The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated while parking the vehicle, there was a loud sound coming from the vehicle. The contact inspected the vehicle and determined that the fuel tank scrap and bolt had fractured and detached. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or the dealer. In addition, the contact stated that when the vehicle was purchased in May 2024, the contact later noticed flaking material on the ground underneath the vehicle. The vehicle was then taken to the dealer, but no assistance was provided. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. In addition, the contact confirmed that in March 2019, the vehicle was serviced under an unknown corrosion prevention recall repair. The contact confirmed that at the time, the dealer performed the recall repair by spraying anti-corrosion prevention on the suspension. The unknown recall repair was warranted for 60 months. The failure mileage was approximately 279,000.

Undercoating of vehicle was not properly installed causing the frame to rust out creating a serious safety concern as the fuel tank can fall from the vehicle due to extensive rust. Toyota is aware of this situation however refuses to repair the problem.

The frame of the vehicle has a recall on it because of excessive rusting. The previous owner had not gotten the recall fixed. The rusted frame causes issues with steering, maintenance, and general control and safety of the vehicle. Toyota dealerships claim this recall has expired. A rusted frame violated NY State inspection. Since this indefinitely violates the NHTSA guidelines and regulations, how can it expire? Toyota refuses to fix the recall on the frame due to “expiration” and would rather endanger roadways see as many of these vehicles still are driven on public roadways and come with a hefty cost due to the expiration. Many vehicles like this with under 100k miles have the same critical issue, leaving Americas at a loss. This recall should not “expire”

What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? Gas tank cover plate is rusting out causing the tank to almost fall out. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? My safety and others safety was put at risk as if the tank were to fall out, it could catch the vehicle on fire. Also as the plate rusts even more day by day, the heat from the exhaust and other parts that heat up it can damage the gas tank and once again is a fire hazard. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? No, there are no open recalls from what I can’t tell by the vin but same year has same problems and are under recall. Not sure why this one isn’t under recall. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? No. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No, there would be no lights for an issue like this.

Dear NHTSA , I have a major safety concern regarding the frame of my 2007 Toyota Tundra Limited. My truck has only 128,665 miles on it, and it's pristine, except for the fact that the frame is rusted away, to the point where it needs to be replaced. I noticed last week that one of my straps holding up my gas tank was hanging, and my tank was near the ground. I brought it to my mechanic, and he said that the strap was fine, the strap was rotted off my frame. He said that the frame is in such dire shape that I was lucky that my truck didn't fall apart while driving it, and that I'm lucky the gas tank didn't drag on the highway, causing a catastrophic event. Upon researching this, I found that Toyota Corporation was aware of this major safety issue. Toyota evidently replaced quite a lot of these defective frames due to rust issues, but a recall was never sent out to all Toyota Tundra owners. I just spoke to someone at Toyota's Corporate office, and the person told me that there was nothing that Toyota could do for me, except say that they are sorry. How can such an important safety issue with these Toyota Tundra frames not trigger a recall? Is there anything that the NHSTA can do to make Toyota correct this hazardous safety issue and problem? A formal recall should have been sent out. How many more Tundra owners are still driving around with this major life safety problem, that they are unaware of? Please help me, Toyota needs to do more than just say 'sorry'. If there something that you can do? If not, where do I turn next? Respectfully, [XXX] INFORMATION Redacted PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6).

The contact owns a 2007 Toyota Tundra. The contact stated that the frame of the vehicle was severely corroded. The vehicle was taken to the dealer who diagnosed that the fuel tank crossmember was corroded and the sub frame was severely corroded on both the driver’s and passenger’s side. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and advised the contact that the vehicle could not be repaired under an unknown frame corrosion recall because the recall had already expired. The vehicle was not repaired. The failure mileage was approximately 107,000.

Excessive frame corrosion. I brought the vehicle in for the corrosion recall in 2018. against my objection, they determined that my frame did not have to be replaced and they coated the frame without removing the rust. I recently brought the truck in for service at a location repair shop where he notified me that my fuel tank supports have completely rust off of the frame. He dropped the fuel tank and found that Toyota had never dropped the tank and coated the cross members above the tank. The tank has been supported only by the filler hose, endangering my life and the life of my family. When I contacted Toyota, their response was they did what they were supposed to do. IN 2018 I BROUGHT MY 2007 TO MY DEALER (ACTON TOYOTA LITTLETON MASS.) TO HAVE AN EXTENDED WARRANTY CHECK ON THE FRAME. THEY FOUND IT TO BE RUSTED ENOUGH TO KEEP IT SEVERAL DAYS FOR RUST TREATMENT . A YEAR OR SO LATER MY MECHANIC TOLD ME THAT I HAD A SEVERE UNDERBODY RUST PROBLEM. AT THIS TIME TOYOTA REFUSED TO TAKE CARE OF IT BECAUSE I WAS 2 WEEKS BEYOND THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. TOYOTA ORIGINALLY REPLACED A LOT OF THE RUSTED FRAMES AND ALSO TREATED OTHERS. I NOW HAVE A VEHICLE THAT HAS LESS THAN 80,000 MILES AND MAY BE UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I FEEL THAT THE RUST PROTECTION WAS A TEMPORARY SOLUTION TO PACIFY CUSTOMERS LIKE MYSELF .

THE FRAME - BOTH RAILS - IS RUSTED THRU AT THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. YOU ARE ABLE TO PUT YOUR FINGER RIGHT THRU ONE OF THE RAILS AND THE OTHER YOU COULD POKE THRU WITH A BALL PEEN HAMMER. IT IS AT THE VERY END OF THE RAILS SO THERE IS NO WAY TO WELD A PIECE ON IT. THIS WAS NOTED ON 9/15/20 BUT CANNOT TELL WHEN IT FIRST STARTED THE RUSTING PROCESS - HAS BEEN PASSING INSPECTION EVERY YEAR.

I HAVE VERY BAD RUST IN THE BED OF MY 07 DC. I BOUGHT THE TRUCK NEW. THE RUST WAS OBSCURED BY THE TOYOTA BED LINER UNTIL I SAW OTHER OWNERS POSTING AND CHECKED IT OUT. I KEEP MY TRUCK IN IMMACULATE CONDITION AND IT ONLY HAS 57,000 MILES. THE RUST IS COMING FROM UNDERNEATH AND IS FOCUSED AROUND THE BOLTS THAT HOLD THE BED TO THE FRAME. I AM AFRAID THAT THE BED WILL FALL OFF OF THE TRUCK! I AM TRYING TO BRING AWARENESS TO THIS DEFECT BEFORE IT CAUSES AN ACCIDENT. A CALL TO THE DEALER AND EVERY POST THAT I SEE SAYS THAT TOYOTA WILL NOT HELP. THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE AND TOYOTA SHOULD TAKE RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE POOR WORKMANSHIP AND REPLACE THE DEFECTIVE PARTS BEFORE THERE ARE ACCIDENTS. MY FRAME IS ALSO RUSTED. TOYOTA DEALER SPRAYED A SOLUTION ON THE FRAME BUT IT IS STILL RUSTING AND IS AFFECTING THIS BED RUST AS WELL.

ON JULY 18 2019 MY FILE TANK STRAP RUSTED OFF. I NOTICED THE TANK HANGING DOWN WHEN MY G AND I WERE ON A DINNER DATE. WHEN I TRIED TO REPAIR IT THE BRACKET THAT BOLTS TO THE FRAME TORE OFF DUE TO RUST. I HAD NO WAY TO FIX IT SO I PUT UP THE TANK WITH A RATCHET STRAP AND DROVE IT ONLY MINIMALLY. ON APRIL 15TH 2020 MY TRUCK WOULD NOT START AND SO AFTER ABOUT A WEEK OR SO I HAD A TOW TRUCK PICK IT UP AND BRING IT TO A LOCAL SHOP. BEFORE THE SHOP GOT STARTED ON THE VEHICLE THEY TOLD ME THE FRAME IS IN REALLY ROUGH CONDITION. THIS IS NEWS TO ME BECAUSE I BOUGHT IT FROM A LOCAL DEALER, RHINELANDER HONDA TO BE EXACT, ON NOVEMBER 27 2018. I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD IT A YEAR AND A HALF. THEY THEN PROCEED TO TELL ME ABOUT A TOYOTA FRAME RECALL/EXTENDED WARRANTY THAT I MAY FALL UNDER. WHILE THE TRUCK IS IN THE SHOP I REACHED OUT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER, RHINELANDER TOYOTA, AND THEY TOLD ME I WAS NOT ABLE TO GET HELP BECAUSE THE WARRANTY EXPIRED IN MARCH/MAY OF 2019 FOR MY TRUCK. I TOLD THEM I HAD JUST BOUGHT IT AND HAD NOT RECEIVED ANY INFORMATION ABOUT THE FRAME RECALL. THEY STATED THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND GAVE ME THE NUMBER TO THE CORPORATE OFFICE. I CONTACTED AND SPOKE WITH SEVERAL PEOPLE AT THE CORPORATE OFFICE AND THEY EXPLAINED THAT THEY COULD NOT HELP ME EITHER. I HAVE A HARD TIME UNDERSTANDING WHY IF TOYOTA KNOWS THERE IS A SIGNIFICANT ENOUGH RUST/CORROSION ISSUE THAT THEY WOULD REPLACE FRAMES FOR THE TRUCK YEAR THAT MY TRUCK FALLS INTO BUT GIVE IT AN EXPIRATION DATE AND THEN NOT HONOR FIXING THE ISSUES THEY KNOW EXIST. I NEVER RECEIVED ANY LETTERS OR INFORMATION ABOUT THE ISSUES WITH THE FRAMES AND NOW MY TRUCK IS STILL AT THE SHOP WHILE THEY TRY TO DETERMINE THE BEST WAY TO MAKE IT ROAD WORTHY. THIS IS NOT A POORLY MAINTAINED TRUCK. OTHER THAN THE FRAME ISSUES IT IS A VERY NICE PICKUP. I HAVE ONE PICTURE FROM THE MECHANIC SO FAR AND I WILL ATTACH IT.

I HAVE A 2007 WHITE TUNDRA. MY PAINT ON THE TUNDRA IS NOW DULL. FADING AND BEGINNING TO PEAL. THE DISAPPEARANCE OF THE TOP COAT BEGAN FOUR YEARS INTO OWNING THE VEHICLE. I'VE COMPLAINED SEVERAL TIMES ONLY TO BE TOLD IT'S MY FAULT. I'VE SEEN SEVERAL COMPLAINTS ABOUT THIS SAME ISSUE WHICH TELLS ME THIS IS NOT AN ISOLATED ISSUE AND I'M NOT THE ONLY ONE EXPERIENCING THIS. THE PAINT ON THE ENTIRE VEHICLE IS MATTE; NO SHINE. NO WAX WILL BRING THE SHINE BACK. STAINS FROM TOYOTA REPAIR SHOP ARE CONSISTENTLY VISIBLE AND WILL NOT WASH OUT OF THE PAINT. TOYOTA DOESN'T SEEM TO WANT TO TAKE OWNERSHIP FOR THE BAD PAINT.

2007 TUNDRA IN MINT CONDITION....FRAME UNDERCOATING RECALL WAS PERFORMED A YEAR AGO...DROPPED THE SPARE TIRE TO CHANGE A FLAT TIRE AND WAS DEEPLY CONCERNED WITH THE FLAKING RUST ON THE FRAME CROSSMEMBER. CLEARLY, THE COATING WAS SPRAYED TO COVER WITHOUT ANY PREP WORK OR RUST REMOVAL FIRST. I AM SEEKING A SECOND LOOK...LOCAL BODY SHOP PROFESSIONAL SAID THIS WAS TERRIBLE WORK AND THE FRAME LIFE IS VERY LIMITED.

MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA HAS A VERY BAD FRAME AND UNDER BODY RUST ISSUE (I HAVE MULTIPLE PICTURES AND VIDEOS I CAN PROVIDE). LAST AUGUST, I FOUND OUT ON A TOYOTA FORUM THAT THERE IS A RECALL/CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT FOR THIS ISSUE HTTP://WWW.TOYOTAFRAMESETTLEMENT.COM I HAVE CONTACTED TOYOTA COORPORATE ON (OR AROUND) 08/03/2018 (INCIDENT: 180803-000275) FOR MORE INFORMATION AND ASKED WHERE I SHOULD TAKE MY TRUCK FOR INSPECTION. I WAS TOLD THEY CAN'T HELP BECAUSE MY TRUCK WAS BUILT (OF CONFIGURED) FOR THE CANADIAN MARKET. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CANADA (1-888-869-6828) AND WAS TOLD THEY CAN'T HELP BECAUSE I DON'T RESIDE IN CANADA AND THE FRAME SETTLEMENT IS ONLY FOR RESIDENTS HTTPS://WWW.CLG.ORG/CLASS-ACTION/LIST-OF-CLASS-ACTIONS/TOYOTA-RUSTY-FRAME-CANADIAN-CLASS-ACTION . I HAVE ALREADY SPENT OVER $1500 WORTH OF BRAKE CABLES, TENSIONER AND OTHER RUSTED PARTS. I WAS TOLD, THIS TRUCK IS VERY UNSAFE TO DRIVE. I HAVE TRIED EVERYTHING AND NOBODY IS LISTENING. THIS SITUATION IS CAUSING ME A LOT OF SLEEPLESS NIGHTS AND STRESS. I'M PLANNING TO CONTACT MY LAWYER NEXT WEEK TO DISCUSS OUT OPTIONS IF THERE IS NO RESOLUTION. I CAN PROVIDE A RECORDING OF ALL MY CONVERSATIONS WITH TOYOTA AGENTS. THANKS,

WHO CAN I GET TO HELP ME BECAUSE MY TRUCK FRAME IS RUSTED/CORRODED FROM SALT AND IT IS NOT SAFE. IT PULLS HARD TO THE RIGHT. I WENT TO HOLLOWAY TIRE CO.(706-647-7016 - [XXX]) IN THOMASTON, GA. TO GET MY FRONT END ALIGNED. THEY COULD NOT DO IT BECAUSE THE BOLTS THEY NEEDED TO LOOSE ON THE LOWER CONTROL ARM, IN ORDER TO ALIGN IT, WERE SO RUSTED/CORRODED FROM SALT THAT THEY COULD NOT GET THEM LOOSE. THEY EVEN APPLIED HEAT TO THE BOLTS TO TRY AND BREAK THEM LOOSE BUT THAT DID NOT HELP. THE RUST/CORROSION FROM SALT HAD THEM FROZEN/LOCKED. TOYOTA REFUSES TO HONOR THEIR FRAME RECALL ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE COURT ORDERED TOYOTA TO FIX THE PROBLEM IN A CLASS ACTION SETTLEMENT. SEE WEBSITE BELOW. HTTP://WWW.TOYOTAFRAMESETTLEMENT.COM I LIVE IN GEORGIA. I BOUGHT MY TRUCK 1 YEAR AGO. (SEPT. 2017) IN CONYERS, GA. PREVIOUS TO THAT THE 07 TUNDRA SPENT 10 YEARS IN NEW YORK. IT WAS A ONE OWNER PREVIOUS TO ME. THE FRAME IS RUSTED/CORRODED FROM SALT BUT TOYOTA WILL NOT DO ANYTHING ABOUT IT BECAUSE I DO NOT LIVE IN A COLD WEATHER STATE. EVEN THOUGH, TOYOTA WAS TOLD THAT THE TRUCK LIVED IN A COLD WEATHER STATE FROM 2007 TO 2017. (OUT OF THE 11 PAST YEARS THE TRUCK LIVED IN NEW YORK 10 OF THOSE YEARS). I WENT TO MY LOCAL TOYOTA DEALER (BUTLER TOYOTA - 888-683-1348 ) IN MACON, GA. AND THAT DEALERSHIP REPRESENTATIVE [XXX] CONTACTED TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS AND EVEN SENT THEM PICTURES OF MY FRAME AND THE DEALERSHIP WAS TOLD BY TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS SINCE, I DO NOT LIVE IN A COLD WEATHER STATE, TOYOTA IS NOT GOING TO DO ANYTHING ABOUT MY TRUCK. EVEN THOUGH, TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS WAS TOLD THAT OUT OF THE 11 PAST YEARS 10 OF THOSE YEARS (FROM 2007 TO2017) THE TRUCK LIVED IN NEW YORK (A COLD WEATHER STATE). I NEED HELP TO GET TOYOTA TO DO THE RIGHT THING AND GET MY FRAME FIXED BECAUSE IT IS RUSTED AND NOT SAFE VIN # [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6). *TR

I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND WHILE STATIONARY IN MY GARAGE I NOTICED BUBBLING UNDER MY SPRAY IN BEDLINER WHERE THE BED CONTACTS THE FRAME CROSS RAILS FRONT AND BACK. I THEN CRAWLED UNDER THE TRUCK BED AND SAW A MASSIVE AMOUNT OF RUST ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE BED. I TOOK IT FORT'S TOYOTA OF PEKIN AND THEY SAID THEY COULD NOT HELP ME AND THAT I COULD CALL TOYOTA CUSTOMER SERVICE BUT DIDN'T THINK IT WOULD HELP SINCE I DIDN'T NOTICE IT TILL AFTER WARRANTY WAS EXPIRED EVEN THOUGH I'VE HAD EVERY SERVICE DONE AT THEIR PLACE SINCE NEW. YOU WOULD THINK THE 27 POINT INSPECTION THEY PERFORMED EVERY TIME WOULD HAVE CAUGHT IT BEFORE WARRANTY EXPIRED SINCE THEY HAD A TSB ON THE RUST THROUGH PROBLEM.

I HAD MY 2007 57,800 MILE TUNDRA INSPECTED AT MY TOYOTA DEALER WHEN I WAS INFORMED THAT THE FRAME/UNDER VEHICLE IS "VERY RUSTY". UPON INSPECTION BY MYSELF THE ENTIRE FRAME IS RUSTING AND FLAKING OFF. THE SERVICE TECH PLAYED STUPID AND REFERRED ME TO CORPORATE(800-331-4331). SHE ALSO SAID IT PASSED INSPECTION AND THERE ARE NO HOLES IN THE FRAME. I GUESS THAT MAKES IT ALL OK. CORPORATE INFORMED ME THAT MY TRUCK HAS NO "WARRANTY SERVICE ENHANCEMENTS" AT THIS TIME. THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM BUT CAN OFFER ME NO FURTHER ASSISTANCE WITH THIS ISSUE, AT THIS TIME. I SHOULD NOT HAVE SEVERE RUST ISSUES WITH A GARAGE KEPT 2007 TUNDRA(OR ANY VEHICLE) AT 57,800 MILES THAT I PURCHASED NEW. I SUSPECT THE VEHICLE WILL HAVE SAFETY ISSUES WITHIN THE NEXT 2 YEARS DUE TO THE SEVERE RUSTING OF THE FRAME.

TOYOTA TUNDRA RUST AND CORROSION IN TRUCK BED. COMING FROM BELOW. SPREADING LIKE CANCER AND THIS WAS POSTED ON JULY OF 2012 # TSB-0101-12. RUST HAS COMPLETELY EATEN THROUGH TRUCK BED FLOOR AND THERE ARE SEVERAL (8+) OTHER SPOTS. I'M NOW CONCERNED WITH SAFETY FOR MY FAMILY. I FIRST NOTICED THIS ON 9/9/16 AFTER REMOVING MY BED LINER FOR FIRST TIME TO THEN HAVE A SPRAY LINER IN PLACE. I THEN TOOK TO DEALERSHIP AND THEN CALLED TOYOTA. IF THEY WOULD'VE INFORMED ME OF THE TSB, I WOULD HAVE TAKEN IT IN TO HAVE FIXED AS THIS ONE MAJOR HOLE IS MORE THAN 5 YEARS IN THE MAKING. WITH THE TIMING OF THIS TSB THAT WOULD'VE PUT ME INSIDE THE 5 YEAR CORROSION WARRANTY. YOU JUST NEVER THINK TO LOOK UNDER BED LINER AND NOW IT'S TOO LATE PER TOYOTA. VERY UNHAPPY

I OWN A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA DOUBLE CAB LIMITED 4X4. I STARTED NOTICING RUST DEVELOPING IN MY TRUCK BOX IN MARCH 2011. I REPORTED IT TO TOYOTA IN CANADA AS THE VEHICLE HAD BEEN IMPORTED FROM THE USA INTO CANADA FROM THE PREVIOUS OWNER BACK IN 2007. I WAS TOLD THAT I WOULD HAVE TO CONTACT TOYOTA USA FOR CORROSION WARRANTY. WHEN I CONTACTED TOYOTA USA I WAS TOLD THAT THERE WAS CURRENTLY NO RECALL FOR THE ISSUE I WAS EXPERIENCING AND I WOULD NOT BE COVERED UNDER CORROSION WARRANTY BECAUSE MY TRUCK HAD BEEN EXPORTED OUT OF THE USA. IT WAS NOT UNTIL A FEW YEARS LATER I WAS TOLD BY THE LOCAL TOYOTA DEALERSHIP THAT THERE WAS A RECALL FOR THIS EXACT ISSUE AS WELL AS AN ISSUE OF FRAME RUSTING. I CONTACTED TOYOTA CANADA TO SEE IF MY TRUCK WOULD BE COVERED. I WAS TOLD THAT ONCE AGAIN THIS WAS AN ISSUE THAT WOULD HAVE TO MANAGED BY TOYOTA USA. I CONTACTED TOYOTA USA AND WAS TOLD THAT I WAS OVER THE 5 YEAR UNLIMITED MILEAGE AS WELL MY VEHICLE HAD BEEN EXPORTED FROM THE USA SO EITHER WAY IT WOULD HAVE NOT BEEN COVERED.
