I purchased a pre-owned Chevrolet Silverado Z71, 4WD, off-road, LTZ pickup truck (Model # C1500 k 1500, VIN [XXX] , NAIC # XXX) from Wally Edgar Chevrolet in Lake Orion, Michigan on 3/28/24. It has the V8 – 5.3 L gasoline engine with an 8-speed automatic transmission. The vehicle was, and still is, in very good condition (no scratches, dents, and a good running engine). However, on 10/29/2025 the vehicle started not being able to shift out of 1st gear. I immediately took it to Cruise Transmission in Rochester Hills, Michigan to have it evaluated. They indicated that the transmission “valve body” needed to be replaced at a cost of about $3,000. Their problem was that they couldn’t locate that part anywhere, and said it might be a month or more before it would be available! After not hearing anything for a couple of months (checking-in occasionally), I began to try to find out why that part wasn’t available. When I did a Google search on “can you sue GM if they can’t provide parts for a [XXX] vehicle”, it came back with the fact that there was a class-action lawsuit in progress for transmission issues on the 2015-2019 Chevy Silverado pickup trucks with 8-speed transmissions. When I inquired with two of the main law firms associated with the class-action lawsuit they indicated that I wasn’t a candidate for the suit because my vehicle was out of the warranty period. I indicated that I understood that, but that I wasn’t able to use my vehicle because the part wasn’t available anywhere. I also called several local dealerships to see if they could get the part. All of which indicated that they couldn’t get the part either, and also expressed their frustration with the issue. On 1/6/2026 and 1/7/2026, I spoke with Chevrolet Customer Service who indicated they didn't know when or if the part would be available. I can't afford to throw away an $18,000 vehicle!!! INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
Vehicle has a 10-speed electronic controlled transmission that has been identified having issues in other models. The vehicle is experiencing jerking, hard shifting, and shifting delays. I want my model of vehicle to be included in the recall. Recently had the engine replaced due to another recall.
My wife borrowed my truck and went to Costco, after backing out of the parking spot the truck sputtered and stalled in the lane of travel. The truck would not start and more importantly she was not able to get it into neutral. The truck would simply state "shift conditions not met" and would stay in park. There is no options listed in the manual to get the vehicle into neutral manually. This "shift conditions not met" bricked my truck in the entrance / exit of a busy Costco. What would have happened if this happened on a main road or a freeway?
transmission is not acting up just light for service transmission now will stop shifting soon
At 60,079 miles (just after reaching the 60,000 mile drivetrain warranty limit) received message on dash indicating reduced acceleration accompanied by the check engine light. Message would clear after the truck was restarted. Message came back occasionally over the next few months. After checking the codes I found a P0747 code indicating a problem with the transmission valve body: solinoid A stuck on. I opted to fix it myself by installing a valve body upgrade kit from NextGen Drivetrain. GM valve body is worthless. A $70,000+ truck should be more reliable. Thank you to NextGen Drivetrain for a real solution where GM failed. GM should pay.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while shifting into park(P), the vehicle indicated that it was not in park(P). The contact turned off and restarted the vehicle, and then the vehicle began to work as intended. A dealer was contacted. The vehicle was taken to the dealer to be diagnosed, and the contact was informed that the automatic shift control and gear shifter needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not notified of the failure. The approximate failure mileage was 24,000.
On 09/25/25 at 59,502 miles recall work was completed per NHTSA Recall No. 25V-274, L87 Engine Loss of Propulsion. Dealer paperwork shows that my truck passed the PicoScope inspection and was given the higher viscosity 0W-40 oil. On 12/10/25 at 63,904 miles, with the oil that was changed during the inspection; while traveling on highway NM-52 towing my travel trailer, I experienced a sudden loss of propulsion resulting in my truck stopping in the middle of the roadway. No prior indications of any issues were noted, no check engine lights, no loss of oil pressure, when loss of propulsion occurred. While in the middle of the road I attempted to restart the truck with no start-up. Using gravity, the truck was slowly moved off of the highway backwards. Upon opening the engine hood, a strong odor of burnt engine oil was present. No oil was noted coming out from the engine. When removing the engine oil dip stick it was noted to be steaming and extremely hot to the touch. Due to the location the vehicle it took 2 days to be taken to the dealer. No local vendors were able to pick up the truck to take to the dealer resulting in it having to be personally trailered to the dealer. The vehicle was taken to Bravo Chevrolet and Cadillac in Las Cruces NM. The dealer evaluation of the truck determine that the engine had seized and was replaced under the extended warranty per the same listed recall. This engine failed after passing the required inspections and while utilizing the newly recommended engine oil. This failure could have resulted in an accident due to the nature of the failure, after being led to believe that there were no longer any issues or concerns after passing inspection. Why would there be a failure at that time if the engine passed inspection per the recall? Only cause would be that the remedy action is not properly addressing or correcting the root cause of the failures in these L87 engines.
Vehicle lost power while driving on highway 2days in a row dealer Syed they could not find any problems
Engine light is on with DTC P1098 due to a faulty engine coolant control valve requiring replacement. Vehicle displays warning message “service transmission, unable to shift soon” due to faulty component in electronic shifter requiring replacement.
4x4 automatically engages and disengages after the 6.2 engine recall replacement. Dealerships has no solution to the matter. This makes the truck stop operating at normal 2wd speed and limits the turning radius of the truck since it changes to 4wd
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while driving at undisclosed highway speeds, the transmission unintendedly shifted in and out of gear. No warning light was illuminated. The vehicle was taken to the dealer; however, the failure had not been diagnosed, but the contact was informed that the transmission failure was a well-known failure. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired by an independent mechanic or dealer. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 47,120. The VIN was unavailable.
A search of your site shows I have no unrepaired recalls. That is not true. I had a software update the was intstalled to keep me from going above 7th gear in my 10 speed transmission due to concerns over incidents of transmission/rear end lockup occuring when downshifitng from 8th to 7th gear. This update was done November 27, 2022, at Juneau Toyota, Juneau Alaska 99801. While this is supposed to protect me from a transmission/rear end lockup, it has impacted me in MPG since this updated, especially when towing a travel trailer. My MPG while towing a travel trailer was decreased by 30%. My highway travel MPG has been decreased by 17%. Yes GM is saying they are protecting my self and vechicle, It is costing me a lot at the pump. It has been almost 8 months since the recall updated software was installed and not a word when this will be repaired and I have a 10 speed transmission I purchased from GM back in full operation.
Transmission valve body failing causing limited power and potential accident in middle of the highway.
Driving along reduced power would not shift and lost reverse
The throttle body and valve body failed at 90,500 miles. When this occurred it went into limp mode and I could not travel ov 20 mph. Also would not go in reverse. This was very dangerous for me since most travel need to be done at high speed. Also not being able auto go in reverse has significant potential for danger. This failure has been confirmed at a Chevrolet Dealer. The dealer diagnosed the issue and confirmed the problem. The failure came out of no where with no prior performance issue. The engine light came on and the limp mode message appeared.
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated while pulling into the driveway at approximately 5 MPH, the vehicle started shaking abnormally. The following day, while attempting to reverse out of the driveway, the transmission failed to shift into reverse. The vehicle was towed to the dealer, who diagnosed the vehicle with valve body failure. The vehicle was scheduled to have the valve body replaced. The manufacturer was informed of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 24,000. feb 3
On September 16 2025 sudden loss of acceleration and reduced engine power with check engine light turning on. No issues or symptoms prior. Dealership is replacing the transmission under warranty.
Got Engine Light and Reduced Power Message. Took To My Chevrolet Dealer Engine Codes P0700 and P0747 Which are Transmission Control System Malfunction and Pressure Control Solenoid A Stuck On. When this happens the truck stalls but keeps running in Limp Mode. I was told by Chevrolet Dealer it was a common problem with the 10L80 Transmission and it needed a New Valve Body installed. Because it is a common Problem it could take 2 weeks to 2 Months to come in and would be covered under warranty and DRIVE THE TRUCK UNTIL IT COULD BE REPAIRED,
Valve body failure in transmission at 13,000 miles
The contact owns a 2022 Chevrolet Silverado 1500. The contact stated that while depressing the accelerator pedal, the vehicle lost motive power. Several unknown warning lights were illuminated. The contact stated that on two different occasions, while in the middle of the road, the contact was able to restart the vehicle, and the vehicle operated as intended. The vehicle was taken to a dealer, where it was diagnosed, and determined that the transmission valve body needed to be replaced. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure and was working with the contact to address the failure. The failure mileage was 93,000.
While driving at freeway speeds, my transmission malfunctioned and caused the rear wheels to briefly lock up. This sudden mechanical failure has occurred four separate times in the past month, each time while traveling at highway speeds. The incident creates a serious safety hazard — sudden rear-wheel lockup at high speeds can lead to loss of control, skidding, or collisions. Fortunately, I was spaced far enough from other vehicles during each occurrence, so no crashes or injuries occurred. However, this issue poses a major safety risk to both the driver and surrounding traffic, especially under different circumstances such as wet roads or heavier traffic. The issue appears to stem from the 10L80E transmission, a component widely used in GM vehicles from model years 2020 through 2025. Based on online forums and discussions, this is a known and recurring problem affecting a number of drivers, not just an isolated case. To date: The problem has not yet been diagnosed or confirmed by a dealer or service center, but it is reproducible, as it has happened multiple times under similar conditions. There were no warning lamps, messages, or symptoms prior to each failure — the malfunction occurred without notice. The component is not yet inspected by the manufacturer, insurance, or police, but it is available for inspection upon request. This issue requires urgent investigation by NHTSA, as it may affect a large number of vehicles on U.S. roads. A sudden drivetrain lockup at highway speeds could lead to catastrophic crashes under less fortunate circumstances I am aware of the Safety recall for vehicle years of 2020 -2022 but my specific truck manufacture date falls just outside the dates by a couple months.
Complete transmission valve body failure. 27,000 miles on truck. Unacceptable.
Travel aprox 40 mph. Rear wheels abruptly lock up. Truck skids to a stop. Extremely dangerous situation luckily no accident occurred. Truck is at 72k miles. Warranty is 60k miles. Truck is currently at dealership and they consulted GM engineers at corporate and were told to replace the valve body and it’s $2500 but they will not cover any of the cost. I’m afraid that this wheel lockup will happen again. Especially considering the bandaid fix there recommended. They refused to buy the vehicle back and do not seem the least concerned that my safety possible dead could result from what truly is gm cheaping out on manufacturing the value body from an appropriate metal instead of cheap cast aluminum which is the root cause of all gms transmission issues.
Sudden limp mode check engine, engine power reduced only first gear working no reverse , dealership determined that the valve actuator on the transmission went out.
Check engine light came on 4 wiring harnesses had to be replaced. Had the truck back for 3 days check engine light back on. Two other wires needed to be replaced had the truck back for 1 week and now it needs a new transmission. Chevrolet has made another defective 8 speed transmission
