Chronological view of owner reports
While car was parked. Front windshield developed crack in the lower mid section of windshield. There was no damage to windshield that would have resulted in cracking. Crack has since spread.
Windshield breaks (cracks) very easily. I have owned/driven cars for 45 years, during the first 41 years I have only had to replace one (1) windshield. Since I have owned this vehicle (Subaru), I am now onto windshield number five (5). Are they making these windows with inferior materials or thinner? I hate to think that an inferior window will not hold up or perform as designed in a major accident, possibly causing greater injury or death.
Over the course of 3 days, my vehicle has sustained 4 chips in the windshield from standard city street driving. The windshield now needs to be replaced from excessive cracks.
Was sitting in car preparing to leave. Car was in park and turned on. Heard a loud popping/creaking noise. Looked up and the front windshield cracked in several places.
I was stopped at a stop light. Traffic was basically at a stand still while the lights were changing. During this time my windshield spontaneously cracked on the lower center section of the glass. It cracked for seemingly no reason at all. Since traffic was stopped there's no way it could have been caused by a rock or flying debris. No weather (such as hail) was occurring at the time.
Chipped windshield, crack started to spread inside the windshield
My car was parked outside on the street and when I went to drive it the next morning the windshield had a foot long crack in it. There is no obvious point of collision--it looks like it just split. I will need to replace the windshield for around $1300 since the crack is so large.
A large Crack appeared and the bottom middle of the windshield and cracked upwards to the lower middle windshield and cracked both to the left and right side.
I was driving at approximately 5 mph, on a road with several steep speed bumps, with no cars around and no overhanging trees, and suddenly a 24-inch hairline crack popped across the driver's side of my windshield. There's no evidence of any impact at all on the windshield--the crack is entirely in between the laminate. Entire windshield now needs to be replaced and I assume the EyeSight recalibrated.
Vehicle was parked in sunlight for approximately 4 hours on a private driveway. Came back and there was a 12+ inch crack in the windshield. No evidence of rock chips. Glass will not be able to be inspected because it needed to be replaced.
The windshield cracked without any reason, at the top by the passenger side. The initial crack was approximately a foot and it has since grown and is moving horizontally across the windshield. It is available for inspection. This happened while the car was parked.
The contact owns a 2020 SUBARU IMPREZA. The contact stated that after warming up the after driving approximately 1/10 th of a mile at approximately 10 mph or less when the vehicle's windshield suddenly fractured under the seal rubber in the lower center of the vehicle. in the lower then suddenly migrated to the left and to the right of the windshield in different directions. The contact contacted the dealer however they had not inspected the vehicle in person as of yet. The manufacturer was not made aware of the issue. The approximate failure mileage was 41,000.
MY WINDSHIELD CRACKED SEEMINGLY OVER NOTHING AND I REPLACED IT FOR $800 AND NOW IT HAS CRACKED AGAIN A WEEK AFTER SEEMINGLY OVER NOTHING
Windshield cracked for no apparent reason
Spontaneous windshield large crack while parked at worksite parking place on 06/07/2021. My safety was put at risk because I had to drive back home not knowing if the windshield would explode. I called the dealer (Herb Gordon Subaru in Silver Spring Maryland)right away (around 5:30 pm) and they gave me an appointment for repair with an $800 estimate. They did not inform me of Subaru issued with windshields. This is a recently purchased pre-owned Certified vehicle on 3/22/2020. Called the insurance company and advised me to go in person talk to the dealership which I will today 6/8/2021. No warnings nor I noticed any thing hitting the windshield.
When driving on freeways, twice in the last 6 months, the windshield was struck by a small piece of gravel and cracked immediately. The first time there was an impact indent and a 6 inch crack, the second time there was a star shaped indent and an 11 inch crack. The windshield does not seem strong enough to deal with small gravel impacts. In both cases the crack spread overnight as the car heated and cooled. Both times I had the windshield replaced by a USAA-certified glass replacement shop and recalibrated by Subaru.
I was informed that the windshields in certain models are spontaneously cracking two inches from the bottom of the windshield - a tiny rock caused a 14 inch crack which is unheard of. Clearly, the windshield is terrible and Subaru doesn’t want to take responsibility for their faulty windshields. When I check Google, I am not the only one.
The windshield spontaneously cracked. The car has 3600 miles on it, has never been driven on a highway, and resides in a garage
HAD TO REPLACE THE OEM WINDSHIELD AGAIN DUE TO SMALL ROCK MAKING THE WINDSHIELD CRACK THE WHOLE SCREEN. THE SCREEN IS NOT UP TO STANDARDS AND HAS TO BE REPLACED ALOT! IT'S TO WEEK.
WAS DRIVING TO WORK AND MY WINDOW STARTED TO FOG SO I TURNED ON MY DEFROSTER AND MY WINDOW STARTED TO FORM A CRACK FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE WINDOW AND WORKED ITS WAY UP ABOUT 10 INCHES AND THEN FORMED A T ABOUT 6 INCHES ON EACH SIDE AT THE TOP
VEHICLE IS LESS THAN ONE YEAR OLD WITH NO DAMAGE BUT A LARGE CRACK HAS BEGUN SPREADING DOWN THE WINDSHIELD FROM THE TOP EDGE IN THE LAST WEEK. THERE IS NO EVIDENCE OF A ROCK STRIKE OR OTHER DAMAGE TO CAUSE THIS. IT APPEARS TO BE A DEFECT IN THE WINDSHIELD ITSELF.
WINDSHIELD CRACKED FOR NO KNOW REASON. VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED NEW. WINDSHIELD CRACKED AT APPROXIMATELY 7,000 MILES. IT WAS A WARM DAY. GENUINE SUBARU SUN SHIELD WAS PLACED ON DASH TO KEEP HEAT OUT. WHEN I GOT INTO THE VEHICLE AND REMOVED THE SUN SHIELD THE WINDSHIELD WAS CRACKED.
AFTER REPLACING A BRAND NEW OEM WINDSHIELD FROM THE FIRST TIME ONE MONTH LATER I HAD TWO SMALL ROCKS HIT MY WINDSHIELD AND CRACKED IT I AM FORCED TO REPLACE IT FOR A SECOND TIME. THIS IS VERY UNACCEPTABLE.
WHILE SITTING IN A PARKING SPOT GETTING READY TO GO INTO A STORE, THE WINDSHIELD SUDDENLY CRACKED. IT LOOKS LIKE IT CRACKED AT THE BOTTOM AND WENT UP ABOUT 12 TO 15 INCHES.
I GOT TO WORK AT 6AM AND THERE WAS NOTHING, GOT OUT AT 6PM AND SAW A BIG CRACK IN THE WINDSHIELD ON THE PASSENGER SIDE.
