TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE FAILURE OCCURRED AFTER THE VEHICLE WAS SERVICED UNDER NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V400000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM). THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC. 2000 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE IGNITION SWITCH HAS CONSISTENTLY WORE OUT MANY KEYS OVER THE YEARS. *MW THE CONSUMER STATED PERIODICALLY, SHE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM THE IGNITION. THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL AND MADE AN APPOINTMENT AT THE DEALER. HOWEVER, WHEN SHE ARRIVED, THE DEALER STATED THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PARTS. TWO WEEKS, THE DEALER CALLED HER AND SHE RETURNED TO THE DEALER. SHE WAS INFORMED THEY COULD NOT RETROFIT HER CURRENT KEYS TO THE VEHICLE. SHE WAS INFORMED SHE WOULD HAVE TO BUY A FACTORY MADE KEY AT $15.00 EACH PLUS TAX, TO ALLOW THEM TO DO THE RECALL. THE CONSUMER DID NOT BELIEVE THE ISSUE WAS THE KEY, BUT WITH THE IGNITION SWITCH THAT SHOULD HAVE BEEN REPLACED. *JB

THE CONSUMER RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER IN THE MAIL, STATING THE KEY WOULD REPLACED. CHEVROLET CUSTOMER ASSISTANCE CENTER STATED SHE WOULD NOT BE REIMBURSED FOR THE IGNITION SWITCH. *JB

THE CONTACT WAS CONCERNED WITH THE RECALL REMEDY LISTED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 14V40000 (ELECTRICAL SYSTEM), INDICATING THAT THE DEALER WOULD PROVIDE TWO REPLACEMENT KEY RINGS AND KEY COVERS ON ALL IGNITION KEYS. THE CONTACT WOULD LIKE THE MANUFACTURER TO REPLACE THE IGNITION SWITCH TO REMEDY THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT HAD NOT EXPERIENCED A FAILURE.
MY MALIBU IS NOT LISTED ON THE RECALL LIST, BUT I HAVE HAD PROBLEMS WITH THE IGNITION FOR THE PAST FIVE YEARS. 90 PERCENT OF THE TIME WHEN IT WON'T START THE INDICATOR LIGHTS SHOWS THE ANTI THEFT LIGHT. YOU CAN SIT THERE FOR AT LEAST 10 MINUTES AND THE CAR WILL THEN START. IF YOU TRY IT IN LESS THAN 10 MINUTES IT MESSES UP AGAIN AND YOU HAVE TO START THE 10 MINUTES AGAIN. WE HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE MECHANIC NUMEROUS TIMES AND THEY HAVE TRIED NUMEROUS THINGS TO GET THIS TO CORRECT ITSELF. THEY THOUGHT IT WAS IN THE KEY AND WE HAVE GOTTEN NEW KEYS FROM THE DEALER AND THAT DIDN'T WORK. IN THE PAST 6 MONTHS, THE CAR HAS STARTED JUST CUTTING OFF WHILE DRIVING. LUCKILY IT HAS BEEN WHILE STILL IN THE NEIGHBORHOOD AND NO ONE HAS GOTTEN HURT. WE THEN PUSHED THE CAR TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD, WAIT THE 10 MINUTES AND RESTART THE CAR. THIS IS THE SAME THING THAT THE GM RECALL IS FOR OTHER VEHICLES. PLEASE INCLUDE MY CAR IN THE RECALL AND FIX THIS PROBLEM BEFORE SOMEONE GETS KILLED. *TR

THE CAMPAIGN ID NUMBER IS 14V400. THE GM RECALL NUMBER IS 14350. RECEIVED SAFETY RECALL FOR.MY CAR. CALLED OREILLY CHEVROLET AT 520 829 4400 ON OCTOBER 7, 2014 TALKED TO [XXX]. SHE STATED THAT THEY DO NOT.HAVE PARTS AVAILABLE FOR THE RECALL AND SHE PUT ME ON A LIST AND THEY WOULD CALL ME. ON OCTOBER 27, 2014 THE MALIBU COULD NO LONGER START, I BROUGHT THE CAR TO MY MECHANIC TO GET IT FIXED HE STATED THE IGNITION SWITCH WAS FAULTY AND NEEDED REPLACED. SO I TOLD THEM TO REPLACE IT CONSIDERING CHEVROLET NEVER CALLED.AND I CONSIDERED THEY DO NOT HAVE THE PART. I CALLED CHEVROLET CUSTOMER SERVICE AND I OPENED A CLAIM FOR $221.39 ON OCTOBER 28, 2014. THE CLAIM NUMBER IS [XXX]. ON OCTOBER 29, 2014 [XXX] THE DISTRICT SPECIALIST DENIED MY CLAIM, BECAUSE CHEVROLET POLICY DOES NOT PAY OUTSIDE MECHANICS AT ALL. I EXPLAINED I NEEDED MY VEHICLE AND O'REILLY DID NOT HAVE THE PART. SHE EXPLAINED THAT WAS POLICY AND THERE WILL BE NO REIMBURSEMENT. ENGINE SHUT DOWN WHILE TRAVELING. COASTED TO SHOULDER. AFTER WAITING 10-15 MINUTES CAR STARTED UP AGAIN. OVER NEXT TWO DAYS SOMETIMES CAR WOULD START AND SOMETIMES IT WOULD NOT. WHEN IT FAILED TO START IMMEDIATELY AFTER MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS OVER 10-15 MINUTES CAR WOULD FINALLY START. AFTER THREE DAYS OF THIS SITUATION TOOK CAR IN FOR DIAGNOSIS AND REPAIR,AND IGNITION LOCK CYLINDER WAS FOUND TO BE DEFECTIVE AND REPLACED. MECHANIC ADVISED THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM ON ALL CHEVROLET MODELS FOR MANY YEARS. *TR

THE IGNITION TURNED OFF. GOING OVER A RAILROAD CROSSING. LOST ENGINE POWER, AND POWER STEERING, BRAKES. PULLED OVER TO SHOULDER, STOPPED AND RESTARTED CAR. RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE TODAY 9/19/14, WITH THE VEHICLE VIN MATCHING. THE NAME OF THE VEHICLE IS INCORRECT. IT SAYS "CHEVROLET CLASSIC". NOTE: IT IS A CHEVROLET MALIBU. NO WARE ON THE VEHICLE IS THE NAME "CLASSIC", NOR IS IT INDICATED ON OR IN THE OWNER'S MANUAL. THIS HAS CAUSED CONFUSION AND OTHERS MAY BE MISLEADING AS WELL. *TR

FATHER WAS IN LATE 80'S OR EARLY 90'S (DIED AT 97 IN 2013). CHEVY MALIBU WITH ON DASH IGNITION SWITCH WAS STILL STOPPING WHILE ON ITS THIRD IGNITION SWITCH, THE REPAIR COVERED FREE BY GM. I DROVE THE CAR TO TRY TO FIGURE IT OUT THE IGNITION AND HENCE POWER STEERING ( HEADLIGHTS STILL ON) SHUT OFF WHEN GOING OVER THE GRAND TRUNK RAILROAD CROSSING. THE PROBLEM DIAGNOSED WAS THAT THE IGNITION SWITCH WOULD TURN SLIGHTLY TO THE LEFT (1/8 INCH) OR EVEN TURN FULLY OFF DEPENDING ON THE MOMENTUM OF DAD'S LARGE KEY CHAIN HANGING FROM THE IGNITION KEY. IT WAS A DANGEROUS SITUATION SINCE THE POWER STEERING QUIT AND THE POWER BRAKES DON'T WORK WHEN THE ENGINE SHUTS OFF. ACCORDING TO A LOCKSMITH, THE DETENTS ON THESE SWITCHES WERE VERY POORLY MANUFACTURED. SOLUTION WAS TO LIMIT THE NUMBER OF KEYS ON THE KEY CHAIN. *TR
