BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD, AND BRAKES ARE NOT WORKING, IT SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE FREQUENTLY. USUALLY AT LOW SPEED, AND IT HAS MADE IT INTERESTING AT PARKING LOTS, OR STOP & GO TRAFFIC, AND PARKING IN OUR DRIVEWAY. WE HAVE CHECKED EVERYTHING, AND COULDN'T FIND ANYTHING WRONG. GOOGLED THE SYMPTOMS, AMD IT APPEARS THIS IS HAPPENING TO MORE CHEVROLET SILVERADOS THAN MINE, AND THE TECH'S SAY IT'S A BRAKE BOOSTER PUMP ISSUE. I THINK CHEVROLET NEED TO FIX THIS ISSUE, SINCE IT'S HAPPENING TO SEVERAL TRUCKS, IT'S NOT JUST A FLAWED PUMP, BUT MORE LIKELY A PUMP WEEKNESS OVERALL. HAPPENED FIRST TIME A YEAR AGO, WHEN IN A FERRY LANE, AND THE SPEED WAS WALKING SPEED, AND WE BARELY MANAGED TO STOP BEFORE WE HIT THE CAR IN FRONT OF US.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE DRIVING 15 MPH, THE BRAKE PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED AND FAILED TO OPERATE. AS A RESULT, THE VEHICLE CRASHED INTO A TRACTOR TRAILER. THE AIR BAGS FAILED TO DEPLOY. A POLICE REPORT WAS NOT FILED AND THERE WERE NO INJURIES. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO PARK THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT CALLED GENGRAS CHEVROLET AT (860) 748-4355 (585 CONNECTICUT BLVD, EAST HARTFORD, CT 06108) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY WERE UNAWARE OF ANY BRAKE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 68,000.
AT LOW SPEEDS WHILE IN MOTION EITHER IN TRAFFIC, DRIVEWAYS OR PARKING LOTS THE POWER BRAKES WOULD STOP WORKING CAUSING THE TRUCK TO NOT BRAKE PROPERLY. THE BRAKE PEDAL BECAME VERY STIFF AND WOULD NOT STOP. WHILE THIS DID NOT CAUSE ANY ACCIDENTS, IT WAS A NEAR MISS ON SEVERAL OCCASIONS. I TOOK IT TO THE CHEVROLET DEALER WHERE THEY SAID THE BRAKE "VACUUM PUMP HAS FAILED". THEY STATED IT WAS NOT COVERED UNDER WARRANTY AND WOULD COST $700.89. THE PUMP WAS REPLACED ON 11/28/2018, WITH NO OCCURANCES OF THIS ISSUE SINCE. THE TRUCK HAD 59,108 MILES ON IT AT THE TIME OF VACUUM PUMP REPLACEMENT. THE FIRST BRAKE ISSUE WAS AROUND 50,000 MILES AND HAPPENED ABOUT 8-10 TIMES BETWEEN JUNE AND NOVEMBER 2018.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. WHILE PULLING OUT OF THE DRIVEWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL FAILED TO STOP THE VEHICLE. THE CONTACT HAD TO APPLY BOTH FEET ON THE BRAKE PEDAL WITH EXCESSIVE FORCE FOR THE VEHICLE TO ROLL TO A STOP. WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS TURNED OFF AND RESTARTED, IT OPERATED NORMALLY. THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE BRAKE POWER BOOSTER ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO HENDERSON CHEVROLET (240 N GIBSON RD, HENDERSON, NV 89014, (702) 208-9999) WHERE IT WAS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A TECHNICAL SERVICE BULLETIN REGARDING THE VACUUM PUMP. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 51,000.
UNEXPECTED TOTAL LOSS OF BRAKING WHILE BAKING UP, THEN HARD BRAKE PEDAL WITH NO TRAVEL GOING FORWARD. I WAS AT A COMPLETE STOP PUT VEHICLE IN REVERSE TO BACK TRAILER IN AND ALL OF A SUDDEN BRAKE WAS COMPLETELY HARD WITH NOT PEDAL TRAVEL EXTREMELY HARD PRESSING ON BRAKE CAUSE EXTREMELY MARGINAL STOPPING POWER VEHICLE SLOWED SLIGHTLY.
INCREASED BRAKE PEDAL EFFORT, HARD BRAKE PEDAL, AND/OR POTENTIALLY INCREASED STOPPING DISTANCE DUE TO LOW MECHANICAL VACUUM PUMP OUTPUT. CONDITION IS MORE PREVALENT AT LOW SPEED WHEN SOFTLY APPLYING THE BRAKE. DECREASE VACUUM/POWER BRAKE ASSIST OVER TIME, FAILURE TO FOLLOW RECOMMENDED OIL CHANGE INTERVALS COULD CONTRIBUTE TO CONDITIONS. DRIVER'S INFORMATION CENTER (DIC) "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" ALERT WILL ACTIVATE 2-5 MINUTES AFTER DROPPING IN VACUUM LEVEL, AND DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) WILL ALSO BE SET. HYDRAULIC BRAKE SYSTEM REMAINS FUNCTIONAL BUT MAY REQUIRE ADDITIONAL PEDAL FORCE.
I HAD A BRAKE DEFECTIVE VACUUM PUMP ON MY ON 2015 CHEVROLET SILVERADO 1500. I HAD THE VACUUM PUMP CHANGED ON 1/30/2019. MY BRAKES WERE LOSING PRESSURE WHEN I WAS DRIVING SLOWLY. MY BRAKES WOULD LOSE PRESSURE PRIMARILY WHILE I WAS BACKING UP. I HAVE NARROWLY MISSED HAVING SEVERAL ACCIDENTS (WITH OTHER VEHICLES AND PROPERTY) DUE TO THE PROBLEM. ON ONE INSTANCE, I LOST BRAKE PRESSURE GOING DOWN A HILL. BRAKING DISTANCE WAS INCREASED, AND SO WERE MY EFFORTS TO HALT MY TRUCK. I ALSO NOTICED MY BRAKES LOSING PRESSURE AFTER MY TRUCK GIVING ME SEVERAL ALERTS (WHILE DRIVING AND PARKED) ABOUT SERVICING THE TRAILER BRAKE SYSTEM. I AM NOT SURE IF THAT HAS ANY BEARING ON THE VACUUM PUMP. I WILL ALSO BE REPLACING THE TRAILER BRAKE SWITCH ON MY TRUCK. I HOPE THIS FIXES EVERYTHING AND I WILL NOT HAVE THAT PROBLEM AGAIN. I DID SOME RESEARCH ON THE INTERNET AND IT SOUNDS LIKE THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM. THIS HAS BEEN A PARTICULAR PROBLEM WITH MY TRUCK SINCE ABOUT AUGUST OR SO.
THE VEHICLE BRAKING SYSTEM BECOME RIGID AT LOW SPEED (APPROX 3MPH OR SO) AS IF THE POWER BRAKE SYSTEM FAILS. THE VEHICLES STOPPING DISTANCE CHANGES AND THE VEHICLE CONTINUES TO ROLL WHILE PRESSING THE BRAKE PEDAL TOWARD THE FLOOR. THIS ISSUE RESULTED IN DAMAGE TO MY GARAGE DOOR WHILE BACKING THE VEHICLE INTO THE DRIVEWAY. THE ISSUE IS BEST DESCRIBED IN THE PENDING INVESTIGATION REGARDING THE GM BRAKING SYSTEM LOCATED UNDER CHEVROLET SILVERADO RECALLS. I WAS MADE AWARE OF THE INVESTIGATION AFTER RESEARCHING THE ISSUES I HAVE HAD WITH MY VEHICLES BRAKES. THE INVESTIGATION STATEMENT DESCRIBES THE ISSUE AS A PROBLEM WITH DEGRADING BRAKE VACUUM COMPONENT.
DRIVING AT SLOW SPEEDS ESPECIALLY PARKING THE BRAKE PEDAL GETS HARD TO DEPRESS AND BRAKING POWER IS ALMOST NON-EXISTENT. THIS HAS BEEN HAPPENING ON AND OFF SINCE 30,000 MILES AND NOW DAILY AT 60,000. THE ABS INDICATOR HAS GONE ON AND OFF AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT IS ON CONSTANTLY NOW.
MULTIPLE TIMES AT LOW SPEEDS, USUALLY PARKING OR IN STOP AND GO TRAFFIC, I LOSE ALL BRAKING POWER. IT'S TERRIFYING WHEN IT HAPPENS. I HAVE TO PUT MY FULL BODY WEIGHT (I'M A 200LB MALE) ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AND I MEAN I BARELY CAN BRING IT TO A STOP. LUCKILY I HAVEN'T HIT ANYTHING IN THE TIME IT TOOK FROM THE FIRST OCCURRENCE OF THE PROBLEM UNTIL I COULD AFFORD TO GET IT FIXED. THE PROBLEM WAS FIGURED OUT TO BE A BAD VACUUM PUMP. FROM WHAT I CAN TELL ONLINE, THIS SEEMS TO BE A VERY WIDESPREAD ISSUE WITH NOT MANY OWNERS REPORTING THEIR PROBLEMS. THIS IS VERY DANGEROUS, I COULDN'T IMAGINE THAT HAPPENING AT HIGH SPEED, AS REPORTED BY OTHERS. IT'S ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE WHEN THE BRAKES DO THAT. JUST TRYING TO HELP PREVENT SERIOUS ACCIDENTS.
I HAVE A 2015 1500 SILVERADO AND IT IS HAVING BRAKE ISSUES. THE PEDDLE BECOMES HARD TO DEPRESS AND THE TRUCK WILL NOT COME TO A STOP. I HAVE NOTICED THIS SEVERAL TIMES COMING TO A STOP AT LOW IDLE ON THE STREET. I DROPPED IT OFF AT THE DEALERSHIP ONLY FOR THEM TO TELL ME IT WOULD BE $1100 AND GM DID NOT HAVE A RECALL ON IT. THEY SAID THE VACUUM PUMP AND SEVERAL OTHER THINGS WOULD NEED TO BE REPLACED IN ORDER TO FIX THIS.
AT LOW SPEEDS, THE BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY STIFF. IT IS HARD TO STOP VEHICLE. IT HAPPENS IN FORWARD AND REVERSE.
WHILE DRIVING INTO TOWN FROM A WEEKEND TRIP, WHEN TRYING TO STOP FOR A RED LIGHT FROM THE HIGHWAY, THE BRAKE PEDAL IMMEDIATELY BECAME STIFF AND WOULDN'T SLOW THE VEHICLE. IT REQUIRED BOTH FEET PRESSING DOWN HARD ON THE PEDAL IN ORDER TO STOP THE VEHICLE IN TIME. AFTER TURNING OFF THE TRUCK AND RESTARTING IT, THE BRAKE PEDAL RELEASED ITS PRESSURE AND I WAS ABLE TO DRIVE NORMALLY. HOWEVER, WHEN COMING TO A STOP TO BACK INTO MY GARAGE, THE BRAKE PEDAL AGAIN, WAS UNDER PRESSURE, AND WOULD NOT STOP MY VEHICLE UNLESS EXCESSIVE FORCE WAS APPLIED. I WAS ABLE TO STOP THE VEHICLE, JUST FEET FROM THE WALL IN THE ALLEY. I BELIEVE THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN. LUCKILY, I DIDN'T HAVE ANY ISSUES WHILE GOING 75 MPH ON THE HIGHWAY, OR I PROBABLY WOULDN'T BE ABLE TO WRITE THIS. I WAS ABLE TO GET THE VEHICLE TOWED TO MY LOCAL CHEVROLET DEALERSHIP AND WAS TOLD THEY THE VACUUM PUMP WAS THE CAUSE OF THIS ISSUE. AFTER HAVING TO SHELL OUT MORE THAN $700 ON A PART FOR A TRUCK THAT'S A 2015 WITH 63,000 MILES WITH NO OTHER ISSUES, IS RIDICULOUS. THIS IS A MAJOR SAFETY CONCERN WHILE OPERATING THE VEHICLE, AND IT SHOULD BE COVERED BY CHEVROLET. THIS ISN'T A PART THAT SHOULD FAIL ON THE VEHICLE.
BRAKES BECOME EXTREMELY HARD AND HAVE TO PUSH DOWN WITH BIG FEET TO STOP.
BRAKE PEDDLE RANDOMLY BECOMES HARD TO PUSH AND WILL NOT STOP THE VEHICLE AFTER OTHERWISE NORMAL FUNCTIONING. THIS OCCURS GENERALLY AT LOW SPEEDS IN FORWARD AND REVERSE. THIS HAS OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASSIONS BUT RANDOMLY
BRAKE PEDAL IN THE TRUCK WILL OCCASIONALLY GO TO THE FLOOR WHEN THE TRUCK IS IN REVERSE. THE PROBLEM SEEMS TO HAPPEN MORE WHEN BACKING A BOAT TRAILER DOWN A RAMP AT A BOAT LAUNCH WHERE THE TRUCK IS AT AN ANGLE. HAVE LOST BRAKES MULTIPLE TIMES WHEN DOING THAT. FLUID IS FULL IN THE RESERVOIR AND THE MECHANICAL PORTION (BRAKE PADS, ROTORS, CALIPERS) CHECKED OUT AS FINE.
I WAS DRIVING AT SLOW SPEED DRIVING STRAIGHT WHILE PARKING MY TRUCK AND THE BRAKES BECAME ROCK HARD AND COULD BARELY STOP WHICH I CAME INCHES FROM HITTING THE CAR IN FRONT OF ME. I WAS TRAVELING UNDER 5MPH JUST COASTING WITH MY FOOT OFF THE GAS AND WHEN I HIT THE BRAKE NOTHING WAS HAPPENING WHICH I HAD TO PUT A LOT OF FORCE TO JUST BARELY STOP MY TRUCK IN TIME. THE DEALERSHIP I VISITED TOLD ME THE VACUUM PUMP FOR THE BRAKES WAS GOING OUT AND REPLACED IT SINCE I HAVE A 4 MONTH OLD BABY AND NEED A RELIABLE CAR. MY TRUCK ONLY HAD AROUND 50K MILES ON IT AND ALL THE CHEVY CARS MY FAMILY HAS OWNED HAVE NEVER HAD AN ISSUE WITH BRAKE BOOSTERS OR VACUUM PUMPS. APPARENTLY THIS IS A COMMON ENOUGH PROBLEM THAT CHEVY HAS A BULLETIN FOR HARD BRAKE PEDALS DURING LOW SPEED. RUNNING A SEARCH ONLINE FOR THIS ISSUE COMES BACK WITH MANY PEOPLE HAVING THE SAME ISSUE AND QUITE A FEW HAVING REPEATED REPAIRS WITH THE PROBLEM ONLY RECURRING. THE BRAKES ARE NOT JUST HARD BUT PRETTY MUCH NON FUNCTIONAL WHEN THIS ISSUE OCCURS AND REALLY IS PRETTY SCARY WHEN I AM DRIVING AROUND MY BABY THAT THIS COULD HAPPEN AGAIN WITH NO WARNING. FOR SUCH A KEY COMPONENT OF VEHICLE SAFETY, THIS ISSUE REALLY NEEDS A CLOSE LOOK AND A RECALL TO REMEDY THIS KNOWN DEFECT. THERE IS NO REASON THIS COMPONENT SHOULD GO OUT IN A 3 YEAR OLD TRUCK.
WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING STALL SLOWLY AND TRUCK WOULD NOT STOP WHEN APPLYING THE BRAKE PEDAL. BRAKE PEDAL WAS VERY HARD TO PRESS AND USED BOTH FEET TO PRESS ON THE PEDAL TO EVENTUALLY MAKE THE TRUCK COME TO A STOP. CAUSED A MINOR (COSMETIC) SCRAPE ON PASSENGER SIDE FRONT BUMPER (SCRAPED CONCRETE WALL) DUE TO THE INABILITY TO STOP WHEN BRAKE WERE BEING PRESSED.
BRAKES FAILED EXACTLY AS DESCRIBED IN NOV 26 CONSUMER REPORT ARTICLE AND EXACTLY AS CURRENTLY BEING INVESTIGATED BY NHTSA. BRAKES FAILED WHILE IN MOTION AT OUR LOCAL TRANSFER STATION (DUMP) WHILE TURNING - BACKING UP AND PULLING FORWARD. BRAKES FAILED WHEN THE TRUCKS RPM FELL BELOW 800 RPM AND THE VACUUM ASSIST FAILED. THE VEHICLE WAS DIFFICULT TO STOP AND I AM A LARGE MAN. HAVE COPY OF REPAIR BILL FROM DEALER DATED 10/03/18. DEALER WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE ISSUES AND HAD SERVICED OTHER CHEVROLET VEHICLES WITH THE SAME PROBLEM. CONTACTED CHEVROLET DIV/GM. MADE A CALL, SEND AND -MAIL AND WROTE A LETTER. NO RESPONSE TO LETTER OR E-MAIL ASKING FOR A REFUND. RECEIVED A CALL IN RESPONSE TO MY CALL. CHEV REP STATED THEY HAD NO KNOWLEDGE OF THE PROBLEM.?? TOLD THE CALLER THAN ONLY NEED TO CHECK THE INTERNET TO FIND MANY COMPLAINTS. CONSUMER REPORTS THAT ONLY 111 COMPLAINTS HAVE BEEN RECEIVED. I STRONGLY SUGGEST THERE ARE MANY MORE. I SUSPECT THE NUMBER OF COMPLAINTS WILL INCREASE NOT THAT THE "CAT IS OUT OF THE BAG" SO TO SPEAK. PLEASE INSIST ON A RECALL I THINK IT WILL SAVE LIVES. NO NEED TO WAIT UNTIL SOMEONE DIES.
WHILE DRIVING ON THE HIGHWAY APPROX 40 MPH, TRAFFIC IN FRONT OF ME STOPPED SUDDENLY AND I APPLIED AS MUCH FORCE ON THE BRAKE PEDAL AS I WAS PHYSICALLY ABLE TO. THE TRUCK BEGAN SLOWING BUT NOT NEARLY FAST ENOUGH AND I COLLIDED WITH THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. THE BRAKE PERFORMANCE SEEMS TO HAVE DECLINED OVER TIME AND I WAS UNABLE TO STOP IN TIME TO AVOID THE ACCIDENT. THERE APPEARED TO BE PLENTY OF ROOM TO STOP BUT THE TRUCK DID NOT PERFORM AS EXPECTED. I AM REPORTING BECAUSE I READ AN ARTICLE REGARDING A PROBE INTO ISSUES WITH THE BRAKES ON THE YEAR TRUCK THAT I OWN. AT THE TIME I DID NOT THINK TOO MUCH ABOUT IT BUT NOW I BELIEVE THAT THIS BRAKING ISSUE MAY HAVE DIRECTLY RESULTED IN THE COLLISION.
I PURCHASED MY 2015 SILVERADO PRE-OWNED WITH 2,000 MILES IN OCTOBER 2016. IN MAY OF 2018 I WAS TRAVELING THROUGH MULTIPLE STATES. I WAS STUCK IN SLOW TRAFFIC FOR MULTIPLE HOURS DUE TO AN ACCIDENT ON THE HIGHWAY. IT WAS THEN THAT I FIRST EXPERIENCED AN ISSUE WITH MY BRAKES. WHEN MOVING AT A VERY SLOW PACE, THE BRAKES SEEMED TO LOSE THE POWER ASSIST. I TOOK THE TRUCK IN FOR IT'S OIL SERVICE AT CASTROVILLE CHEVROLET ON 6/22/2018. I MENTIONED THIS ISSUE TO THE SERVICE WRITER WHO WAS NOT AWARE OF ANY ISSUES WITH THE SILVERADO BRAKES. AT THE TIME IT WAS COST PROHIBITIVE FOR ME TO HAVE IT INVESTIGATED AND COULD NOT LOSE THE VEHICLE FOR AN EXTENDED TIME. IT HAS HAPPENED MULTIPLE TIMES SINCE THEN, AGAIN ONLY AT VERY LOW SPEEDS, SUCH AS PARKING. I HAVE AN APPOINTMENT ON 11/28/2018 WITH CASTROVILLE CHEVROLET TO HAVE IT LOOKED AT. ALL OF THESE INCIDENTS HAPPENED WHILE IN MOTION. I BELIEVED IT TO BE A VACUUM ISSUE AS IT ONLY HAPPENED AT LOW SPEEDS.
LOSS OF BRAKES 2 TIMES ONCE ON INTERSTATE 40, AND ONCE ON A HILL IN TOWN..BRAKES WENT TO FLOOR .FINELY STOPED.
2015 SILVERADO 1500, 4X4, 41,000 MILES ON ODOMETER. AT SLOW SPEED ON CITY STREET DRIVING STRAIGHT (UNDER 5MPH), COMPLETE LOSS OF ALL POWER ASSISTANCE OF BRAKES. DRIVER NEEDED TO APPLY EXTREME MANUAL PRESSURE AT PEDAL TO GET THE VEHICLE TO STOP AND NOT ROLL INTO THE CAR IN FRONT OF IT. IMMEDIATELY PARKED, CAME BACK ISSUES PERSISTED IN PARKING LOT, BUT THEN WENT AWAY WHEN AFTER SPEED OF APPROX 10MPH REACHED. NO WARNING LIGHTS OR DISPLAY INDICATORS TRIGGERED DURING INCIDENT. ISSUE HAS NOT OCCURRED AGAIN. (APPROX 70 MILES SINCE ISSUE FIRST OCCURRED)
BRAKE PEDAL BECOMES VERY HARD AND BRAKES INEFFECTIVE IF THE PEDAL IS PUSHED AND RELEASED AT IDLE. BRAKE DO NOT START WORKING PROPERLY AGAIN UNTIL THE ACCELERATOR HAS BEEN PRESSED. "SERVICE BRAKE ASSIST" MESSAGE IS DISPLAYED ON THE DIAGNOSTICS SCREEN. DEFINITELY A PROBLEM WITH THE VACUUM PUMP.
NOTICED BRAKES SEEMED TO STOP WORKING PROPERLY AT LOW RPM.HAPPENED WHILE BACKING OUT OF DRIVEWAY. ALSO WHILE SITTING IN TRAFFIC AT REDLIGHT.
