2012 Ford Edge -The passenger door will shut but the alarm that came with the car says that the door is not shut. The alarm will not work when the car detects the door is not shut, so the interior lights will not turn off. Will this affect my battery? When I drive with the sensor on the dashboard states the door is not closed and the interior light will not shut off which becomes a distraction at night. When driving the car, the locks will not work because the dashboard senses the door is not closed. This is a family car with a child still in a car seat. Anyone can jump in my car? There a lot of blogs I found with the same situation, so Ford must know that the problem exists. The door has not been damaged. This is not part of wear and tear because a door is something that need to open and close. The situation is getting worse and worse that when im driving the dashboard announces the closed door is now open and unlocks all my doors and turns on my interior lights on.

DOOR AJAR SENSOR FAILED AND SAYS DOORS ARE OPEN WHEN THEY ARE LATCHED. YOU ARE NOT ABLE TO LOCK THE DOORS WHEN DRIVING WITH THIS ALARM. *TR
"DRIVER DOOR AJAR" WARNING MESSAGE ILLUMINATES WITH DOOR SECURELY CLOSED.
THERE IS AN INSTRUMENT PANEL ALARM THAT SAYS "DRIVER DOOR AJAR" THAT REMAINS DESPITE REPEATED OPENING AND CLOSING OF THE DRIVER'S DOOR. WE PAID ALMOST $600 TO HAVE THE SENSOR REPLACED ABOUT A YEAR AGO, AND NOW IT IS DOING THE SAME THING. THE DEALERSHIP WANTS TO CHARGE US AGAIN TO FIX IT. IT IS A SAFETY ISSUE. NOT ONLY DOES THIS ALARM CAUSE CONSTANT BLINKING AND WARNING TONES WHEN DRIVING, BUT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAY ON AT NIGHT FOR ABOUT 1 MINUTE AFTER DRIVING, AND I'VE HAD THE CAR BATTERY DISCHARGE TWICE WHEN EXITING THE VEHICLE AND TRYING TO LOCK UP FOR THE NIGHT. IF YOU SLAM THE DOOR REPEATEDLY, IT SOMETIMES WILL GO OFF, BUT THERE HAVE BEEN MANY TIMES WHEN I'VE OPENED AND SLAMMED THE DRIVERS DOOR OVER 10 TIMES, AND I JUST HAVE TO LIVE WITH THE ALARM, NOISE, AND DISTRACTION. IT HAS BEEN AN ISSUE - THIS SECOND TIME - FOR ABOUT A MONTH.
DRIVER SIDE DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT AND MESSAGE DISPLAYED AFTER ENTERING OR EXITING THE VEHICLE EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR IS SHUT. PROBLEM OCCURS INTERMITTENTLY, SEEMINGLY MORE OFTEN WHEN OUTSIDE TEMPERATURES REACH ABOVE 70 DEGREES. ATTEMPTS TO OPEN AND SHUT THE DOOR MULTIPLE TIMES OFTEN DOES NOT RESOLVE THE ISSUE. WHEN ISSUE OCCURS THE DOORS DO NOT LOCK AUTOMATICALLY WHEN THE VEHICLE BEGINS MOVING, INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAIN ON. OCCURS WHEN STARTING TO DRIVE THE VEHICLE OR WHEN PARKING. IF PARKING, WHEN THE KEY FOB "LOCK" BUTTON IS PUSHED THE HORN HONKS TWICE RATHER THAN THE NORMAL SINGLE HONK, INDICATING THAT THE SECURITY ALARM IS NOT ACTIVATED. PROBLEM OCCURRED WITHIN THE FIRST 10K MILES AND WAS FIXED BY FORD DEALERSHIP UNDER WARRANTY. PROBLEM STARTED TO OCCUR AGAIN AROUND 35K MILES (JAN 2016).
"DOOR AJAR" SENSOR BEGAN APPEARING ON DASHBOARD SPORADICALLY FOR 1 MONTH. ALL DOORS WERE CLOSED PER NORMAL, DOOR LOCKS WERE NEGATIVE FUNCTION WHILE SENSOR ACTIVE AND VEHICLE WAS EITHER PARKED OR MOVING. AFTER 1 MONTH, SENSOR WAS ON PERMANENTLY. DOOR LATCH/S RR'D AT FORD DEALERSHIP WHERE THIS USED CPO EDGE WAS PURCHASED 13 MONTHS PRIOR. COST OF REPAIR: $540. SERVICE MANAGER HAS ADVISED ME THAT IN THE EVENT OF A RECALL FOR THIS ISSUE, I WILL BE REIMBURSED THE ENTIRE AMOUNT BY FORD. YEAH...RIGHT!

THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 49,000.
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM WORK LAST WEEK, THE DRIVERS DOOR AJAR ALARM SOUNDED, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS CAME ON AND THE DOOR LOCKS DISENGAGED. I PULLED INTO A PARKING LOT TO RE-CLOSE THE DOOR; WHICH SILENCED THE ALARM; BUT THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYED ON. AS I PULLED OUT AND GOT BACK UP TO THE SPEED THE LOCKS WOULD NORMALLY ENGAGE, THE DRIVERS DOOR ALARM SOUNDED AGAIN, INTERIOR LIGHTS REMAINED ON AND LOCKS NEVER ENGAGED, EVEN WHEN PRESSING THE LOCK BUTTON. PULLED OVER A 2ND TIME - WITH THE SAME RESULT. THE THIRD TIME I PULLED OFF THE ROAD, I SHUT THE VEHICLE OFF AND SAT FOR ABOUT 5 MINUTES. AGAIN, THE SAME PLUS THE SHIFT INTO PARK ALARM ALSO SOUNDED AS SOON AS I REACHED SPEED WHEN THE LOCKS SHOULD ENGAGE. I CONTINUED HOME LISTENING TO 2 ALARMS BLARE, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS LIMITING MY VIEW AND THE DOORS REFUSING TO LOCK. WHEN I GOT HOME, THE INTERIOR LIGHTS STAYED ON FOR ALMOST AN HOUR AFTER I GOT OUT OF THE VEHICLE; IT WASN'T UNTIL I PULLED THE EXTERIOR DOOR HANDLE A COUPLE TIMES THAT THE LIGHTS WENT OUT. THE NEXT MORNING, MY DRIVE TO WORK WAS UNEVENTFUL; THAT EVENING ON MY WAY HOME, BOTH ALARMS ARE GOING OFF, INTERIOR LIGHTS ARE ON AND DOORS WILL NOT LOCK. ON THE SECOND EVENING, I NOTICED THE DOOR AJAR WARNING NEVER CAME ON AFTER I STARTED THE VEHICLE UNTIL I REACHED THE SPEED THE DOOR LOCKS SHOULD HAVE ENGAGED.
THE FRONT DOOR AJAR LIGHT STARTED COMING ON AND STAYING ON NO MATTER HOW YOU SLAMMED THE DOOR SHUT (IT WAS NOT AJAR). WHEN STOPPING IT WOULD SAY TO PUT IT IN PARK AND SHUT THE DOOR. WHEN PARKED THE INSIDE LIGHTS WOULD REMAIN ON, DRAINING THE BATTERY, RUINING THE BATTERY.
MY 2012 FORD EDGE CONTINUES TO ALERT AS I AM DRIVING THAT MY DRIVER SIDE DOOR IS AJAR WHEN IN REALITY IT IS NOT. I HAVE VIDEO OF THIS BECAUSE IT DISTRACTS ME AS I AM DRIVING DUE TO THE RED ALERT POSTED ON THE PANEL ALONG WITH THE HIGH PITCH BEEP/ALARM AS THE WARNING. I THAN HAVE TO CONTINUALLY HIT THE RESET BUTTON WITH MY LEFT THUMB IN ORDER TO SILENCE THE WARNING UNTIL IT STARTS ALL OVER AGAIN WITHIN SECONDS. WHILE RESEARCHING THIS PROBLEM, IT SEEMS THAT IT IS VERY COMMON WITHIN THESE FORD VEHICLES. IT WOULD BE GREATLY APPRECIATED IF THIS COULD BE ADDRESSED AS A RECALL. THIS HAS BEEN A PROBLEM WITH MY VEHICLE FOR MANY MONTHS NOW. ONE STAGE OBSERVATION IS THAT THE AFOREMENTIONED MALFUNCTION BECOMES OCCURS MUCH MORE OFTEN ONCE THE TEMPERATURE OUTSIDE EXCEEDS 65 DEGREES OR HIGHER FOR SOME REASON. SOON AFTER PURCHASING A USED 2012 EDGE, THE OPEN DOOR LIGHT ON THE DASH CAME ON AND WOULD NOT GO OFF. ALL DOORS WERE CLOSED. ALSO THE DOORS WOULD NOT LOCK WHEN THE LIGHT CAME ON WHICH BECAME A SAFETY HAZARD PARTICULARLY WHEN TRANSPORTING CHILDREN. BROUGHT IT TO MY MECHANIC AND HE SAID THE DOOR LATCH AND LIGHT SWITCH WAS ONE MODULE AND THAT IT HAD TO BE REPLACED TO THE TUNE OF ABOUT $500. ONCE REPLACED THE PROBLEM WAS SOLVED. LOOKING ONLINE, THIS IS A REALLY COMMON PROBLEM. I FEEL ITS A DEFECT THAT SHOULD BE RECALLED AND REPLACED!

I ALSO HAVE A PROBLEM WITH THE ERROR MESSAGE "SHIFT TO PARK". I BELIEVE THESE COULD BE RELATED. FORD DEALER REPLACED THE SWITCH ASSEMBLY BUT THIS DIDN'T SOLVE MY PROBLEM. THIS NEEDS RECALLED AS THOUSANDS ARE EXPERIENCING THIS SAFTEY ISSUE WITH THIS VEHICLE!

RECEIVING "DRIVER DOOR AJAR" WARNING WHILE DRIVING, EVEN THOUGH THE DOOR IS SECURE. AT ONE POINT I WOULD LOCK THE DOORS AND AS I DROVE THE WARNING WOULD SOUND AND THE LOCKS WOULD POP OPEN. THE DOOR LATCH WAS REPLACED ONCE BEFORE IN 2012 BY THE DEALER WHILE STILL UNDER WARRANTY. NOW THE DEALER WANTS TO CHARGE ME SEVERAL HUNDRED DOLLARS TO REPLACE IT AGAIN.
HAVE HAD THE SAME ISSUES WITH BOTH THE DRIVER DOOR AND REAR PASSENGER (DRIVERS SIDE) LATCH OR SENSOR IMPROPERLY WORKING. BOTH DOOR LATCHES AND OR SENSORS MALFUNCTIONS MAKE THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT IN THE INSTRUMENT PANEL STAY LIT, AND MAKES THE OVERHEAD LIGHTS STAY ON. THE INTERIOR LIGHT STAYING ON MAKES IT DIFFICULT TO DRIVE AT NIGHT AND ALSO DRAINS THE BATTERY.
