TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. WHILE DRIVING VARIOUS SPEEDS, THE SUN VISOR FELL DOWN AND OBSTRUCTED THE CONTACT'S VIEW OF THE WINDSHIELD. ADDITIONALLY, THE SUN VISOR FAILED TO SECURE IN PLACE. THERE WERE NO WARNING INDICATORS ILLUMINATED. THE DEALER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 200,000.

RE: RECALL POWER WINDOW MASTER SWITCH THIS VEHICLE IS SHOWING RECALL ITEM NOT TAKEN CARE OF. LONG AGO I CALLED THE MANUFACTURER AND THEY CONFERENCE CALLED THE DEALERSHIP REPAIR SHOP. THE SHOP KEEPS SAYING THEY ALREADY ADDRESSED THIS RECALL, BUT THE MANUFACTURER SAYS IT HAS NOT BEEN RESOLVED. THE SHOP SAYS I CAME IN ON A SELF PAY BASIS AND THEY ALREADY DID MY SAFETY RECALL BUT THE RECORDS SHOW IT WAS NEVER DONE. TO ADDRESS THIS ISSUE, THEY SHOULD JUST COMPLETE THE SERVICE, OR RE DO IT IF THAT'S THE CASE, (IF IT WAS ALREADY DONE) I HAVE NO IDEA IF ITS SAFE TO DRIVE. DRIVING ON THE FREEWAY, I PULLED MY SUN VISOR DOWN AND IT FLOPPED IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD NO CHOICE BUT TO PULL IT OFF AS IT WOULDN'T STAY IN POSITION, UP OR DOWN. I WROTE TO TOYOTA AND THEY REFUSED TO HAVE IT REPAIRED, BUT THEY OFFERED ME A $750 DISCOUNT ON MY NEXT TOYOTA PURCHASE! UNDER THE CIRCUMSTANCES, I COULD EASILY HAVE BEEN IN AN ACCIDENT AND CONSIDER THE INCIDENT A SERIOUS SAFETY HAZARD. I RESEARCHED THE PROBLEM AND FOUND THERE ARE MANY SUCH INCIDENTS. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE DRIVER AND PASSENGER SIDE SUN VISORS SEPARATED FROM THE CONNECTING METAL PIECE. THE PLASTIC ROD THAT CONNECTED TO THE METAL IN ORDER TO MAINTAIN STABILITY WAS CRACKED. THE DRIVER SIDE SUN VISOR FRACTURED ONCE AND THE PASSENGER SIDE VISOR FRACTURED TWICE. THE DEALER REPAIRED THE VEHICLE AFTER THE FIRST FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED AGAIN AFTER THE FAILURES RECURRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE VIN AND FAILURE MILEAGE WERE UNKNOWN.

ON THE FREEWAY, I PULLED MY SUN VISOR DOWN AND IT "FLOPPED" DOWN AND COULDN'T BE PUT IN EITHER THE UP OR DOWN POSITION. IN THE SITUATION I WAS IN, I HAD TO STEER WITH ONE HAND WHILE HOLDING THE VISOR UP OUT OF THE WAY SO I COULD SEE. I SENSED THIS WAS NOT A SAFE THING TO DO SO I JUST PULLED THE VISOR OFF COMPLETELY. I'D HAD A LITTLE DIFFICULTY WITH IT NOT STAYING IN POSITION BEFORE BUT THIS WAS MUCH WORSE. I ASKED TOYOTA TO FIX IT, BUT INSTEAD THEY OFFERED ME A $750 DISCOUNT ON MY NEXT PURCHASE!!! I TOLD THEM THAT ONE HAD NOTHING TO DO WITH THE OTHER. I ALSO ASKED THEM TO CHECK ON LINE WITH IPETITIONS THAT HAD 527 SIGNATURES WITH THE SAME ISSUE. *TR

I RECENTLY PURCHASED A 2008 TOYOTA CAMRY HYBRID AND FOUND THAT THE SUN VISOR WAS ROTATED DOWNWARD AND WOULD NOT GO BACK TO ITS ORIGINAL POSITION. I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN IRVINE, CA AND WAS TOLD THAT THE SUN VISOR ASSEMBLY AND SUN VISOR BRACKET HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY ON CERTAIN 2007-2011 MODELS AND THAT MY MODEL WAS ON THE LIST. HOWEVER, WHEN I CAME TO PICK UP THE CAR I WAS TOLD THAT IT WAS NOT COVERED BECAUSE THE CAR VIN SHOWS THAT THE CAR WAS MADE IN JAPAN AND THAT THE EXTENDED WARRANTY IS ONLY APPLICABLE TO CARS FROM THE UNITED STATES. THE SUN VISOR NOT ROTATING BACK TO ITS RIGHT POSITION IS A SAFETY HAZARD AS I CANNOT FULLY SEE AHEAD WHILE DRIVING AND DO NOT HAVE A CLEAR VIEW. IF THERE IS ALREADY A RECALL ON THIS SPECIFIC PART FOR THESE SPECIFIC CARS AND THE PRODUCT IS MADE BY TOYOTA IT SHOULD BE COVERED NO MATTER WHERE THE CAR WAS MADE. THE ORIGINAL OWNER OF THE CAR PURCHASED THE VEHICLE AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP IN SAN JUAN CAPISTRANO, CALIFORNIA, NOT IN JAPAN. *TR

AFTER 95,000 MILES OF USAGE THE SUN VISOR HAS DECIDED TO COME APART AND I'M NO LONGER ABLE TO USE IT TO BLOCK THE SUN OR STORE IT IN A SAFE MANNER. EVERY PASSING DAY IT SEEMS THE VISOR GETS LOWER AND LOWER UNTIL I CAN NO LONGER SEE THE ROAD CORRECTLY. I ALMOST HAVE TO DRIVE HOLDING THE SUN VISOR UP. THERE IS A GROWING TREND ON THE INTERNET OF 2008/2009 CAMRYS WITH FAULTY SUN VISORS. THEY FAIL WITHOUT WARNING, AND BLOCK THE DRIVER'S ABILITY TO SEE. THIS HAPPENS ON BOTH FREQUENTLY USED, AND INFREQUENTLY USED VISORS. OUR PASSENGER SIDE VISOR FAILED FIRST, JUST OUTSIDE THE BUMPER TO BUMPER WARRANTY. THIS VISOR WAS HARDLY EVER USED AS MY WIFE DRIVES THE CAR, AND RARELY HAS FRONT SEAT PASSENGERS. EXTENDED WARRANTY REFUSED TO COVER IT (IT'S CONSIDERED TRIM). 6 MONTHS LATER, THE DRIVER'S SIDE FAILED. NOW, MY PASSENGER SIDE VISOR HAS FAILED AGAIN (MARCH 2012). BOTH ORIGINAL REPLACEMENTS WERE NEW, FROM THE DEALER. THE PARTS GUY AT ONE OF THE LOCAL DEALERSHIPS TOLD ME THEY SEE QUITE A FEW CAMRYS WITH BROKEN OR MISSING VISORS. WHILE ADJUSTING THE DRIVER'S SIDE SUN VISOR THE VISOR BROKE AND WOULD NO LONGER STAY UP IN EITHER POSITION. IT JUST DANGLED DOWN AND SEVERELY RESTRICTED THE DRIVER'S VISION. THERE WAS NO WAY TO TEMPORARILY FIX THE VISOR TO MAKE THE CAR SAFE FOR THE REMAINDER OF THE TRIP, AND REPAIR NECESSITATED REPLACING THE ENTIRE VISOR AT A COST OF $140. THIS IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH CAMRYS AND THE REPAIR COST COULD DETER PEOPLE FROM REPLACING THE VISOR, RESULTING IN A DANGEROUS SITUATION, AS VISIBILITY IS VERY POOR WITH THE VISOR DANGLING DOWN IN FRONT OF THE DRIVER. *TR
