Battery voltage going up and down. Car will make clicking sound. Car will shut off and start back up. Battery issue will pop up n steering wheel will lock while driving and service battery charging will pop on dashboard.

The Dash board instrument cluster is turning on and off randomly. loosing steering control due to electronic steering. Mechanics cant find a problem and seems to be common with this year Malibu. wont replicate at Mechanics completely random. Just had a new battery installed also and Mechanics say everything is within specs. No warning on this it just happens. 83000 miles on car and it happened about a year ago once and last two weeks several times. The front passenger seat got some water on it and the presence sensor must have deactivated the air bag system. Much to sensitive to be reliable.

I was driving down a busy street one day after work during the early night, and as I went to engage the brakes my whole electrical system started to shut off and on. Once I came to a complete stop it shut off my a/c then proceeded with my radio and lights. I took my foot of the brake in pure shock and back on come my a/c and radio. I proceed to drive with caution and again it starts to try and shut off my vehicles electrical systems. I pull over turn the car off check the battery and fine. Trusting it to make it less than the mile trip left home I drive again no issues, as I am approaching a busy intersection then car begins to go haywire with the electrical systems without the ac on and locks the all eletric steering systems and almost causes me to collide with surrounding traffic. Took to have diagnostic run for codes and none. Purchased another brand new battery which I thought maybe it was defective. Well wasn't NY of the issues because tonight with my family's safety put at serious risk along with any of the many tourist pedestrians and other motorist I experience the same exact thing but within a higher speed limit zone. When I pulled over to park the car it refused to cooperate. It was if my car was being controlled by a hacker and I was fighting for control over the wheel.

When driving this vehicle with ~111,000 miles on it. The infotainment center continually rebooted, causing drops of Bluetooth connection and pauses in the AC. The instrument panel stayed working, but lights turned off. This happened about 6 times in a 20 minute drive on the highway. After exiting the highway and executing a turn the reboot happened again, however the power steering locked up making the car unmanageable. Thankfully nothing was hit by the car! After this incident, driver was rightfully freaked out and won't touch the car again until this is resolved. One week prior the car rebooted once and the engine idled oddly, turned car off and on and worked fine for about a week, then the above incident happened.

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET MALIBU. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 30 MPH, THE STEERING WHEEL SEIZED WITH THE BATTERY NOT CHARGING MESSAGE DISPLAYED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL. THE CONTACT STATED SHE WAS UNABLE TO REMOVE THE KEY FROM IGNITION. ADDITIONALLY, THE WINDOWS FAILED TO OPERATE AS DESIGNED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DRIVABLE. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHERE THE GEAR-BOX WAS REPAIRED AND AN UNKNOWN FUSE WAS REPLACED. THREE DAYS LATER, THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS REPAIRED FOR THE SAME ELECTRICAL FAILURE. DESPITE THE SECOND REPAIR, THE FAILURE RECURRED WITH THE BATTERY WARNING LIGHT ILLUMINATED ON THE INSTRUMENT PANEL WHILE HER HUSBAND WAS DRIVING AT 30 MPH. THE CONTACT'S HUSBAND HAD THE VEHICLE TOWED BACK TO THE SAME INDEPENDENT MECHANIC AND WAS INFORMED THAT THERE WAS ANOTHER ELECTRICAL SHORT IN THE FUSE BOX. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 95,000.

LESS THAN 99,000 MILES... RADIO LIGHT FLICKERS OFF AND ON. VEHICLE GOES DEAD AT RED LIGHT, STOP SIGN OR WHENEVER VEHICLE IS NOT IN MOTION. TOOK VEHICLE TO DEALERSHIP AND REPLACED THE ENGINE COMPUTER MODULE AS REQUESTED. HOWEVER, PROBLEM STILL EXIST BUT MORE WORSE. 'SERVICE POWER STEERING' LIGHT CAME ON WHILE DRIVING ON A CITY STREET BUT BEFORE I COULD MAKE A SAFE TURN, IT BECAME TOO TOUGH TO STEER ALMOST CAUSING AN ACCIDENT. BATTERY GOOD, ALTERNATOR GOOD..NO ONE REALLY KNOWS WHAT'S WRONG WITH THE VEHICLE.

WHEN I WAS ON MY WAY HOME, MY CAR'S WARNING LIGHTS STARTED TO FLICKER, AND 'POWER STEERING SERVICE' AND 'CHARGING SYSTEM' WARNING LIGHTS APPEARED. MY ENTIRE DASH WENT COMPLETELY BLACK AND STEERING WHEEL BECAME COMPLETELY HARD. THE CAR STAYED ON, BUT ALL THE LIGHTS WENT OFF. AFTER A FEW SECONDS, THE CAR SHUT OFF. CAR WOULD NOT RESTART, EVEN WITH A JUMP. MILEAGE ON CAR WAS AT 110,000 MILES. LUCKILY I WAS ON A RESIDENTIAL STREET, SO I JUST PUSHED THE CAR SAFELY IN FRONT OF A RANDOM HOUSE. UPON FURTHER EXAMINATION, THIS APPEARS TO BE AN ON GOING PROBLEM. I'VE FOUND HUNDREDS OF OTHER OWNERS WITH A SIMILAR PROBLEM ON VARIOUS FORUMS. SOME ARE VERY SIMILAR TO MY PROBLEM, WHILE OTHERS ARE MORE DANGEROUS. BELOW, I HAVE QUOTED OTHER OWNERS PERSONAL STORIES AS WELL 'THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 CHEVROLET MALIBU. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE POWER STEERING MALFUNCTIONED AND CAUSED THE STEERING WHEEL TO BECOME VERY DIFFICULT TO TURN IN EITHER DIRECTION. WHEN IT HAPPENS THE STEERING WHEEL BECOMES VERY HARD TO TURN. ALSO THE STEERING WHEEL CUTS THE POWER OFF TO THE INFOTAINMENT SCREEN AND THE BLOWER FAN, IF IT IS JERKED LEFT AND RIGHT QUICKLY WHEN THE CAR IS PARKED. CAR IS CAUSING THE BATTERY TO GO BAD. WHEN THE BATTERY GOES BAD THE WHOLE CAR STARTS ACTING UP; LOSE POWER STEERING, STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP, DASH LIGHTS FLICKER UNTIL TURNED OFF, IN DASH SCREEN TURNS OFF BEFORE CAR DIES. AFTER I BOUGHT THE CAR THREE MONTHS LATER MY BATTERY WENT BAD (CAR STARTED ACTING FUNNY AND GRADUALLY DECLINED IN QUALITY OVER A WEEK'S TIME) I REPLACED THE BATTERY AND NOW 2 YEARS LATER THE BATTERY IS BAD AGAIN. THIS IS A DANGEROUS CAR TO BE IN AS THE WHOLE CAR DIES WHILE DRIVING AND THE STEERING WHEEL LOCKS UP ON THE HIGHWAY. THIS HAPPENS WHILE DRIVING. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY, INTERSTATE, PARKING LOT AND CITY STREET. TWO DIFFERENT BATTERIES SHOULD NOT GO BAD BEFORE THERE LIFE TIME. I BELIEVE THIS HAS SOMETHING TO DO WITH THE CAR ITSELF AND ALSO THE CAR SHOULD NOT BE DESIGNED FOR THE STEERING WHEEL TO LOCK UP AND REMAIN SOLELY ON THE NORMAL BATTERY.

THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 10 MPH, THE BATTERY CHARGING SYSTEM LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT DROVE TO THE CONTACT'S RESIDENCE. THE CONTACT ALSO STATED THAT THE BATTERY WAS COMPLETELY DRAINED. THE VEHICLE WAS THE NOT TAKEN TO THE DEALER. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS CONTACTED AT 800-521-7300. THE MANUFACTURER STATED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT PART OF THE RECALL. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE AND A CASE NUMBER 8-3240086194 WAS PROVIDED. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,000.

CAR BOUGHT FROM THE DEALERSHIP AS USED WITH 28K MILES IN NOV 2014. IN MARCH 2015, THE STEERING WHEEL STARTED TO LOCK WHILE TURNING. MEANWHILE, THE SCREEN AND THE RADIO RESTARTS. THE LOCKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL HAPPENS UNDER DIFFERENT CIRCUMSTANCES, INCLUDING BUT NOT LIMIT TO WHEN PARKING, CRUISING ON THE NEIGHBOURHOOD (SPEED BELOW 30 MPH), CHANGE LANES IN HIGHWAYS (SPEED AROUND 50 MPH), AND SEVERAL TIMES WHILE THE CAR WAS ACTUALLY PARKED WITHOUT MOTION. THE CAR WAS BROUGHT TO THE DEALERSHIP IN APRIL 2015 FOR THE FIRST TIME. IN THE FOLLOWING TWO YEARS UNTIL LAST WEEK (MARCH 2017), THE DEALERSHIP REPLIED "COULD NOT DUPLICATE THE ISSUE" EVERY SINGLE TIME. IN THE RECENT SEVERAL TIMES OF ME VISITING THE DEALERSHIP ABOUT THE SAME ISSUE, THEY REPLACED THE BATTERY CABLES (WITH A CHARGE FOR $750), AND THE FUSE BOX (WITH A CHARGE OF $108), BUT STILL, THE PROBLEM EXISTS. THE LAST VISIT TO THE DEALER ENDS UP WITH THE ROUTINE REPLY OF "CAN NOT DUPLICATE" BUT THEY DID ADMIT THAT THERE IS INDEED AN ISSUE SINCE I SHOWED THEM A VIDEO I RECORDED WHEN THE ISSUE HAPPENS. THE LOCKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL HAPPENS EVERY SINGLE TIME WHEN I TRIED TO ROTATE THE STEERING WHEEL (TO MAKE TURNING WHILE DRIVING OR PARKING OF COURSE), BUT THE ISSUE IS THAT IT DOES NOT ALWAYS HAPPEN. IT ONLY HAPPENS EVERY NOW AND THEN. THAT IS WHY I AM STILL DRIVING IT AFTER TWO YEARS SINCE UNFORTUNATELY, THAT IS MY ONLY CAR. THIS IS EXTREMELY DANGEROUS SINCE THE LOCKING OF THE STEERING WHEEL ONLY LOCKS WHILE TURNING. IT CAN CAUSE ACCIDENTS IN THE NEIGHBOURHOOD AND A LETHAL ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAYS. THE GM OFFERED ME A COUPON FOR SOME CREDIT TO BE APPLIED TO MY NEXT PURCHASE OF A NEW GM CAR BUT I DON'T THINK THAT IS A SOLUTION I CAN ACCEPT. I AM ATTACHING SOME OF THE SERVICE HISTORIES TO SUPPORT MY STATEMENT. THERE ARE MORE BUT I CAN ONLY UPLOAD 5.

TURNING LEFT INTO MY DRIVEWAY, (LUCKILY NOT GOING VERY FAST) THE POWER STEERING GOES OUT SEVERAL TIMES IN A ROW AND THEN THE SCREEN PROMPTED TO "SERVICE POWER STEERING". CHECKED FLUID LEVEL AND IT WAS FINE. READ THAT THERE ARE A LOT OF OTHERS WITH THIS SAME PROBLEM. MY CHILDREN COULD GET HURT! AND I PAID TOO MUCH MONEY FOR THIS CAR TO BE UNABLE TO DRIVE IT AND FEEL GOOD ABOUT IT! SMH!!
