TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SEAT BELTS WERE FOLDED OVER AND APPEARED VERY LOOSE. THE SEAT BELTS HAD NO STRENGTH AND WOULD NOT TIGHTEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO I-10 TOYOTA (78980 VARNER RD, INDIO, CA 92203, (760) 565-0447) WHERE THE MECHANICS UNFOLDED THE FRONT DRIVER AND PASSENGER SEAT BELTS; HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT'S SON HAD TO GET THE VEHICLE REPAIRED FIVE TIMES. THE SEAT BELTS CONTINUED TO FOLD AND WERE TOO TIGHT TO FASTEN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THIS ISN'T AN INCIDENT, BUT APPARENTLY HAS LED TO AN INCIDENT FOR MANY. DRIVERS SIDE SHOULDER BELTS EASILY FOLD OVER ITSELF ON THE SIDE, SO THEN WON'T RETRACT THROUGH THE SLOT IN THE PILLAR. ***SAFETY ISSUE*** DUE TO DESIGN, HAPPENED A LOT. REPLACEMENT OF ASSEMBLY SEEMS TO NOT BE A RELIABLE FIX, PER MANY OWNERS, AND NOT JUST CAMRY, MANY YEARS. ***NO RECALL NEEDED: ***IF TOYOTA MADE INFO ON HOW TO DEAL WITH IT FINDABLE AND AVAILABLE, OWNERS COULD RESOLVE IT - OVER AND OVER. ***TOYOTA & DEALERS HAVEN'T MADE THE INFO AVAILABLE. I SPENT THREE HOURS ONLINE, COUNTLESS PEOPLE ASKING HOW DO I..... IF A PERSON KNOWS HOW, THEY CAN UNDO THE PROBLEM, THEN CAN MINIMIZE PROBABILITY OF IT HAPPENING AGAIN *** BY SLOWLY PULLING BELT, AND *** ESPECIALLY RELEASING IT SLOWLY. ***WHEN IT GETS MESSED UP, MOVE THE SHOULDER HEIGHT ADJUSTER ON THE PILLER UP AND DOWN UNTIL IT FIXES. JUST ABOUT EXACTLY THAT INFORMATION SHOULD BE PROVIDED TO EACH PERSON WHO NEWLY ACQUIRES A USED CAMRY. I HAVE NO IDEA WHETHER THE PROBLEM IS SEEN ON 2018, BUT ONLINE REPORTS INDICATES IT IS ON MANY MODEL YEARS, AND *** NOT JUST CAMRYS.

WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE STREET, THE LEFT REAR PASSENGER HAD THE SEAT BELT BUCKLE DETACH FROM THE SEAT BELT WITH THE BUCKLE REMAINING ON THE BELT. UPON ARRIVING AT MY RESIDENCE I INSPECTED THE SEAT BELTS, I NOTICED THAT THE RIGHT PASSENGER BELT BUCKLE WAS ALSO DETACHED FROM THE STRAP. IT SEAMS THE THREADS WHERE THE BUCKLE IS SEWN INTO THE STRAP HAVE DISINTEGRATED.

FRONT SEAT BELTS ARE JAMMING AND GETTING FOLDED AND THUS CREATING A DRIVING HAZARD. THEY BECOME STUCK AND WON'T RETRACT SOMETIMES LEAVING TOO MUCH SLACK. THEY TWIST INSIDE THE SIDE PANEL OF THE VEHICLE AND YOU HAVE TO REMOVE THE MOLDING TO RETRACT THE SEATBELT. THIS HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES WITH BOTH FRONT SEATS BOTH DRIVER AND PASSENGER. I AM JUST TAKING THE TIME TODAY TO LOG THIS COMPLAINT HOPING MAYBE THERE IS A RECALL I AM NOT AWARE OF. *TR

IN 2015 I PURCHASED MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY WITH LESS THAN 50K MILES AND THE SEAT BELTS APPEARED FINE. WITHIN A MONTH I NOTICED THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT WOULD NOT RETRACT. IT MALFUNCTIONED BOTH WHEN THE CAR WAS OFF AND ON AND REGARDLESS IF IT WAS IN ANY GEAR OR POSITION. I PAID SOMEONE TO LUBRICATE IT AND THAT FAILED TO FIX THE PROBLEM. THEN I PAID THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP ALMOST $500 TO REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELT! I HAVE OWNED A CAMRY BEFORE FOR OVER 10 YEARS AND IT NEVER HAD THIS PROBLEM. I THINK I SHOULD BE REFUNDED FOR THAT DEFECTIVE PRODUCT.

THE PASSENGER SIDE SEAT BELT HAS TWISTED ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS AND I HAVE BEEN ABLE, AFTER LOTS OF FRUSTRATION AND WORK, TO GET IT TO RETRACT.. TODAY IT TWISTED AGAIN AND I CAN'T FIX IT. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND IT IS GOING TO COST ME $540. NOT ONLY THAT BUT WE HAVE TO DELAY RETURNING TO OUR HOME FROM VACATION FOR TWO DAYS BECAUSE IT HAS TO BE ORDERED. I HAVE FOUND OUT THIS IS A CONTINUAL PROBLEM WITH 2005 CAMRY'S. IT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND I SHOULDN'T HAVE TO PAY.

I PURCHASED MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY LE IN AUGUST, 2005. AFTER ABOUT 3 YEARS, I STARTED HAVING ISSUES WITH BOTH FRONT SEATBELTS RETRACTING PROPERLY. WHEN THE SEATBELT IS INITIALLY PULLED OUT TO PUT IT ON, IT DOES NOT RETRACT TO CREATE A SNUG FIT WHILE WEARING IT. THE FABRIC PART OF THE SEATBELT FOLDS OVER AND TWISTS, PREVENTING IT FROM RETRACTING. MOST OF THE TIME IT CAN BE CORRECTED WITH A LITTLE MANIPULATION AND MUCH FRUSTRATION. BUT, THERE HAVE BEEN A FEW INCIDENTS WHERE I HAVE HAD TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC TO FIX IT. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP WHERE I PURCHASED THE CAR AND WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A VERY COMMON COMPLAINT FOR MY SPECIFIC YEAR, MAKE, & MODEL AND THEY SAID IT WOULD COST BETWEEN $300-$400 PER SEATBELT TO REPLACE THE PARTS OR I COULD JUST WAIT FOR TOYOTA TO ISSUE A RECALL. THAT WAS 4 YEARS AGO AND THERE HAS NOT BEEN A RECALL FOR THE PROBLEM. I THINK IT'S RIDICULOUS THAT THERE SEEMS TO BE AN OBVIOUS DEFECT IN THE SEATBELTS ON THIS CAR, BASED ON THE # OF COMPLAINTS I'VE READ ON NUMEROUS WEBSITES REGARDING THIS EXACT ISSUE. I JUST HOPE TOYOTA IS NOT WAITING FOR A SERIOUS INJURY OR A FATALITY TO HAPPEN BEFORE THEY ISSUE A RECALL. I WOULD LIKE TO GET A NEWER CAR BUT I WOULD NEED TO SELL THIS ONE FIRST IN ORDER TO BE ABLE TO AFFORD IT. HOWEVER, I DON'T FEEL COMFORTABLE SELLING MY CAR TO ANYONE WITH SUCH A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE PRESENT. I DON'T NEED OR WANT THAT KIND OF KARMA. *TR

PURCHASED THIS CAR IN JULY AND FROM THE DAY AFTER WE BOUGHT THIS CAR HAVE EXPERIENCE PROBLEMS WITH THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE SEATBELT WHEN PULLED OUR FOR LARGER PEOPLE TO BUCKLE THE SEAT BELT FOLDS OR ROLLS OVER BINDING THE SEAT BELT LOCK AND NOT ALLOWING THE SEAT BELT TO FUNCTION PROPERLY. WITH SOME MANIPULATION YOU CAN GET THE SEAT BELT TO RELEASE BUT THE NEXT TIME THE LARGER PERSON ATTEMPTS TO PUT THE SEAT BELT ON THE SEAT IS AGAIN FOLDED OVER AND DOES NOT LOCK PROPERLY. I HAVE SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS ON THIS SITE AS WELL AS TOOK IT IN FOR ALTERNATE WORK IN WHICH I HEARD SOMEONE HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM SO SEVERE THAT THEY WERE NOT ABLE TO GET THE SEAT BELT TO LOCK ANY FURTHER. SAME YEAR MAKE AND MODEL AS MY VEHICLE. I HAVE ALWAYS LOVED TOYOTAS BUT AM SERIOUSLY QUESTIONING THE REPUTATION OF THIS 2005 CAMRY. *TR

MY 2005 TOYOTA CAMRY HAS CAUSED ME A LOT OF FRUSTRATION SOON AFTER I BOUGHT IT. THE DEALERS HAVE OFFERED TO REPLACE IT AT A HIGH COST (FOR ME AT LEAST). HAVING READ NUMEROUS REPORTS THIS APPEARS TO BE A DEFECTIVE DESIGN AND SHOULD BE REPAIRED GRATIS. IT TAKES ME A LOT OF TIME TO UNSTICK IT AS I WON'T LET ANYONE RIDE WITHOUT IT OPERATING PROPERLY. IT TWISTS OR FOLDS UNDER TOWARDS THE REAR OF THE SLOT AND AS YOU ARE PULLING IT OUT TO PUT IT ON IT JAMS IN THERE HARD. PLEASE TELL ME A COMPANY WITH THE REPUTATION (FOR THE MOST PART) LIKE TOYOTA CAN TAKE CARE OF IT'S CUSTOMERS SADDLED WITH DEFECTIVE PARTS WITHOUT CHARGING AN ARM AND A LEG FOR SOMETHING THAT IS TOYOTA'S FAULT. THE DRIVER'S SEAT BELT STOPPED RETRACTING AND DOES NOT HAVE THE "G" FORCE NECESSARY TO PROTECT FROM HITTING THE STEERING WHEEL IN CASE OF AN ACCIDENT. I HAD THE BELT UNTANGLED WHILE RECEIVING MAINTENANCE AT THE DEALERSHIP IN JUNE, BUT IN 2 DAYS THE BELT TWISTED UP AGAIN AND STILL DOES NOT RETRACT. I TRIED TO DISCUSS THE SITUATION WITH THE DEALERSHIP, AND THEY TOLD ME I WOULD HAVE TO PAY ABOUT $350.00 TO GET THE UNIT REPLACED. SINCE THIS DEFECT AFFECTS MY SAFETY AND CARRIES A HIGH POTENTIAL FOR A FATALITY (NOT TO MENTION DRIVING ILLEGALLY WITH A LOOSE BELT), I FEEL TOYOTA SHOULD RECALL THIS INCIDENT AND REPLACE DEFECTIVE SEAT BELTS AT NO CHARGE. I HAVE SEEN SEVERAL WEBSITES WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS AT AUTOMOBILE.COM, ARFC.ORG, AND CAR COMPLAINTS.COM. THERE'S A 10 YEAR RUST-THRU WARRANTY ON THE BODY, WHY SHOULDN'T THERE BE A SIMILAR WARRANTY THAT AFFECTS OUR VERY SAFETY? DOES IT TAKE A FATALITY TO GET ANY RECOURSE?
