WHEN THE MOUNT BROKE THE STEERING HOUSING CONTAINING THE POWER STEERING FLUID AND POWER STEERING FLUID HOSES BROKE RESULTING IN LOSS OF STEERING. PICTURES SHOW MISSING MOUNT, BROKEN HOUSING AND HOSES. WOW! NO ONE WAS HURT BECAUSE FAILURE HAPPENED IN CHURCH PARKING. PAYS TO GO TO CHURCH.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THERE WAS NO FAILURE WITH THE ELECTRONIC POWER STEERING UNTIL THE CONTACT RECEIVED A MANUFACTURER RECALL FOR THE POWER STEERING. WHILE TRAVELING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL VEERED TO THE LEFT WITHOUT WARNING. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY EXTREME FORCE TO THE VEHICLE TO GET THE STEERING WHEEL TO TURN. THE DEALER DID NOT INDICATE IF THE COMPONENT WAS DEFECTIVE. IT FAILED A SECOND TIME, WHICH INDICATED THAT THE POWER STEERING SENSOR LOST CONTROL TO THE BODY CONTROL MODULE CAUSING A FAILURE. THE DEALER INDICATED THAT AFTER REPLACING THE POWER STEERING ANGLE SENSOR MORE THAN TWICE, THE BODY CONTROL MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. MY STEERING WHEEL BECAME VERY HARD TO TURN AND I NOTICED I HAD PUDDLES OF SOMETHING UNDER MY CAR WHERE EVER I PARKED. I WAS PUTTING FLUID IN TWICE A DAY JUST SO I WOULD BE ABLE TO TURN MY STEERING WHEEL TO GET BACK AND FORTH TO WORK. I FINALLY HAD THE MONEY TO TAKE IT TO A MECHANIC AND HE SAID THAT I HAD A WHOLE IN MY POWER STEERING LINE OR COOLER. PROBABLY BOTH BUT HE SAID IT WAS SPRAYING EVERY WHERE. I HAVEN'T EVEN HAD THIS CAR FOR A YEAR YET AND I BOUGHT IT FROM A REPUTABLE DEALER. EVEN THOUGH IT WAS USED THEY LOOKED IT OVER VERY WELL FOR ME BECAUSE MY MOM KNOWS THE OWNER. I HAD BEEN DRIVING FOR ABOUT FIVE HOURS AT SPEEDS OF 70 MPH. STOPPED AT A FAST FOOD PLACE AND PULLED IN TO THE PAY WINDOW AND HEARD A CLUNK. TOWED TO A CHEVY DEALER AND HE INFORMED ME THE TIE ROD TO THE WHEEL STRIPPED OUT OF THE CONNECTOR ROD BOLT. THE STRIPPED PORTION WAS ABOUT 1 AND A QUARTER INCHES. I NOTICE A FUNNY SOUND WHEN TURNING THE STEERING WHEEL. I DROVE OVER TO THE DEALERSHIP TO HAVE THEM LOOK AT IT. I WAS TOLD THE POWER STEERING RACK SEALS ARE STARTING TO LEAK. I DID SOME RESEARCH AND FOUND OUT THAT A LOT OF 2007 IMPALA'S IS HAVING THE SAME PROBLEM IN DIFFERENT STATES. I SEE A LOT OF COMPLAINTS TO NHTSA BUT NO ONE IS REQUESTING A RECALL TO FIX THIS PROBLEM I CAN NOT UNDERSTANDING WHY. GMC IS AWARE OF THE PROBLEM. I WAS TOLD BY THE DEALERSHIP I HAVE TO PAY $830.00 + TAX TO REPLACE THE POWER STEERING RACK, SHOULD NOT GMC PAY FOR THIS SINCE THEY ARE AWARE OF THE PROBLEM OR DO SOMEONE HAVE TO LOSE THEIR LIFE WHEN THE STEERING FREEZES UP. THE INTERMEDIATE STEERING SHAFT IS FAULTY ON MY 2007 CHEVROLET IMPALA LTZ. IT CURRENTLY HAS 85176 MILES AS IT IS IN A SHOP. THIS IS THE 10TH TIME ME OR ONE OF MY FRIENDS HAS HAD THIS PROBLEM. IT HAS OCCURRED MULTIPLE TIMES ON THE FOLLOWING VEHICLES: 2009 PONTIAC G6 SPORT 2 (MINE) 37,900 MILES, AND WAS BOUGHT NEW. 2008 PONTIAC G6 SPORT 2 (ROOM-MATES) CAR WAS PURCHASED USED AND HAS 50,076 MILES ON IT. 2009 CHEVROLET IMPALA LT (ROOM-MATES MOMS) 60,000 MILES THE CAR HAS BEEN DRIVEN, IT WAS PURCHASED NEW. THIS IS ONLY ONE OF MANY ISSUES WE HAVE HAD WITH THESE THREE CARS. THE OTHER MAJOR ONE IS THAT THE HEAD GASKETS ON THESE CARS DO NOT HOLD UP, AND GM IS DOING NOTHING ABOUT IT.
