VEHICLE CUTS OFF WHILE DRIVING AND ALSO FROM TIME TO TIME, WILL HESITATE OR REFUSE TO CRANK/START. NOTICED A RECALL IN 2010 FOR ECM, WHICH IS DOCUMENTED TO HAVE BEEN REPAIRED IN 2014. HOWEVER THESE EXACT SAME ISSUES ARE TAKING PLACE WITH THE VEHICLE NOW IN 2020, DOES THIS MEAN THE REPAIR WAS COMPLETED WITH YET ANOTHER FAULTY ECM. THIS VEHICLE PLACES MY FAMILY IN DANGER WHILE DRIVING.

NHTSA RECALL NUMBER: OPENS NEW WINDOW TAKES AWAY FROM VIN LOOKUP SECTION> 10V-517 RECALL DATE: OCTOBER 28, 2010 MANUFACTURER RECALL NUMBER: PC068 SUMMARY: THE INTELLIGENT POWER DISTRIBUTION MODULE (IPDM) ASSEMBLY CONTAINS AN ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) RELAY THAT HAS A DIODE FOR ELECTRICAL CURRENT NOISE REDUCTION. THE ECM RELAY MAY ALLOW SILICON VAPOR TO FORM AND, OVER TIME, THE SILICON EVAPORATES FROM THE DIODE MOLDING WHICH CAUSES SILICON OXIDE TO DEVELOP ON THE ECM RELAY CONTACT DUE TO ARCING. SAFETY RISK: THIS COULD CAUSE ENGINE STALLING INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH. REMEDY: DEALERS WILL REPLACE THE ECM RELAY INSIDE THE IPDM ASSEMBLY.
MY ENGINE STOPS WHILE IN MOTION. I WAS DRIVING ON THE INTERSTATE AT A SPEED OF 60 AND ALL OF A SUDDEN MY TRUCK JUST LOOSES POWER, THE DASHBOARD TURNED OFF AND SPEED STARTED TO LOWER I PUSHED ON THE GAS AND IT WOULDN'T RESPOND. I WAS ABLE TO STEER TO THE SHOULDER, MY EMERGENCY LIGHTS WOULDN'T EVEN TURN ON. AS I WAS CALLING MY HUSBAND ALL OF A SUDDEN IT TURNED ON ON IT'S ON. IT WAS A HORRIBLE EXPERIENCE. THERE WAS A RECALL THEY FIX BACK ON 2011 DEALING WITH THE ECM RELAY. I CALLED VIVA NISSAN ON ZARAGOZA LOCATED IN EL PASO, TX AND THE GIRL WOULDN'T HELP SHE TOLD ME TO CALL 1800NISSAN1.
NOT SURE IF THIS IS THE RIGHT CHOICE BUT I AM FILING A COMPLAINT ABOUT MY RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION W FLUIDS MIXING THIS VEHICLE HAS HAD DO MANY ISSUES I HAVE SPENT A FORTUNE WHICH I DO NOT HAVE. ON 2-4-2017 MY TIMING CHAIN SYSTEM BEGAN MAKING A LOUD RADDLING NOISE
THE VEHICLE WAS MAKING A HIGH-PITCHED NOISE DURING ACCELERATION @ APPRX. 2000 RPMS. ADDITIONALLY, I HAD RECENTLY NOTICED SLUGGISH AND UNEVEN ACCELERATION. UPON TAKING IT TO THE DEALER, I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS A PROBLEM WITH THE INNER TIMING CHAIN AND TENSION GUIDE/SHOE, A WORN DRIVE BELT AND DRIVE BELT TENSIONER, AND A STUCK FAN BELT CLUTCH. IN ADDITION, I WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS ALSO POTENTIAL DAMAGE TO THE INNER TIMING COVER. NISSAN IS AWARE THAT THERE IS A DEFECT WITH THE TIMING CHAIN AND TENSION GUIDE/SHOE. THE DEFECT COULD CAUSE THE TIMING CHAINS TO SLIP - WHICH WOULD LEAD TO IMMEDIATE ENGINE DAMAGE - AND CREATE A POTENTIALLY DANGEROUS SITUATION IN TRAFFIC. IN ADDITION, THE FAULTY PART COULD CAUSE OTHER ENGINE ISSUES (LIKE THE ONES REPORTED).
TAKATA RECALL IM WRITTING THIS COMPLAINT IN REGARDS TO MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER SE. ON 10/2/2017 MY VEHICLE GAVE ME SOME ISSUES OF NOT WANTING TO TURN ON. AFTER TALKING TO SEVERAL MECHANICS AND ALL GIVING ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS AND ADVISING ME TO TAKE IT TO TOWN NORTH NISSAN IN AUSTIN TEXAS. THE SERVICE AGENT ([XXX]) ALSO GAVE ME THE SAME DIAGNOSIS (THE MODULE IPDM) NEEDED TO GET CHANGED. THEY GAVE ME A PRICE ON THE COST AND TOLD ME THE DATE MY TRUCK WOULD BE READY FOR PICK UP. MY TRUCK WAS IN THEIR SHOP SINCE 10/25/2017 AND THEY TOLD MY MY CAR WOULD BE READY 10/31/2017 AFTER 12:30 PM. SO I CALLED TO GET AN UPDATE SO I COULD PICK UP MY TRUCK. AFTER ALL THIS TIME ([XXX]) TOLD ME THAT MY TRUCK ACTUALLY NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. THAT THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THE RADIATOR MIXED TOTALLY RUINING MY ENGINE. AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ($5,900) TO FIX IT. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND CAME ACROSS AND ARTICLE THAT SAYS THAT THE NCCC HAS RECEIVED SEVERAL COMPLAINTS IN REGARDS TO THE SAME ISSUE WITH THE SAME VEHICLE I HAVE. I TOOK MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER INTO THE SHOP BECAUSE IT WAS HAVING TROUBLE SHIFTING GEARS AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS. I LATER LEARNED THE BAD NEWS THAT THE HOSES IN THE RADIATOR HAVE FAILED CAUSING COOLANT TO CROSS CONTAMINATE AND MIX WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID PRODUCING A TOXIC SLUDGE THAT RUINS THE RADIATOR AS WELL AS THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS TOLD THAT $4,000 LATER I WOULD NEED A NEW RADIATOR, NEW TRANSMISSION AND NEW HOSES. THE SERVICE TECHNICIAN ALSO TOLD ME THAT THIS PROBLEM IS VERY COMMON IN 05-06 PATHFINDERS. AFTER GOING HOME A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH REVEALED THAT TENS OF THOUSANDS OF CARS HAVE ACTUALLY DEALTH WITH THIS PROBLEM AND THERE WAS A LAWSUIT BROUGHT AGAINST NISSAN FOR THESE PROBLEMS. UNFORTUNATELY I NEVER KNEW OF SUCH A LAWSUIT AND NOW THAT I HAVE THE VERY PROBLEM IT'S TOO LATE TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. THAT TYPE OF SERVICE BY COMPANIES FOR SELLING FAULTY PRODUCTS TO THEIR CONSUMERS IS REALLY TOO SAD.
I PURCHASED A USED 2005 WITH APPRX 134,000 MILES. I RETURNED THE VEHICLE THE FOLLOWING MONDAY FOR A CRACKED RADIATOR. THE RADIATOR WAS REPLACED. THE VEHICLE CONTINUED TO HAVE SHIFTING ISSUES. 3 WEEKS LATER IT WAS GIVEN A DIAGNOSIS FROM A CERTIFIED NISSAN SERVICE SHOP AS "NEEDING TRANSMISSION REPLACES AS A RESULT OF COOLANT LEAKING INTO THE TRANSMISSION FROM CRACK RADIATOR" I WAS ESTIMATED OVER $7000 WORTH OF REPAIRS BECAUSE OF THE RADIATOR CRACKING AND LEAKING COOLANT.
CAR DIED ON ME THIS MORNING! MECHANIC SAID TRANSMISSION AS WELL AS RADIATOR. PLUS COOLANT AND TRANNY FLUID LEAKED INTO EACH OTHER. SOMETHING THAT LOOKS LIKE LAWSUITS AND MANY OTHERS HAVE COMPLAINED ON. DEALERSHIP WONT FIX IT!
I TAKE MY CAR IN TO NISSIAN REGULARLY AND TAKE VERY GOOD CARE OF IT AND DOESN'T HAVE THAT MANY MILES ON IN FOR HOW LONG I HAVE OWNED IT. I HAVE BEEN THE ONLY OWNER. JUST HAD IT SERVICED IN FEBUARY, ALL WAS PERFECT. IT STARTED MAKING A AWFUL WHEN I G NOISE WHEN YOU STEP ON THE GAS PEDAL, TURNS OUT THE TIMING CHAIN IS OUT AND THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL FOR SOME NISSIAN CARS FOR THIS NOT ALL. I CALLED NISSIAN CORP AND THEY SAID SINCE I HAVE NO WARRANTY THEY WERE NOT GOING TO HELP, EVEN THOUGH YOU GUYS HAVE ISSUED A SAFETY WARNING (NDTB07-042). THERE ALSO IS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT AGAINST NISSIAN FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM. IT SHOULD BE A RECALL FOR ALL NISSIAN. CARS/TRUCKS.
AT 96635 MILES MY OIL LIGHT WAS COMING ON WHEN THE CAR WAS NOT IN MOTION. NISSAN TOLD ME MY CAR NEEDS TO HAVE ITS TIMING CHAIN REPLACED WHICH BTW SUPPOSED TO LAST LIFE OF ENGINE. I'VE READ NISSAN KNEW ABOUT DEFECTIVE PARTS AND WAS NOT HONORABLE IN DOING A RECALL. WHATS THE POINT OF SWITCHING FROM TIMING BELT TO TIMING CHAIN IF I NEED TO CHANGE IT AT THE SAME APPROXIMATE MILEAGE. ITS COSTING ME $3000.00 TO GET IT FIXED.
OIL PRESSURE DROPPED WHILE DRIVING DUE TO TIMING CHAIN TENSIONERS AND GUIDE FAILURE. IF COMPLETE FAILURE HAD ACCURED, MOTOR COULD HAVE BLOWN OR LOCKED UP CAUSING ACCIDENT.
RADIATOR CRACKED AND CONTAMINATED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. I HAD TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR AND FLUSH/REFILL THE TRANSMISSION FLUID.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 145,000.

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 218,000.
COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID MIXED AND CAUSED THE CAR TO SHAKE AND NOT ACCELERATE. THIS WAS A RECALL ITEM AND BY THE TIME IT HAPPENED AT 79K MILES THE DEALER WOULD ONLY COVER HALF. I HAD TO PAY $2500 FOR A REPAIR THAT THEY NEW WAS DEFECTED. I WAS DRIVING ON A MAJOR HIGHWAY AND THE CAR STALLED AND I HAD TO PUT FLASHERS ON TO KEEP CARS FROM HITTING ME. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE FOR ANYONE WHO STILL OWNS THIS TRUCK. I NOW HAVE ANOTHER $750 BILL TO REPAIR THE FUEL SENDING UNIT THAT WENT OUT AFTER RECALL MILEAGE EXPIRED. THEY KNOW IT'S A PROBLEM AND SHOULD FIX IT WHEN IT HAPPENS.
THE VEHICLE STARTED TO MAKE A WHINING NOISE UNDER THROTTLE BUT WAS NOT INITIALLY IDENTIFIED AS A SIGNIFICANT PROBLEM. IT WAS ASSUMED TO BE A BELT OR BELT PULLEY. APPROXIMATELY 2 WEEKS AFTER THE NOISE STARTED, THE TIMING CHAIN DEVELOPED A PROBLEM AND LOUD RATTLING NOISES COULD BE HEARD FROM THE ENGINE. THE SOUND WAS A SLOPPY RATTLE CONSISTENT WITH A TIMING CHAIN TENSIONER OR GUIDE BROKEN.
THIS IS A ENGINE CONTROL MODULE (ECM) ISSUE. MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER IS STALLING AT LOW ENGINE SPEEDS, RED LIGHTS, DURING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 65K MILES AND HAS HAD FOUR (4) ECM REPLACED. MY LAST ONE WENT BAD THREE HOURS AFTER DRIVING OUT OF A NISSAN DEALERSHIP WHERE I SPENT $1300 TO REPLACE IT. ONE MORNING ON THE WAY TO DAYCARE MY 2005 NISSAN PATHFINDER COULD NOT SHIFT ABOVE FIRST GEAR. I DROVE 8-10MPH WITH HAZARD LIGHTS ON TO THE DEALERSHIP, NISSAN OF PORTLAND (122ND AVE). THEY TOLD ME IT HAD CROSS CONTAMINATION DUE TO A "KNOWN FAULTY PART" BUT THAT MY WARRANTY HAD EXPIRED IN DECEMBER. I BOUGHT THE CAR FROM THAT DEALERSHIP 18 MONTHS AGO. THEY DID NOT TELL ME AT THE TIME OF PURCHASE ABOUT THIS DEFECT NOR ABOUT THE WARRANTY, RATHER WAITED UNTIL THEY COULD CHARGE ME $5100.00 TO REPLACE THE TRANSMISSION AND RADIATOR. THIS IS SO WRONG! NISSAN CORPORATE SHOULD BE ASHAMED OF THEMSELVES FOR NOT FIXING THIS FOR FREE WHENEVER IT MANIFESTS ITSELF (OR BEFORE) AND DEALERS CAN NOT BE ALLOWED TO SELL CARS WITHOUT DISCLOSING KNOWN MATERIAL DEFECTS. I WAS DRIVING THE VEHICLE WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN IT SHUT OFF CAUSING CARS BEHIND ME TO SWERVE OFF THE ROAD. I AM A FEMALE THE WHEEL WAS VERY HARD FOR ME TO STEER OFF THE ROAD. I THANK GOD THAT NOTHING HAPPEN TO MY 8 YEAR OLD IN THE CAR. APPARENTLY SOMEONE HAS TO DIE BEFORE THEY DO A RECALL. *JS
THE VEHICLE ENGINE TIMING CHAIN HAD MADE A SLIGHT "WHIRRING" SOUND FOR MANY MONTHS - NOTHING REALLY LOUD ENOUGH TO CAUSE ALARM, BUT NOTICEABLE. THEN WHEN IDLING THE VEHICLE IN MY DRIVEWAY, THE ENGINE BEGAN TO WHINE LOUDLY, AND THEN ALL OF A SUDDEN THE ENGINE LOST POWER AND BEGAN TO EMIT A LOUD SLAPPING/ CLUNKING SOUND. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE TIMING CHAIN HAS FAILED AND THE CHAIN IS SLAPPING AROUND INSIDE OF THE TIMING COVER. I WAS LUCKY THAT THE VEHICLE WAS IDLING IN MY DRIVEWAY AT THE TIME! THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF REPORTED INCIDENTS TO BE FOUND ON THE INTERNET WHERE NISSAN OWNERS HAVE REPORTED THAT TIMING CHAINS HAVE FAILED, AND SOME OWNERS IN CALIFORNIA HAVE FILED A CLASS-ACTION LAWSUIT TO FORCE NISSAN TO ACKNOWLEDGE THIS FACTORY DEFECT. NISSAN KNOWS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM - THERE ARE FACTORY SERVICE BULLETINS TO REPAIR THIS PROBLEM, BUT NO RECALL. THIS ENGINE DEFECT IS DANGEROUS - ENGINE FAILURE ON BUSY NY / NJ / CT HIGHWAYS CAN BE LIFE-THREATENING!! WHY IS THE NISSAN TIMING CHAIN DEFECT NOT DEEMED A MANDATORY FACTORY DEFECT RECALL?? AS A FORMER MECHANIC, I CAN SAY WITH CONFIDENCE THAT MODERN VEHICLE ENGINE TIMING CHAINS CAN BE REASONABLY EXPECTED TO LAST THE LIFE OF THE ENGINE! TIMING CHAINS ARE NOT CONSIDERED A REGULAR MAINTENANCE ITEM! NOT ONLY DOES TIMING CHAIN FAILURE PUT THE VEHICLE PASSENGERS IN EXTREME DANGER, BUT IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO REPAIR.
