REAR AXLE SEAL FAILS AND CAUSES DIFFERENTIAL OIL TO LEAK OUT CAUSING A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WHILE DRIVING.
REAR AXEL SEAL LEAKS CAUSES FLUID TO GET ON BRAKES AND CAN CAUSE ABS FEATURE TO FAIL. PRESENTING A HAZAROUNDAFE SITUATION
RADIATOR FLUID MIXING WITH TRANSMISSION FLUID VIA INTERNAL COOLER IN RADIATOR CAUSING VEHICLE TO STOP MOVING ALTHOUGH MOTOR FUNCTIONING PROPERLY.
REAR END LOCKED UP AND HAD TO BE REPLACED. OVER THE YEARS, THE REAR SEALS WOULD CONSTANTLY LEAK AND WERE REPLACED MULTIPLE TIMES AND WAS USUALLY BROUGHT TO MY ATTENTION DURING OIL CHANGES/INSPECTIONS. I GUESS THEY DIDNT CATCH IT LEAKING AND CAUSED MY REAR END TO LOCK UP WHICH WAS VERY DANGEROUS AND COULD HAVE CAUSED A MAJOR ACCIDENT. I WAS HEADING TO WORK AROUND 4-5 AM IN THE MORNING AND ALL MY LIGHTS ON MY TRUCK CAME ON KIND OF FELT LIKE I BLEW A TIRE AND STARTED PULLING VERY HARD. I WAS ABLE TO GET OFF THE ROAD RATHER QUICKLY AND HAD IT TOWED. I KNOW PLENTY OF PEOPLE THAT HAVE HAD THIS ISSUES WITH THE EARLY MODEL NISSAN TITANS. BESIDES THAT THOUGH I HAVE BEEN PLEASED WITH MY TITAN. I HAVE OVER 500K MILES ON IT CURRENTLY. FYI THIS HAPPENED YEARS BACK BUT I WAS READING A FORUM THAT WE SHOULD TRY TO GET THIS RECALLED AND IT DID COST ME ALOT TO HAVE THE REAR END FIXED.
TRANSMISSION HAS BEEN STUCK IN 4TH GEAR WHILE IN DRIVE. IT. WILL SWITCH INTO PARK, REVERSE AND NEUTRAL. WHEN THE TRUCK IS PUT ON THE COMPUTER THERE ARE NO ERROR CODES SHOWING THAT WOULD REQUIRE REPAIR THEREFORE NISSAN REFUSES TO SUBMIT ANY DOCUMENTATION HIGHER TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE WITH THIS STANDARD TRANSMISSION IN ALL OF THEIR VEHICLES. ON A SIDE NOTE, I'VE HAD 2 OTHER NISSANS WITH A CENTRAL VARIABLE TRANSMISSION THAT HAVE ALL DONE THIS AS WELL. I'VE SINCE BEEN ABLE TO GET RID OF THOSE VEHICLES, BUT I AM STUCK WITH THIS ONE.
REAR DIFFERENTIAL IS LEAKING GEAR OIL OUT OF BOTH ENDS OF MY RWD TRUCK. CONTACTED NISSAN DEALER AND THEY REFERRED ME TO NISSAN CONSUMER AFFAIRS. FILED A CLAIM AND WAS TOLD THAT THE VEHICLE IS OUT OF MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY SO THEY WOULD NOT ASSIST WITH REPAIR EVEN THOUGH THIS IS A KNOWN ISSUE WITH NISSAN TITAN TRUCKS, PARTICULARLY BETWEEN MODELS YEARS 2004-2006. I HAVE NEVER TOWED WITH THIS TRUCK AND HAVE CHANGED THE GEAR OIL FREQUENTLY. ALSO, I HAVE REPLACED THE BREATHER PERIODICALLY AS WELL. NOW THE FLUID IS FLOWING OUT WHEN VEHICLE IS STATIONARY.
AFTER MANY, MANY HOURS OF RESEARCH ONLINE TO FIND A RECALL ON THE NOTORIOUS REAR END AXLE PROBLEM WITH THE 2004, 2005, AND SOME 2006 NISSAN TITAN'S THERE IS LITERALLY THOUSANDS OF PEOPLE WITH THE SAME PROBLEM I AM HAVING AND NISSAN HAS YET TO PUT A RECALL OUT DUE TO THE POOR DESIGN OF THEIR REAR ENDS IN THESE PICK-UPS. THE PROBLEM IS THE REAR AXLE SEALS GOING BAD. THE PROBLEM STARTS AT THE TOP OF THE REAR END WITH THE VENTILATION SYSTEM. THE VENTILATION SYSTEM ALLOWS MOISTURE AND WATER TO ENTER THE REAR END ASSEMBLY WHICH CAUSES THE AXLE SEALS TO LEAK WHICH THEN IN TURNS GEAR OIL LEAKING ALL OVER THE REAR BRAKES, WHICH IN TURN LEAKS ON TO THE HIGHWAY. THE FIRST SET OF SEALS COST ME ALMOST $1,200 I AM ON MY 3RD SET OF SEALS, AND THEY ARE LEAKING AGAIN. I HAVE OWNED THE TRUCK FOR 3 YEARS AND THE VEHICLE HAS 136,XXX ON IT. THE FIRST SET OF SEALS WENT AT UNDER 20,000 MILES. THIS IS A SERIOUS PROBLEM DUE TO THE FACT OF THE REAR END GEAR OIL LEAKING ONTO THE REAR BRAKES AND OUR HIGHWAYS. THERE NEEDS TO BE SOMETHING DONE ABOUT A RECALL ON THESE REAR ENDS OF THESE VEHICLES, BEFORE SOMEONE'S LIFE IS TAKEN UNEXPECTEDLY.

RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE AXLE SEAL FAILURE COST OF REPAIR $386.44. 2ND AXLE SEAL FAILURE TO RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE OCURRED 08/26/14 COST OF REPAIR $402.92 3RD AXLE SEAL FAILURE TO RIGHT REAR PASSENGER SIDE OCURRED 02/16/15 REPAIR NOT COMPLETED YET. *TR
I WAS ALERTED THAT MY 2006 NISSAN TITAN NEEDED TO HAVE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL REPLACED AS THERE WAS "LOOSENESS" AND FLUID LEAKING. I WAS TOLD THAT THIS WAS NOT REPAIRABLE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. FAILURE TO DO SO COULD CAUSE THE FRONT DIFFERENTIAL TO LOCK UP, CAUSING POSSIBLE SUDDEN STOPPING AND POSSIBLE LOSS OF CONTROL.
STEERING GEAR SHIFTER IS STUCK ON "D" DRIVE AND DOES NOT SHIFT TO LOWER GEARS. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AT THE END OF 2006 BRAND NEW. ABOUT TWO YEARS LATER, THE SHIFTER DID NOT WORK ANYMORE. I WAS TOLD THAT THEY WOULD HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE SHIFTER PART WHICH IS VERY EXPENSIVE TO FIX. THANKS....UPDATED 01/04/2016 *BF
WHILE TRAVELING AT 80 MPH I FELT AN ODD SHAKE ON MY TITAN. I EXITED THE FREEWAY AND GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE. THE REAR DRIVER SIDE WAS SMOKING. I NOTICED GEAR OIL LEAKING OUT ALL OVER THE BRAKES AND TIRE. I ENDED UP NEEDING TO REPLACE THE AXLE, SEAL,BEARING,BACKING PLATE AND ABS SENSOR. $1300.00 AND 3 DAYS LATER IT IS BACK IN THE SHOP. LEAKING GEAR OIL FROM THE SAME PLACE. WAITING TO HEAR FROM MECHANIC WHAT I NEED TO DO NEXT. *TR

REAR DIFFERENTIAL SEALS LEAKED ON BRAKE ASSEMBLIES. GEAR OIL WAS PRESENT ON BRAKE ASSEMBLIES, WHEELS AND TIRES. I REPLACED LEFT AND RIGHT SIDE DIFFERENTIAL SEALS AND BEARINGS. AN ALLIGNMENT WAS NECESSARY AND WAS PERFORMED. *TR

WHILE DRIVING AT 45 MPH TRANSMISSION DROPS OUT OF GEAR AND TRUCK ENGINE NEARLY RED LINES. WAS UNABLE TO GET COMPLETELY OFF THE ROAD. AFTER SITTING FOR A FEW MINUTES WAS ABLE TO MOVE THE TRUCK A FEW FEET TO GET COMPLETELY OUT OF TRAFFIC. HAD VEHICLE TOWED TO NISSAN DEALER WHERE THEY INFORMED ME THAT I HAD AN INTERMIX OF COOLANT AND TRANSMISSION FLUID. THEY STATED THAT THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THAT THEY SEE AND THAT NISSAN EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 80,000 MILES BUT I AM NOT COVERED. THEY QUOTED ME $8700 TO REPAIR. SPOKE TO A FEW TRANSMISSION SHOPS AND THEY ALL INDICATED THAT THEY ENCOURAGE THEIR NISSAN CLIENTS TO BYPASS THE INTERNAL TRANNY COOLER IN THE RADIATOR WITH AN EXTERNAL ON WHEN THEY REACH 80,000 MILES. THEY SAID THE COST TO DO THIS IS LESS THAN $300.00. NISSAN KNOWS OF THIS AND EVEN LOST A CLASS ACTION SUIT BUT HAS NEVER INFORMED ANYONE. FOR A $300 FIX I AM NOW OUT A TRUCK AND OR $9000.00!!!! WAY TO GO NISSAN!! *TR

HEARD NOISE IN TRANSFER CASE, TOOK IN TO MECHANIC TO HAVE PROBLEM CHECKED. FOUND OUT ANTI-FREEZE AND TRASMISSION FLUID WERE MIXED TOGETHER. TRANSMISSION HAD TO BE REBUILT. AFTER REPAIR NEEDED ADDITIONAL REPAIR TO REPAIR TRANSMISSION LINE THAT HAD CAME OFF.
TODAY I FOUND THAT MY REAR AXLE OIL SEALS ARE LEAKING. IT IS SO BAD THAT THE OIL IS GETTING ON THE REAR BRAKES. WHICH MAKES SENSE CONSIDERING I HAVE NOTICED THAT MY REAR BRAKES ARE NOT FUNCTIONING PROPERLY. THIS PROBLEM NEEDS TO BE ADDRESSED WITH BETTER OIL SEALS SO THAT THIS DOES NOT HAPPEN TO ANYONE ELSE. *TR
LEFT REAR AXLE SEAL BLEW OUT AND LEAKED DIFFERENITAL FLUID. DIFFERENTIAL FLUID LEAKING ON REAR BRAKE ROTOR WHICH COULD CAUSE BRAKE FAILURE. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN TO ME. THE LEAKING DIFFERENTIAL FLUID WILL CAUSED THE REAR DIFFERENTIAL TO FAIL. THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE NISSAN TITAN, NISSAN SHOULD ADDRESS THIS ISSUE AND OFFER A PERMANENT FIX SO TITAN OWNERS WOULD NOT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THIS SAFETY ISSUE IN THE FUTURE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2006 NISSAN TITAN. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 70 MPH AND ATTEMPTING TO SLOW THE VEHICLE DOWN, THE IT BEGAN TO MAKE A RUMBLING NOISE. WHEN THE VEHICLE STOPPED MOVING, THE DRIVE SHAFT FELL OUT. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING. THE REAR AXLE AND DIFFERENTIAL WERE REPLACED. TWO YEARS LATER THE VEHICLE BEGAN TO LEAK DIFFERENTIAL FLUID. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 100,000.
FIRST OF ALL ,I WOULD LIKE TO SAY THAT MY TRUCK HAS HIGH MILES.I PURCHASED IT NEW, DEALER SERVICED ONLY.IN FACT MY TRUCK WAS SERVICED BY A DEALER IN MIAMI ON 3-28-13 FOR OIL CHANGE ,THE DAY BEFORE I LOST MY TRANSMISSION BECAUSE OF ,WHAT I NOW KNOW TO BE COMMON PLACE, A $5 COOLING TUBING THAT GOES TO THE TRANSMISSION. MY FIRST THOUGHT WAS MAYBE THE TECH AT THE DEALER BROKE THE TUBING SINCE ITS INCHES AWAY FROM THE OIL FILTER AND MY VEHICLE WAS SERVICED THERE HOURS BEFORE I LOST ALL MY FLUID,THEREFORE BURNING UP MY TRANSMISSION, YOU WOULD THINK THAT THE DEALERS WOULD CHECK THE TUBING SINCE ITS RIGHT IN THE TECH'S FACE WHILE CONDUCTING OIL CHANGES. OH WELL ,MY TRUCK WAS WELL MAINTAINED,STILL LOOKS GREAT,TOTALLY LOADED LE, MY TRANNY WENT DOWN WITHOUT WARNING,THIS WILL COST ME AROUND $6000.I`M A NISSAN MAN,I JUST PURCHASED THE NEW 2013 PATHFINDER FOR MY WIFE BACK IN DECEMBER BEFORE IT EVEN APPEARED ON THE STREETS, SHOULD I HAVE FEARS ABOUT DEFECTS WITH THIS ONE ? WITHIN A PERIOD OF 14-15 MONTHS BOTH REAR AXLE SEAL ASSEMBLIES FAILED, ONE EACH ON PASSENGER AND DRIVER SIDE OF THE REAR AXLE. ACCORDING TO NATIONAL TIRE & BATTERY THE ENTIRE AXLE ASSEMBLY IS REQUIRED TO REPAIR OR REPLACE A SEAL THAT IS LEAKING, AT A COST OF APPROXIMATELY $1000.00 EACH TIME. THIS SEEMS QUITE UNREASONABLE AND EXCESSIVE TO REPLACE AN AXLE THAT IS IN PERFECT OPERATING CONDITION WHEN THE ONLY ISSUE IS WITH A RUBBER BOOT (SEAL) THAT IS LEAKING FLUID. *TR
