AIR INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSES A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO APPEAR AND CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO "CRIPPLE" MODE LIMITING THROTTLE AND SPEED TO 40 MPH WHICH COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN SOME DRIVING CONDITIONS. DEALER STATED THEY ARE "FIXING" ~2 VEHICLES A DAY AND REPLACING THE AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND VALVES FOR A TOTAL COST OF ~$4000 IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE. IN MY CASE, THE DEALER REPLACED ONE PUMP A WEEK AGO AND NOW THE SECOND PUMP HAS FAILED ($1100 FOR EACH PUMP). THERE HAS NOT A DESIGN CHANGE TO THE PUMPS OR VALVES IN THE SYSTEM WITH THE REPLACEMENT PARTS SO THE FAILURE WILL HAPPEN AGAIN IN ANOTHER 30-50K MILES. DEALER CLAIMS MOISTURE IN THE SYSTEM IS CAUSING THE PROBLEMS. A QUICK GOOGLE SEARCH ON THE PROBLEM SHOWS THE PROBLEM IS SYSTEMIC WITH 2007+ TUNDRAS AND SEQUOIAS WITH THE 5.7L V8. OTHER MANUFACTURES USE AN AIR INJECTION SYSTEM WITH A MUCH LOWER COST AND THERE DOES NOT SEAM TO BE ANY PROBLEMS WITH THEM. *TR

TOYTOTA TUNDRA 2007 SPEED WENT FROM 60 MPH TO UNDER 20 MPH. CAR HAS SINCE BE DIAGOSED WITH DEFECTIVE AIR FLOW HANDLER, DEALERSHIP WANTS ME TO PAY $5,000 TO REPAIR THIS PART. THIS SITUATION CAUSED A LIFE THREATENING SITUATION ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS REPAIR SHOULD BE DONE AT THE COST OF THE MANUFACTURER SINCE THE TRUCK ONLY HAS 63,000 MILES ON IT. *TR

STUCK GAS PEDAL. THE INCIDENT OCCURRED OVER A YEAR AGO WHEN I WAS DRIVING ON US101 HIGHWAY NEAR TILLAMOOK, OREGON WITH TWO OF MY BROTHERS, ONE ON THE FRONT PASSENGER SEAT, AND ONE ON THE BACK. WHEN I SLIGHTLY PRESS ON THE GAS PEDAL, THE TRUCK TOOK OFF WITH RPM AT ABOUT 6000 AND SPEED OF ABOUT 70MPH, AND I COULD NOT STOP THE TRUCK VIA PRESSING REALLY HARD ON THE BRAKE. FINALLY, I WAS ABLE TO STOP IT BY PUSHING THE SHIFT HANDLE TO NEUTRAL. I TURNED OFF THE ENGINE AND CHECKED THE GAS PEDAL TO MAKE SURE NOTHING WOULD GET JAMMED, AND I DID NOT FIND ANYTHING. WHEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, THE RPM SHOT TO 6000 AGAIN, AND THIS TIME I TAPPED ON THE GAS PADDLE COUPLE TIMES, AND THE ENGINE DROPPED BACK DOWN TO IDLE. FORTUNATELY, THERE WAS NO ONE DRIVING IN FRONT OF ME, AND THERE WAS NO ACCIDENT INVOLVING THIS INCIDENT, BUT I BELIEVED THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY ISSUE THAT NEED TO GET MORE ATTENTION FROM THE TRUCK MANUFACTURER. BTW, I'VE NOT LET MY WIFE DRIVE THIS TRUCK SINCE THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. *TR

2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS AIR INJECTION FAILURE WHICH PUTS THE TRUCK IN "LIMP" MODE OR NO POWER. I WAS ENTERING THE EXPRESSWAY AND COULD NOT GET MY TRUCK ABOVE 40 MILES PER HOUR. I WAS ABLE TO PULL ONTO THE SHOULDER TO AVOID A MAJOR CRASH. TOYOTA IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT CHARGES $4000 FOR THE REPAIR. MY TRUCK HAS BEEN AT THE DEALER FOR OVER 6 WEEKS. THIS IS DUE TO IMPART TO A NATIONAL RECALL. THIS SEEMS IN MY OPINION AS A WAY FOR TOYOTA TO PROFIT FROM A FAULTY DESIGN AND A POTENTIAL LIFE THREATENING CONDITION. *TR

THE 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB WITH 5.7 LITER ENGINE WAS EXPERIENCING VEHICLE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM MALFUNCTIONS. AFTER REPLACEMENT OF WIRING HARNESS, TRACTION CONTROL ECU, WHEEL SPEED SENSORS THE PROBLEM WAS NOT CORRECTED. A FACTORY TECHNICIAN WAS BROUGHT IN TO LOOK OVER THE VEHICLE. THE FACTORY TECHNICIAN INFORMED ME THAT THE CAUSE OF THE PROBLEMS WITH MY TRUCK WERE BECAUSE SEVERAL SENSORS HAD LOST CALIBRATION DUE TO THE BATTERY BEING DISCONNECTED. THERE IS NO INFORMATION IN THE OWNERS MANUAL NOR ANY WARNING SIGNS ON THE VEHICLE THAT PROVIDE ANY CAUTIONARY STATEMENTS TO THE OWNER OR A SERVICE PROVIDER THAT DISCONNECTING THE BATTERY MAY RESULT IN THE LOSS OF CALIBRATION OF SENSORS IN THE VEHICLE. TOYOTA MOTOR CORPORATION HAS CLARIFIED THAT THIS INFORMATION IS ONLY IN THE FACTORY SERVICE MANUAL. A REVIEW OF SEVERAL TOYOTA REPAIR PROCEDURES, WHICH REQUIRE THE BATTERY TO BE DISCONNECTED CONTAIN NO WARNING TO CHECK SENSOR CALIBRATION. THE TRACTION CONTROL SYSTEM IS ONE OF THE MAJOR SAFETY SYSTEMS OF THIS VEHICLE. WHEN IT FAILS, THE OPERATOR MAY LOOSE THROTTLE AND BRAKING CONTROL. I HAVE HAD THIS VEHICLE SHUT DOWN THE THROTTLE WHILE I WAS TRYING TO ACCELERATE FROM A STOP SIGN AT AN INTERSECTION, THUS NEARLY CAUSING A T-BONE COLLISION. *TR
