SEVERE DRIVERS SIDE FRAME CORROSION OVER REAR AXLE, ON BRACKET SECURING AXLE TO FRAME. *TR
MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS INSPECTED AT PORTSMOUTH TOYOTA IN NEW HAMPSHIRE AND DEEMED UNDRIVEABLE DUE TO A CORRODED/RUSTED/ROTTED OUT FRAME. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4X4 TRUCK. THERE IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE WITH THE FRAME ON THIS VEHICLE. THE FRAME HAS RUSTED TO THE POINT OF HAVING HOLES. I AM CONCERNED ABOUT THE SAFETY OF DRIVING THIS VEHICLE, AS FRAME FAILURE MAY OCCUR AND CAUSE INJURY OR LOSS OF LIFE. I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA ABOUT THIS PROBLEM AND WAS TOLD THERE WAS NOTHING THAT WOULD BE DONE ABOUT THE PROBLEM. IN RECENT PAST, TOYOTA RECALLED THE TACOMA FOR A SIMILAR PROBLEM. I WOULD LIKE FOR THIS PROBLEM TO BE ADDRESSED BY TOYOTA AND CORRECTED IN AN APPROPRIATE MANNER. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED UNDER AN UNKNOWN MANUFACTURER'S RECALL FOR POTENTIAL FRAME CORROSION. THE CONTACT WAS UNDER THE IMPRESSION THAT THE DEALER WOULD MAKE REPAIRS TO THE CONTROL ARM, STRUTS, AND SPRING PERCH IN ADDITION TO THE FRAME. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRAME WAS REPAIRED AT THE MANUFACTURER'S EXPENSE BUT NOT THE OTHER COMPONENTS. THE CONTACT WAS CHARGED FOR THE REPAIRS AND STATED THAT THE MANUFACTURER SHOULD HAVE REIMBURSED HIM FOR THE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER ADVISED THE CONTACT THAT THEY WOULD CONTACT HIM WITH A DECISION BUT HE HAD NOT YET BEEN CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 110,368.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED AT THE DEALER FOR UNRELATED ISSUES. THE DEALER ADVISED THERE WAS SEVERE CORROSION ON THE FRAME AND STRUCTURE OF THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC FOR A SECOND OPINION. THE MECHANIC ADVISED THE CORROSION WAS SO SEVERE THAT HE WOULD NOT BE ABLE TO PASS STATE INSPECTION. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED BUT DID NOT OFFER ANY FURTHER ASSISTANCE. THE VEHICLE WAS NO LONGER BEING DRIVEN. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 75,200 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 76,200.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. UPON TAKING THE VEHICLE FOR ROUTINE MAINTENANCE, THE MECHANIC NOTICED EXCESSIVE CORROSION AND HOLES IN THE FRONT AND REAR FRAME. THE DEALER VERIFIED THE CORROSION OF THE FRAME AND ADVISED THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE TO OPERATE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND ADVISED PURCHASING A NEW VEHICLE. THEY DID NOT ASSIST. 1. NOTICED SEVERE UNDER BODY RUST AND FRAME RUST ON 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA WHEN WASHING TRUCK. 2. RUST GETTING WORSE, MAKING THE VEHICLE LESS SAFE TO DRIVE AND USE AS INTENDED. 3. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO CORRECT THIS ISSUE YET, BUT DID RECEIVE A LETTER FROM TOYOTA STATING THE ISSUE WITH UNDER BODY RUST AND TOOK IT TO THE DEALERSHIP, BUT THEY DIDN'T DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT. *TR
ON 24 NOV 09 TOYOTA ISSUED A RECALL FOR 2000 TUNDRA PICKUPS, REGARDING FRAME CORROSION AND PARTICULARLY CORROSION ON THE CROSS MEMBER THAT HOLDS THE SPARE TIRE. ALTHOUGH I READ ABOUT THIS ONLINE, TOYOTA HAS YET TO INFORM ME BY MAIL. ON 24 MARCH 2010 I TOOK MY TRUCK IN TO BERLIN CITY MOTORS IN PORTLAND ME FOR AN INSPECTION OF THIS PROBLEM. THEY TOLD ME THAT MY CORROSION WAS NOT ENOUGH TO WARRANT FRAME REPLACEMENT, BUT THAT I WOULD BE NOTIFIED OF WHEN TO RETURN FOR APPLICATION OF SOME SORT OF CORROSION INHIBITING GUNK. SEVEN MONTHS LATER I HEARD NOTHING. I CALLED TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICES AND BEGAN A COMPLAINT PROCESS. THEY SAID THAT THEY ARE STILL SENDING OUT RECALLS ..ALMOST A YEAR LATER!!! THEY CLAIM THAT THEY NEED INFO FROM THE STATE OF MAINE REGARDING LEGALITY OF APPLYING CORROSION INHIBITING GUNK ON SAFELY, AND THEY NEED "OTHER" PERMISSIONS. IT IS MY OPINION THAT TOYOTA IS STALLING ON THIS FAIRLY SIMPLE RECALL, HOPING TO REDUCE THE PROBLEM BY ATTRITION OF OLDER VEHICLES. I WOULD APPRECIATE INFO FROM NHTSA AS TO WHY TOYOTA IS BEING ALLOWED TO TAKE THIS LONG ON A PROJECT THAT ISN'T EXACTLY ROCKET SCIENCE. THE TRUCK CANNOT PASS INSPECTION BECAUSE OF A RUSTED FRAME. THERE ARE HOLES (2"-3") IN BOTH SIDE RAILS OF FRAME, 3 OF THE CROSSMEMBERS ARE RUSTED THROUGH, ONE OF THEM TOTALLY DISINTEGRATED. THE REAR CROSS MEMBER IS ALSO CARRIES THE SPARE WHEEL, WHICH EVENTUALLY WILL FALL OFF AND MAY CAUSE AN ACCIDENT. REAR BRAKELINES ARE ATTACHED TO THIS CROSSMEMBER ALSO, WHICH MAY ALSO BE RUPTURED. REAR SHACKLES FOR REAR SPRINGS ARE ALMOST RUSTED THROUGH AND ARE VERY UNSAFE. NO ACCIDENT HAS HAPPENED YET, BUT VEHICLE IN INOPERABLE. *TR
2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. FRAME EXTREMELY RUSTED. I HAVE 3 HOLES IN MY FRAME. THE BIGGEST BEING THE SIZE OF A BASEBALL WITH NO ATTEMPT ON MY PART TO MAKE IT LARGER. THE LOCATION IS APPROX 6-8" FROM FRONT BUMPER (DRIVERS SIDE). 2ND BEING SAME LOCATION ON PASS. SIDE. 3RD HOLE BEING UNDER BACK DOOR ON DRIVERS SIDE. THE ENTIRE FRAME IS DELAMINATING. SHOCK BRACKETS ARE TO BAD TO INSTALL NEW SHOCKS. SECTIONS OF FRAME ARE THINNER DUE TO METAL THAT HAS FALLEN OFF. TRUCK HAS BEEN INSPECTED BY FIELD SERVICE TECHNICIAN FROM TOYOTA. TOYOTA HAS GIVEN ME SEVERAL DATES THAT THEY WERE GOING TO GIVE ME THEIR ANSWER TO THE RESOLUTION ONLY TO BE PUSHED BACK. LATEST DATE IS JAN 25. *TR

THE CONTACT RECEIVED NOTIFICATION OF NHTSA RECALL CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V444000 (STRUCTURE: FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDERBODY SHIELDS) AND TOOK THE VEHICLE TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THE DEALER ADVISED THE VEHICLE DID NOT EXHIBIT ENOUGH RUST FOR THEM TO MAKE ANY REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE. THE DEALER ADVISED THAT ONCE THE VEHICLE HAD RUSTED MORE EXTENSIVELY, THEY WOULD THEN MAKE REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 104,000.
I LEARNED ON THE TOYOTA WEBSITE THAT MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA WAS RECALLED TO CHECK FOR SEVERE CORROSION OF THE REAR CROSS MEMBER. MY TRUCK FAILED THE TEST AND I WAS TOLD IT WAS NOT SAFE TO DRIVE. THE DEALER PROVIDED A RENTAL CAR BUT HAS NO PLAN FOR REPAIRING THE TUNDRAS OR FOR COMPENSATING THE OWNERS. I WAS TOLD THE DEALER WOULD HOLD THE TUNDRA UNTIL TOYOTA PROVIDES AN ANSWER. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO THE DEALER WHO ADVISED THAT THE FRAME WAS RUSTED AND WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WOULD NOT PROVIDE ANY ASSISTANCE. THE VIN WAS UNAVAILABLE. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 86,000.

I HAVE A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA THAT SUFFERS FROM EXCESSIVE FRAME ROT PRIMARILY IN THE FRONT PORTION OF THE TRUCK. MY FEAR IS AN IMMANENT AND PREMATURE FAILURE OF NEWYORK STATE MANDATED SAFETY INSPECTION, HEAVEN FORBID A FRONTEND COLLISION IN WHICH MY WIFE WHO IS THE PRIMARY OPERATOR OF THIS VEHICLE, COULD BE SEVERELY INJURED OR KILLED. I HAVE READ AND HEARD OF SOME DEALERSHIPS REPLACING WHOLE TUNDRA FRAMES AS WELL AS SIMPLY BUYING BACK THE VEHICLES FROM THE CURRENT OWNERS. I VISITED A NEARBY TOYOTA DEALER WHO ANGRILY INFORMED ME THAT " NO SUCH PROBLEM EXISTS" YET WHEN I CONTACT OTHER TOYOTA DEALERSHIPS, THEY ADVISE ME THAT THEY ARE AWARE OF THE ISSUE. I AM LOOKING FOR THE TRUTH CONCERNING THIS MATTER. IT'S BEEN A GOOD TRUCK OTHERWISE, BUT I AM NOT GOING TO POTENTIALLY JEOPARDIZE THE LIVES OF MY FAMILY SIMPLY BECAUSE A MANUFACTURE WON'T TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THEIR PRODUCTION SHORTCUTS,OVERSIGHTS AND MISTAKES. AT THIS CURRENT TIME IN TOYOTA HISTORY, IT'S TIME TO FIX THE RECURRING PROBLEMS AND SHORTFALLS THEY HAVE BEEN TRYING FOR YEARS TO SLIDE BY THE CONSUMER BEFORE THE CONSUMER DICTATES THEIR FATAL DEMISE AS A COMPANY. *TR

TOYOTA REFUSED TO AUTHORIZE THE REPAIRS TO THE VEHICLE STATING THE ODOMETER WAS BRANDED. THE CONTACT ADVISED THE ODOMETER WAS NOT BRANDED AND HE HAD DOCUMENTATION THAT STATED OTHERWISE. WHEN I TOOK MY 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA INTO THE TOYOTA DEALER FOR MY ANNUAL NY STATE INSPECTION I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE COULD NOT PASS NYS INSPECTION. THE REASON GIVEN WAS DUE TO A RUST HOLE IN THE FRAME ON THE RIGHT SIDE, FRONT, NEXT TO THE SWAY BAR. (BY THE WAY, THE SPARE TIRE CROSS MEMBER WAS NOT IN NEED OF REPLACING). I AM CURRENTLY WAITING FOR TOYOTA TO CALL ME BACK A SECOND TIME, TO TELL ME WHAT THEY ARE GOING TO DO FOR ME ON THIS 10 YEAR OLD VEHICLE THAT I CAN'T LEGALLY DRIVE IN NEW YORK STATE. *TR
I OWN A 2000 TOYOTA TUNDRA. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK USED FROM AN OWNER IN BURLINGTON VERMONT ON 10/4/07. THE TRUCK IS GARAGED IN CONCORD NH. I TOOK THE TRUCK FOR AN ANNUAL INSPECTION AS REQUIRED BY NH ON 3/31/10. I WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WOULD BE UNINSPECTABLE NEXT YEAR. THE ASE CERTIFIED MECHANIC SUGGESTED THAT I HAVE A FRAME INSPECTION PERFORMED BY TOYOTA DUE TO THE MASSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE FRAME AND CROSS MEMBERS. I TOOK THE TUNDRA TO THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP FOR THE INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THAT THE TUNDRA HAD FRAME DAMAGE (RUST THROUGH HOLES) AND WAS ADVISED NOT TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE. I WAS SUPPLIED WITH A RENTAL VEHICLE AND THE TOYOTA CUSTOMER REPORTING PHONE NUMBER. I FILED A CLAIM WITH TOYOTA ON 4/1/10. TOYOTA CALLED ME 4/5/10 AND SAID THAT THEY WILL SEND A REPRESENTATIVE TO INSPECT THE VEHICLE AS SOON AS POSSIBLE. I AM WAITING FOR A DETERMINATION FROM TOYOTA ON WHAT, IF ANY ACTION THEY WILL TAKE. THE BODY, BED AND ENGINE OF THIS VEHICLE IS IN EXCELLENT CONDITION WITH 132K MILES. *TR

THERE WAS A RECALL UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER 09V444000 (STRUCTURE; FRAME AND MEMBERS: UNDERBODY SHIELDS). THE TECHNICIAN WAS UNABLE TO FIND A DEFECT WITHIN THE REAR CROSS MEMBER ASSOCIATED WITH THE RECALL ; HOWEVER, A HOLE WAS DETECTED IN THE LEFT FRONT FRAME RAIL. THE HOLE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO AN EXCESSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST. THE MANUFACTURER NOTIFIED THE CONTACT REGARDING THE RUST ON THE FRAME AND STATED THAT THE CONTACT WOULD BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE REPAIRS. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS UNSAFE AND FAILED TO COMPLY WITH THE STANDARDS TO PASS THE STATE SAFETY INSPECTION. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 105,524.
