TRUCK BED RUSTING FROM UNDERNEATH IN 2 SPOTS WHERE ATTACHING TO THE FRAME UNDERCARRIAGE AND BUBBLING ON BED FLOOR. IS A KNOWN PROBLEM AND TOYOTA REFUSES TO FIX IT BECAUSE IT IS OVER 5 YEAR WARRANTY. HAS 47000 MILES ON IT. COULD BECOME A SAFETY FACTOR IF IT COMES COMPLETELY LOOSE FROM THE FRAME.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT AFTER INSPECTING UNDER THE VEHICLE, IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE METAL STRAPS THAT HOLDS THE FUEL TANK WERE HANGING FROM THE VEHICLE. IN ADDITION, THE CONTACT MENTIONED THAT THE METAL STRAPS WERE CORRODED AND FRACTURED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 45,000.

THE DEALER STATED THAT THE FAILURE WAS UNUSUAL AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO THE MANUFACTURER. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO FILE A COMPLAINT WITH NHTSA. T-SB-0101-12. TOYOTA DID NOT NOTIFY ME OF THIS TSB. I DID NOT DISCOVER THE ISSUE UNTIL 2 MONTHS AFTER MY 60 MONTH SERVICE DATE. THE DEALERSHIP FORTS TOYOTA OF PEKIN ILLINOIS WOULD NOT HELP ME. CONTACT AT TOYOTA CORPORATE THEY TOLD ME BECAUSE IT WAS PAST MY 60 MONTHS SERVICE THEY COULD NOT HELP ME EITHER. SO NOW I'M LEFT WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS RUSTING APART THAT I PAID OVER $30,000 FOR. I HAVE BEEN ASKING AND CALLING FOR OVER 2 YEARS, AND NOW I WAS LED TO THIS WEBSITE TO FILE A COMPLAINT HERE JUST RECENTLY.
THE BED IS RUSTING OUT ALL ACROSS THE CROSS MEMBERS. IT STARTED GRADUALLY, BUT NOW IT'S SO BAD I'M AFRAID THE BOX COULD BREAK LOOSE AND FLY OFF THE TRUCK WHILE GOING DOWN THE HIGHWAY. TOYOTA HAS A SERVICE BULLETIN ON THIS VERY ISSUE, BUT WHEN I TOOK IT IN THEY SAID IT WAS TOO OLD AND THEY WOULD NOT COVER IT. WHAT DIFFERENCE DOES AGE MAKE? IT WAS CLEARLY A MANUFACTURING DEFECT THAT TOYOTA EVEN ACKNOWLEDGES, BUT BECAUSE I WAS UNAWARE OF POTENTIAL DANGER UNTIL AFTER IT WAS PAST THE TIME THEY FEEL THEY ARE RESPONSIBLE, I AM STUCK WITH A VEHICLE THAT IS UNSAFE AND HAS A MUCH LOWER RESALE VALUE...UPDATED 10/14/15 *BF UPDATED 11/08/2017*CN
PAINT ON ROOF OXIDIZING, IN ABOUT 12 X 6INCH AREA. PAINT ON THE REST THE VEHICLE IN VIRTUALLY FLAWLESS. THE VEHICLE IS WASHED FREQUENTLY AND WAXED AT LEAST TWICE A YEAR. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 30 MPH OVER A POTHOLE, AN ABNORMAL GRINDING NOISE EMITTED FROM THE REAR OF THE VEHICLE. AFTER INSPECTING THE VEHICLE, THE CONTACT OBSERVED THAT THE SKID PLATE DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A DEALER. THE TECHNICIAN DIAGNOSED THAT THE SKID PLATE DETACHED AND NEW POP RIVETS NEEDED TO BE INSTALLED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 70,000.

THE TAILGATE ON MY 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA IS COMING APART AT THE SEAMS. I HAVE HAD THE TAILGATE REPLACED ONCE FOR THE FAILURE, AND THE NEW ONE IS SHOWING THE SAME FAILURE. JUDGING BY THE PICTURES ON THE INTERNET THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE TOYOTA TAILGATES. IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE THIS DESIGN FLAW CAUSES INJURY TO A PERSON AND OR PROPERTY DAMAGE. A SIMPLE INTERNET SEARCH FOR TOYOTA TAILGATE FAILURES SHOWS THE RESULTS OF SUCH A FAILURE. I DO LOAD MY QUAD USING THE TAILGATE AS A LOAD BEARING SYSTEM ,REASON FOR THIS IS THE RAMP SYSTEMS MADE FOR THIS TASK ARE DESIGNED TO USE A TAILGATE. I HAVE A DOUBLE CAB LIMITED EDITION HAVE MADE COMPLAINTS FOR OVER 10 MONTHS NOW ABOUT THE TERRIBLE BED BOUNCE PROBLEMS. I BOUGHT IT FOR MY SERVICE BUSINESS &PLEASURE. TOY IS THE MOST UNCOMFORTABLE VEHICLE I HAVE EVER DRIVEN! THE FIRST THING PEOPLE SAY IS,WHAT IS THE PROBLEM WITH THE ROADS? KIDS HATE IT. MY DOG HATES THE TRUCK! SHE CAN'T GET COMFORTABLE WITH THE BED BOUNCE. BY THE END OF THE DAY I AM AT DRIVER FATIGUE STAGE! YOU CAN DRIVE 60-70 BUT NOT FOR LONG! THIS TRUCK FEELS EVERY LITTLE BUMP NOOK AND CRANNY ON ALL ROADS. I TRIED GOING UP TO 80-90 MILES AN HOUR TO REMOVE THE BOUNCE, IT'S STILL THERE. GOING SLOWER LIKE 50 MPH OR LESS DOESN'T DO MUCH. I'D RATHER DRIVE A HORSE AND BUGGY WITH SOLID WOOD WHEELS. I CAN'T TELL YOU HOW DISAPPOINTING IT IS TO DRIVE MY TRUCK. NOBODY LIKES BEING IN THIS TRUCK. I SPOKE WITH THE SERVICE MANAGER OF TOYOTA WHO DROVE ONE. HIS WIFE MADE HIM RETURN HIS TRUCK BECAUSE OF IT'S TERRIBLE RIDE AND HE AGREED. TOOK MY TRUCK TO GMC DEALER TO TRADE IT, THEY HAVE GOTTEN WIND OF IT'S PROBLEM AND ARE NOT WILLING TO TRADE IT IN. GOOD LUCK IS ALL THEY SAY. I HAVE BEEN TOLD BY TOYOTA HEADQUARTERS I'M HAVING A BED BOUNCE SENSATION, IT'S NOT THE FRAME, IT'S NOT THE SUSPENSION, PUT 10 BAGS OF CEMENT IN THE BACK, TOW A LOAD, THIS WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER RIDE! I CAN'T BELIEVE I SPEND OVER 40,000! I TOOK IT TO A SPECIALIST AND WAS TOLD IT'S THE FRAME! NOT MUCH CAN BE DONE TO FIX THE PROBLEMS TOYOTA IS HAVING. ALL I KNOW IS I HAVE A TRUCK I DON'T WANT AND CAN'T RECOUP MY LOSSES. HOW UNSAFE IS THIS PROBLEM? WHY IS THE PUBLIC THE GUINEA PIG THIS DAY IN AGE WHEN WE ARE SO ADVANCED? IF I CAME UP WITH SOMETHING NEW AND SOLD IT TO MY CUSTOMERS IN THE SAME FASHION LIKE TOYOTA DID TO ME. THEN GAVE THEM A RUN AROUND ABOUT WHAT'S REALLY GOING ON. YOU ALREADY HAVE OTHER COMPLAINTS ABOUT TAILGATE FAILURE ON 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA TRUCKS. I HAVE READ ABOUT THEM AND SEEN THE PICTURES. I HAVE PERSONALLY CONTACTED TOYOTA MOTORS TO GET A SAFE WEIGHT MAXIMUM FOR THIS TAILGATE AND THEY HAVE TWICE REFUSED TO PROVIDE THIS INFORMATION. IN THEIR LATEST CORRESPONDENCE THEY CLAIM THE TAILGATE HAS NO RATING AS IT IS NOT A WEIGHT BEARING PART. THIS CONTRADICTS THEIR OWN WEBSITE WHERE THEY SELL A BED EXTENDER ACCESSORY THAT IS USED TO INCREASE THE CAPACITY BY USING THE TAILGATE AS A WEIGHT BEARING PART OF THE TRUCK. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY ASSISTANCE YOU CAN PROVIDE TO FORCE TOYOTA TO REVEAL THE SAFE TAILGATE WEIGHT LIMITS. *CN
NUT HOLDING THE DRIVER'S SIDE HEAT DUCT WAS LOOSE. THIS ALLOWED THE HEAT DUCT TO FALL DOWN AND BLOCK THE DRIVER'S USE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL AND THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL. LUCKILY FOR ME I WAS NOT ON A BUSY STREET OR DRIVING AT HIGHWAY SPEED. THIS DEFECT ALMOST COMPLETELY BLOCKS THE DRIVERS USE OF THE BRAKE PEDAL. IF THIS HAPPENS TO SOMEONE ON A CROWDED FREEWAY AT SPEED THEY COULD BE SERIOUSLY INJURED OR KILLED IN THE ACCIDENT. *TR
1.MY TAILGATE LATCH SYSTEM IS NOT WORKING AS EXPECTED AND IS FLIMSY. 2. MY TAILGATE IS WEAK AND SMALL CRACKING AT SEAMS AT SIDE WHERE NOT WELDED, AND THIS IS WITH MY 215 LB. FRAME STEPPING ON IT TO GET IN BED. I WANTED TO PURCHASE BED EXTENDER TO CARRY LONGER OBJECTS AS I HAVE DONE IN MY TRADED IN F 150 BUT TAILGATE CANNOT HANDLE MY WEIGHT MUCH LESS OBJECT. I KNOW OTHERS THAT LOAD ATV'S AND MOTORCYCLES WITH COMPLETE SEAM FAILURE, SO I DON'T DARE PUT MORE WEIGHT ON GATE. GATE CAN COME OFF EASY AS I HAVE NOTED IN FRIENDS TUNDRA WHILE HAULING WITH TAILGATE DOWN. TOYOTA DEALER BLAMED HIM FOR DOING SOMETHING WE HAVE BEEN DOING WITH OUR WORK TRUCKS FOR OVER 10 YEARS. THE GATE PANEL TO ACCESS INTERNAL GATE COMPONENTS IS SO THIN THAT JUST BY PRESSING WITH HAND, I CAN BEND IT. YOU MUST UNDERSTAND THAT A TAILGATE NEEDS TO BE MORE DURABLE IN ITS LATCHING DESIGN, WHICH MY CREWMAX IS NOT, AND DEFINITELY NOT COME APART AT SEAMS BY SOMEONE SITTING ON IT OR BEND AND FAIL. THERE IS A STANDARD IN WHICH I AS WELL AS OTHERS ARE USED TO IN TAILGATE STRENGTH AS I HAD ON 1999 F 150 WITHOUT ANY ISSUES AND WITH THREE GROWN MEN SITTING ON GATE WITH COMBINED WEIGHT OF OVER 650 LBS GATE WON'T BEND AND FRAME DIDN'T COME APART AT SEAMS. I HAVE A MOTORCYCLE THAT I NOW CANNOT USE EXTENDER TO HAUL DUE TO THIS POOR DESIGN. I AM A FIRST TIME TOYOTA OWNER AND I LIKE MY TRUCK OVERALL, BUT IT IS A TRUCK AND I EXPECTED TO USE IT AS SUCH. I LIKE MY TUNDRA VERY MUCH, HOWEVER, I BELIEVE ANY REASONABLE PERSON WOULD CONCLUDE THAT THE TAILGATE IS OF POOR DESIGN, AND QUESTIONABLE STRENGTH FOR ?THE TRUCK THAT IS CHANGING IT ALL?. WE WILL SEE WHAT TOYOTA WILL DO OR NOT DO ABOUT THIS. I HAVE FIXED LATCH AT DEALER TEMPORARY BUT I KNOW THERE IS TSB IF IT HAPPENS AGAIN. MY TAILGATE IS CRACKING ALONG THE INSIDE SEEM. THIS LOOKS TO BE A COMMON FLAW JUDGING BY THE TOYOTA FORUMS ON THE INTERNET. I DON'T EVEN HAVE 4000 MILES ON MY TRUCK, AND HAVE ONLY USED IT FOR LIGHT/MEDIUM DUTY. THIS IS SUPPOSED TO BE A HEAVY DUTY TRUCK AND THIS LOOKS TO BE A SERIOUS SAFETY ISSUE. *TR
