I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO UNLOCK MY RIGHT SIDE DOORS AND TRUNK FOR QUITE SOME TIME. TOOK IT INTO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP AND THEY ADVISED ME THAT IT IS DUE TO THE DOOR LOCK ACTUATORS. THEY QUOTED ME A RIDICULOUS AMOUNT OF $1500 TO FIX. I LOOKED ONLINE AND FOUND THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY ONE WITH THIS PROBLEM AND ALSO SIGNED A PETITION TO HAVE NISSAN ISSUE A RECALL. *TR
THE FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR LOCK ACTUATOR IS MALFUNCTIONING. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE PARKED, THE DRIVER ATTEMPTED TO OPEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR USING THE ELECTRONIC DOOR LOCK BUT THE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN. THE DOOR WOULD ONLY OPEN MANUALLY. THE CONTACT REPLACED THE BATTERY ON THE KEY FOB, BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR A DIAGNOSTIC TEST. THE DEALER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT BELIEVED THAT THE ACTUATOR WOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 67,000. ALL DOOR LOCKS DO NOT FUNCTION WITH THE FOB OR THE INTERNAL DOOR LOCK BUTTON. MUST MANUALLY LOCK/UNLOCK ALL DOORS. CONDITION WORSENS IN WARM WEATHER.THIS IS A SERIOS SAFETY HAZARD - I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN AND IN AN EMERGENCY I WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO GET THEM INTO OR OUT OF THE VEHICLE QUICKLY. NISSAN WON'T EVEN ESCALATE MY CONCERN UNTIL I PAY TO HAVE ONE OF THEIR DEALERSHIPS LOOK AT IT, BUT I KNOW FROM READING OTHER POSTS THAT ONCE I DO THEY WILL STILL REFUSE TO FIX IT. *TR
2005 NISSAN MURANO HAS FAULTY ELECTRONIC LOCKS. VIEWED AS A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT PREVENTS THE ABILITY TO GET IN AND/OR OUT IN A QUICK AND EFFICIENT MANNER SHOULD THERE BE AN EMERGENCY. THE DOOR WILL NOT UNLOCK/LOCK USING THE ELECTRONIC DEVICES OR BUTTONS AND IN ORDER TO UNLOCK THE DOOR YOU HAVE TO OPEN ANOTHER DOOR AND REACH OVER AND MANUALLY UNLOCK. I HAVE SIGNIFICANT CONCERNS RELATED TO MY AND MY FAMILY'S SAFETY IN THE VEHICLE. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. 2005 NISSAN MURANO. CONSUMER STATES SAFETY PROBLEMS WITH VEHICLE DOOR LOCKS *TGW THE CONSUMER STATED THE DRIVER SIDE FRONT DOOR LOCK WORKED INTERMITTENTLY. WHEN THE LOCK SYSTEM WAS ACTIVATED ELECTRONICALLY, THE DOORS TYPICALLY FAILED TO COMPLETELY LOCK OR UNLOCK COMPLETELY. THE INSIDE LOCK BUTTON ONLY MOVED HALF WAY. *JB
DRIVER SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR FAILED AND REPAIR PARTS ORDERED 8/10/11. IT HAD FAILED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS AND COMPLETELY IN AUGUST, 2011, AND IT BECOMES A SAFETY ISSUE AS IT PREVENTS ACCESS FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE. ACCESS HAS TO BE MADE FROM THE PASSENGER SIDE OR FROM THE REAR DOOR. IT COSTS $431 TO REPAIR. *TR
MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO LOCKS TO ALL FOUR DOORS, TRUNK AND GAS TANK MALFUNCTION FREQUENTLY. I HAVE BEEN STRANDED WITH NO GAS BECAUSE I HAVE BEEN UNABLE TO UNLOCK THE GAS TANK FOR A PERIOD OF TIME. THERE IS NO "KEY" OPENING FOR THE GAS TANK, HATCH IN THE BACK OR 3 PASSENGER DOORS-ONLY THE DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR. I HAVE ALREADY HAD THE ACTUATORS REPLACED ONCE ON BOTH SIDES OF THE CAR A COUPLE OF YEARS AGO AND NOW THEY ARE BROKEN AGAIN. THIS IS A SAFETY CONCERN BECAUSE WE CAN NOT BE SURE THE DOORS ARE LOCKED, CAN NOT OBTAIN GAS, CAN NOT ACCESS THE TRUNK AREA, OR UNLOCK PASSENGER DOORS ON FREQUENT BASIS. SOMETIMES, THEY WORK AND SOMETIMES THEY DON'T. THE COST TO REPLACE THE ACTUATORS IS AROUND $1600. THAT IS A SIGNIFICANT AMOUNT OF MONEY TO BURDEN THE OWNER OF THE VEHICLE WHEN CLEARLY THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE CAR. THERE ARE SO MANY MURANO OWNERS WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. VEHICLE LOCKING MECHANISMS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I PURCHASED MY MURANO BRAND NEW AND EVEN THEN IT HAD A PROBLEM WITH THE GAS TANK COVER OPERATION. IT WOULD WORK BACKWARDS: WHEN YOU LOCK THE VEHICLE IT WOULD OPEN AND VICE VERSA. THEN THE BACK LOCKS STOPPED FUNCTIONING IN CONJUNCTION WITH THE KEY FOB AND THE DRIVER'S CONTROL. LATER IT BECAME AN INTERMITTENT PROBLEM. NOW BOTH OF THE REAR DOOR LOCKS CAN ONLY BE CONTROLLED MANUALLY. THE PASSENGER DOOR HAS STARTED TO DO THE SAME. I'VE ALSO BEEN LOCKED OUT OF MY TRUNK. I BOUGHT GROCERIES AND WAS UNABLE TO OPEN THE TRUNK FROM THE OUTSIDE AND THERE IS NO CONTROL ON THE INSIDE TO OPEN IT EITHER. IN ORDER TO USE THE DOORS AND THEIR LOCKS ACCESS HAS TO BE GAINED FROM OTHER DOORS. IF THE TRUNK LOCKS ITSELF IT BECOMES USELESS AS I CANNOT ACCESS IT. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN THAT I NEED TO BE ABLE TO OPEN AND CLOSE MY TRUNK IF NEEDED. WHEN THE PROBLEM INITIALLY OCCURRED I WAS UNAWARE AS THERE ARE NO INDICATIONS. I DIDN'T KNOW UNTIL MY YOUNG SON WHO RIDES IN THE BACK SEAT COULD NOT OPEN THE DOOR WHEN I UNLOCKED IT. I HAVE HAD PERSONAL ITEMS STOLEN FROM MY VEHICLE THAT I ASSUMED WAS LOCKED USING THE KEY FOB. STRANGERS CAN ACCESS VEHICLES AND OWNERS WILL BE UNAWARE. THIS IS A SCARY THOUGHT. *TR
DOOR LOCKS ON 2005 NISSAN MURANO DON'T ALWAYS OPEN. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE IN CASE OF EMERGENCY THAT YOU HAVE TO GET OUT THE CAR. *LN
THE LOCKS ON MY 2005 NISSAN MURANO HAVE STARTED TO NOT WORK UNLESS MANUALLY OPERATED. FIRST, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE DOOR WOULD NOT OPEN OR CLOSE WITH EITHER THE BUTTON OR KEY FOB, ONLY MANUALLY, AND THEN IT WAS STIFF. THIS WENT ON FOR SEVERAL MONTHS AND THEN THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR ALSO BEGAN TO FAIL, ONLY OPERATING MANUALLY. SHORTLY THEREAFTER THE REAR HATCH/TRUNK DOOR ALSO INTERMITTENTLY FAILS TO OPEN, THOUGH WITH THE REAR DOOR, THERE IS NO MANUAL OPEN. THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP INSPECTED IT AND INSISTS THAT THE DOOR ACTUATORS NEED TO BE REPLACED ON ALL AFFECTED DOORS, WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE. AND UPON DOING ONLINE RESEARCH, THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM ON MURANO'S AND OTHER NISSAN VEHICLES. THE LOCK PROBLEM PRESENTS A POTENTIAL SAFETY HAZARD OF NOT BEING ABLE TO OPEN DOORS IN A TIMELY MANNER IN CASE OF FIRE, AND ALSO IN RETRIEVING INFANTS AND CHILDREN FROM THE CAR, WHICH I DO ON A DAILY BASIS. IN ADDITION, IF MORE DOOR LOCKS WERE TO FREEZE UP, THERE IS ONLY ONE MANUAL KEY ENTRY INTO THE CAR. *TR
2005 NISSAN MURANO - MECHANISMS CONTROLLING THE DOORS DO NOT FUNCTION PROPERLY. I CANNOT EVEN OPEN THE DOOR MANUALLY, IT DOES NOT WORK. THE TRUNK IS ALSO BROKEN, I CANNOT OPEN THIS EITHER. THIS IS DEFINITELY A SAFETY ISSUE. IF I HAVE A FLAT TIRE, I CANNOT GET TO THE SPARE TIRE BECAUSE I CANNOT OPEN THE TRUNK. MY BROTHER HAS THE SAME CAR AND MODEL/YEAR, HIS CAR LOCKS HAS THE SAME PROBLEM. MY COWORKER HAS A 2004 AND HER LOCKS DOES NOT WORK EITHER. I WAS INFORMED BY MY MECHANIC THAT NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS BUT WILL NOT ADDRESS THE ISSUE. OFTEN TIMES, THE DOOR FAILURES HAPPEN AFTER THE WARRANTY EXPIRES; THEREFORE THE OWNERS HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET FOR THE EXPENSES. *TR
2005 NISSAN MURANO. FRONT DRIVER SIDE DOOR WILL NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH KEYLESS ENTRY, OUTSIDE ELECTRONIC DOOR BUTTON, OR MOST IMPORTANTLY, THE MANUAL LOCK INSIDE THE CAR. ONLY WAY TO LOCK DOOR IS WITH KEY. SO TO LOCK DOOR ONCE IN CAR, MUST OPEN WINDOW, AWKWARDLY INSERT KEY INTO OUTSIDE DOOR KEYHOLE WHILE INSIDE CAR, AND THEN TWIST KEY. IN CASE OF ACCIDENT OR EMERGENCY, CANNOT UNLOCK THE FRONT DOOR DRIVER SIDE WITHOUT USING KEY FROM THE INSIDE, WHICH MAY BE IMPOSSIBLE DEPENDING ON CONDITIONS OF EMERGENCY OR ACCIDENT. ACCORDING TO MANY HUNDREDS OF COMPLAINTS ON INTERNET, DEALERS WANT FROM $500 TO $600 TO REPAIR EVEN TO FIX THE MANUAL LOCKING PROCESS FOR THE DOOR. THIS AMOUNT IS PROHIBITIVE FORM MANY PEOPLE FOR WHAT SHOULD BE A SIMPLE FIX OF LESS THAN A HUNDRED DOLLARS FOR AT LEAST THE MANUAL LOCKING PROCESS. THE ELECTRONIC LOCKING SYSTEM IS A LUXURY ITEM, BUT THE MANUAL LOCKING SYSTEM IS BEING HELD HOSTAGE BY THE DEALERS AND IN MY OPINION, PRESENTS A HUGE SAFETY PROBLEM. *TR
LOCK ON DRIVER SIDE DOOR FAILED AND DOES NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK PROPERLY. MAKES THIS UNSAFE AT NIGHT AS I WORK A NIGHT JOB AND IF THE CAR DID NOT LOCK PROPERLY COULD BE SAFETY ISSUE, ALSO GETTING INTO THE CAR AS THE MURANO IS DESIGNED TO BE KEYLESS, IN A HURRY TO TAKE THE KEY OFF THE KEY FOB IS TIME CONSUMING AND IN A PANIC USAGE. LOCKS JUST STOPPED WORKING AFTER HAD BEEN WORKING FINE. I FEEL THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND NISSAN SHOULD REPAIR FREE OF CHARGE, AS MANY OTHER PEOPLE HAVE HAD SAME ISSUE, I HAVE NEVER HEARD OF SO MANY OF SAME COMPLAINTS FROM OTHER CAR MAKERS. *TR
DRIVERS SIDE DOOR ACTUATOR HAS FAILED ON 2005 MURANO. YOU NEVER KNOW WHETHER THE DOOR HAS ACTUALLY LOCKED OR NOT WHEN LOCKING THE VEHICLE USING THE REMOTE OR EXTERIOR ELECTRICAL DOOR BUTTON UPON LEAVING IT. IF INSIDE THE VEHICLE, AND DOORS ARE LOCKED USING THE ELECTRICAL BUTTON ON THE DRIVER SIDE DOOR, DRIVERS SIDE DOOR MAY OR MAY NOT LOCK. THIS IS A SERIOUS SAFETY PROBLEM IF THERE IS A THREAT FROM A PERSON OUTSIDE THE VEHICLE. IT IS ALSO LEAVES THE VEHICLE VULNERABLE TO THEFT WHILE AWAY FROM THE VEHICLE. DEALER WOULD NOT COVER UNDER WARRANTY OR EXTENDED WARRANTY, WANTS EXCESSIVE CHARGE TO REPAIR. *TR
MY MURANO POWER DOOR ACTUATORS IN PASSENGER FRONT DOOR AND TRUNK MALFUNCTIONED DURING WARRANTY PERIOD AND NEEDED TO REPLACE. AFTER WARRANTY THREE REMAINING DOOR ACTUATORS ARE HAVING CONSTANT PROBLEMS NOT LOCKING / UNLOCKING. NISSAN KNOWING THERE IS A SECURITY PROBLEM WITH THEIR LOCKING MECHANISM AND NOT RECALLING THEM FOR SAFETY CONCERN IS NEGLIGENT. IT'S AN OPEN DOOR TO A LAWSUIT IF SOMEONE WERE TO BE MURDERED DUE TO A DOOR THAT DIDN'T LOCK, ALTHOUGH THE DRIVER PUSHED THE LOCK BUTTON AND HEARD THE LOCKING NOISE. REMEMBER, IN THIS CASE THERE'S NO OBVIOUS INDICATION THE DOOR ISN'T LOCKED UNLESS SOMEONE WALKS UP AND OPENS IT FROM THE OUTSIDE. THE DRIVE "THINKS" THE DOOR IS LOCKED, WHEN IN REALITY IT'S AN "OPEN DOOR" FOR CARJACKING OR ROBBERY. THIS FAILURE IS AN INTERMITTENT OF OPERATION. SOMETIMES THE DOORS LOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN ADDITION, SOMETIMES THE DOORS UNLOCK OK, OTHER TIMES THEY DON'T. IN EMERGENCIES IT'S IMPORTANT TO BE ABLE TO UNLOCK DOORS QUICKLY. SINCE 99% OF THE TIME WE ALL USE THE BUTTON TO LOCK AND UNLOCK DOORS, USING THE MANUAL LOCKING LEVER IS UNFAMILIAR. AND THE MURANO'S DESIGN IS SUCH THAT IT'S NOT EASY TO COMPREHEND IF IT'S NOT YOUR CAR, FOR INSTANCE A RENTAL CAR. I CAN EASILY UNDERSTAND HOW SOME PEOPLE WOULD BE CONFUSED HOW UNLOCK A DOOR USING THE MANUAL LEVEL IN AN EMERGENCY WHEN THEY VIRTUALLY HAVE NO EXPERIENCE WITH IT. IN EMERGENCIES EVERY SECOND COUNTS. THE LOCKING/UNLOCKING SOLENOID MALFUNCTIONING IS CLEARLY A HIGH RISK IN EMERGENCY SCENARIOS. SOME PEOPLE WHO CANNOT AFFORD THE $1600 TO HAVE ALL THE SOLENOIDS REPLACED (AS QUOTED BY DEALERS) WILL FORGO GETTING THEM FIXED, PUTTING THEIR FAMILY MEMBERS AT RISK WITH THE ABOVE MISHAP EXAMPLES. THIS SHOULDN'T BE, NISSAN SHOULD RECALL THEM. *TR
DOOR LOCKS DOES NOT WORK AS INTENDED HAVING A SECURE ENVIRONMENT IS PARAMOUNT IN CERTAIN NEIGHBORHOODS. WHEN LOCKING THE DOORS IT'S IMPERATIVE NOBODY CAN GAIN ACCESS AT WILL BY WALKING UP TO THE CAR. IF ANYONE CAN SIMPLY OPEN THE DOOR TO GAIN ACCESS, CARJACKING, INJURY, OR EVEN MURDER IS EASIER. IF THE DOORS LOCKED PROPERLY THIS PROVIDES A MORE SECURE ENVIRONMENT FOR THIS TYPE OF SCENARIO. 2. I'M HAVING PROBLEMS WITH THE ELECTRIC DOOR LOCKS ON 2005 NISSAN MURANO. THREE LOCKS SOMETIMES WORK,BUT MOST OF THE TIME THEY DON'T. I'M CONCERNED THAT IF THERE IS AN EMERGENCY SOMEONE IS GOING TO GET HURT BECAUSE THE LOCK WILL NOT WORK. I HAVE A NISSAN MURANO 2005 I NOTICED 9-13-2010 MY BACK PASSENGER DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK OR UNLOCK WITH THE INSIDE SWITCH OR WITH THE REMOTE I WENT TO THE NISSAN STORE THEY WANTED TO CHARGE ME $115.00 JUST TO CHECK IT OUT I REFUSED I WENT TO ADVANCE AUTO PARTS STORE AND AUTO ZONE THEY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT WHY JUST THOSE TWO DOORS ARE ACTING THIS WAY I DON'T HAVE MONEY TO JUST GIVE SOMEONE TO CHECK THE PROBLEM I NEED TO KNOW THE PROBLEM. 2005 NISSAN MURANO: FOUR OF SIX LOCK ACTUATORS ARE FAILING SIMULTANEOUSLY - THE PASSENGER FRONT DOOR, BOTH REAR DOORS AND THE REAR CARGO HATCH. FAILURE WERE INTERMITTENT UNTIL 5/9/10 WHEN ALL FAILED COMPLETELY AT THE SAME TIME. YOU CAN PRESS THE LOCK/UNLOCK SWITCH AND THE DOORS WILL AUDIBLY APPEAR TO LOCK. HOWEVER, THEY MAY OR MAY NOT HAVE PRESENTING A SECURITY HAZARD - CAR JACKING, STOLEN PROPERTY, ETC. NISSAN HAS TOLD MANY OF US OWNERS THE PROBLEM CAN BE FIXED BY REPLACING ALL THE ACTUATORS AT A COST OF $1,600+. I FIND THIS UNACCEPTABLE. THERE ARE JUST TOO MANY STORIES OF THIS SAME FAILURE IN MURANOS AND OTHER NISSAN MODELS THAT IT IS SIMPLY NORMAL WEAR AND TEAR. *TR
