P225/60R17 98T: Tires create vibrations in the steering column. One tire in particular creates severe vibrations that mechanic states could lead to problems with the steering components. Coordinated w/ Sandy Boulevard Line up shop and one tire could not be aligned due to defect. 2004 Sienna van (140,900 odometer miles) is equipped with Toyo Observe GSi-5 195/65R15 91T (separate 16" rims purchased from Les Schwab) and there is no vibration at all. Les Schwab last tried to "balance" the defective tire in 2019. I have about the 4rth appointment Aug 21 2021 @ 9AM. I will also take the 2004 Sienna van to Japanese Auto repair (web site and e-mail above). to look for any defects. I probably need to put the Winter Observe GSi-5 tires on the car for safety, but they wear out quickly on summer hot roads.
INSIDE OF SIDEWALL CRACKING, APPEARS DRY ROT POWDER RESIDUE FROM TIRE IN TRUNK AFTER REPLACING. PURCHASE AUGUST 22, 2013, SHOWN AS 90,000 MILE TIRE WHEN PURCHASED. FAILED 8-20-2016 DRIVEN APPROX. 40,489 MILES. LOOKS LIKE SIDING SEPARATED.. MULTIPLE HOLES AND SPLITS LOOKS SHREDDED. . NO APPEARANCE OF PROBLEMS ON OUTSIDE OF TIRE. CONSIDERED LUCKY TIRE FAILURE DID NOT CAUSE ACCIDENT HAVE PICTURES...
ON JUNE 17, 2016, I GOT INTO MY 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA XLE-IMS RAMPVAN (JOINT TOYOTA-IMS, FLOOR-LOWERED WHEELCHAIR VAN CONVERSION WITH RAMP). THERE WAS DEBRIS ON THE BACK SEAT (WHAT IN A NON-IMS SIENNA BE THE THIRD-ROW SEAT). I SAW TIRE BELTS STICKING UP FROM THE TREAD OF THE SPARE TIRE. THE TIRE HAD EXPLODED AND DEFLATED, STREWING DEBRIS FROM THE RUPTURED TIRE BELTS AND TREAD ON THE BACK SEAT. NOTE THAT IN THE IMS VERSION OF THE SIENNA, THE SPARE TIRE IS MOUNTED ON A BRACKET BEHIND THE BACK SEAT. THANKFULLY, NO ONE HAD BEEN IN THE VAN AT TIME OF EXPLOSION. THE RUPTURE OF THE TIRE COULD HAVE BEEN BEHIND THE HEAD OR NECK OF A PASSENGER SITTING IN THE LEFT-REAR POSITION. THE EXPLODED SPARE TIRE IS A FIRESTONE RADIAL TEMPA SPARE, T155/80R17 101M. IT IS THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE AND WAS INFLATED TO THE SPECIFIED 60 PSI. I STILL HAVE THE EXPLODED TIRE, WHICH I HAD DISMOUNTED AND REPLACED. I ALSO HAVE PHOTOS OF THE RUPTURED TIRED WHILE IT WAS STILL MOUNTED TO ITS BRACKET BEHIND THE BACK SEAT.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA WITH DUNLOP RUN FLAT TIRES, SIZE 225/60/17, DOT NUMBER 3T6R2508. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING 55 MPH WHEN THE FRONT AND REAR PASSENGER TIRES BLEW. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WERE ABNORMAL BUBBLES IN THE TIRES. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT ALL OF THE TIRES NEEDED REPLACING. THE TIRES WERE REPLACED. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000.
TIRE DOES NOT HOLD AIR OVER TIME. *TR
I PURCHASED A 2004 SIENNA BRAND NEW IN 2004. TOYOTA ENGINEERED THE 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA W/ DUNLOP RUN FLAT TIRES. AS SUCH THEY DESIGNED NO SPACE FOR A SPARE OR A JACK. INCLUDING 4 TIRES THAT WERE REPLACED AS PART OF A RECALL I HAVE REPLACED A TOTAL OF 13 TIRES IN 6 YEARS. THESE TIRES COST ALMOST $300 TO REPLACE. THE LOW TIRE PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT HAS NEVER LIT UP, TOYOTA TESTED IT AND STATED IT WORKS BUT HAVE NO IDEA WHY IT DOES NOT LIGHT UP WHEN THE TIRE GOES FLAT. TOYOTA TAKES NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR DESIGN CHOICE IN ANY WAY. I HAVE REQUESTED EVERYTHING FROM PARTIAL REIMBURSEMENT TO A FULL SET OF REGULAR TIRES WITH A SPARE AND A JACK. ALL REQUESTS HAVE BEEN REFUSED. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA. WHILE DRIVING AT SPEEDS OF 20 MPH OVER A SPEED BUMP, THE SPARE TIRE FELL OFF FROM THE BOTTOM OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE UNKNOWN REPAIRS WERE MADE TO THE VEHICLE. THE FAILURE DID NOT RECUR. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 41,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 97,000.
ON NOVEMBER 30, 2009, I GOT A FLAT TIRE, AND CALLED AAA TO PUT ON THE SPARE. WHEN THEY ARRIVED AND LOOKED UNDER MY CAR, THEY DISCOVERED THAT I NO LONGER HAD A SPARE TIRE! IT HAD APPARENTLY FALLEN OFF AT SOME POINT PREVIOUSLY. I THINK IT MAY HAVE FALLEN OFF IN LATE SEPTEMBER OF 2009, AS I DID NOTICE SOMETHING BUMPING AROUND UNDER THE CAR ON A TRIP ON THE HIGHWAY. *TR

2004 TOYOTA SIENNA, HYDROPLANED AND SPUN AROUND TRAVELED OFF THE LEFT SIDE OF THE ROADWAY AND STRUCK THE CONCRETE WALL. THE VEHICLE THEN TRAVELED BACK ACROSS THE ROADWAY AND CAME TO REST ON THE NORTH BERM. BF ACCORDING TO THE POLICE REPORT, THE FRONT TIRES WERE IN EXCELLENT CONDITION, BUT THE REAR TIRES HAD VERY LOW TREAD. (OHIO TRAFFIC REPORT # 10-0588-90) *JB
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SPARE TIRE UNEXPECTEDLY FELL OFF OF THE VEHICLE WHILE DRIVING 10 MPH. THE TIRE HAD NEVER BEEN USED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION, BUT THEY DID NOT EXPLAIN THE REASON BEHIND THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 94,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2004 TOYOTA SIENNA. THE TPMS DOES NOT ALERT HIM WHEN THE TIRES HAVE LOW PRESSURE OR IF THEY ARE ABOUT TO FAIL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER FOR INSPECTION. THE TECHNICIAN COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE FAILURE,THEREFORE THEY COULD NOT PROVIDE A REMEDY. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED, BUT NO ASSISTANCE WAS PROVIDED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 60,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 69,000. UPDATED 10/23/09 *CN THE CONSUMER STATED THE TIRE PRESSURE WARNING SYSTEM DID NOT ALERT THEM THAT THERE WAS A TIRE FAILURE. THE TIRE SHREDDED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH. THE SECOND OCCURRENCE, THE CONSUMER RAN OVER AN OBJECT IN THE ROAD, AND ONCE AGAIN THE TIRE PRESSURE SYSTEM DIDN'T DETECT A FAILURE. UPDATED 10/27/09.*JB

FROM THE TIME WE PURCHASED THE CAR WE HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH OUR BRIDGESTONE RUN FLAT TIRES. THE SENSOR ON THE DASHBOARD WAS CONSTANTLY ON, SO WE HAD TO CHECK THE TIRE PRESSURE EVERY WEEK- WHAT A PAIN! THE DEALER WAS NO HELP, THEY AGREED THAT THEY HAVE HAD MANY PROBLEMS WITH THE TIRES. WE FINALLY DECIDED TO REPLACE THEM WITH STANDARD TIRES AND I DRIVE WITHOUT A SPARE. I FIGURE I'LL CALL AAA IF I HAVE A PROBLEM. *TR
HAD TO REPLACE COMPLETE SET TWICE OF RUN FLAT TIRES ON VEHICLE WITHIN THREE YEARS OF NEW PURCHASE ALTHOUGH HAVE UNDER 30,000. *TR
TOYOTA PRE-2007 TPMS (TIRE PRESSURE MONITORING SYSTEM) DESIGN FLAW. IT ONLY WORKS WHEN YOU "SUDDENLY LOSE PRESSURE" WHILE VEHICLE IS MOVING ABOVE 20 MPH. IT DOES NOT DETECT TIRE PRESSURE LOSS ANY OTHER TIME, EVEN IF ONE TIRE IS AT ZERO PSI AND YOU START DRIVING, OR IF YOU HIT A NAIL AT A RED LIGHT AND TIRE PRESSURE WENT TO ZERO BEFORE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN WHEN YOU START MOVING AGAIN. COMPOUNDED WITH RUN-FLAT TIRES, THE DRIVER MAY NEVER KNOW THEY HAVE A FLAT UNTIL THE TIRE EXPLODES. *TR
