The 2017 Pacifica will sometimes have a lack of power when trying to accelerate, and/or will jerk or shutter. Other times, mainly when the engine is warm, it will shutter and die when starting the engine. Sometimes it will take two or three restart attempts for the engine to remain running. In one instance in slow moving stop and go traffic the vehicle stuttered and then accelerated toward the car in front and I had to slam on the brakes to prevent a collision. The vehicle has been back at the dealer multiple times and they claim there are not any codes they can use to diagnose the problem. Even when the engine dies it does not cause the check engine light to come on. When they scan the codes they usually find P0171 and P0174, but they say the codes are not active, only stored. I am told the vehicle is current on all power train software but the problem is still occurring almost daily.

The vehicle shut off while driving at a slow speed, 10 - 15 mph. Lost complete power to vehicle as we where making our way through an intersection, it was very difficult to steer and maneuver. We made it across but only to put those behind me at risk. Panicked, I had not realized that on screen a message appeared on the instrument cluster, Put in Park and Start. The vehicle started right up and we were moving again. For more than 2 years we have been dealing with intermittent hard shifting and the dealer, because they are not able to replicate they say they can't diagnose to be able to fix. I don't know if it is related or not but I thought I mention it since its a common customer complaint in the Pacifica Forums. We've learned to live with hard shifting can't really afford to buy a new car now, but this stopping while driving was the tip of the iceberg. I can't have this happen on a freeway with a family of 6. Not safe. This is also a common topic on the Pacifica Forums.

Since I purchased this vehicle used less than a year ago, I have had an issue with rough shifting or the vehicle feeling like it loses power then lurches when it finally shifts. Now over the past couple months I have had it in the shop 4 times, the 4th time it's at a Chrysler dealership. Check engine light comes on and is blinking, car is shaking and knocking terribly. the shaking does subside after you drive a minute and the engine warms up but the problem has progressively gotten worse each time the light comes back on as I do have to continue driving it. Now the dealership states there is condensation in the cylinder, indicated either a blown head gasket or a warped cylinder head but there is no way to know without tearing the whole engine out of the car and tearing it apart. I'm also told that with labor for a new engine from Chrysler I'm looking at about $11,000!!! and due to supply chain issues we don't know how long it will take to get the parts. I've had this vehicle less than a year and I'm over $1000 in on repairs already that have not fixed the overall problem. HELP

May 2022 Crash

While driving, the motor began to vibrate and lose power as if not firing on all cylinders, and acted as if it was going to stall in the lane of travel, causing me to have to pull off to the shoulder abruptly, striking a mailbox. The vehicle does not display any trouble lights or show any error codes on diagnostic equipment at an independent garage. Vehicle idles roughly.

Check engine light appeared on my control panel of my 2017 Pacifica on 3/7/2022. I took my vehicle to Tires Plus to have it fixed. The code that the computer was giving was P000B. It was in the shop for 3 days, they checked and tested all sensors and finally determined that it was R/R CAM PHASER SYL and 0504778AD Timing Solenoid. New parts were installed on 3/12/2022 at $125. I returned on 3/17/2022 after the check engine light came back on, the technicians thought it was a issue with the reset of the check engine light. On 3/19/2022 I returned yet again for the check engine light. Tires Plus was unable to determine what the problem and recommended that I take it to the dealer. On 3/24/2022 I took my vehicle to the dealer for the same issue. They charged my $340 to reprogram and clean the cam shaft sensor. 3/28/2022 the check engine light is on yet again and have appointment to drop back off on Thursday 3/31/2022

TWO ISSUES. FIRST, WHEN ACCELERATING, SOMETIMES THE TRANSMISSION DISENGAGES FOR ABOUT 1-2 SECONDS AND THEN REENGAGES AND CAUSES A SUDDEN JERK MOTION FORWARD. HAPPENS 3-4 TIMES A MONTH. THIS WILL HAPPEN ON BOTH CITY STREETS AND HIGHWAYS. THIS HAS STARTED OVER 3 YEARS AGO. SECOND, THE ENGINE WILL STALL/SHUT OFF AT RANDOM TIMES ON CITY STREETS. IT OCCURS WHEN GOING OVER A SPEED BUMP AND ALSO OCCURS WHEN MAKING A U-TURN. IT TAKES QUICKLY SHIFTING BACK TO PARK, THEN PRESSING BRAKE AND START BUTTON TO START BACK UP. THIS HAS STARTED HAPPENING WITHIN THE LAST 3-6 MONTHS.

Hard shift when down shifting at lower speed that causes intense jerk of vehicle.

Sep 2021

We were about to turn left onto a busy highway. Pulled into traffic and vehicle stalled with 2 adults and 4 children in the car. While stuck in the middle of the high way with oncoming traffic from both sides we started honking the horn and waving traffic to stop. Husband noticed a blinking “D” light on the shifter knob and an alert on the dash that read something like “shift to park”. Due to the incline of the road we rolled backwards off the highway. We luckily were not hit by oncoming traffic but completely terrified by the situation. Had that highway been as busy as it usually is we would be dead. Shifted back to park. Was then able to drive vehicle the half mile home. Brought vehicle into dealership where after 2 weeks they were unable to to recreate issue and found nothing wrong. Stalling with no prior warning is a known recall for this vehicle but the recall was supposedly fixed on January 11th of 2018. This did not fix the stalling issue obviously. We refuse to drive vehicle again and take the chance of killing our family. After many conversations with Chrysler care we are 3 weeks out from incident and they have been of no help. This vehicle is not safe to be driven. After reading many forums there are many complaints of this recall not fixing the issue. Chrysler needs to be held accountable. I refuse to be a test dummy for this vehicle.

VEHICLE WILL NOT GIVE POWER ON TAKE OFF AND WILL NOT GIVE POWER AT 45-55 MPH. THIS HAS CAUSED MANY ISSUES WHERE ACCIDENTS COULD HAVE BEEN CAUSED. TOOK TO MULTIPLE DEALERSHIPS AND THEY BOTH SAID IT WAS THE WAY THE 9-SPEED AUTOMATIC BEHAVED. A VEHICLE SHOULD NOT BEHAVE IN A WAY THAT IS A SAFETY CONCERN. THEY COULD NOT FIX THE ISSUE BECAUSE IT IS THE VEHICLE ITSELF.

ALTHOUGH THE PROBLEM IS NOT THERE WITH EVERY ACCELERATION, THE VAN SEEMS TO BE TUGGING, THEN JUMPING/PUSHING FORWARD, AND THEN RESUMING ACCELERATION. THIS USUALLY HAPPENS AFTER BEING STOPPED AND ACCELERATING TO GO AT AROUND 20MPHS. I HAVE ALSO HAD THIS HAPPEN WHEN TURNING AND MERGING ON TO TRAFFIC AROUND TOWN WHICH HAS CAUSED ONCOMING CARS TO HAVE TO DECELERATE DUE TO MY ACCELERATION DELAY. I'VE HAD THE CAR CHECKED OUT BY THE DEALERSHIP AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE PROBLEM, YET I'M DRIVING AROUND TOWN WORRIED THAT I WILL GET IN A WRECK BECAUSE OF THE RANDOM FAILURE TO ACCELERATE SMOOTHLY. WHAT'S EVEN MORE CONCERNING IS THAT THERE ARE THOUSANDS OF COMPLAINTS LIKE MINE ONLINE, YET DEALERSHIPS ARE UNABLE TO REPLICATE THE ISSUE (ONE EXAMPLE: HTTPS://M.CARCOMPLAINTS.COM/CHRYSLER/PACIFICA/2017/DRIVETRAIN/POWER_TRAIN.SHTML). NOT SURE WHAT ELSE TO DO.

THE PACIFICA HAS A STALLING PROBLEM WHEN TAKING OFF. THEN IT JERKS INTO GEAR REALLY BAD . THIS PROBLEM HAS BEEN ON GOING. DEALERSHIP SUPPOSEDLY HAD FIXED THE PROBLEM, WHEN THE VEHICLE WAS UNDER WARRANTY. IT NOW IS OUT OF WARRANTY AND THE PROBLEM IS STILL THERE.

AS I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE ON A BUSY ROAD IT STARTED TO STUTTER AND SHUT DOWN. I LOST STEERING WHEEL FUNCTION AS WELL AS GAS PEDAL FUNCTION. THE CONTROL PANEL INSTRUCTED ME TO PLACE MY CAR IN PARK TO BE ABLE TO RESTART IT.

Jul 2020

WHEN ACCELERATING AT LOW SPEEDS THE VAN SHIFTS HARD INTO GEAR AND WILL NOT CONTINUE TO ACCELERATE EVEN THOUGH THE GAS PEDAL IS PRESSED. IF I DO NOT LET OFF THE GAS WHEN THIS HAPPENS THE VAN WILL LUNGE FORWARD. THIS HAPPENS IN ALL CONDITIONS AND ON ALL ROAD TYPES. I HAVE TAKEN IT TO THE DEALERSHIP AND THEY SAID IT'S FINE. I CAN NOT REPLICATE THIS ON DEMAND.

THE ENGINE, BRAKES, STEERING ALL SEIZED UP ON TAKEOFF. I HAD TO TURN OFF THE CAR AND TURN IT BACK ON. IT HAPPENED WHILE TRYING TO CROSS A BUSY ROAD. EXTREMELY DANGEROUS AND SCARY. ON OTHER TRIPS, THE GEARS SEEM TO CHANGE ROUGHLY WHEN ACCELERATING AT TIMES AND NOT OTHERS. *TR

WHEN BRAKING WITH LEFT FOOT TO SLOW DOWN OR STOP... IF RIGHT FOOT IS ON ACCELERATOR THE CAR LOSES POWER (ENGINE KEEPS RUNNING THOUGH) AND CANNOT ACCELERATE AND MUST STOP ENGINE AND RESTART TO REGAIN CONTROL. RELATIVE HAD SAME PROBLEM WITH HIS 2017 PACIFICA AND WAS TOLD THAT THERE IS NO FIX FOR THIS PROBLEM. CHRYSLER HASN'T BEEN ABLE TO FIX MINE EITHER. CHRYSLER CLOSED MY CASE BASICALLY SAYING TAKE IT IN TO BE REPAIRED...THERE IS NO FIX. HAPPENING WHEN CAR NEW TO PRESENT.

Jan 2019

MY 2017 PACIFICA TOURING PLUS VAN SHUT OFF THREE TIMES. AFTER THE FIRST SHUT OFF I TOOK IT TO DEALER FOR THIS ISSUE, BUT THEY COULD NOT ABLE TO RECREATE THE "SHUT OFF" , THEY SAID THEY FIXED SOMETHING FOR NOT TO SHUT OFF, BUT RECENTLY ON 7/29/19 AND 7/31/19 IT WAS AGAIN ASKED TO MOVE SHIFT TO P AND SHUT OFF, EVEN I TRIED TO RESTART THE ENGINE, IT DIDN'T AFTER 3 TO 4 TIMES TRY IT WAS STARTED AGAIN. I WAS MIDDLE OF THE ROAD WITH SPEED LIMIT 40MPH, LUCKY NONE OF THE VEHICLE WAS NOT CLOSE. I SEE MANY CASES LIKE THIS WITH 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA, SO I REQUEST CHRYSLER PACIFICA TO FIX THIS ISSUE ASAP BY RECALLING THE AFFECTED VEHICLES. IT IS ALWAYS LIFE THREATENING DANGEROUS TO THE CUSTOMER. OTHER THAN THIS ISSUE (SHUT OFF) THE VEHICLE IS GOOD.

THIRD POST OF SAME COMPLAINT. COMING FROM TURNS OR WHEN SHIFTING IN LOW SPEED, THE VEHICLE RANDOMLY STALLS UPON ACCELERATION THEN SLAMS INTO GEAR, CAUSING THE ENTIRE VEHICLE TO JOLT. HAVE TAKEN VAN TO ORIGINAL PURCHASING DEALERSHIP MULTIPLE TIMES (10+) IN THE PAST YEAR AND A HALF, AND HAVE BEEN TOLD THAT THEY CANNOT FIND A PROBLEM. THIS CATEGORY HAS THE MOST COMPLAINTS ON THE NHTSA WEBSITE ALL OF VERY SIMILAR ISSUE ' SOMETHING MUST BE DONE FROM CHRYSLER.

WHILE TRAVELING AT LOW SPEEDS, ESPECIALLY WHEN MAKING TURNS/ COMING OUT OF PARKING LOTS, OUR CHRYSLER PACIFICA WILL STALL. IT DOES A HARD SHIFT AND JOLTS FORWARD, AS IF A GEAR HAS SLIPPED OR WE HAVE BEEN REAR-ENDED. THE FIRST TIME WE TOOK IT IN FOR THIS ISSUE WAS IN SEPTEMBER OF 2017 WHEN THE CAR HAD ABOUT 32,000 MILES. NUMEROUS 'SOFTWARE UPDATES' HAVE BEEN DONE AND A VALVE THROTTLE BODY WAS PUT ON IN JUNE 2018 TO TRY AND RESOLVE THE ISSUE AFTER MANY FORMER ATTEMPTS. IT WORKED FOR A COUPLE MONTHS, BUT NOW WE ARE EXPERIENCING THE STALL/ HARD SHIFT AGAIN. CHRYSLER'S CUSTOMER CARE HAS BLANTANTLY DENIED ME THE OPPORTUNITY TO SPEAK TO SUPERVISORS AND POINTS THE FINGER AT THE DEALERSHIP, WHILE THEY POINT FINGERS AR CHRYSLER. THE CAR IS 2 YEARS OLD AND DOESN'T GIVE ME ANY HOPE OF EVER REALLY BEING FIXED. WE HAVE BEEN METICULOUS ABOUT MAINTENANCE AND HAVE ONLY TAKEN IT TO CERTIFIED CHRYSLER DEALERSHIPS. OUR FIRST FAMILY CAR PURCHASED TOGETHER HAS BEEN AN EXPERIENCE WE DON'T WANT OTHERS TO GO THROUGH. CHRYSLER IS NOT TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR PRODUCING UNSAFE VEHICLES.

Aug 2018

I HAVE EXPERIENCED SPORADIC INCIDENTS WITH MY 2017 CHRYSLER PACIFICA WHERE WHEN BRAKING TO A STOP, THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN AT 1500 OR SO RPM INSTEAD OF IDLING DOWN. IT REQUIRES EXTREMELY HEAVY BRAKE PRESSURE AND PUTTING MY LEFT FOOT ON THE BRAKE SO THAT I CAN TAP THE ACCELERATOR WITH MY RIGHT FOOT. THAT WILL DISENGEGE THE TRANSMISSION AND CAUSE THE ENGINE TO IDLE DOWN. DURING THESE INCIDENTS THE AUTOMATIC ENGINE SHUT-OFF WHEN THE CARE IS BRAKED HAS NOT BEEN DISENGAGED THE DEALER HAS NOT BEEN ABLE TO LOCATE ANY CODES OR DUPICATE THE PROBLEM. IN SUMMARY, IT IS AN ACCIDENT WAITING TO HAPPEN.
