I took my 2006 Toyota Tacoma ext cab 4x4 v6 to have diagnostic run on it . "EXACT PERFORMANCE " Johnson drive . KCK The differential was shot . However , that was not the final . They did not do full diagnostic . They informed me that my frame was rotted and rusted through and would not last till spring and was a safety hazard. That was Dec. 2024 . The truck has been parked since . Ive had no transportation and can not run right out and buy another truck . I am also not willing to give up the truck either . I have put a lot of hard earned money into this truck believing it to last forever . The motor and train are sound . I do not want to junk the truck . Please , tell me what I can do . Yes . My vehicle is available for inspection upon request.
This truck is for sale in Oregon with HOLES/RUST on the frame and the frame mount. It is being sold with a clean title which clearly with the frame damage it is considered a branded title. The car lot that is selling the truck will no disclose the frame issue when asked about the structure damage on the truck. BUYERS BEWARE!!!

The contact stated that after the vehicle was taken to a local dealer for unrelated repairs, the mechanic determined that the rear subframe needed to be replaced. The contact was made aware of NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (Suspension); however, the VIN was not included in the recall. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 178,000. The VIN was not available.
The contact owns a 2006 Toyota Tacoma. The contact stated that his father had taken the vehicle to a dealer to have NHTSA Campaign Number: 14V604000 (Suspension) serviced. Upon inspection, his father was informed that the recall could not be performed due to the extensive corrosion on the frame of the vehicle. He was also informed that the vehicle was unsafe to drive and was given an estimate of $16,000 for the repair. The manufacturer was then notified of the failure and offered no assistance. The vehicle had yet to be repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 128,000.
My frame rusted and broke into where spring hanger bolts to the frame. They are saying n was recalled but time has ran out but I did not receive a recall notice as we moved to another area of the state ( Ashtabula) where we bought a shop for our oilfield business then we moved to ( Cambridge ) and are now renting our first home from my daughter who bought it in New Concord. Sad thing is we had it to repair shop and had new steering, power steering pump, new front axles and no one said hey you should look at this frame it is rotten and I have a picture I can send you if you'd like.So it is totally broke into and the spring hanger is not attached and pushed the bed up and the driver nearly wrecked and we had to haul it back on a trailer.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE TECHNICIAN ALSO INFORMED THE CONTACT ABOUT AN UNKNOWN FRAME RECALL THAT HAD EXPIRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE BUT, OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. WHEN INSPECTING THE LEAF SPRING REPLACEMENT FROM A RECALL, FOUND THE FRAME CORRODED TO THE POINT THAT IT WILL FAIL. (SEE PHOTO). TOYOTA HAD A RECALL ON THESE FRAMES AND THIS TRUCK FELL UNDER THE GUIDELINES.WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA THEY SAID THIS WAS AN EXTENDED WARRANTY AND HAD EXPIRED.SAID THEY SENT NOTIFICATION WHICH I NEVER RECEIVED. *TR

PRIOR TO THE NOISE, THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED PER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER RECALL PERTAINING TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT WAS UNCERTAIN IF THE RECALL REPAIR CAUSED THE SUSPENSION NOISE. THE CONTACTED MENTIONED THAT THE MANUFACTURER INFORMED HIM THAT AN ADDITIONAL CAMPAIGN OR RECALL WOULD BE ISSUED IN THE FUTURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 85,000.

GOT RECALL NOTICE IN DECEMBER OF 2014 FOR DEFECTIVE REAR LEAF SPRINGS. ALSO GOT NOTICE IN DECEMBER OF 2014 OF SERVICE CAMPAIGN TO FIX CORROSION ON FRAME OF VEHICLE. CALLED DEALER WAS TOLD TO COME IN FOR INSPECTION. DEALER DETERMINED THAT MY FRAME WAS IN VERY BAD CONDITION CORROSION AND RUST AND THAT I WOULD NEED TO HAVE THE FRAME REPLACED. SAID THEY WOULD FIX AND REPLACE THE REAR LEAF SRINGS AT THE SAME TIME THEY REPLACE FRAME THIS INSPECTION TOOK PLACE ON WED JANUARY 14TH 2015.MY TRUCK HAS VERY LOW MILEAGE ITS A 2006 AND I HAVE ONLY 60,000 MILES ON IT. AFTER WAITING MONTHS TO HEAR FROM DEALER I CALLED TOYOTA, THEY TOLD ME IN APRIL THAT THEY WER STILL WAITING FOR PARTS. I FILED A CASE NUMBER WITH TOYOTA, CALLED THEM BACK ON JUNE 15TH 2015 AFTER HEARING NOTHING FROM THEM. NOW ON JUNE 15TH 2015 THEY TELL ME THEY ARE STILL WAITING FOR PARTS. MEANWHILE THE SAFETY RECALL SAYS THAT THE REAR LEAF SPRING COULD SNAP AND RUPTURE MY GAS TANK. I NEED HELP WITH THIS

THE CONSUMER STATED WHILE DRIVING, HE HEARD A LOUD NOISE COMING FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. HE DISCOVERED THE HEAT SHIELD WAS LOOSE, DUE TO THE RUSTING THE PROBLEM. I DISCOVERED THAT THE FRAME ON MY TOYOTA TRUCK IS EXCESSIVELY RUSTED. IT IS ACTUALLY QUITE UNBELIEVABLE WHEN YOU COMPARE THE FRAME TO EVERYTHING ELSE ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE TRUCK. EVERY OTHER COMPONENT ON THE UNDERSIDE IS IN PRISTINE CONDITION BUT THERE IS HARDLY AN AREA OF THE FRAME THAT IS NOT RUSTED. THERE ARE SOME AREAS THAT HAVE THE CLASSIC "POTATO CHIP" SCALING THAT HAS EATEN THROUGH ABOUT 1/2 THE ORIGINAL THICKNESS OF THE METAL. THE RUST APPEARS ON BOTH FLAT SURFACES AND WELDS. A QUICK INTERNET SEARCH REVEALED THERE SEEMS TO BE HUNDREDS OF OTHERS WITH SIMILAR COMPLAINTS---MANY ARE EVEN NEWER, LOW MILEAGE SUNBELT TRUCKS. I GUESS IT'S OBVIOUS TOYOTA NEVER ADDRESSED THE ROOT CAUSE OF THEIR FRAME ISSUES THAT PROMPTED THE PREVIOUS RECALL ON THE 95-04 MODELS. I SURMISE THAT ROOT CAUSE IS USING CHEAP, INFERIOR, RECYCLED METAL TO SAVE MONEY. BTW, MY PREVIOUS TRUCK WAS A 1990 TOYOTA THAT I DROVE UNTIL THE BODY FELL OFF IN 2009. AFTER 19 YEARS (THAT'S 19 PENNSYLVANIA WINTERS), THAT FRAME WAS SPOTLESS WITH MOST OF THE ORIGINAL PAINT STILL REMAINING. IN EVERY OTHER RESPECT, I LOVE THIS TRUCK. HOWEVER, THIS FRAME RUST ISSUE IS A CONTINUING TOYOTA SAFETY PROBLEM --- NOT TO MENTION THE FINANCIAL ASPECT AS MY TRUCK WILL BE DEAD LONG BEFORE IT'S TIME. THIS IS A KNOWN FRAME RUSTING PROBLEM THAT TOYOTA HAS NOT ADDRESSED PROPERLY. I TOOK MY 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA TO THE SERVICE DEALER AND THEY SPRAYED AN ANTI RUST COMPOUND ON IT. THE PROBLEM IS THAT THE FRAME IS TOTALLY RUSTED OUT AND IS GOING TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE LATER DOWN THE ROAD. TOYOTA REACHED A SETTLEMENT WITH THE FRAME MANUFACTURER, THEY DID NOT PROPERLY COAT THE FRAME AT TIME OF MANUFACTURE. THERE IS NOT A WARRANTY ON THE CORROSION COMPOUND AFTER THE CORROSION CAMPAIGN IS OVER IN MARCH OF 2016. THIS LEAVES THE CONSUMER WITH A TRUCK THAT IS NOT ROAD WORTHY. I REPLACED THE RELEASE BEARING IN MY TRANSMISSION, WHILE WORKING ON IT RUST WAS LITERALLY FALLING IN MY EYES DUE TO THE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME. I HAVE NEVER SEEN A FRAME RUST OUT SO QUICKLY AND AM VERY DISAPPOINTED THAT TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS AN ISSUE BUT IS COVERING IT UP WITH A THICK TAR LIKE SUBSTANCE TO "REMEDY" THE PROBLEM. THIS IS JUST COVERING UP A DOWN THE ROAD SAFETY ISSUE THAT SHOULD BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA IMMEDIATELY BY REPLACING THE FRAME. 1995 THROUGH 2000 TACOMA TRUCKS WERE BOUGHT BACK. 2001 THROUGH 2004 RECEIVED ANTI CORROSION COMPOUND AND OR FRAME REPLACEMENT. THE DIFFERENCE IS THAT THOSE TRUCKS THAT RECEIVED THE COMPOUND RECEIVED A 15 YEAR EXTENDED WARRANTY IF THE FRAME WERE TO FAIL INSPECTION DOWN THE ROAD. NOT THE CASE WITH THE 2005 AND UP TACOMAS. *TR
I OWN A 2006 TOYOTA TACOMA PRERUNNER, PURCHASED NEW FROM THE DEALER EIGHT YEARS AGO. IN LESS THAN SIX YEARS, THE CARS FRAME STARTED SHOWING DAMAGES AND TODAY IT SHOWS SEVERE RUST AND FLAKING. THE SEVERE RUST UNDER THE CAR IS WIDESPREAD AND IN CERTAIN AREAS THERE ARE PERFORATIONS THROUGH THE FRAME STRUCTURE. (SEE PICTURES ATTACHED). BECAUSE OF THIS UNEXPECTED CONDITION MY TACOMA HAS LOST CONSIDERABLE RESALE VALUE AND IS RESTING IN MY DRIVEWAY FOR FEAR OF FURTHER DAMAGE AND SAFETY ISSUES. (I HAVE TWO SMALL CHILDREN). AFTER SOME RESEARCH I BECAME AWARE THAT TOYOTA HAS ACKNOWLEDGED THAT THIS EXCESSIVE RUSTING IS DUE TO A MANUFACTURING DEFECT AND ADDRESSED THE PROBLEM FOR SOME VEHICLE OWNERS BY EITHER REPLACING THE FRAME AT NO COST FOR THE OWNERS OR BUYING THE VEHICLES BACK. I TOOK THE CAR TO THE TOYOTA DEALER TO HAVE IT ASSESSED AND AFTER A FULL INSPECTION, THE TRUCK FAILED THE RUST FRAME INSPECTION. THE TOYOTA DEALER REPORT STATES AS FOLLOWS: ?FRAME WAS FOUND TO HAVE SEVERE CORROSION. FRAME NEED TO BE REPLACED? WITH AND ROUGH ESTIMATE COST OF $ 10,000.00. I CONSIDER THIS DEFECT TO BE A SERIOUS AND UNACCEPTABLE CONDITION FOR A 8 YEAR-OLD VEHICLE WITH TOYOTA?S REPUTATION. I HAVE INVESTED AND TRUSTED THE TOYOTA BRAND FOR OVER 20 YEARS AND FEEL VERY DISAPPOINTED AT HOW TOYOTA IS ADDRESSING MY CONCERNS. I AM ASKING YOUR TOYOTA CORPORATION TO TAKE MY CONCERNS SERIOUSLY AND TO ADDRESS THIS SEVERE RUST ISSUE THE SAME WAY YOU HAVE DONE WITH 1995-2000 TACOMA OWNERS, EITHER BY REPLACING MY FRAME AT NO COST OR BUYING BACK MY VEHICLE. *TR
WE LEFT OUR TRUCK AT A TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR REPAIR OF RATTLE IN FRONT END, STATE INSPECTION AND OIL CHANGE. THE VEHICLE WAS RETURNED TO US WITHOUT REPAIR AS THERE IS AN ABNORMAL AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND HOLES THROUGH THE FRAME. WE WERE INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WILL NOT PASS INSPECTION. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WAS INFORMED THAT OUR VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE PREVIOUS RECALL, BUT MAY BE INCLUDED IN THE UPCOMING RECALL. HOWEVER, I WAS NOT PROVIDED WITH A TIME FRAME AND IF OUR VEHICLE IS DEFINITELY INCLUDED. MY HUSBAND USES THIS VEHICLE TO COMMUTE TO AND FROM WORK DAILY AND I FEAR FOR HIS SAFETY. *TR
I HAD MY TRUCK INSPECTED BY TOYOTA OF BRISTOL FOR FRAME RUST. AT THAT TIME THEY SAID IT WAS SURFACE RUST AND TOYOTA WOULD NOT DO ANY THING ABOUT IT EVEN THOUGH IT WAS STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE TRUCK HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT THAT I CAN NOT DRIVE IT AND IT ONLY HAS 63500 MILES ON IT. THE SPRING SHACKLES ON THE REAR OF THE TRUCK HAVE COMPLETELY RUSTED AWAY LEAVING THE REAR END OF THE TRUCK ALMOST COMPLETELY UNATTACHED TO THE TRUCK FRAME.
