2017 Dodge Journey Electrical System

The electrical system keeps failing. The front windows the radio ac and power lock and doors glitch on and off. This is daily to put where the radio and ac will not stay on for more than 30 seconds.

In April 2025 I was driving and the abs light came on and windshield wipers went off sporadically. Dodge dealer found nothing wrong. It happened again in June 2025. Dodge dealer had car for 1 week and stated they could not find problem but car was safe to drive. They said to return when problems were more constant. On the morning of 8/14/2025, I dropped someone off at the dr and went to Starbucks. Went inside for order. While driving back to drs windshield wipers went crazy and car started to stutter. I pulled over .4 miles from Starbucks. When I stopped I saw smoke so got out of the car and could see flames. I went to open backdoor for my purse but door would not open. Drivers door was not fully closed so was able to retrieve to call 911. Fire department arrived quickly but front of car was already engulfed in flames. Fire department was able to get Fire out. Car was a total loss.

The actuator for cabin air engages when vehicle is completely off. This is due to a short in the electrical system, causing the actuator to function when power is directly applied. This could cause the electrical system to overheat and cause a fire.

My ac or radio will turn on when ever it wants. I can turn my stuff off up to 18 times in a day. I have no control over my units front or back. I have spoken to neighbors co workers and strangers who have the same car. Every last person I have talked to is having the same issue with this car. I have taken my car while it was under warranty to have the issue taken care of. They will not do anything since they don't witnes it happening. This should definitely be a recal.

I was driving and I smelled smoke, saw smoke coming from my center console. I turned and looked the backside of my center console was on fire.

The contact owns a 2017 Dodge Journey. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the electrical system warning message was displayed and the vehicle inadvertently decelerated. The failure nearly caused a collision. The contact depressed the accelerator pedal five times for seven seconds to reset the vehicle; however, the failure recurred. The vehicle was taken to an independent mechanic who performed an oil change but could not duplicate the failure. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 82,000.

The battery and alternator were replaced and ever since have had issues with the electrical issues. Check engine light randomly comes on, voltage lightning bolt will appear and car will not turn over, battery light has come on while driving. I have been stuck at the store and car has no power. Lights will go off and it will appear to be functioning fine.

AS MY HUSBAND WAS DRIVING FOR WORK FOR THE CENSUS, THE ENGINE LIGHT AND THE MESSAGE NOTIFICATION ENVELOPE BOTH APPEARED ON THE DASH SCREEN THEY FLASHED ON ONCE FLASHED OFF AND FLAMES BLEW OUT FROM BOTH FRONT WHEELS WELLS. MY 2017 DODGE JOURNEY KEEPS GOING THROUGH BATTERIES. 1ST ONE AT APRIL 2018. 2ND ONE JAN 2020. DEALERSHIP JUST KEEPS PUT BATTERIES IN . NOT FIXING PROBLEM. ON DODGE FORUM OTHER PEOPLE ARE HAVING SAME PROBLEMS.

AFTER 65,500 MILES, MY TWO YEAR OLD DODGE JOURNEY HAS A CATASTROPHIC FAILURE. THE HYDRAULIC PUMP BLEW AND CAUSED COMPLETE DAMAGE TO THE TRANSMISSION COSTING ME $3500 TO GET THE COMPLETE TRANSMISSION REBUILT. IT'S RIDICULOUS THIS IS HAPPENING TO A 2 YEAR OLD CAR WITH ONLY 65K MILES ON IT

THE FAILURE CONTINUED AND THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN BACK TO THE SAME DEALER. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE BATTERY FAILED TWO OUT OF THE THREE TIMES IT WAS TESTED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURES. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 21,000.

MY WIFE WENT TO START THE JOURNEY, CAR WON'T START BRAKES WON'T PRESS DOWN ALL I HEAR IS CLICKING SOUND LIKE THE CAR WANTS TO START BUT WON'T, LOOK FOR HELP ONLINE WHAT I GET IS THAT IT'S A SECURITY ISSUE THAT HAS THE CAR LOCKED TRIED TO OVER RIDE BY DISCONNECTING THE POSITIVE CABLE TO RESET BUT NOTHING, I UNDERSTAND THAT THIS IS A COMMON PROBLEM WITH DODGE VEHICLES

WENT TO GET IN CAR DIDN'T OPEN, HAD TO USE THE KEY, TRIED TO START THE CAR IT DIDN'T ,HAD TO USE THE KEY, PUT THE CAR IN REVERSE AS WE WERE BACKING UP AND ALL OF THE SUDDEN THE CAR WENT FORWARD AND RAN INTO A CONCRETE PILLAR IN A PARKING GARAGE, THE CAR WAS PARKED

I HAD MY JOURNEY PARKED IN THE DRIVEWAY, GRABBED MY PURSE AND MY DAUGHTER AND, HEADED OUT TO RUN ERRANDS. I DROVE TO MY DESTINATION, TURNED OFF THE CAR AND WENT TO LOCK IT FROM THE OUTSIDE DOOR HANDLE. THERE WERE NO BEEPS AND THE DOORS WOULDN'T LOCK. I CHECKED MY PURSE AND THE ENTIRE INSIDE OF THE CAR, NO KEY FOBS WERE FOUND. I GOT IN THE CAR AND IT STARTED UP AGAIN. AFRAID TO LEAVE THE CAR IN THE PARKING LOT, I CALLED MY HUSBAND WHO CONFIRMED THAT BOTH MY SET OF CAR KEYS AND HIS SET OF CAR KEYS WERE AT HOME ON THE KEY HOOK. I'M EXTREMELY PUZZLED AS TO HOW MY CAR STARTED WITHOUT THE KEY FOB, LET ME DRIVE IT WITHOUT WARNING ME THERE WAS NO KEY FOB IN THE CAR, AND THEN LET ME RESTART IT SEVERAL TIMES WITHOUT THE KEY FOB. WE JUST PURCHASED THIS CAR USED A MONTH AGO, AND THE SALES PERSON GAVE US BOTH KEY FOBS. I TORE THE CAR APART, GLOVE BOX, CENTER CONSOLE UNDER SEATS, EVERYWHERE AND NO OTHER KEY FOB HAS BEEN FOUND. MY HUSBAND BROUGHT ME MY CAR KEYS AND I STOOD 20 FEET AWAY AND THE CAR STILL STARTED WITHOUT THE FOB IN THE CAR.
