF WHICH DEALERSHIP DID THE REPAIR) ON AN UNKNOWN DATE "BETWEEN 2005 AND THE PRESENT" SO NISSAN HAS CLOSED THIS RECALL AND IS NO LONGER RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. I WAS INFORMED THAT EVEN IF I TOOK MY CAR IN AND IT WAS VERIFIED THAT THIS WAS THE SAME PROBLEM, THAT THEY WOULD NOT PAY FOR IT. I HAVE A CASE NUMBER FROM MY CALL TO NISSAN.

PLEASE HELP! I HAVE BEEN HAVING ISSUES WITH THIS CAR EVER SINCE I BOUGHT IT AT THIS SMALL DEALER IN ARLINGTON VA. SATURDAY MARCH 3, 2012, MY NISSAN MURANO STALLED. I AM AFRAID THE CAR WILL STALL WHEN I AM DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY AND THIS COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUES FOR ME AND OTHER INNOCENT PEOPLE. THIS IS NOT THE FIRST TIME IT STALLED. THE VEHICLE THEN BEGAN TO DECELERATE TO 30 MPH AND DEMONSTRATED A SIGNIFICANT REDUCTION IN ENGINE POWER. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO ACCELERATE BEYOND 30 MPH. SINCE I PURCHASED MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO, I HAVE HAD SEVERAL FAILURES WITH IT THAT THE DEALER HAS EITHER CLAIMED THEY CANNOT REPRODUCE, HAS FAILED TO FIX OR INDICATES THAT MY MODEL IS NOT PART OF A RECALL EFFORT, EVEN WHEN MY CAR IS REPRODUCING THE VERY SAME SYMPTOMS THE RECALLS STATE THEY ADDRESS. THE LAST INCIDENT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THE FAILURE OF THE CAM POSITION SENSORS AND CRANK POSITION SENSORS. BOTH HAVE CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO SIMPLY STOP IN ONGOING TRAFFIC CREATING AN OBVIOUS SAFETY HAZARD FOR MY FAMILY! THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS ALSO BEGAN TO ILLUMINATE ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTICS. THE BATTERY WAS REPLACED, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND RECCURRED INTERMITTENTLY AT DIFFERENT SPEEDS ON THREE OCCASIONS. AFTER THE FINAL FAILURE, THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED HOME. THE PASSENGER SIDE DOOR LOCK IS NOT LOCKING OR UNLOCKING COMPLETELY WHEN USING THE REMOTE OR KEY. IT APPEARS TO BE LOCKED, BUT THE DOOR CAN BE OPENED FROM OUTSIDE THE CAR AND VISA VERSA. STARTING IN MAY 2011, THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR LOCK IS DOING THE SAME THING. I'M ALSO UNABLE TO ENTER THE VEHICLE THROUGH NEITHER OF THE FRONT DOORS AND HAVE TO ENTER THROUGH THE BACK DOORS TO UNLOCK THE FRONT DOORS MANUALLY FROM THE INSIDE. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS I OR A PASSENGER CAN GET LOCKED OUT OF THE CAR OR THINK THE DOOR IS LOCKED WHILE IN THE CAR AND SOMEONE FROM THE OUTSIDE COULD GAIN ACCESS. IN CASE OF EMERGENCY, I MAY OR MAY NOT BE ABLE TO GET INTO OR OUT OF THE CAR. STARTING IN NOVEMBER 2010 WHILE RAISING THE WINDOW ON THE PASSENGER SIDE WITH THE POWER WINDOW BUTTON, IT AUTOMATICALLY LOWERS ON IT'S OWN ON OCCASION. IT STOPS WHEN HALF OPEN. TO KEEP IT CLOSED, I HAVE TO INCH IT UP SLOWLY. AGAIN THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE. THE LOCK TO THE GAS CAP FAILED TO OPEN AROUND 40,000 MILES.

WE PURCHASED A NEW 2003 NISSAN MURANO WHEN THEY FIRST CAME OUT. OVER TIME WE NOTICED THAT THE CAR WOULD STALL ALMOST ALL THE TIME AFTER WE FIRST STARTED IT IN THE MORNING. WE DID NOT THINK MUCH ABOUT THIS AND JUST DEALT WITH IT AFTER TAKING IT TO OUR NISSAN DEALER WHO COULD NOT TELL US WHAT WAS WRONG. THIS WAS A FEW YEARS AGO. THREE DAYS AGO MY WIFE WAS DRIVING HOME FROM WORK AND THE CAR JUST DIED WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING AND THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. IMMEDIATLEY THE NEXT MORNING WE TOOK THE CAR TO OUR LOCAL CAR REPAIR SHOP IN PURCELLVILLE, VA TO HAVE THE CAR LOOKED AT. I DID NOT FEE COMFORTABLE TAKING THE CAR TO OUR NEAREST NISSAN DEALER 30 MILES AWAY GIVEN WHAT JUST HAPPENED. THE REPAIR SHOP CALLED AND SAID OUR CAR HAD A VOLUNTARY RECALL FOR CAMSHAFT POSITION SENSORS AND THEY WAS CAUSING THE PROBLEM. THEY PRINTED OUT THE RECALL AND TOLD ME TO CALL NISSAN TO HAVE THEM FIX THE PROBLEM INSTEAD OF HAVING TO PAY MY LOCAL REPAIR SHOP. I CALLED OUR NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND REPORTING MY PROBLEM AND THEY TOLD ME THE VIN OF MY CAR WAS NOT PART OF THE VOLUNTARY RECALL. I OWN A 2003 NISSAN MURANO. I BOUGHT THE VEHICLE SEVERAL MONTHS AGO.. LAST NIGHT WE WERE DRIVING ON A VERY CURVY MOUNTAIN ROAD WHEN A CAR CAME INTO SIGHT. WHEN WE SWITCHED TO DIM, THE LIGHTS WENT OUT COMPLETELY. THIS PUT US IN TOTAL DARKNESS. IT TOOK A MINUTE TO ADJUST OUR EYES AND REALIZE WHAT HAPPENED. THIS HAS HAPPENED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. THE DIMMER SWITCH IS ON THE STEERING WHEEL. THE SWITCH TO TURN THEM OFF IS ON THE END OF THE DIMMER HANDLE. WE KEEP OUR RUNNER LIGHTS ON EACH TIME WE ARE DRIVING THE CAR. SOME HOW WHEN YOU GO TO SWITCH THE LIGHTS THE KNOB TURNS TO OFF, WHICH MAKES THEM GO OUT, WHEN YOU SWITCH FROM BRIGHT TO DIM AND FROM DIM TO BRIGHT. THIS IS A VERY SCARY SITUATION TO BE IN. MC THE CONSUMER STATED UPON CONTACTING THE DEALER TO SEE IF THE WARRANTY COVERED THE MECHANICAL FAILURE, SHE WAS INFORMED THERE WAS A RECALL ISSUED FOR THIS VEHICLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM SHE WAS ENCOUNTERING WITH THE VEHICLE WHICH WAS THE ALTERNATOR. THE CAR WAS PURCHASED IN JULY 05 BUT THE RECALL WAS ISSUED BACK IN MAY OF 05, SO THAT MIGHT BE WHY THE CONSUMER WAS NOT INFORMED. HOWEVER, THE CONSUMER IS SURPRISED TO KNOW THAT THE DEALER DID NOT REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR DUE TO THE RECALL PRIOR TO THE PURCHASE OF THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER PROVIDED A COPY OF THE INVOICE AND WOULD LIKE TO BE REIMBURSED FOR THE REPAIRS. *TR

I WAS PULLING OFF THE FREEWAY WHEN MY CAR STARTED TO HESITATE. WHEN I GOT TO THE LIGHT MY CAR STALLED AND THE PANEL LIGHTS DIMMED. AFTER SOME TIME I WAS ABLE TO GET TO A SAFE PLACE TO CALL AAA AND I TOWED THE CAR TO THE DEALER. I WAS TOLD IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THEY DIDN'T HAVE THE PART AND I HAD TO WAIT OVER A WEEK AND 1/2 BEFORE I WAS ABLE TO GET MY CAR BACK. *TR
