TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT WAS UNABLE TO START THE VEHICLE AFTER SEVERAL ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO DIAGNOSED THAT THE ENGINE AIR INJECTOR VALVE WAS DEFECTIVE AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE INJECTOR VALVE WAS REPLACED AND THE FAILURE WAS REMEDIED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT THE SAME FAILURE HAD OCCURRED ON 3 SEPARATE OCCASIONS. THE LOCAL DEALER GRAY DANIAL TOYOTA LOCATED AT 104 GRAY DANIELS BLVD, BRANDON, MS 39042, AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 25,000. *BF *AS
WE RECEIVED A RECALL FOR THIS VEHICLE FROM TOYOTA TO SAY THE SECONDARY AIR INJECTION SYSTEM VALVE STUCK OPEN, WE CONTACTED THEM, THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER THE MILEAGE, BUT, UNDER THE YEAR OF MANUFACTURE, THIS WAS RELAYED TO US ON TWO DIFFERENT OCCASIONS, VERBALLY, TOYOTA SEEMS RELUCTANT TO PUT IT IN WRITING. THE PROBLEM THEY SAID IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR INSTALLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS ASSEMBLED. WHEN THE SENSOR TRIGGERS, THE VEHICLE LOOSES POWER IMMEDIATELY, THIS CAN BE VERY DANGEROUS WHEN OVERTAKING FOR EXAMPLE. ON BOTH OCCASIONS THE VERBAL MESSAGE WE RECEIVE SAYS TOYOTA WILL NOT REPAIR THE PROBLEM, EVEN THOUGH THEY SENT A RECALL LETTER, AND THE PROBLEM IS CAUSED BY A FAULTY SENSOR INSTALLED WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS MANUFACTURED. SERVICE ENGINE LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING UNDER 30MPH. ENGINE NO LONGER STARTS CORRECTLY. ONLY 51,000 MILES. AIR PUMP ASSEMBLY AND AIR SWITCHING VALVES ERROR CODE. (P0418) KNOWN DEFUNCT PARTS FOR 2007 TUNDRAS WHICH TOYOTA EXTENDED WARRANTY TO 10 YEARS OR 150,000 MILES. WARRANTY NOT SUFFICIENT LENGTH FOR THIS MODEL YEAR FOR LOW MILEAGE VEHICLES. COULD NOT HAVE HAD PROPERLY FIXED UNTIL CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON. HOWEVER, PARTS FAIL AT 50K+ MILES. PLEASE EXTEND WARRANTY TO APPROPRIATE LENGTH FOR THIS ISSUE. NUMEROUS SIMILAR INSTANCES NOTED UPON INTERNET RESEARCH.
WHILE DRIVING THE TRUCK TO LAS VEGAS AUG, 2018 WAS PASSING A LINE OF SEMI'S GOING TO SLOW AFTER PASSING ABOUT 3 OF THEM THE ENGINE JUST STOPPED RUNNING, HAD TO GET TO SIDE OF ROAD FAST, AFTER MAKING IT THERE THE TRUCK WOULD NOT START AGAIN. AFTER AN HOUR OR SO IT STARTED. MADE IT TO VEGAS. THE SAME THING HAPPENED SEVERAL TIMES SINCE THAT DAY ALSO THERE IS NO WARNING LIGHTS SUCH AS "CHECK ENGINE" LIGHT THAT CAME ON.THIS TRUCK WAS BOUGHT NEW IN 2008, WHEN THE FIRST TIME THAT HAPPENED IT HAD 29080 MILES ON IT, I DON'T DRIVE IT THAT MUCH AS I AM RETIRED SO DON'T DRIVE AS MUCH AS I DID BEFORE.THAT TRIP TO VEGAS COULD HAVE BEEN ALL TO DIFFERENT HAD I NOT BEEN ABLE TO GET OFF FREEWAY, BECAUSE THE STEARING AT 70 MPH IS NOT TOO GOOD, COULD HAVE BEEN BAD ACCIDENT FOR MY WIFE AND MYSELF, AND OTHERS THAT MAY HAVE BEEN INVOLVED. TOYOTA DEALER SAID HE NEVER HEARD OF A PROBLEM LIKE THAT WHEN I CALLED THEM. HAVE SEARCHED SEVERAL WEB SITES AND FOUND COMPLAINTS WITH SAME PROBLEM THEREFORE I BELIEVE TOYOTA KNOWS ABOUT IT BUT REFUSES TO REPAIR THEIR PROBLEM. MAYBE THEY NEED A HIGH TOTAL OF DEATHS BEFORE FIXING THEIR PROBLEM. I THINK ITS A FUEL PUMP PROBLEM OR RELATED TO THE ENGINE.
I TOOK MY TRUCK FOR SERVICE AT A TOYOTA TUNDRA AND THE SHOP INFORMED ME THAT MY AIR PUMP WAS DEFECTIVE. I CAN'T GO ABOVE 30 MPH UP HILL AND IT DOESN'T SHIFT CORRECTLY WHEN MY TRUCK IS IN LIMP MODE. THE TRACTION CONTROL LIGHT, VEHICLE SWERVE CONTROL LIGHT, AND CHECK ENGINE LIGHT STAYS ON.
THE EMISSION AIR PUMPS AND VALVES FAILED ON TRUCK WHICH PUT TRUCK IN LIMP MODE WHICH MADE UNSAFE TO DRIVE ONLY ABLE TO GO 20 MPH AND ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT TSB 0329-08 ON HIGHWAY NEEDS TO BE A RECALL
VEHICLE AIR PUMPS ARE CAUSING MY TRUCK TO NOT TAKE OFF CORRECTLY AND WON'T GO OVER 40 MPH GOING UP HILL.
I GOT AN OBD II CODE P2440 SECONDARY AIR INJECTION VALVE STUCK OPEN AS I WAS PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY AND ALMOST GOT STUCK IN THE ROAD. FROM WHAT I'VE READ THERE ARE QUITE A FEW VEHICLES AFFECTED BY THIS BUT I NEVER GOT A LETTER FROM TOYOTA INDICATING THE ELONGATION OF WARRANTY ON THE AFFECTED PART/S FOR 2007-2010 TUNDRA'S AND SEQUOIAS. I'M TRYING TO RESOLVE IT RIGHT NOW WITH TOYOTA BUT THEY HAVEN'T GIVEN ME A FIRM ANSWER AS TO IF IT WAS WARRANTY RELATED OR NOT. *TR

THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHO STATED THAT THE VACUUM SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED HOWEVER, THE FAILURE RECURRED FOUR TIMES. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED EACH TIME. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
CHECK ENGINE CAME ON, TOOK TO LOCAL TOYOTA SHOP, CHECKED CODES, P0012, CAMSHAFT POSITION, "A" TIMING OVER RETARDED-BANK ONE & P0022 SAME FOR BANK NUMBER TWO. ACTIVATED BOTH VVT SYSTEMS & CHECKED OPERATION OF BOTH VVT. ALL WORKING FINE AT THIS TIME. ALL FOUR OIL CONTROL VALVES TEST WORKING FINE AT THIS TIME.CHECKED OIL CONTROL VALVE FILTER TEST WORKING FINE AT THIS TIME. IF CHECK ENGINE LIGHT COMES ON AGAIN AFTER THAT, THEN NEED TO REPLACE CAMSHAFT TIMING GEARS INSIDE ENGINE. HAS TOYOTA ADDRESSED THIS PROBLEM? ARE THERE ANY RECALLS? *JS
I NOTIFIED TOYOTA MOTOR MANUFACTURING OF ALABAMA QUALITY CONTROL IN LATE 2007 AND AGAIN IN EARLY 2008 OF BOTH OF MY TUNDRAS SPEEDING UP ON THEIR OWN. I ACTUALLY WORK AT THE TOYOTA PLANT AND WAS TOLD TO NOT BREATH A WORD OF THIS TO ANYONE THAT IT HAD TO DO WITH MY JOB. I HAVE A LOT MORE INFORMATION ON THIS AND TOYOTA HAS HAD ME GO TO DEPOSITIONS OVER THIS BUT HAVE TRIED TO GET ME TO BELIEVE THEIR WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH THE VEHICLES. I AM NOW COMING FORWARD. *TR
ISSUES WITH TOYOTA'S SECONDARY AIR INTAKE PUMP SEEMS TO BE A MAJOR ISSUE. SINCE 2007, NOW TOYOTA HAS CONTROL OVER THE NECESSARY PARTS AND WILL RELEASE AS THEY SEEM FIT. I HAVE WAITED OVER TWO WEEKS TO GET THESE PARTS AND INSTALLED. AND THE DEALERSHIP SAYS THEY HAVE NO IDEA HOW LONG IT WILL BE COULD BE WEEKS. THEY KNOW THAT THE PUMP HAS ISSUES AND WILL NOT FIX THE PROBLEM TILL IT GOES BAD. AND IF YOUR DRIVING DOWN THE INTERSTATE AND YOU LOSE POWER THAT COULD BE A SAFETY ISSUE. MY TRUCK BROKE DOWN IN MY DRIVEWAY AS I WAS PULLING OUT TO GO ON A 3000 PLUS MILE ROAD TRIP. WISH A RECALL CAN BE ORDERED TO FIX THE ISSUE BEFORE HAND. *TR

2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7L ENGINE P2442 CODE ENGINE IN LIMP MODE. SECONDARY AIR INTAKE VALVE FAILED IN OPEN POSITION. 62000 MILES. THIS IS A KNOWN DEFECTIVE SYSTEM THAT FAILS IF DRIVEN IN WET CONDITIONS DUE TO POOR AIR FAN INTAKE DESIGN. IT SITS IN THE WHEEL WELL AND IS WET ALL THE TIME. THIS LEADS TO WATER BEING PUSHED INTO THE AIR VALVE CAUSING IT TO FAIL. *TR
2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA 4.7. APPROXIMATELY 124,000 KMS ENGINE WENT INITO LIMP MODE. DEALERSHIP DIAGNOSED PROBLEM AS AIR PUMP AND VALVE BANK FAILURE, $4700 REPAIR ESTIMATE. NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY BECAUSE OVER 100,000 KMS. ALSO PURCHASED EXTENDED WARRANTY ON THIS VEHICLE HOWEVER THESE PARTS ARE NOT COVERED UNDER THE EXTENDED WARRANTY. (GO FIGURE) PURSUED THE EMISSIONS WARRANTY WHICH COVERS EMISSION CONTROL PARTS, HOWEVER TOYOTA CLAIMS THIS IS NOT PART OF THE EMISSION SYSTEM EVEN THOUGH THE AIR PUMP CONTROLS EMISSIONS AT VEHICLE START UP. TOOK THE PUMP OFF THE VEHICLE AND DRAINED THE WATER FROM THE POORLY DESIGNED SYSTEM, LUBRICATED THE PUMP AND GOT IT WORKING. TRUCK WENT BACK INTO LIMP MODE AFTER A COUPLE DAYS NOW APPARENTLY VALVE BANK IS STUCK. TOYOTA STILL RECOMMENDS REPLACING ALL THE PARTS FOR $4700. NOT HAPPY WITH TOYOTA THIS SHOULD BE A RECALL THE PUMP IS LOCATED IN THE FENDER WELL DIRECTLY IN FRONT OF RIGHT FRONT TIRE, THE INTAKE PIPE FOR THE PUMP IS DESIGNED SO THAT ANY WATER PRESENT GOES DIRECTLY INTO THE PUMP CAUSING THE SYSTEM FAILURE. IT WOULD BE A PRETTY SIMPLE FIX FOR TOYOTA JUST PUT A 90 DEGREE BEND IN THE PIPE SO THAT WATER CANNOT GET IN AND REPOSITION THE INTAKE HOLE. TRYING TO SELL TUNDRA IF ANYONE IS INTERESTED. *KB
1ST WEEK OF APRIL, 2011, 2007 TUNDRA WENT INTO "LIMP" MODE, HOOKED UP TESTER, SAID P2442 CODE. COMMON PROBLEM, ON THESE TRUCKS, FROM WHAT DEALER TOLD ME. ORDERED PARTS, AT THAT TIME. $1500.00 OF PARTS ORDERED. TOOK 9 WEEKS, TO GET PARTS. A VERY DANGEROUS TRUCK TO DRIVE, WITH THIS SITUATION. CAN'T PARK IT, TO WAIT 9 WEEKS, FOR PARTS, STILL MAKING PAYMENTS. NO POWER, DANGEROUS ON FREEWAY, OR ANY WHERE ELSE. TOYOTA WAS STILL SENDING NEW TRUCKS, TO BE SOLD, WHEN, THEY COULD HAVE SENT PARTS, TO FIX THIS VERY EXPENSIVE, AND DANGEROUS PROBLEM. IF THIS IS AN EMISSIONS ISSUE, SHOULDN'T A RECALL BE MADE, AND AT LEAST PRTS TO FIX, BE REIMBURSED? HAVE PURCHASED 5 NEW TOYOTAS, FOR FAMILY AND BUSINESS, OVER LAST 10 YEARS, WILL LOOK ELSEWHERE, NEXT TIME I TRADE. I WENT FROM DOMESTIC, TO TOYOTA, FOR THE SAME REASON, 10 YEARS AGO. NOW TOYOTA IS ACTING LIKE FORD AND GM, DID, AT THAT TIME./ WILL BUY GM OR FORDS NEXT TIME. TOYOTA HAS TREATED ME LIKE CRAP, AT THE DEALER LEVEL, AND ON THE CORPORATE LEVEL. THESE PARTS ARE ONLY COVERED 3 YEAR/36,000 MILES. TOYOTA KNOWS THAT THESE PARTS, ARE DEFECTIVE!! IF THE PARTS ARE SMOG RELATED, NEED TO HAVE A RECALL!! *TR
2 AIR INDUCTION PUMPS (AIP) AND ASSOCIATED VALUES FAILURE AROUND 60K MILES. ACCORDING TO TOYOTA THE REASON FOR THE FAILURE IS MOISTURE. NEW PUMPS AND VALVES CAN BE INSTALLED FOR $4000 OR IF YOU ARE LUCKY AND YOU ONLY NEED TO REPLACE ONE PUMP AND BOTH VALVES IT ONLY COST $2150. THE NEW PUMPS AND VALUES HAVE BEEN MODIFIED SO THEY SHOULD NOT FAILURE AS FAST AS ORIGINALS. IF THE NEW PUMPS AND VALVES HAD TO BE "MODIFIED" THEN IT LEADS ONE TO BELIEVE THE ORIGINALS HAD A DESIGN FLAW. *TR

THE FAILURE STARTED OUT INTERMITTENTLY, THEN BECAME CONSISTENT. COST $1000 TO REPLACE BOTH VALVES IN EACH AIR INDUCTION BANK. WORRIED THAT THE PUMPS WILL FAIL IN THE NEAR FUTURE. UNHAPPY TOYOTA CUSTOMER. POOR ENGINEERING DESIGN. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT UPON STARTING THE VEHICLE, THE VSC-OFF, FOUR WHEEL DRIVE LOW, CHECK ENGINE AND TRACTION CONTROL WARNING LIGHTS WERE ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT BEGAN TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE BUT THE VEHICLE EXHIBITED FAR LESS POWER THAN NORMAL. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER WHERE THE CONTACT WAS TOLD THAT THE AIR INJECTION PUMP NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED BUT THE FAILURE CONTINUED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE AUTHORIZED DEALER ON VARIOUS OCCASIONS WHERE IT WAS REPAIRED. THE REPAIRS FAILED TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND ASSISTED WITH THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 79,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,500.
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING THE VEHICLE, THERE WAS A SUDDEN LOSS OF POWER. THE VEHICLE WENT INTO LIMP MODE, WHICH WAS A SAFETY FEATURE, BUT THE VEHICLE DID NOT STALL. THE DEALER PERFORMED A DIAGNOSTIC TEST WHICH DETERMINED THAT THE EMISSION CONTROL VALVE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE RECURRED AND THE DEALER STATED THE ENTIRE EMISSIONS SYSTEM NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER AGREED WITH THE DEALERS DIAGNOSIS AND STATED THE WARRANTY WAS NO LONGER VALID. THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED BECAUSE THEY WERE NEVER GIVEN A REASON WHY THE VEHICLE WOULD RESORT TO A LIMP MODE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 59,000 AND THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 137,000.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE AIR PUMP AND VALVE SET FAILED WHICH CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO BECOME RESISTANT TO ACCELERATION ATTEMPTS. THE VEHICLE WAS INSPECTED BY A DEALER AND THE DEALER ADVISED HER THAT THE PUMP AND THE VALVE SET WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AND OFFERED TO PAY FOR FIFTY PERCENT OF THE REPAIR COSTS. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 119,000.
SUDDEN DECREASE IN POWER , DASH LIGHTS COME ON DROVE TO DEALER SHIP , THEY SAID IT WAS THE AIR INTAKE VALVE THAT WAS BAD THEY SAID IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM THEY SAID MOISTURE BUILDS UP AND MAKES THE INTAKE VALVE STICK THEY REPLACED THE VALVE AT A COST OF $1,682.00 HAD I BEEN MERGING ON TO THE HIGHWAY THIS COULD HAVE BEEN VERY DANGEROUS FOR THE VEHICLE WILL ONLY POWER UP TO 35 MILES PER HOUR.*TR
I AM THE OWNER OF A 2007 TOYOTA TUNDRA AND WHILE DRIVING CROSS COUNTRY WITH MY WIFE AND 2YR DAUGHTER THE TRUCK AUTOMATICALLY WENT INTO LIMP MODE WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH AND STOPPED DEAD ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT.TROUBLE CODES WERE PULLED AND FOUND TO BE AIR INJECTION VALVES FOR EMISSION CONTROL UPON STARTUP ONLY .THIS WAS MIDWAY THRU A 2300 MILE TRIP.TRUCK HAS 67000 MILES ON IT AND IT OUT OF WARRANTY SO COST TO ME IS BETWEEN 4000-5000 $.TRUCK SHOULD NOT ENTER LIMP MODE WHILE DRIVING AS IT IS JUST A MATTER OF TIME BEFORE AN ACCIDENT OCCURS. *TR
2007 TUNDRA HAD A HISTORY OF LOOSING POWER, TOOK IT INTO DEALERSHIP AND THEY FOUND AIR INJECTION PUMP AND VALVE SET WERE RUSTED AND FULL OF WATER. AT A COST OF $2000.00, AND THIS IS FOR ONE SIDE ONLY, THE OTHER SIDE CAN GO AT ANY TIME. I UNDERSTAND THESE ARE NOT UPDATED PARTS AND WILL NEED TO BE REPLACED AGAIN. ALL OUT OF MY POCKET. BESIDES BEING A SAFETY ISSUE, THIS A COSTLY REPAIR FOR WHAT I CONSIDER TO BE A DEFECTIVE SYSTEM. THIS NEEDS TO BE A RECALL ISSUE!!!!!! *TR
AIR INJECTION SYSTEM FAILURE CAUSES A CHECK ENGINE LIGHT TO APPEAR AND CAN CAUSE THE VEHICLE TO GO INTO "CRIPPLE" MODE LIMITING THROTTLE AND SPEED TO 40 MPH WHICH COULD BE A SERIOUS SAFETY CONCERN IN SOME DRIVING CONDITIONS. DEALER STATED THEY CURRENTLY HAVE TWO OTHER TUNDRAS THERE WITH THE EXACT SAME PROBLEM THEY.ARE "REPLACING THE AIR INJECTION PUMPS AND VALVES FOR A TOTAL COST OF ~$4000 IF THE VEHICLE IS NOT UNDER WARRANTY ANYMORE THIS IS ALL AT THE OWNERS EXPENSE.
