ABS SYSTEMS HAS NEVER WORKED PROPERLY. ABS SYSTEMS CURRENTLY NON-FUNCTIONAL FACTORY RECALL CLEANED WHEEL SENSORS & REQUESTED $2000.00 TO REPAIR PROBLEM. *NM
1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED MAKING A NOISE UNDER SEAT. *TS ***NAR*** THE ABS MOTOR WAS REPLACED. *JB
AFTER CHANGING ALL FOUR BRAKE ROTORS AND BRAKE PADS BECAUSE THEY WERE BADLY RUSTED, MY BRAKES FAILED SOON AFTER LEAVING HOME . A PIN HOLE LEAK DEVELOPED IN THE BRAKE LINE BECAUSE OF RUST. THE LEAK WAS IN A PLACE THAT WAS NOT ACCESSIBLE BY ME. I HAD TO HAVE THE VEHICLE TOWED TO A DEALER FOR REPAIRS. THEY FOUND FOUR BADLY RUSTED BRAKE LINES AND REPLACED ALL FOUR AT A COST OF $953.16. THE TOWING CHARGES WERE COVERED BY MY ALLSTATE AUTO CLUB. I FORGET TO REQUEST THE OLD PARTS. I WAS FORTUNATE THE FAILURE OCCURRED SHORTLY AFTER LEAVING HOME AND DID NOT CAUSE AN ACCIDENT LIKE THE FAILURE OF THE RUSTED BRAKE LINE IN MY 1988 CHEVY TRUCK CAUSED. I REAR ENDED A CAR IN THAT INCIDENT. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 2 MPH INTO A SERVICE DEALER, THE BRAKE WAS APPLIED AND THE BRAKE PEDAL BEGAN TO PULSATE AND THE ABS SYSTEM MADE A BANGING NOISE IN THE FRONT OF THE VEHICLE. THE BRAKE WAS NOT RESPONSIVE AT ALL. THE VEHICLE COLLIDED WITH THE SERVICE DOOR. THERE WAS 3200 WORTH OF DAMAGE DONE TO THE SERVICE DOOR AND 1500 DOLLARS IN DAMAGE TO THE TRUCK THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO REPLACED THE RIGHT FRONT HUB ASSEMBLY. THE REPAIR FIXED THE PROBLEM. THE MANUFACTURER WAS ALSO NOTIFIED. THERE ABS ENGAGE WHEN IT WASN'T NECESSARY. UPDATED 01/10/07. *JB
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED THE ABS ACTIVATES AT SPEEDS BELOW 5 MPH. THERE IS A NHTSA RECALL, # 05V379000, REGARDING THE ANTILOCK BRAKES. THE VEHICLE HAS THE SAME PROBLEMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL; HOWEVER, IT IS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. UPDATED 2/13/2006 - *NM
ANTILOCK BRAKE MODULE FAILURE. *NM
ANTILOCK BRAKES WANTS TO ENGAGE AT LOW SPEEDS. *NM
DT*: THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING 65 MPH ON NORMAL ROAD CONDITIONS, THE WHEELS LOCKED UP. THE VEHICLE SPUN 180 DEGREES RESULTING IN THE VEHICLE FACING THE TRAFFIC. ALSO WHILE APPLYING PRESSURE TO THE BRAKES, IT WENT ALL THE WAY TO THE FLOOR. THE DESIGN OF BRAKING SYSTEM WAS 4-WHEEL ANTILOCK. THE NATURE OF THE FAILURE WAS PERMANENT. THE FAILED PART WAS AVAILABLE UPON REQUEST AND THERE WAS NO REPAIR INVOICE. THE ABS LIGHT ILLUMINATED AFTER THE INCIDENT OCCURRED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO A SERVICE DEALER, WHO DETERMINED THAT THE ABS MODULE NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED.
I HAVE A 1999 CHEVY SILVERADO, WALKED OUT STARTED TRUCK AND THE ABS MODULE FAILED AND RAN CONSTANTLY AS WITH THOUSANDS OF OTHER CHEVY TRUCK OWNER HAVE DONE AS WELL, THIS IS A SHAME. GM NEEDS TO OWN UP TO THEIR MISTAKES AND TAKE CARE OF THIS PROBLEM. THIS IS A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION NOW HAVING ABS IN A SNOWBOUND STATE, ALSO WHAT IF THIS MODULE FAILED GOING DOWN THE ROAD IN A BRAKING SITUATION WHEN IT WAS NEEDED? THIS IS GOING TO CAUSE A LOT OF COLLISIONS. THIS IS A FAULTY PART PUT ONTO HE TRUCKS BY GM TO TRY AND SAVE MONEY, SEEMS FUNNY THAT THE ABS MODULES PRIOR TO THE 1999 MODELS HAVE NO ISSUES WITH THEM WHAT SO EVER. COME ON GM STEP UP TO YOUR MISTAKES. *JB
FAILURE OF ANTILOCK BRAKES. BRAKES COME ON AT LOW SPEEDS ALMOST CAUSING ACCIDENTS. *NM
DT: THERE IS A RECALL ON THE ANTI LOCK BRAKES . THE CONTACT'S VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN THE RECALL DUE TO THE VIN. THE BRAKES GRAB ONLY AT LOW SPEEDS. THE CONTACT IS EXPERIENCING THE SAME SYMPTOMS AS INDICATED IN THE RECALL BUT THE VEHICLE IS NOT INCLUDED. THE VEHICLE HAS NOT BEEN TO A DEALER OR SERVICE REPAIR SHOP. THE CONTACT HAS CALLED CHEVROLET ,WHO OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE OTHER THAN FILING A COMPLAINT. NO REPAIRS OR CORRECTIONS AT THIS TIME. *AK
I OWN A 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO MADE IN THE USA AND THE ABS SYSTEM FAILS TO STOP AT 5 MPH. THE VEHICLE WILL NOT STOP AND THE BRAKE HAS TO BE RELEASED AND PREASSURE REAPPLIED.
MY 1999 SILVERADO PICKUP TRUCK IS HAVING BRAKING TROUBLE WHERE THE ABS SYSTEM KICKS ON DURING NORMAL DRY CONDITIONS. IT HAS CAUSED ME TO HAVE SOME NEAR MISSES WHILE TRYING TO STOP THE VEHICLE.*JB
DT: HYDRAULIC BRAKES PROBLEM 09/04 BRAKE PEDAL IS VERY STIFF AT LOW SPEEDS. THIS CAUSES EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE. A MECHANIC FRIEND STATES IT IS THE SPEED SENSOR IN THE ANTI-LOCK BRAKE SYSTEM. NO WARNING. HAPPENS IN ANY CONDITIONS. INTERMITTENT, HAPPENS UNDER NORMAL BRAKING CONDITIONS. PERMANENT. CAN'T DEPRESS, THE CONSUMER MUST PUMP THE BRAKES WHEN ATTEMPTING TO STOP AT LOWS SPEEDS. THE BRAKES HAVE SERVICED REGULARLY AS WELL AS THE VEHICLE. *JB
AT ABOUT 40,000 MILES MY ABS MOTOR UNDER THE DRIVERS SEAT CAME ON AND WOULD NOT TURN OFF. CONTACTED DEALER, THEY SAID THIS WAS A COMMON PROBLEM AND THE PART NEEDED TO FIX IT COST $900. AFTER INVESTIGATING THE PROBLEM I FOUND THERE WERE THOUSANDS OF 99 CHEVY 1500 OWNERS WITH THE EXACT PROBLEM.
ANTI LOCK BRAKE PROBLEMS; AT SLOWER SPEEDS WHEN APPLYING BREAK, BRAKE DOES NOT HOLD.*AK
ON SEVERAL DIFFERENT OCCASIONS MY 1999 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1/2 TON WOULD HAVE A MALFUNCTION WITH THE ANTILOCK BRAKING SYSTEM. THE PROBLEM WOULD OCCUR WHEN I WAS BRAKING TO STOP AT AN INTERSECTION OR DRIVING INTO A PARKING SPACE. EVERY TIME THE SYSTEM WOULD HAVE THE TENDENCY TO INCREASE IN SPEED WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE. AT ONE TIME IT CAUSED VERY MINOR DAMAGE TO A BUILDING. EVERY TIME IT WAS TAKEN IN FOR SERVICE AT THE LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND CLEANING WAS DONE TO THE ANTILOCK SYSTEM. I READ ABOUT THE UPCOMING INVESTIGATION INTO THIS PROBLEM AND WAS INTERESTED TO SEE IF THIS WILL BE A RECALL TO REPAIR THE PROBLEMS?
AT SPEEDS UNDER 7 MILES PER HOUR WHEN THE BRAKES ARE APPLIED THE ANTI-LOCK SYSTEM ENGAGES AND WILL NOT ALLOW THE BRAKES TO WORK (NO BRAKES WHATS SO EVER AND THE TRUCK KEEPS ROLLING WITHOUT ANY STOPPING EFFECTS AT ALL). *AK

WHEN THE IGNITION WAS OFF THE CONSUMER HEARD A GRINDING NOISE WHICH ORIGINATED UNDER THE VEHICLE. THE CONSUMER CRAWLED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND UNPLUGGED THE ABS AND THE NOISE STOPPED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO THE DEALER WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THE EBCM SHORTED OUT. THE CONSUMER WAS TOLD THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THIS MODEL CHEVROLET. *NM
PARKED MY 1999 CHEVROLET K PICKUP AT A STORE AND JUST BEFORE I TURNED THE ENGINE OFF, THE ABS LIGHT CAME ON. WHEN THE IGNITION WAS OFF, THERE WAS A GRINDING NOISE FROM UNDER THE VEHICLE. APPARENTLY THE ABS MODULE WAS STILL RUNNING. I CRAWLED UNDER THE VEHICLE AND UNPLUGGED IT. WHEN I TOOK IT TO MY GM MECHANIC, HE TOLD ME THAT THE EBCM SHORTED OUT AND APPARENTLY HAPPENS FREQUENTLY TO THIS MODEL. IT COST ME $781 FOR THE PART PLUS LABOR OF $202.50. I WAS UNIMPRESSED, ESPECIALLY TO FIND OUT THAT THERE HAS BEEN SO MUCH PROBLEM WITH THIS AND THAT THERE IS NO RECALL FOR IT. CAN YOU HELP? ISN'T THIS A SAFETY ISSUE? MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 50496 MILES ON IT.*AK
WHILE DRIVING AT AN UNDETERMINED SPEED EMERGENCY BRAKE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. CONSUMER CONTACTED DEALERSHIP ON FOUR SEPARATE OCCASIONS, BUT THE PROBLEM STILL OCCURS. *AK
AFTER TURNING OFF MY TRUCK I HEARD THE ABS PUMP RUNNING AFTER REMOVING THE KEY. I CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT IT WAS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH THE ABS MODULE. *JB
MY 1999 CHEVROLET 1500 Z71 HAS HAD NUMEROUS ABS FAILURES. A FEW VERY CLOSE CALLS. THE DEALER OR MECHANIC HAVEN'T HEARD OF A RECALL. I UNDERSTAND THAT THE ABS MODULE IS TELLING THE SYSTEM THAT ONE WHEEL IS SLOWING DOWN AS IF A SKID ERRONEOUSLY WHICH ACTIVATES THE ABS TAKING THE DRIVER OUT OF THE EQUATION. SOMBODYS GOING TO DIE. CONSUMER APPLIED THE BRAKES AND THE BRAKE PEDAL WENT TO THE FLOOR. TOOK VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR ANALYSIS. THE MECHANIC COULD NOT RESOLVE THE PROBLEM. *AK
WHEN THE ABS ENGAGES, IT CAUSES THE CONSUMER TO LOSE CONTROL OF THE STOPPING DISTANCE WITHOUT ANY WARNING. CONSUMER HAS TO DISCONNECT THE FUSES. *JG *JB
