TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 7 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE READING WAS INACCURATE. THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY. THE VEHICLE WAS COASTED TO A SAFE LOCATION AND REFUELED. IN 2014, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V074000 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER); HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED A SECOND TIME. IN ADDITION, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED WITH A QUARTER TANK OF FUEL, THE READING WOULD DISPLAY LESS AFTER RETURNING TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE OCCURRED INTERMITTENTLY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 55,000.

CERTAIN 2005 NISSAN TITANS WERE RECALLED IN CAMPAIGN #10V074000 DUE TO THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWING THAT THERE WAS FUEL REMAINING WHEN THE TANK WAS ACTUALLY EMPTY. THIS OCCURRED TO MY VEHICLE IN FEBRUARY 2013. THE VEHICLE SHUT DOWN AND I LOST POWER STEERING. I WAS LUCKILY ABLE TO TURN WITH ENOUGH FORCE TO LEAVE THE ROADWAY. AFTER CONTACTING NISSAN, THEY DECLARED MY VEHICLE WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL AND WAS NOT AFFECTED ALTHOUGH I WAS HAVING THE EXACT SAME ISSUE.

AFTER DRIVING FOR 250-300 MILES WITH STOPS FOR FUEL AND FOOD THE ENGINE LOSES POWER AND QUITS. AFTER GETTING OFF THE ROAD AND TURNING OFF THE IGNITION FOR SEVERAL MINUTES THE ENGINE WILL RESTART AND RUN FOR 10 T0 20 MINUTES UNTIL IT QUITS AGAIN. THIS HAPPENS ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAYS AT SPEED OF 70+/- MPH. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING FOR 6 OR 8 MONTHS. THE TRUCK HAS BEEN TO SEVERAL SHOPS AND SEVERAL PARTS HAVE BEEN REPLACED ACCORDING TO THE ECM SERVICE ENGINE CODES. NOTHING HAS SOLVED THE PROBLEM. TOOK THE TRUCK TO NISSAN DEALER FOR HELP. THEY COULD NOT FIND THE PROBLEM AND SAID THEY HAD NO RECORD OF ANY SUCH PROBLEM AND COULD NOT DO ANYTHING UNLESS THEY DROVE THE TRUCK AND HAD THE PROBLEM HAPPEN WHILE THEY WERE DRIVING. I DO NOT KNOW WHAT IS CAUSING THE ENGINE TO QUIT AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND AT THIS POINT NEITHER DOES NISSAN. I BELIEVE THIS LOSE OF POWER IS AS DANGEROUS AS THE GM IGNITION PROBLEM WHICH CAUSED A LOST OF POWER. SINCE I NEED THE TRUCK FOR TRANSPORTATION I CONTINUE TO DRIVE IT BUT TRY TO STAY IN THE RIGHT LANE SO I CAN GET OFF THE ROAD WHEN IT QUITS.

DRIVING TO WORK IN THE MORNING RUSH HOUR TRAFFIC, AT APPROX 65 MPH, I EXPERIENCED MY 2005 NISSAN TITAN SHUT COMPLETELY DOWN LOSING ALL POWER TO THE ENGINE RESULTING IN A LOSS OF POWER TO ALL SUPPORTING ENGINE ACCESSORIES INCLUDING THE POWER STEERING AND ABS. I ATTEMPTED TO RESTART THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING, BY DOWN SHIFTING TO NEUTRAL, WHICH FAILED. FORTUNATELY I WAS ABLE TO FIND A FIND A SPOT TO PULL OVER ON THE SIDE OF THE BUSY HIGHWAY AND CALL FOR ROADSIDE ASSISTANCE. IT WAS LATER DETERMINED THAT I HAD RUN OUT OF FUEL, DESPITE THE FUEL GAUGE SHOWING WELL OVER 1/4 OF A TANK OF USABLE FUEL. AT THIS POINT I DISCOVERED A RECALL CAMPAIGN FOR THE 2005 - 2009 NISSAN TITAN INSTRUMENT PANEL FUEL GAUGE (NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V074000) AND PROCEEDED TO CALL THE PHONE NUMBER LISTED IN THE REMEDY PORTION OF THE RECALL. WHEN SPEAKING WITH NISSAN IT WAS DETERMINED THAT MY VIN WASN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN, AND AN APPOINTMENT WAS MADE AT THE LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP BY NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS TO CONFIRM MY FINDING AND SEE IF THEY WOULD BE ABLE TO COMPLETE THE REPAIR FOR ME UNDER THE RECALL. WHEN I BROUGHT MY VEHICLE TO MY LOCAL NISSAN DEALERSHIP THEY INFORMED ME THAT THE VEHICLE VIN WASN'T APART OF THE RECALL, BUT DID SEE A SERVICE BULLETIN ASSOCIATED WITH THAT MAKE AND MODEL. IT WAS ULTIMATELY DETERMINED THEY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO RECOVER WARRANTY MONEY FROM NISSAN, AND INFORMED ME THAT I WOULD NEED TO PAY FOR THE REPAIR OUT OF POCKET. BOTTOM LINE, IT CAME DOWN TO A MONETARY ISSUE NOT A SAFETY FACTOR ISSUE FOR NISSAN. IT WAS OBVIOUS MY VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME POTENTIAL CONSEQUENCES AS THE OTHER 2005 NISSAN TITAN VIN'S IN THE RECALL CAMPAIGN. HOWEVER, BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE IN TRYING TO RESOLVE THIS MATTER, IT IS OBVIOUS NISSAN FEELS THE ONUS OF LIABILITY ULTIMATELY FALLS ON ME AS A CONSUMER AND NOT THEM, IF I WOULD LIKE TO OPERATE MY VEHICLE IN A SAFE MANNER. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO START. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL TANK WAS EMPTY AND NEEDED FUEL IN ORDER TO START THE VEHICLE. ALSO, THE TECHNICIAN NOTICED THAT THE FUEL GAUGE READ A QUARTER TANK FULL. AS A RESULT, THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE FUEL SENDER UNIT INSIDE THE FUEL TANK NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 10V074000 (FUEL SYSTEM, OTHER). THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 170,000.

WE TOOK THE TITAN TO A NISSAN DEALERSHIP FOR RECALL SERVICE AND GENERAL SERVICE ONLY TO FIND OUT THAT THE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR THAT WAS ON RECALL NOTICE IS NOT COVERED ON OUR PARTICULAR VIN. INTERESTING THAT THE $110 DIAGNOSTIC TEST I WAS CHARGED FOR SHOWED THAT SENSOR HAS FAILED, BUT NISSAN REFUSES TO COVER MY VEHICLE UNDER THE RECALL. BY LOOKING AT THE COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE, I CAN SEE I AM NOT THE ONLY CONSUMER AFFECTED BY THIS ISSUE. MAKES ME WONDER IF NISSAN IS ACTUALLY HONORING ANY OF THE RECALLS FOR THIS PARTICULAR REPAIR. INTERESTING THAT AFTER MY SERVICE DATE, I WAS CONTACTED BY A SALES REPRESENTATIVE WITH THE SAME DEALERSHIP ASKING IF I WOULD CONSIDER BRINGING IN MY 2005 TITAN FOR A TRADE-IN OPPORTUNITY. I DON'T WANT A NEW CAR, I WANT THIS ONE REPAIRED WITH THE RECALL THAT WAS ISSUED TO ADDRESS THIS PROBLEM. I CONTACTED THE NATIONAL OFFICE AND WAS ASSIGNED A CASE NUMBER AND THE INDIVIDUAL HANDLING THE CASE ALSO DECLINED MY REQUEST FOR REPAIR. ON THAT SAME CALL, I WAS ASKED HOW MANY NISSAN VEHICLES I OWN AND IF I WOULD CONSIDER BUYING A NISSAN IN THE FUTURE. BASED ON MY EXPERIENCE WITH THIS RECALL, I WILL NEVER OWN ANOTHER NISSAN. NOR WILL I RECOMMEND NISSAN TO ANYONE WHO ASKED WHAT OUR EXPERIENCE HAS BEEN WITH THIS VEHICLE AND THE NISSAN MOTOR CORPORATION. *TR

MY TRUCK STOPPED ONE SUNDAY I WAS SITTING AT THE RED LIGHT. I TRIED TO START IT BUT IT WOULDN'T START SO I CALLED A TOW TRUCK AND HAD IT TOWED TO THE NISSAN DEALERSHIP. ON MONDAY MORNING I GET A CALL FROM THE SERVICE DEPARTMENT AND THEY TOLD ME MY TRUCK WAS OUT OF GAS. I TOLD THEM THAT I HAD A LITTLE BIT OVER A QUARTER TANK OF GAS IN IT. HE TOLD ME THAT THEY WOULD CALL ME BACK AFTER A COMPLETE CHECK. THEY CALLED BACK AND TOLD ME THAT MY TRUCK NEEDED A FUEL SENDER UNIT AND A FUEL RING, I TOLD THEM TO GO AHEAD AND REPAIR IT. ON TUESDAY I WENT AND PICKED UP MY TRUCK AND THEY EXPLAINED TO ME THAT MY FUEL LEVELING SENSOR SHORTED OUT. I PAID A TOTAL OF 515.88 PLUS 65.00 FOR TOWING ON SOMETHING THAT HAD A RECALL ON IT. I DON'T KNOW IF THEY KNEW IT WAS UNDER RECALL OR NOT BUT I WOULD LIKE TO FIND OUT IF I PAID FOR SOMETHING THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I HAVE MY RECEIPTS AND IT SHOWS THE DATES OF THE INCIDENT CAME AFTER THE RECALL DATES. *TR

WHILE DRIVING WITH MY FAMILY, MY TITAN RAN OUT OF GAS WHILE THE GAUGE SHOWED 1/4 TANK, STRANDING MYSELF, MY PREGNANT WIFE AND 2YR OLD DAUGHTER IN A DANGEROUS AREA, AND IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY STREET. I HAD TO GET OUT AND PUSH THE TRUCK TO A PARKING LOT. I THEN WALKED TWO MILES TO GET 2 GALLONS OF GAS, FORCED TO LEAVE MY FAMILY WITH THE STRANDED TRUCK(MY WIFE CAN'T WALK THAT FAR RIGHT NOW). I RETURNED, PUT THE 2 GALLONS IN THE TANK AND IT STARTED RIGHT UP. I CALLED THE DEALER, WHICH GAVE ME A LOUSY EXCUSE AS TO WHY THOUSANDS OF THESE TRUCKS WERE RECALLED BECAUSE OF THIS SAME ISSUE, EXCEPT MINE. THEY OFFERED TO GIVE ME A GREAT DEAL. 600 DOLLARS FOR THE REPAIR WHEN THE PART COSTS $77. THEN JUST LAST WEEK THE TRUCK RAN OUT OF GAS, THIS TIME ON THE FREEWAY, NEARLY CAUSING AN ACCIDENT WITH A SEMI TRUCK, WHILE SHOWING ALMOST 1/2 TANK. UPON RESEARCHING THIS ISSUE, I HAVE DISCOVERED THAT THOUSANDS OF TITAN OWNERS ARE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM AND NOT BEING COVERED UNDER THE RECALL. I CONTACTED THE BAR AND AFTER THEIR INVESTIGATION, THE DEALER DISCLOSED THAT ALL TITANS WERE MADE WITH THE DEFECTIVE FUEL LEVEL SENSOR, AND THAT THE DEALER WAS REPLACING THESE PARTS EVERY DAY, NOT COVERED BY THE RECALL. TO SUM IT UP, I SPENT GOOD MONEY FOR A TRUCK THAT I THOUGHT WOULD BE A SAFE VEHICLE FOR MYSELF AND MY FAMILY, WHICH IT IS NOT. I'M VERY SERIOUS I WAS ALMOST KILLED WHEN IT HAPPENED ON THE FREEWAY. I HAVE OWNED A LOT OF VEHICLES, AND HAVE NEVER EVER HEARD OF SUCH A SAFETY ISSUE THAT ISN'T ADDRESSED BY RECALLS. BASICALLY THIS TRUCK IS A DEATH TRAP, IT'S ONLY A MATTER OF TIME UNTIL SOMETHING TRAGIC HAPPENS, ALL BECAUSE NISSAN WILL NOT OWN UP TO THEIR FAULTY PARTS. IN FACT THEY ARE VERY DISRESPECTFUL, AND UNPROFESSIONAL WHEN TALKING TO THEM ABOUT IT. I WAS ON MY WAY HOME, FROM AN ERRAND. THE ENGINE BEGAN TO RUN IRREGULARLY, THEN SHUT OFF. AT FIRST I DID NOT THINK I WAS OUR OF GAS BECAUSE THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS 1/4 TANK OF GAS. TRAVELING AT 65 MPH WHEN THE VEHICLE RAN OUT OF GAS. THE FUEL GAUGE INDICATED THAT THERE WAS BETWEEN 1/4 AND 1/8 OF A TANK REMAINING AND THE LOW FUEL WARNING LIGHT HAD NOT COME ON. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO RESTART THE ENGINE WERE UNSUCCESSFUL. UPON ADDING 1.5 GALLONS OF FUEL THE VEHICLE RE-STARTED ON THE FIRST TRY SO IT WAS DEFINITELY OUT OF GAS. NISSAN HAS A RECALL FOR THIS VERY ISSUE BUT I WAS TOLD IT DOES NOT COVER MY VIN# ALTHOUGH IT IS FOR SOME VEHICLES OF MY MAKE AND MODEL YEAR. I PAID TO HAVE THE FUEL SENSOR IN THE GAS TANK REPAIRED AND THE PROBLEM WENT AWAY IMMEDIATELY AND HAS NOT RESURFACED. NISSAN MAY NEED TO EXPAND THEIR RECALL AS MY VEHICLE DEFINITELY EXPERIENCED THE SYMPTOMS OF THE RECALLED VEHICLES. *TR

I'VE HAD TWO INCIDENTS WHERE MY TRUCK HAS RUN OUT OF GAS DUE TO THE FUEL GAUGE DISPLAYING THE WRONG AMOUNT OF GAS IN THE TANK. THERE HAS BEEN A RECALL ON 2005 - 2009 TITANS FOR THIS SPECIFIC PROBLEM YET MY VEHICLES VIN HASN'T BEEN ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL. I'VE CONTACTED TWO LOCAL DEALERS AND THE NISSAN COMPANY DIRECTLY FOR A RESOLUTION BUT I'VE BEEN TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO REPAIR THE PROBLEM MYSELF.
