While driving the vehicle under normal conditions the transmission will shift itself into 'Neutral'. The unloaded engine will rev-up and the vehicle speed will decrease. 'Drive' must be re-selected on the shifter to resume driving normally. This has occurred a few times in various climates and engine temperatures(cold vs. warmed-up). Primarily taking place at speeds below 40mph. On one occasion, while parked, the transmission shifted to neutral and was stuck for several minutes. After many attempts the transmission was shifted into park and power was cycled. The issue did not come back immediately after power cycle. Replacement of the as-built OEM battery seems to have solved this issue but there was no sign of battery failure leading up to or during the phantom shifting. Battery replaced by owner when it died unexpectedly. Nissan Dealership where vehicle was purchased could not verify or corroborate the fault. According to their database there was no record of this occurring on other 2022 Pathfinders.

I was driving and all of a sudden my car flipped into neutral mid drive. I couldn’t put it in park. I couldn’t put it in drive and I couldn’t put it in reverse. I had to sit on the road with my foot on the pedal until someone could tow it. My kids and were stuck in the dark on dangerous corner of a windy road. This is a serious safety deficit. We are still covered under warranty. We got it home and turned it off. Then we turned the car back on and we were able to put it in gear and park it, but the check engine light stayed on. The next day when I turned it on to take it to the dealership, the check engine light was off. The technician took it for a test drive and it did the same thing to him. The technician can’t figure out what is wrong or why it’s doing what it is doing, but that it is unsafe to drive.

Transmission started slipping when I was getting on the Interstate. It was revving very loud but car would not move. I almost got hit from behind. This car is not even 3 years old. I am very concerned for my safety. I should still be in warranty for this issue.

The contact owns a 2022 Nissan Pathfinder. The contact stated while driving 75 MPH, the vehicle inadvertently decelerated to 30 MPH. Additionally, the transmission intermittently failed to shift to reverse and inadvertently to park(P) while driving at slow speeds. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the dealer was unable to duplicate the failure. The dealer replaced the brakes and the front and rear bumper sensors; however, the failure recurred. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure. The contact filed a Lemon Law claim. The failure mileage was approximately 15,686.

Was merging onto an Interstate. Pressed the gas pedal to accelerate and there was no acceleration. The engine rpm increased to about 4000 but the transmission felt like it went to neutral. Released gas pedal and pressed it again. Once again no acceleration and the rpm’s went to about 4000. It felt like the transmission tried to down-shift but went to neutral instead. On the third try, the transmission downshifted to a lower gear and the vehicle accelerated to highway speeds. This was an unsafe condition because there were cars coming at me at 75 to 80 mph and I was unable to accelerate. There were no warning lights, messages or prior instances to give me warning that this might happen. Vehicle has only about 2500 miles on it. I have not visited the dealer yet to have it inspected.

Feb 2022 Crash

On 6/16/2022 our vehicle did not allow me to pull my boat and trailer up a gravel road hill leaving our RV Park at 31733 Aqua Vita Road, Gravois Mills, MO 65037. a)Front wheels started slipping but the rear wheels never engaged. b)Either the brakes were applied or engine power was derated despite application of the throttle. c)I didn't just continue to slip the front wheels but kept stopping, adjusting the traction selector and then try again until a warning pulled up "AWD Overheat, Stop Vehicle". At least twice during throttle application there was unanticipated rollback of the vehicle. a)This sudden rollback surprised me and by the time I could react, the vehicle rolled back several feet, sliding in the gravel back down the hill. b)This rollback was partially uncontrolled and caused the trailer to back at an angle down the hill. c)The trailer backed into a tree just off the road keeping the trailer, boat, vehicle and 5 occupants from rolling off the side of the road d)If not for the tree there would have been great personal property damage, physical harm to the occupants, possibly even death.
