THE BRAKE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT CAME ON MY 2003 MURANO, ABOUT 5,000 MILES AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRED. I CALLED THE DEALERSHIP THE NEXT MORNING AND WAS TOLD IT WAS LIKELY THE ALTERNATOR AND TOLD THE VEHICLE MAY NOT MAKE IT IN TO THE DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR (IT SEEMS THEY KNEW OF THIS PROBLEM BEFORE EVEN EXAMINING IT). I HAD ANOTHER CAR FOLLOW ME IN BUT LUCKILY MADE IT IN BUT THE PROBLEM WAS THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AND HAD TO BE REPLACED FOR $560. I HAVE RECENTLY GONE ONLINE AND FOUND THIS IS AN ALL TO COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ALTERNATOR IN THIS VEHICLE AND NISSAN NEEDS TO ADDRESS THIS, I WAS LUCKY NOT TO BE STRANDED.*AK
MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO IS IN THE SHOP HAVE TO THE ALTERNATOR REPLACED FOR THE THIRD TIME IN LESS THAN A YEAR. THE FIRST TIME TIME IT WENT OUT WAS IN SEPT-04. IT WAS UNDER WARRANTY AND THE DEALER CAME AND TOWED IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND REPLACED IT. I HAD THE SAME PROBLEM ONE MONTH AGO ON MY WAY TO CALIFORNIA FROM UTAH. I HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE DEALER. THEY SAID IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR AND THE BATTERY. IT COST OVER$500.00FOR PARTS AND LABOR PLUS THE COST OF THE TOW. THREE DAYS AGO IT WENT OUT AGAIN. THIS TIME THEY SAID THAT THE ALTERNATOR WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY BUT WE HAD TO PAY FOR THE TOW AGAIN. I AM AFRAID TO DRIVE IT OUT OF TOWN. I JUST READ THAT THERE IS A RECALL THANKS TO YOUR ORGANIZATION. I HOPE THE DELERSHIP WILL BE ABLE TO CORRECT THE PROBLEM W/O THE RECALL LETTER. I WOULD ALSO LIKE TO SEE A REFUND.
BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS LIT UP AND THE VEHICLE LOST POWER TO ACCELERATE/KEEP UP WITH 65 MPH TRAFFIC ON I-50 EAST HIGHWAY. NEED TO CRAWL BACK TO DEALERSHIP AND DRIVE UNDER 40 MPH SPEED, VERY DANGEROUS! EVERY CARS BEHIND ME LITERALLY NEED TO SLAM THEIR BRAKES AS I WAS SLOWING DOWN THE TRAFFIC ON THE LEFT LANE. DEALER'S DIAGNOSTIC WAS: THE INFAMOUS ALTERNATOR FAILURE ON THIS VEHICLE MODEL.

BOUGHT CAR IN 2003, BATTERY HAD TO BE REPLACED WITHIN A WEEK OF PURCHASE. A YEAR LATER, THE ALTERNATOR HAD TO BE REPLACED. LAST WEEK, WHILE DRIVING THE CAR STOPPED WHILE TRYING TO TURN LEFT AT INTERSECTION. COULD NOT PUT CAR INTO PARK, TURN ON HAZARD LIGHT, OR PULL CAR KEYS OUT. TOWED TO DEALER BY TRIPLE AAA. DEALER CLAIMS THAT BATTERY CABLE WAS LOOSE. I DO NOT WORK ON MY CAR OR OPEN THE HOOD OTHER WHEN THE DEALER DOES THE MAINTENANCE.
BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON. I KNEW FROM READING POSTS ON A "MURANO" FORUM THAT THIS WAS A POSSIBLE SYMPTOM OF IMMINENT ALTERNATOR FAILURE. I WAS ONLY A MILE FROM HOME WHEN THE LIGHTS CAME ON, SO I WAS ABLE TO GET HOME SAFELY. I DO, HOWEVER, RESIDE OVER 20 MILES FROM THE NEAREST DEALER. IN ORDER TO GET IT TO THE DEALER FOR SERVICE, I DROVE MY OTHER CAR TO THE STORE AND PURCHASED A BATTERY TESTER/CHARGER. I KNEW FROM THE FORUM THAT I MAY BE ABLE TO DRIVE TO THE DEALER IN THIS STATE IF THE BATTERY HAD A FULL CHARGE. WHEN I TESTED IT, IT WAS ONLY OPERATING @ 60%. I CHARGED IT FULLY, THEN DROVE TO THE DEALER TO HAVE THE CAR CHECKED OUT. I MUST SAY THAT IT WAS NO FUN DRIVING TO THE DEALER (ON THE HIGHWAY) KNOWING THAT AT ANY TIME I COULD LOSE ALL POWER. I STAYED IN THE RIGHT HAND LANE ALL THE WAY SO THAT I COULD PULL OVER IN A HURRY IF NEEDED. TURNS OUT IT WAS THE ALTERNATOR. THE OLD PART IS NOT AVAILABLE. THEY TOLD ME THEY HAD TO INSTALL A REMANUFACTURED PART, AND SEND THE FAILED PART TO NISSAN. I DON'T EVEN HAVE 19,000 MILES ON THIS VEHICLE. THINGS LIKE THIS SHOULD NOT BE HAPPENING ON A $30,000 CAR! I FEEL LUCKY THAT I KNEW ABOUT THIS PROBLEM WITH MY CAR, AND WAS ON THE LOOK OUT FOR THE LIGHTS. IF I HAD BEEN UNAWARE, AS MOST ARE, THINGS COULD HAVE BEEN WORSE. WHO KNOWS WHEN I WOULD HAVE NOTICED THESE LIGHTS? THE CAR COULD HAVE LOST ALL POWER AT NIGHT ON THE HIGHWAY THAT I TRAVEL EVERY DAY!
NISSAN MURANO 2003 - 26000 MILES - BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHTS CAME ON INDICATING AN ALTERNATOR FAILURE ACCORDING TO THE DEALER. I BROUGHT THE CAR TO THE DEALER WITHIN 50 MILES OF THE LIGHTS COMMING ON. THE CAR CONTINUED TO RUN AND START AFTER IT WAS TURNED OFF AT THE DEALER BUT THE INDICATOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON. THE REPAIR WAS COVERED UNDER THE WARRANTEE, BUT I DID HAVE TO LEAVE THE CAR DUE THE TIME IT TAKES TO REPLACE IT. THEY HAD THE ALTERNATOR IN STOCK,
THE ALTERNATOR ON MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO FAILED. THERE WERE 22,450 MILES ON THE CAR. IT WAS REPLACED UNDER THE 3 YEAR 36,000 MILE WARRANTY
OWN A NISSAN MURANO. IT HAS 25000K ON IT. THIS A.M. THE BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS WENT ON AS THE CAR WAS IN MOTION. APPARENTLY THERE SEEMS TO BE A DEFECT WITH MURANOS' ALTERNATOR; FOUND THIS INFORMATION ON THE WEBSITE AND IMMEDIATELY TOOK MY CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP. THEY ARE CURRENTLY REPLACING THE ALTERNATOR.
DT: CONTACT STATES THE ALTERNATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AFTER LOSING POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, BUT THE CONTACT COULD NOT ACCELERATE TO GET THE VEHICLE OUT OF THE ROAD. VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A MAIN SERVICE CENTER WHERE THEY REPLACED THE ALTERNATOR. WHILE STARTING THE VEHICLE IT WILL START, THEN STALL. AFTER THE 2ND OR 3RD TIME IT WILL START. SERVICE DEALER STATED THE ENGINE STALLING WAS NOT FROM THE ALTERNATOR.*AK
I WAS DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY WHEN THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I BARELY EXITED THE FREEWAY AND FOUND A GAS STATION BEFORE THE CAR DIED. THERE ARE 36,400 MILES ON MY CAR AND FOOTHILL NISSAN TOLD ME THAT THE WARRANTY COVERED ONLY UNTIL 36,000. THEY WON'T REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE ALTERNATOR SINCE I AM 400 MILES OVER THE WARRANTY LIMIT. THEN I REALIZED THAT I WASN'T THE ONLY ONE WHO WAS GOING THROUGH THIS. THERE ARE MANY OTHER COMPLAINTS OF THE EXACT THING THAT HAPPENED TO ME. I WAS LUCKY THAT I DIDN'T GET INTO AN ACCIDENT AND THERE WASN'T AS MUCH TRAFFIC AS THERE USUALLY IS ON THE FREEWAY THAT DAY AND I WAS ABLE TO HURRY OFF WITHOUT THE CAR STOPPING IN THE MIDDLE OF THE FREEWAY.
MY MOM WAS LEAVING THE GROCERY STORE AND THE CAR CUT OFF WHILE SHE WAS DRIVING OUT OF THE PARKING LOT. IT SLOWED DOWN BEFORE IT CUT OFF. WHILE WAITING FOR AAA SOMEONE OFFERED TO JUMP THE CAR. IT STARTED, BUT THE BRAKE AND LIGHTS CAME ON. SHE DROVE TO THE DEALERSHIP, ABOUT 3 MILES AWAY. THE CAR CUT OFF IN THE PARKING LOT. IT REMAINS AT THE DEALER, AWAITING REPAIR.
THE FIRST TIME OCCURED IN OCT. OF 2004, WHEN I WAS DRIVING IN TOWN, THANKFULLY, AND LOST ALL OF MY POWER. I WAS ONLY DRIVING ABOUT 30 MPH. MY CAR HAD TO BE TOWED, AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED. THEN, ON JUNE10, 2005, I WAS TRAVELING ON THE HIGHWAY, AT NIGHT ABOUT 55 MPH, AND AGAIN LOST ALL POWER. I AGAIN HAD TO BE TOWED, AND THE ALTERNATOR WAS REPLACED AGAIN, BUT THIS TIME, MY BATTERY ALSO HAD TO BE REPLACED, WHICH WE HAD TO PAY HALF THE PRICE. THIS CAR IS ONLY 2 YEARS OLD AND HAS HAD 2 ALTERNATORS, AND NISSAN OF NORTH AMERICA SAYS THERE IS ' NO PROBLEM' WITH THIS CAR OR MODEL. I CONSIDER THIS TO BE A MAJOR SAFETY PROBLEM, IF SOMEONE HAD BEEN BEHIND ME, OR IF I COULD NOT HAVE STEERED OFF THE ROAD.
AT 22,695 MILES. LOSS OF POWER, DECREASED GAS MILEAGE, BATTERY AND ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON. CAR WAS DRIVABLE TO DEALER. NISSAN REPLACED WITH REBUILT ALTERNATOR.
1) MY WIFE WAS DRIVING THE CAR TO WORK AND THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT CAME ON. I TOLD HER THAT I THOUGHT IT WAS PROBABLY DUE TO LOW BRAKE FLUID AND THAT I'D CHECK IT WHEN SHE GOT HOME IN THE EVENING. 2) ON HER WAY HOME FROM WORK, THE CAR SUDDENLY DIES IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSTATE (I495) DURING RUSH HOUR. THIS IS PROBABLY THE MOST DANGEROUS TIME ON THE INTERSTATE DUE TO THE GREAT VOLUME OF TRAFFIC TRAVELING AT VERY HIGH SPEED. FORTUNATELY, SHE WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WITHOUT BEING REAR ENDED. THE CAR HAD TO BE TOWED BACK TO OUR HOUSE. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND CAME ACROSS A NISSAN MURANO FORUM WHICH HAD A DETAIL DESCIPTION OF THIS PARTICULAR PROBLEM. IF I HAD RECEIVED SOME TYPE ON NOTIFICATION ON THIS PROBLEM, I WOULD NOT HAVE PUT MY WIFE LIFE IN JEOPARDY BY ADVISING HER TO TAKE THE CAR HOME. 3) I WILL BE CONTACTING THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIRS.
ALTERNATOR IN 2003 NISSAN MURANO FAILED AFTER 23,237 MILES. LOSS OF POWER IN THE VEHICLE.
ALTENATOR DIED TWICE WITHIN 70K MILES. FIRST AROUND 32K SECOND AROUND 69K.
AT 27,780 MILES ON MY 2003 NISSAN MURANO I TURNED THE CAR ON AND THE BRAKE AND BATTERY LIGHTS BOTH STAYED ON. LOOKED THROUGH THE BOOK, NO INDICATOR AS TO WHAT IT WAS, CALLED TACOMA NISSAN AND THEY SAID TO BRING IT IN TUESDAY MORNING. DROVE IT HOME FROM WORK. IT SAT IN THE GARAGE FOR 5 HOURS, DROVE IT TO SCHOOL, IT SAT FOR 3 HOURS, DROVE HOME THEN RIGHT BACK TO SCHOOL, CAR SAT FOR ANOTHER 3 HOURS, DROVE TO TACO BELL <1MILE AWAY. AS I WENT TO PULL OUT OF THE TACO BELL ONTO THE BUSY STREET, I PRESSED THE ACCELERATOR AND THERE WAS NO RESPONSE IN THE CAR. I HIT THE BRAKES AND STAYED ON THE SIDE STREET. I PUT THE CAR IN AND OUT OF DIFFERENT GEARS, THINKING THE GEAR BOX HAD FAILED. NO RESPONCE. PULLED THE CAR OVER AND TURNED IT OFF. STARTED IT UP AGAIN AND STILL NO RESPONSE WHILE IN GEAR. TURNED IT OFF AGAIN AND ATTEMPTED TO RESTART IT. CLICKING. DEAD ALTERNATOR. MURANO WAS TOWED TO TACOMA NISSAN WHERE IT SITS NOW AS THEY REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR.*AK
1-THE CAR AT 4000 MILES LOST POWER ON THE ROAD AND COMPLETLY DIED, THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER AND THE ACTION TAKEN WAS TO REPLACE THE ALTERNATOR 2- DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE CAR WAS FAILING TO ACCELERATE, I TURNED OFF THE AIR AND MADE IT TO THE DEALE, REORTED IT, THE DEALER TOOK NO ACTION BUT COMPLIED WITH A BULLETIN THAT WAS OUT, THIS WAS AT 18,000 3- AT 22500MILES THE CAR WAS EXPIRIENCING THE SAME ACCELERATION PROBLEM, I AGIAN TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER AND REPORTED THIS TO THEM SINCE THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT WAS ON, THE DEALER REPORTED THAT THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM 4- AT 24800 MILES APRIL 22ND THE CAR AGAIN LOST COMPLETE POWER IN THE MIDDLE OF THE ROAD AS I WAS CHANGING LANES AND IT STALLED, WHICH ALMOST CAUSED AN ACCIDENT, THE CAR WAS MOVED AND IT WAS TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALER, WERE THEY CALLED ME ON THE 23RD AND INFORMED ME THAT IT WAS AN ALTERNATOR PROBLEM AND THAT IT NEEDED TO BE REPLACED, THE SERVICE MANAGER RAUL FERNANDEZ, FINALLY CALLED ME BACK AFTER A FEW ATTEMPS TO REACH A MANAGER AT BILL SIDELS NISSAN AND INFORMED ME THAT THIS WAS A REGULAR PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN MURANO THAT THEY GET 4-5 CARS A DAY WITH THE SAME PROBLEM AND ALSO THAT THERE WAS NO ALTERNATORS IN STOCK SO IT WOULD PROBABLY BE A FEW MORE DAYS, HE ALSO INFORMED ME THAT THE FACTORY CAN'T SEEM TO FIX THE PROBLEM SINCE THE 2005 MODELS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM . I AM VERY AFRAID THAT THIS CAN CAUSE AN ACCIDENT AND LIVES COULD BE LOST.
AT ABOUT 36,600 MILES, THE BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT BOTH CAME ON. AFTER TAPPING THE EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHTLY SEVERAL TIMES, BOTH LIGHTS WENT OFF. HOWEVER, 100 MILES LATER, BOTH LIGHTS CAME ON AGAIN. AT 36,835 MILES, WHILE DRIVING 55 MPH AT NIGHT TO DULLES AIRPORT, THE VEHICLE BECAME SLUGGISH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL BECAME UNRESPONSIVE, DASH LIGHTS DIMMED, AND THE VEHICLE COASTED AND STALLED, ALL WITHIN ABOUT 700 METERS, AFTER WHICH IT WOULDN'T START. WE GOT AAA PLUS TOWING THE 70 MILES BACK HOME, AND DROVE OUR '95 MAXIMA BACK DOWN! PURCHASED THIS 2003 SL VEHICLE IN ALTOONA PA, COURTESY MOTORS. WE ARE TAKING IT TO BRENNER NISSAN, LOCATED IN MECHANICSBURG, PA. THEY HAVE A GOOD REPUTATION LOCALLY AND WE'LL REPORT ON THE OUTCOME! -UPDATE- 0800: ARRIVED AT BRENNER NISSAN. JIM, ED AND TROY GREET. TROY CHECKS SOMETHING IN THE BACK, ED CHECKS PARTS AVAILABILITY. COFFEE'S GOOD. 0830: ENTERPRISE RENTAL VEHICLE ARRIVES AT THE DEALER! 1548: JIM CALLS, MURANO'S READY -- WE'D DECIDED TO CATCH UP ON THE 30,000 MI. MAJOR SERVICE TODAY, AND IT TURNS OUT NISSAN GOODWILL COVERED THE ALTERNATOR AND RENTAL CAR 100%. SERVICE COST $488.60 INCL. TAX.
ALTERNATOR FAILED. THE VECHICLE'S BATTERY LIGHT WENT ON AND WITHIN 15 MINUTES THE CAR WOULD NOT MOVE. THE CAR WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHERE THE CAR WAS PURCHASED.
MY ALTERNATOR HAS FAILED TWICE. THE FIRST TIME WAS UNDER WARRANTY THIS TIME IT FAILED IN MY DRIVEWAY. DEALER REPLACED, NOT UNDER WARRANTY
ALTERNATOR FAILURE NISSAN MURANO MINE IS 2003 SL SUNLIT COPPER PURCHASED 1/2003 NOW HAS 42000 MILES. BATTERY AND BRAKE LIGHT ON. NISSAN CUSTOMER SERVICE REFUSED TO ACKNOWLEDGE THAT THERE IS A PROBLEM WITH PREMATURE FAILURE OF THE ALTERNATOR.SAY I AM SOL AS I HAVE EXCEEDED THE WARRANTY MILEAGE EVEN THOUGH THE VEHICLE IS TWO YEARS OLD. I WILL BE POSTING THIS PROBLEM ALL OVER THE INTERNET AND CONTACTING THE LOCAL TELEVISION STATION AS THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AS THE CAR DIES AND IS NOT DRIVE ABLE. ON THE NISSANMURANO.ORG FORUM A POLL SHOWS THAT 93 OUT OF 203 RESPONDENTS HAVE HAD ALTERNATOR FAILURES A 46% FAILURE RATE. MINE LEFT ME DEAD IN AN INTERSECTION WITH ENGINE ONLY ABLE TO IDLE WHILE IN DRIVE NO THROTTLE RESPONSE WHILE IN DRIVE BUT THROTTLE RESPONDED WHEN IN PARK. I FEARED FOR MY LIFE AS I WAS BARELY ABLE TO GET OUT OF THE WAY OF ONCOMING TRAFFIC. MY CAR HAS BEEN PARKED FOR OVER 2 WEEKS AS THE ONLY AVAILABILITY FOR THE ALTERNATOR IS FROM NISSAN. ONLY OTHER PROBLEM WITH THE CAR HAS BEEN GETTING LOCKED OUT MORE THAN ONCE. AGAIN NISSAN WILL NOT ACKNOWLEDGE A PROBLEM EVEN THOUGH I BROUGHT THIS TO THEIR ATTENTION AT ABOUT 2000 MILES.
I HAVE A 2003 NISSAN MURANO, THE ALTERNATOR FAILED AT 36,000 MILES, WHICH WILL COST ABOUT $900 TO FIX - INCLUDING THE TOW AND RECOMMENDED NEW BATTERY - SEEMS VERY HIGH TO ME. ACCORDING TO FRESHALLOY.COM, THIS IS A COMMON OCCURRENCE WITH THESE CARS.
PARKING BRAKE LIGHT AND BATTERY LIGHT LIT DURING DRIVING. DRIVING THE VERY NEXT DAY THE CAR'S TRANSMISSION FAILED IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION BUT CAR REMAINED RUNNING. WITHIN 10 MINUTES THE CAR FAILED COMPLETELY. BOTH TIMES THE CAR WAS IN AN INTERSECTION AND NEARLY STRUCK BY OTHER TRAFFIC.
