VEHICLE AVAILABLE FOR INSPECTION UPON REQUEST. TRUCK FRAME LOCATED BEHIND FRONT PASSENGER SIDE WHEEL HAS RUSTED AND DETERIORATED. THERE ARE VISIBLE PORTIONS OF THE FRAME COMPLETELY GONE. ADDITIONALLY, THE MAIN FRAME CLOSEST TO PASSENGER DOOR. METAL IS LITERALLY FALLING OFF IN MY HANDS WHEN TRYING TO DETERMINE EXTENT OF DAMAGE. THERE IS VERY LITTLE METAL CONNECTING THIS PORTION OF THE FRAME. IT'S UNSAFE TO DRIVE. PLEASE ADVISE ASAP.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE SHIFT INTERLOCK CONTROL UNIT FAILED WHILE PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE. THERE WAS NO WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE GEAR SHIFTER CEASED IN PARK. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND THE CONTACT WAS PROVIDED AN ESTIMATE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 168,287.
THE U JOINTS ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA DETERIORATED TO THE POINT IN WHICH I WAS FORCED TO REPLACE THEM, MULTIPLE TIMES. THIS ISSUE WITH THE U-JOINTS HAS NOW LED TO AN INCREASE DETERIORATION IN MY DRIVE SHAFT AS WELL. RECENTLY, I RECEIVED A LETTER FROM THE MANUFACTURER STATING THERE WAS A RECENT RECALL ON THE ABOVE DESCRIBED U-JOINTS. UPON TAKING MY VEHICLE TO THE DEALERSHIP THEY TOLD ME SEVERAL DIFFERENT STORIES. IN THE BEGINNING, MY DRIVE SHAFT WAS SUPPOSEDLY JUST FINE AND IN NEED OF NO REPAIRS; THEY INFORMED ME THAT THEY WOULD STILL REPLACE THE U-JOINTS IN QUESTION. LATER ON THEY CHANGED THEIR STORY TO THE DRIVE SHAFT NEEDING TO BE REPLACED COMPLETELY DUE TO WEAR ON THE ITEM FROM THE FAULTY U JOINTS. AFTER EXPLAINING BACKGROUND INFORMATION THEY TOLD ME I WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE DRIVE SHAFT TO BE REPLACED FOR FREE; BLAMING THE DAMAGE ON A PREVIOUS MECHANIC WHO HAS BEEN IN BUSINESS FOR HIMSELF FOR OVER 35 YEARS. NOW, AS I AM WRITING THIS COMPLAINT, MY VEHICLE SITS AT THE DEALERSHIP, WITH ME UNABLE TO UTILIZE IT DUE TO THE FACT THAT THEY NOW SAY THEY WILL NOT PUT THE DRIVE SHAFT BACK ON AND I WILL HAVE TO PAY OUT OF POCKET TO GET IT TOWED. THEY ARE TELLING ME THAT I AM NOT ELIGIBLE FOR RECALL STATUS, THEY WILL NOT PUT MY DRIVE SHAFT BACK INTO MY VEHICLE, AND THEY ARE COSTING ME AND MY FAMILY A LOT OF MONEY DUE TO THE FACT THAT MY VEHICLE IS MY LIVELYHOOD.
THE REAR PROPELLER SHAFT BROKE WHILE DRIVING ON HWY 2 AT 60 M.P.H. (WASHINGTON STATE). THE DRIVELINE FLAILED AROUND AND DAMAGED THE EXHAUST PIPE AND THE METAL BRACKET COMMON TO THE FUEL TANK. THIS IS A 2007 TOYOTA TACOMA 4WD. I FOUND A SAFETY RECALL FOR THIS EXACT PROBLEM NHTSA # 07V324000 THAT STATES THE PROPELLER SHAFT WAS INCORRECTLY CAST AND COULD SNAP (JUST LIKE THIS ONE DID). I CALLED TOYOTA AND THEY SAID THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT BECAUSE MY VIN DID NOT MATCH WITH THIS RECALL. THE PHOTOS I AM UPLOADING SHOWS THE SHAFT BROKEN OFF IN A CLASSIC CASE OF METAL FATIGUE DUE TO IMPROPER CASTING.
ON A ROUTINE COMMUTE HOME, I WAS TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 70 MPH IN THE #3 LANE ON THE FREEWAY WHEN I NOTICED I LOST ACCELERATION, BUT THE ENGINE WOULD REV. IT REGAINED ACCELERATION THEN WENT AWAY AGAIN WITH A HARSH SOUND. I WAS ABLE TO SAFELY MOVE OVER TO THE SHOULDER AND INSPECTED THE VEHICLE. IT WOULD NOT MOVE IN ANY GEAR AND UPON INSPECTION OF THE UNDERSIDE, SMOKE/STEAM WAS COMING FROM THE DIFFERENTIAL AND IT WAS VERY HOT TO THE TOUCH. THE TOWING COMPANY SPENT AN HOUR TRYING TO PULL IT ONTO THE FLATBED DUE TO BOTH REAR WHEELS BEING LOCKED DESPITE ALL BRAKES BEING OFF AND THE TRANSMISSION BEING IN NEUTRAL. ONCE IT WAS DROPPED OFF AT MY RESIDENCE, I REMOVED THE THIRD MEMBER ASSEMBLY. I DISCOVERED THERE WAS NO FLUID AND THE PINION GEAR LOOKED GROUND DOWN AND THERE WERE METAL FLAKES. IT ALSO APPEARED TO BE LEAKING FROM THE PINION SEAL, SOMETHING I WAS NOT AWARE OF LEADING UP TO THE INCIDENT.

MODERATE TO SEVERE VIBRATION STARTED FROM 5-40 MPH THEN VIBRATION IS STILL THERE AT > 40MPH BUT NOT AS BAD. DOES NOT MATTER IS HOT OR COLD, CITY OR HIGHWAY I HAD TIRES BALANCED AND ROTATED BUT VEHICLE STILL VIBRATES. TSB'S FROM TOYOTA POINT TO DRIVE TRAIN VIBRATIONS IN TACOMA MODELS. NOW, AT TIMES, THE DRIVE TRAIN SQUEALS LIKE A BAD U-JOINT OR HANGER BEARING. DEALER SAID THEY ARE AWARE BUT NO RECALL. THIS NEEDS A RECALL. VEHICLE HAS AROUND 147000 MILES.

THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKED UP WITHOUT WARNING, STEERED THE VEHICLE TO THE RIGHT WHERE IT CRASHED INTO A POLE. THE DRIVER WAS INJURED WITH A FRACTURED PELVIS. A POLICE REPORT WAS FILED. AT FIRST ABOUT 6 MONTHS AGO , CAR STARTED VIBRATING AT LOW SPEED AND DISAPPEAR AT HIGHER SPEED. ON 3/13/14 TRAVELING A ABOUT 30MPH , THERE WAS A SUDDEN VIBRATION (CAR SHAKING VIOLENTLY ) THEN A LOUD BANG UNDERNEATH THE DRIVER SIDE. GLIDED THE CAR ALONG SIDE THE ROAD, DID A VISUAL INSPECTION UNDER THE CAR AND NOTICE THE FRONT PROPELLER SHAFT WAS HANGING THERE. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN EXPOSE TO CARRYING HEAVY LOAD. THE HEAVIEST LOAD THAT THIS TRUCK CARRIED WAS AN UPRIGHT FREEZER THAT I BOUGHT FROM K-MART. IS MY TRUCK INCLUDED IN THAT 2007 FOR DRIVETRAIN PROBLEM??? IF SO WHERE CAN I GET INFO ON THIS? MY PROBLEM IS VERY SIMILAR TO THE 2007 RECALL ON BAD CASTING. *TR

2007 TOYOTA TACOMA. CONSUMER WRITES IN REGARDS TO SUDDEN VIBRATION WHEN VEHICLE WAS AT A STOP. *SMD THE CONSUMER STATED THE VEHICLE WOULD IDLE REALLY LOW. WHEN HE TURNED ON THE AC, THE IDLE WOULD INCREASE AND THE TRUCK WOULD STOP VIBRATING. ALSO, IF HE PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL, THE RPM WOULD INCREASE AND IT WOULD STOP VIBRATING. THE CONSUMER STATED HE CHECKED UNDER THE VEHICLE, BUT DIDN'T SEE ANY VISUAL LEAKS. AS HE PROCEEDED TO SLIDE FROM UNDER THE TRUCK, THE FRONT TIRE ROLLED OVER HIS HEAD AND CHEST. THE TRUCK ROLLED ACROSS THE STREET AND HIT A STREET SIGN. THE CONSUMER STATED HE AND A FRIEND RE-CREATED THE INCIDENT. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE FRIEND TOUCHED A LINKAGE, HE SAW THE SHIFTER MOVE TOWARD THE BACK OF THE TRUCK, STAYING IN THE SLOT FOR PARK. THE TRUCK THEN ROLLED WHILE MAKING A CLICKING NOISE. THE CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKE AND THE TRUCK STOPPED, HE PUSHED THE SHIFTER FORWARD AND THE TRUCK RE-ENGAGED INTO PARK. THE CONSUMER STATED HE COULD ONLY RE-CREATE THE PROBLEM, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON AN INCLINE. THE CONSUMER STATED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED ON A SLIGHT INCLINE, IT HAD THE ABILITY TO POP OUT OF PARK BY SLIGHTLY TOUCHING THE LINKAGE UNDER THE TRUCK. UPDATED 07/23/13*LJ
MY TRUCK HAS A VIBRATION IN THE REAR OF THE TRUCK WE HAVE BALANCED THE DRIVE LINE 3 TIMES REPLACED BOTH U-JOINTS AND THERE IS STILL A VIBRATION BETWEEN 30 AND 40 MILES PER HOUR. I TOOK IT TO THE TOYOTA DEARER SHIP AND THEY KEEP IT ALMOST 2 WEEKS AND FIRST SAID IT WAS THE TIRES, AND THEN THE TRANSMISSION AND THEN THE WHEELS AND THEN MAYBE IF I SPENT THE MONEY AND PUT A NEW DRIVE LINE ON THAT MIGHT FIX THE PROBLEM BUT NOT SURE. WHILE PASSING A SLOWER VEHICLE MY ACCELERATOR STUCK IN FULL THROTTLE AND WOULD NOT RELEASE, I TRIED TO PUT ON THE BRAKES BUT THE VEHICLE KEEP PICKING UP SPEED. I PUT THE VEHICLE IN NEUTRAL AND STARTED HITTING THE GAS PEDAL WITH MY RIGHT FOOT, THE ACCELERATOR RELEASED AND MY TRUCK WAS DOING OVER 70 MPH OR MORE. THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING AT FULL SPEED WHILE IN NEUTRAL AND I WAS JUST ABOUT TO SHUT OFF THE ENGINE WHEN IT RELEASED, I CONTACTED THE TOYOTA DEALER WHERE I BOUGHT THE TRUCK AND THE MAN ASKED HOW MANY FLOOR MATE'S WERE IN THE DRIVER SIDE OF MY TRUCK. I INFORMED HIM THAT THE ONLY MAT WAS THE MAT THAT CAME WITH THE TRUCK , I WAS INFORMED THAT I WOULD HAVE TO DROP OFF MY VEHICLE AND LEAVE IT UNTIL SOMEONE WENT OVER IT. I WAS ALSO TOLD THAT THIS WOULD TAKE ABOUT ONE DAY OR MORE, AND THAT I WOULD HAVE TO FILL OUT A BUNCH OF FORM'S FIRST. I TOLD THE SERVICE PERSON THAT THIS WAS MY ONLY VEHICLE AND THAT I HAD NO OTHER VEHICLE TO USE UNTIL THEY WERE DONE WITH THERE CHECK OF THE VEHICLE, THE SERVICE PERSON ( [XXX] OF PGH PA) SAID THAT'S THE WAY IT IS. VIBRATION OCCURRED BETWEEN 15 AND 20 MPH. THE TRUCK FELT LIKE YOU WERE DRIVING OVER A GRAVEL ROAD. RESEARCH INDICATED THERE WERE TSB'S FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM AT A LITTLE HIGHER SPEED WHICH EXTENDED THE WARRANTY TO 5 YEARS OR 80,000 MILES. I WAS FIRST TOLD BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THE PROBLEM WAS A RUBBER INSULATOR ENGINE MOUNT IN THE TRANSMISSION. I WAS LATER TOLD WHEN THE TRUCK WAS IN FOR REPAIR THAT THE PROBLEM WAS NOT THAT. THE PROBLEM WAS NOW ONE OF THE U JOINTS WAS NOT TURNING LIKE IT SHOULD. THE REPAIR RECOMMENDATION WAS REPLACE THE DRIVE SHAFT AND 3 U JOINTS AT A COST OF ABOUT $1,000.00. I ENDED UP SPENDING $731.00 AND TOYOTA PAID THE REST. THE REPAIR BILL STATES "DRIVE SHAFT FROZE". THE REPAIR WAS DONE ON NOVEMBER 29, 2011. *TR
