Received a recall letter Jan 2024 concerning C4B/NHTSA24V-896. I have contacted the FCA recall assistance center several times since then. They say there is no parts available for this recall. Yet they have not seemed to have this problem with 2019-2026 models. They say I can have the HCU replaced at my own cost and they will reimburse me for the cost. But there is no guaranty it will fix the problem or how long it may last if it does. This causes me problems because why should I have to pay nd Waite on my money to be returned to me in 60 days. I am retired and on Social security and can only afford to put this on a credit and which I would have to pay interest on. It seems you or FCA has any intentions of coming up with a fix for this recall.
My 2018 Ram 2500 has an active safety recall for the ABS/EBS system that has been open for over two years with no remedy or parts available. The issue was first noticed in August of 2023. I contacted CDJR dealership on how to repair this issue. This is a serious safety defect that directly affects braking stability, trailer brake communication, and emergency handling. Because the ABS module and electronic brake system are malfunctioning, the truck cannot safely perform the heavy towing it was purchased for. When towing a large trailer, the trailer’s electronic braking system does not communicate with the truck, forcing the truck to absorb the full braking load. This has resulted in unstable braking, increased stopping distance, and unsafe emergency handling at highway speeds. The ABS fault also disables cruise control, which significantly increases driver fatigue on long-distance trips. I regularly travel 1,500 miles each way to Florida, and without cruise control I must maintain throttle manually for hours at a time, requiring more frequent stops and reducing alertness. This defect has caused premature brake wear due to the trailer brakes not engaging properly. I was forced to replace the rear rotors and pads at only 32,000 miles, costing me $2,700. This is not normal for a heavy-duty truck and is directly related to the ABS/EBS failure. The unresolved recall has also severely reduced the resale and trade-in value of the vehicle. Dealers discount or refuse vehicles with open safety recalls and no available remedy. I am also paying $138 per month for a Mopar extended warranty that I cannot use to repair this defect because the manufacturer has not supplied the necessary parts for over two years. This is an unreasonable delay for a safety-critical recall. The vehicle is unsafe for its intended purpose, creates financial harm, and exposes me to ongoing risk every time I tow. I am requesting NHTSA intervention to compel Stellantis to provide a timely remedy.
Dash warnings for abs / traction control flicker on and off steadily. Every time the warnings come off it kicks off cruise control. I live in often snowy conditions and I worry that steadily changing traction control systems will absolutely be dangerous. Not to mention the frustrating noises of the alerts coming on Avery few seconds. As I was told by my dealer, this recall has been out there since December of 2024. I’ve been dealing with this issue for months and it is getting worse.
My 2018 RAM 2500 has had an ABS system recall since Nov 2024. My truck has had a problem with the ABS since 2019. I do not have anit-lock brakes or cruise control as a result of this failure to be able to resolve the problem. Over a year since the recall, and still no parts available. How long is the NHTSA going to let RAM get away with this?? Maybe after some has an accident or hurts someone they will respond. I have been a RAM owner since 1989 since the first CUMMINS engine was put in their 2500's. I'm VERY disappointed in RAM, and the NHTSA for not resolving this.
abs and traction lights stay on. cruise control does not work. recall is 24V-896 and parts are still not available after almost a year.
Since the recall was announced, my truck has experienced constant ABS and traction control alarms, including an unending beeping warning chime that makes the vehicle unpleasant and unsafe to drive. My local Ram dealer confirms that the repair parts (HCU/ABS module) are not available and that there is no estimated time frame for replacement. This situation has now persisted for months, leaving me with: •A continuously beeping alarm while driving or idling, •A loss of confidence in braking and safety systems, •And a significant loss in resale value, since I cannot sell or trade the vehicle while this open safety recall remains unresolved. Impact This recall defect has made my vehicle effectively undriveable and unsellable. I have made multiple attempts to have it repaired, but the dealer and Stellantis representatives continue to tell me that parts remain on national backorder. As a result, I am deprived of the safe and normal use of my property. Under 49 U.S.C. § 30120, a manufacturer must provide a free and timely remedy for a safety defect. The ongoing delay and the lack of any interim solution (such as a loaner or disabling the alarm) clearly violate the spirit of this requirement and constitute a constructive deprivation of use. Requested Action I respectfully request that Stellantis: 1.Provide a functional remedy immediately (replacement HCU or equivalent). 2.If parts are still unavailable, provide a loaner vehicle, temporary compensation, or buyback option until the repair can be made. 3.Confirm in writing the expected date when replacement parts will be available for my VIN. I am filing a concurrent complaint with NHTSA to document this safety-related hardship and ongoing loss of vehicle use and value. Documentation Available upon request: •Copy of dealer service report indicating unavailable parts. •Photographs/videos showing active ABS and traction control alarms. •Records of my prior attempts to schedule service.
The ABS system continuously dings and the cruise control will not work and shuts itself off due to recalled defective part. Waiting for new recall part!!!!!!! Why was a recall issued with no part to fix??? Make them get their act together. This is dangerous and maddening to listen to constant bell ringing in the vehicle. Not to mention the possibility of an accident. This vehicle is my daily driver. I need the vehicle to be operational and safe.
Logging a second complaint for the brake hydraulic control unit that is already recognized by FCA as a defect that needs to be replaced. I am two years into this failed unit and continue to be told by the dealer and manufacturer's customer service that the replacement part is not available and they do not have a delivery date for this part. In the last two years I have had (4) near collisions as a result of no anti-lock brakes and no traction control. Additionally the cruise control is not active when this part fails and as a long-distance driver this is fatiguing. The contant dinging of the warning light and bell is extremely irritating. The reference number for FCA's recall is C4B/NHTSA 24V-896.
Vehicle is subject to safety recall for malfunctioning HCU. Frequent illumination of Anti-Lock Break and Traction Control Warning Lights with accompanying Chime and loss of Cruise Control function. When illuminated, vehicle rear wheels will slip and braking is degraded. Illumination of Warning Lights and chime very distracting. FCA initially estimated repair parts available first quarter of 2025. This has passed and no updates are available from manufacturer. This is an unsafe condition.and I request NHTSA intercede on behalf of the 300,000+ owners affected and seek clarification from manufacturer on when they plan on honoring this recall.
August of 2023 I had my service electronic braking system, abs, and traction control light come on. Dealer diagnosed as bad hcu. As of today 2-4-25 I am still waiting on parts with no answer as to when parts will be available for the repair.
My abs control warning goes on and off and will not allow me to use cruise control and is constantly beeping at me.
17427 miles 68143491aa control anti-lock brake system replaced 68347098ab module anti-lock brake system replaced code found c0021-01 replacement of the hcu and module. 12/30/2019 At 80,460 mi same code and information appeared again. 12/23/2022 No ABS brakes /no speed control continues currently 111,400 miles an indicator lights stay on.
Constantly throwing ABS code and electronic braking system code, and then, turning off the alerts on dashboard. Many complaints of 2018 models were found online and a class action lawsuit.
Vehicle has a control module failure causing the ABS, Traction Control, Cruise Control and other braking systems to intermittently turn off and on. The vehicle has been brought in for this issue and we have been told they are unable to get parts to replace the module at this time. This has been an ongoing issue for multiple years, with the failure occurring at a higher percentage of time the vehicle is driven now.
Warning lights for ABS and traction control coming on with message to 'Service Electronic Braking System'. During this time the ABS does not work and cruise control stops working. Being a 2500 vehicle, it is commonly used for towing trailers as it has a towing capacity up to ~16K lbs. Suddenly not having ABS and traction control is dangerous. In July 2024 I was driving from Phoenix, AZ to East Texas with a ~10K lbs trailer and this issue suddenly started popping up. This is the first time I experienced this with this vehicle. I understand there is a known issue with the hydraulic control unit and the ABS modules for 2017-2018 2500 & 3500 models yet there has been no recall on these vehicles.
Driving on interstate highway with cruise control engaged. Experienced rapid deceleration as cruise control disengaged without driver input. Received anti-lock braking error / service electronic braking system error. Was very dangerous situation to have occur unexpectedly and could have easily resulted in rear end collision or loss of control of vehicle. Received no warning prior to this failure. Issue has been sporadic but occurring more frequently. Vehicle has less effective braking in adverse road conditions. Never know when the anti lock brake system will be functional. A bump or vibration in the road can cause it to engage or disengage. Ram dealer service dept indicates Hydraulic Control Unit needs to be replaced. Looking online, I see this is an exceptionally common occurence in same year/make vehicles. So much so that the replacement part is backordered for months.
While driving the PU with my camper in tow, the ABS and Service electronic bakes system warning were displayed on my dash. Then they went out. This process repeated several times over the next 3-4 minutes. Then the warning lights came on and stayed on. It remained that way until I parked on the side of the road and turned off the vehicle. I checked the undercarriage for any signs of any visible damage to the braking system. None was readily identifiable. Upon restarting the vehicle, all warning lights were extinguished. I proceeded to the campgrounds with out further warnings on this system. The next day, with out the camper in tow, the warning lights were again active flashing on and off for a period of about 3-4 minutes before they again came on and stayed on. This process repeated itself as I would turn off the vehicle and then restart it. Upon parking for the evening they were still on. When I started again the next day, they were off.
ABS/traction control warning lights and alarm intermittently on and off during driving, speed control does not work during the alarm cycle. ABS not working when warning comes on
Abs module failure causing cruise control shutdowns and potentially causing an accident as well as transmission issues. Yes it’s been confirmed by an independent shop . Not by any others. No warning before just straight failure. Vehicle is available currently for inspection if wanted
The ABS warning light and alarm come on while driving. Loss of ABS and cruise control, near rear end collision by following vehicles on the freeway while using cruise control. Ram knows they have a problem with 2017 and 2018 2500 pickups. Why no recall? Safety problem!
Abs light and traction control warning light constantly coming on and off while driving and a warning sound playing every time the lights come on in the dash, which is very annoying and frustrating. The truck is under 30 000 miles and unfortunately is out of warranty. I don’t drive this truck very much and having this kind of problems with it is totally unacceptable.
abs lite comes on. service electronic braking system message. cruise will not work when fault is active. second time for this. fixed first time under warranty. truck only has 60k miles.
The Service Anti-lock Braking System warning lights and audio alarms come on almost constantly at times along with the cruise control failing, a common problem I understand which Dodge Ram has to be aware of. This truck has only 7000 miles on it!
Abs module failure. Traction control failure Stability control failure. Module replaced by dealer once under warranty and failed a little over a year later. Dealer would not replace defective unit stating it was out of warranty.
2018 Dodge 2500 w 75K miles. "Service ABS" and "Service Electronic Braking System" warning lights coming on intermittently for appx last 1.5K miles. When this happens, it disengages the cruise control when set, or keeps it from being engaged when unset . Noted yesterday that Braking performance is now lessened- slightly increased stopping distance noted when pulling an appx 3K lb trailer (no trailer brakes), which i regularly tow. Brake fluid levels good, brake shoes/calipers/rotors in very good shape.
