TRANSMISSION ON THE PATHFINDER WAS VERY ROUGH SHIFTING FROM 3RD TO 4TH GEAR. WE RETURNED IT TO A DEALER, WHO SAID IT NEEDED A NEW TRANSMISSION. IT SEEMS THAT THIS HAS BEEN A VERY COMMON PROBLEM, AND IT SEEMED THE COMPANY SHOULD HAVE DONE MORE TO REMEDY THE PROBLEM THAN JUST HOPING THE NEWEST EXTENDED WARRANTIES RAN OUT BEFORE THE CARS NEEDED REPAIRS. *TR

WHEN THE CAR REACHES SPEED OF 45 MPH, IT BEGINS TO JERK AND VIBRATE AND A LOUD NOISE STARTS. IF I PRESS THE OVERDRIVE BUTTON TO TURN IT OFF, THE CAR SMOOTHES OUT. I AM A VERY LOYAL NISSAN/PATHFINDER OWNER. I'M ON MY SECOND PATHFINDER AND ALWAYS HAVE MY BELOVED 2007 SERVICED REGULARLY AT THE PUYALLUP NISSAN DEALERSHIP. BECAUSE I RELY ON MY VEHICLE FOR WORK, I MAKE SURE TO KEEP IT CURRENT WITH ALL RECOMMENDED SERVICES OVER THE LIFE OF THE VEHICLE. UNTIL RECENTLY, IVE BEEN AN EXTREMELY SATISFIED PATHFINDER OWNER. NOW, I AM QUITE UPSET THAT A KNOWN DEFECTIVE RADIATOR NOTICE I RECEIVED APPROXIMATELY A YEAR AGO, ADVISED TO DO NOTHING IF EXPERIENCING NO PROBLEMS, BUT NOW THAT I'M OVER THE LIMIT OF 100K MILES (115K), AND EXPERIENCING THE KNOWN RADIATOR DEFECT ISSUE, I AM NOW ON THE HOOK FOR THE ENTIRE REPAIR COST ($5000). DOES NISSAN'S OBLIGATION TO THEIR PRODUCT AND CUSTOMER DISAPPEAR AFTER 100K MILES? WHY DIDN'T NISSAN RECOMMEND REPLACING THE RADIATORS, AS A PREVENTATIVE MEASURE? FURTHER RESEARCH OF TESTIMONIALS FROM OTHER NISSAN OWNERS EXPERIENCING THE SAME ISSUE, SUGGESTS THAT THE RADIATOR PROBLEM SEEMED TO TYPICALLY OCCUR AFTER 100,000 MILES ANYWAYS. SO HOW IS IT THAT NISSAN IS OK WITH LEAVING THEIR CUSTOMER HOLDING ON TO THE (CRUD) END OF THE STICK? I SURE HOPE I AM REIMBURSED FOR THE HEFTY BILL SOME WAY SOME DAY. CHECKED THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND IT WAS WHITE MILKY. HAD IT CHECKED ITS A PROBLEM WITH THE TRANSMISSION COOLER INSIDE THE RADIATOR CRACKING AND LETTING ANTIFREEZE GET INTO TRANSMISSION AND IT DESTROYS IT AND IT'S UP TO $5000 TO FIX AND LOTS OF LOST TIME AND NISSAN ISN'T DOING A THING ABOUT IT. WE STARTED TO HAVE A VERY LOUD AND CREEPING NOISE WHEN WE PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE. SOUNDS LIKE WE WERE PULLING SOMETHING VERY HEAVY AND THE CAR COULD NOT RESIST IT. THEN, WE ALSO STARTED TO NOTICE ISSUES SUCH AS A DELAY IN GEAR CHANGES AND MORE NOISES NOW WHEN DRIVING FORWARD OR IN REVERSE. WE TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALERSHIP TODAY AND THEY DIAGNOSED IT WITH A "BROKEN TRANS COOLER LINE IN RADIATOR WHICH MADE THE COOLANT LEAK AND MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. THEY WANT US TO REPLACE THE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, AND FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK BRINGING THE PRICE CLOSE TO 7K. FOR THE PAST WEEK WHEN EVER I DROVE MY CAR THE ENTIRE VEHICLE SHUDDERS, SHAKES AND HAS A HARSH UPSHIFT WHEN IT IS CHANGING GEARS. IT HAPPENS THE MOST ON HIGHWAYS GOING AT HIGH SPEEDS (55-65 MILES). I TOOK MY CAR INTO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP ON 1-29-14 TO GET IT CHECKED OUT. THE DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED MY CAR WITH A "BROKEN TRANS COOLER LINE IN RADIATOR WHICH MADE THE COOLANT LEAK AND MIXED WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID. ADVISE REPLACE ENTIRE TRANSMISSION, RADIATOR, AND FLUSH ENGINE BLOCK AS WELL AS REPLACE THERMOSTAT, (PRICE TO FIX: $5938.00 + 9% TAX)". I RESEARCHED THIS ISSUE ONLINE AND FOUND THIS TO BE A COMMON DEFECT ISSUE THAT NISSAN HAS BEEN DANCING AROUND SINCE 2007, AS WELL AS A CLASS ACTION LAWSUIT BEING FILED AGAINST NISSAN. I BOUGHT THE CAR ON JULY 28, 2011, SO I HAVE ONLY OWNED THE CAR FOR A LITTLE OVER 2 YEARS IN WHICH THE DEALERSHIP I PURCHASED THE CAR FROM DID NOT INFORM US OF THIS WARRANTY BEING OFFERED BY NISSAN FROM THE LAWSUIT OR INFORMED US OF THE POSSIBLE TRANSMISSION PROBLEM. I HAD THE CAR COMPLETELY CHECKED OUT BY A MECHANIC IN NOVEMBER OF 2013 AND IT PASSED WITH NO ISSUES. NOW HERE WE ARE 2 MONTHS LATER, AND OVER 100,000 MILES AND MY NISSAN EXPERIENCES THIS ISSUE. THIS CAN BE A VERY DETRIMENTAL AND DRAMATIC FAILURE, CAUSING MASSIVE SAFETY ISSUES IF I CONTINUE TO DRIVE MY CAR, ESPECIALLY ON HIGHWAYS GOING HIGH SPEEDS. I CONTACTED NISSAN THIS MORNING TO SEE IF THEY ARE GOING TO STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT AND SINCE I AM ONLY 11,000 MILES OVER THEIR "WARRANTY" (WHICH HAS HIGH DEDUCTIBLES), THEY DENIED TO HELP AND I AM LEFT HOLDING A $6500.00 PRICE TAG TO FIX MY CAR. *TR

CALSONIC RADIATOR ISSUE - TRANSMISSION FLUID AND COOLANT MIXED CAUSING ISSUES WITH TRANSMISSION. BAD TRANSMISSION COOLER AREA PER AAMCO. NISSAN IS UNWILLING TO HELP AS MY VEHICLE HAS 126K MILES ON IT. THESE ISSUES APPEAR TO BE HAPPENING IN A MUCH GREATER % THAN NISSAN IS ACKNOWLEDGING. THEY MOVED THE WARRANTY FROM 3 YRS/36000 MILES TO 8 YEARS/80000 MILES BUT IT STILL DOESN'T HELP THOSE WHOSE RADIATOR LEAKED AFTER THE 100K LEVEL PREMATURELY. THIS IS A SAFETY ISSUE AND ALSO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT ISSUE. IT SEEMS THAT NISSAN CORPORATE, DEALERS, TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND OTHER GOVERNMENTAL ORGANIZATIONS KNEW ABOUT THIS ISSUE - SADLY, MOST CONSUMERS DON'T. I WOULD HAVE GLADLY REPLACED MY RADIATOR FOR $500 BUT NOW I WILL BE OUT $4000 BECAUSE NISSAN DIDN'T TELL THEIR OWNERS ABOUT THIS PROBLEM. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN PATHFINDER. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, THERE WAS AN UNEXPECTED INCREASE IN ACCELERATION FOR SEVERAL SECONDS. IN ADDITION, THE ENGINE RPMS INCREASED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE VEHICLE HAD SPORADICALLY DECELERATED INDEPENDENTLY WITH AN ABNORMAL REDUCTION IN ENGINE RPMS. THE FAILURE RECURRED NUMEROUS TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN AN AUTHORIZED DEALER, WHO STATED THAT THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE DEFECT. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,669.

AFTER A 90K MILE CHECK-UP AND FULL SERVICE IN SPRING 2012, I UNDERSTOOD THAT MY PATHFINDER WAS RUNNING WELL. NEVER WAS THERE A MENTION OF ISSUES WITH THE RADIATOR / TRANSMISSION, NOR WAS THE CONNECTION BETWEEN THESE ELEMENTS REPLACED TO PREVENT AN ISSUE (TO MY KNOWLEDGE.) AT 101K MILES, THE HEAT WENT OUT IN THE REAR SECTION OF THE CAR (I DID NOT REALIZE THIS UNTIL TWO MONTHS HAD GONE BY AND I WAS ARGUING WITH MY FREEZING CHILD IN THE BACK SEAT THAT I HAD HIS HEAT AS HOT AS IT WOULD GO - HE WAS CLEARLY CORRECT AND THE REAR BLOWERS WERE BLASTING HIM WITH ICY AIR.) THERE WAS A "CLUNK" UPON SHIFTING THE CAR INTO REVERSE, AND BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MPH THE TRANSMISSION LAGGED AND SOUNDED LIKE IT WAS GRINDING AND WORKING HARD. AT 106K I BROUGHT THE PATHFINDER TO THE NISSAN DEALER WHERE I HAD ORIGINALLY PURCHASED THE CAR. THIS WAS THE SAME DEALER WHO HAD DONE THE 90K SERVICE, AS WELL. THEY DETERMINED THAT THE RADIATOR FLUID HAD MIXED WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID AND THAT MY CAR NEEDED BOTH A NEW RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION FOR $9,000.00. (MY TRUCK IS MAYBE WORTH $15,000 AT THIS POINT - REALLY?) AFTER DELIBERATING WITH THE SERVICE SUPERVISOR, HE OFFERED AN ALTERNATE OPTION OF ONLY CHANGING THE RADIATOR AND FLUSHING THE TRANSMISSION SEVERAL TIMES TO ELIMINATE THE CONTAMINATED FLUID. I GAVE THE OK FOR THIS SERVICE OPTION AT $600. SINCE THE SERVICE, MY TRANSMISSION IS STILL LAGGING BETWEEN 40 AND 60 MPH AND THE "CLUNK" STILL HAPPENS DURING A SLOW REVERSE. I AM NOW INVESTIGATING MY OPTIONS FOR A NEW TRANSMISSION AS THE VEHICLE IS STILL IN BEAUTIFUL SHAPE, OTHER THAN ITS ENGINE ISSUES. IT IS MY BELIEF THAT THIS ISSUE IS WIDE-SPREAD ENOUGH THAT THE TRANSMISSIONS AND RADIATOR SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED BY NISSAN - OR PAID FOR BY NISSAN SINCE IT'S THEIR FAULTY PARTS THAT CAUSE THE PROBLEM. *TR

WHEN SLOWING DOWN OR SPEEDING UP BETWEEN ABOUT 30-50 MPH, THE VEHICLE TRANSMISSION FELT LIKE IT WAS SLIPPING. AFTER MUCH RESEARCH AND SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS OF WORK COME TO FIND OUT THAT THE RADIATOR IS FAULTY CAUSING CROSS-CONTAMINATION BETWEEN ENGINE COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. I AM AWARE THERE IS AN ONGOING INVESTIGATION INTO THIS MATTER AS WELL AS A CLASS ACTION LAW SUIT PENDING. I HAVE SPENT SIGNIFICANT MONEY TO TROUBLESHOOT AND REPLACE WHAT WAS NEEDED (RADIATOR AND MULTIPLE TRANSMISSION FLUSHES) AND FEEL I SHOULD BE REIMBURSED AS WELL AS HAVE A MORE THOROUGH INSPECTION AND ADDITIONAL REPAIR/REPLACEMENT IF NEEDED. I AM CONCERNED THAT THE ENGINE IS NOW DAMAGED DUE TO TRANSMISSION FLUID BEING IN THERE AND POSSIBLY THE TRANSMISSION. BOTH OF WHICH MAY BE FUTURE PROBLEMS THAT MATERIALIZE DOWN THE ROAD. HE SAID HE HAD SEEN THIS PROBLEM BEFORE MANY TIMES HIS EXACT WORD WERE THE WAY NISSAN DESIGNED THIS PARTICULAR VEHICLE CAUSES THIS. MY MECHANIC HAD TO REPLACE RADIATOR FLUSH THE WHOLE SYSTEM PUT NEW FLUIDS IN TOTAL COST $976.OO HE ADVISED ME TO TAKE IT TO A TRANSMISSION SHOP BECAUSE HE SAID IT NEEDED TO BE LOOKED AT BY A SPECIALIST SINCE HE COULD NOT GUARANTEE IT WOULD NOT HAPPEN AGAIN OR IF EVEN THE TRANSMSSION WOULD WORK. WELL IT WORKED BUT THE SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON ON THE WAY TO THE TRANSMISSION SHOP ONCE THEY GOT DONE WITH IT AND REPLACED EVERYTHIN THAT NEEDED TO BE FIXED ON THE INSIDE OF THE TRANSMISSION I PAID $3227.49. ACCORDING TO EVERYTHING I READ THIS CAN HAPEN TO THE PATHFINDER WITHOUT ANY PRIOR PROBLEMS. WE TOOK PRETTY GOOD CARE OF OURS WAS A GREAT VEHICLE TILL WE HAD TO DISH OUT ALMOST 5K AFTER WE HAD JUST PAID IT OFF. I WILL NEVER BUY NISSAN AGAIN! *TR

PATHFINDER STARTED HESITATING AT 40 MPH REGARDLESS OF CITY OR HIGHWAY DRIVING, HAD TRANSMISSION FLUID CHANGED AND WAS ADVISED BY MY MECHANIC THERE IS A LEAK FROM RADIATOR INTO TRANSMISSION LINE, HAVE SINCE THEN SEEN TRANSMISSION FLUID A MILKY COLOR AND I CANNOT DRIVE VEHICLE WITH OVERDRIVE ON, WHEN IT DROVE WITH OD ON AT ABOUT 40 MPH THERE IS NO SHIFTING OF GEARS. *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 NISSAN PATHFINDER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE VEHICLE BEGAN STALLED WHILE THE CONTACT WAS ATTEMPTING TO ACCELERATE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE VALVE BODY AND RADIATOR NEEDED TO BE REPLACED DUE TO A LEAK IN THE RADIATOR AND THE COOLANT WAS INTERMIXING WITH THE TRANSMISSION FLUID. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN ANY RECALL. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 101,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 104,000.

CAR STARTED SHIFTING VERY ROUGH AND STALLED IN TRAFFIC. VERY DANGEROUS! FOUND OUT FROM NISSAN SERVICE CENTER THERE IS A DEFECT IN THE RADIATOR THAT CAUSES THE COOLANT TO MIX INTO THE TRANSMISSION. BOTH THE RADIATOR AND TRANSMISSION NEED TO BE REPLACED. NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY ON BOTH PARTS TO 80,000 MILES (APPARENTLY NISSAN KNOWS THERE IS A PROBLEM). UNFORTUNATELY, IT AFFECTED MY CAR AT 88,000 MILES. NOW, NISSAN IS REALLY GIVING ME THE RUN-AROUND. MY CAR HAS BEEN IN THE NISSAN SERVICE CENTER FOR 2 DAYS. THEY INFORMED ME TODAY (MAY 11, 2012) THEY WOULD MAKE A DETERMINATION BY MAY 16TH IF THEY WILL "HELP PAY" FOR THE FIX. THE DEFECTIVE RADIATOR SHOULD HAVE BEEN RECALLED! I SHOULD NOT HAVE TO PAY FOR THIS FIX. SOMEONE IS GOING TO BE KILLED OR SERIOUSLY INJURED DUE TO THIS DEFECT!!!! *TR
