Frame rusting from inside out. Vehicle has been in same family since purchased new in 2000 and no recall notice was ever received. Rest of vehicle is in GREAT shape.
IN MA YOU NEED TO HAVE AN ANNUAL VEHICLE INSPECTION. I WENT FOR THAT INSPECTION AND WAS TOLD THAT THEY COULD NOT PASS THE TRUCK BECAUSE OF A SEVERELY RUSTED FRAME. I WENT TO THE DEALER WHO SOLD ME THE VEHICLE AND WAS TOLD TO EITHER AGREE TO PAY FOR A FRAME REPLACEMENT OR JUNK THE TRUCK. I CAN'T DRIVE THE VEHICLE WITHOUT A VALID INSPECTION.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING AT APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH, THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED BUT THE VEHICLE FAILED TO ACCELERATE WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE LEAF SPRING FELL INTO THE FRAME AND PUNCTURED THE FUEL TANK. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 160,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE REAR FRAME OF THE VEHICLE WAS CORRODED NEAR THE LEAF SPRINGS. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 140,000.

THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 50 MPH AND MAKING A LEFT TURN, THE REAR PASSENGER SIDE LEAF SPRING FRACTURED CAUSING THE CONTACT TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE CONTACTS RESIDENCE WHERE A PRIVATE MECHANIC DIAGNOSED THAT THE REAR PASSENGER LEAF SPRING AND SHOCKS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 220,000.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 55 MPH, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE WHEEL SUDDENLY FELL OFF THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT LOST CONTROL OF THE VEHICLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO SAFELY PULL OFF THE ROAD. UPON INSPECTION, SHE NOTICED THAT THE UPPER BALL JOINTS FAILED. THE DEALER STATED THAT THE BALL JOINTS NEEDED TO BE REPLACED AT THE CONTACT'S EXPENSE BECAUSE THERE WAS NO RECALL FOR THAT COMPONENT. THE MANUFACTURER DID NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 133,000.
JUST NORMAL DRIVING NOTHING HEAVY IN THE BACK OF THE TRUCK. HAD TO REPLACE THE LEAF SPRINGS. HAS HAPPENED 3 TIMES. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 TOYOTA TACOMA. WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH THE BALL JOINTS FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE DRIVER SIDE WHEEL TO COLLAPSE. THERE WAS A LOSS OF POWER STEERING AND BRAKES. THE ROAD CONDITIONS WERE CLEAR. THE CURRENT AND FAILURE MILEAGES WERE 90,000.
LARGE RUST HOLES IN RIGHT FRAME RAIL IN FRONT OF LEAF SPRING. *AK
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WITHOUT WARNING WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE PASSENGER SIDE TIRE SEPERATED FROM THE VEHICLE. IT WAS TOWED TO THE DEALERSHIP WHICH DETERMINED THE LOWER BALL JOINT WAS SHATTERED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED AND THERE HAVE BEEN NO FURTHER PROBLEMS. UPDATED 04/11/06. *JB

CONSTANT VIBRATION AND BOUNCING MAKES VEHICLE DIFFICULT TO CONTROL AT HIGHWAY SPEEDS AND IS A CONSTANT ANNOYANCE BELOW THAT . WHEELS SWAPPED, ALIGNMENT DONE, BUT PROBLEMS PERSISTS . *AK
TOYOTA STATES IT'S GOODYEARS' PROBLEM AND GOODYEAR STATES IT'S TOYOTA'S PROBLEM. I FEEL LIKE A YOYO. MY PROBLEM STARTS AT 60MPH WHERE THERE IS A VIBRATION ON THE FRONT END. THE VIBRATION GETS WORSE AT 75 AND THEN SMOOTHS OUT AROUND 83. I TOOK THE TRUCK TO COBB COUNTY TOYOTA ,AND JESSE, A SERVICE ADVISOR, TOLD ME THAT MY TIRE WAS 42LBS. OF ROAD FORCE - - - WAY OUT OF SPECS...... NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. JESSE ADVISED ME TO NOTIFY A GOODYEAR TIRE STORE BECAUSE IT IS THEIR RESPONSIBILITY. SO I NOTIFIED TIREQUEST GOODYEAR TIRE STORE IN CARTSVILLE GA. KALVIN, STORE MANAGER, SAID THAT IS A DEALER (TOYOTA) PROBLEM. TIREQUEST BALANCED THE TIRE THE BEST THEY COULD. I CONTINUED TO HAVE THE SAME PROBLEM. ON 4/21/2000 I CALLED GOODYEARS 1-800-321-2136 CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE , REF#3888832, SUSAN. SHE CALLED A GOODYEAR DEALER IN DALTON AND TALKED WITH MATT ACKLEN STORE MANAGER AT GOODYEAR BRYMAN'S PLAZA NORTH. HE WAS VERY HELPFUL AND TOLD ME THE WHEEL WAS THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEM NOT THE TIRE. I WENT BACK TO TOYOTA ON 4/21/2000 AND JESSE STATED IT WAS THE TIRE AND GOODYEAR SHOULD STAND BEHIND THEIR PRODUCT. I HAVE GOTTEN NOWHERE WITH EITHER COMPANY AND AM VERY FRUSTRATED. I HAVE SPENT OVER $70 ON BALANCE AND FRONT END ALIGNMENT PLUS TRAVEL AND TIME. FURTHERMORE I'M BACK WHERE I STARTED. BOTH COMPANIES ARE STATING THAT THEY HAVE SEEN THE PROBLEM BEFORE AND THAT IT IS A DEFECT IN THE OTHER COMPANIES PRODUCT. I DO NOT KNOW WHO TO BELIEVE BUT I WOULD LIKE TO RESOLVE THIS. WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY THE TRUCK STARTED TO SWAY FROM SIDE TO SIDE. VEHICLE HAD 800 POUNDS OF EMPTY CABINETS NOT EXCEEDING 57 INCHES, NOR ANY WEIGHT FACTOR OVERLOAD ON TRUCK. *AK *MJS
NUT ON LEFT FRONT BALL JOINT BECAME DETACHED WHILE VEHICLE WAS IN MOTION, CAUSING LEFT FRONT AXLE ASSEMBLY TO STRIKE & DRAG ON ROAD SURFACE.
WHEN DRIVING FROM 35 TO 65MPH THE STEERING WHEEL VIBRATES, MAKING IT HARD TO CONTROL THE STEERING. VEHICLE HAS BEEN LOOKED AT 3 TIMES, STILL NO SOLUTION. TIRES HAVE BEEN CHANGED 5 TIMES.
