Chronological view of owner reports
The vehicle’s touchscreen activates functions on its own without being touched (“ghost touch”). While driving, the screen intermittently selects menus, changes settings, and activates features without driver input. This causes distraction and requires the driver to look away from the road to correct unintended changes. The issue occurs unpredictably and repeatedly, while in motion and standing still, indicating a malfunction of the touchscreen or related electronic system and presents a safety concern due to driver distraction.
Climate control system turns off automatically without driver input. This causes loss of heating or cooling while driving and requires repeated manual reactivation. Issue occurs randomly while driving and has happened multiple times. Restarting the vehicle does not consistently resolve the problem.
The rear back up camera intermittantly fails on this vehicle. About 70% of the time, it displays a black screen. The screen will display "Contact Dealership." This has been occurring for approx. 1 year.
Last week my back up camera said there was a system error and only works sometimes now. I almost hit somebody because it started showing it was working and then it went black and then wouldn’t work again. I also have a video where it starts to show me backing up and then cuts out to being black and seeing contact your dealership. I did contact the dealership and they said there is not a recall in regards to my car specifically.
The screen just completely goes white off and on no matter when you’re driving. I turned the car off and on, and it still would do it.. I don’t know why it happens. Sometimes it also won’t even connect to Bluetooth.. I can turn my phone off and on, and it still won’t connect to it.. something is definitely wrong with it.
My warning sign on the screen always says door ajar, when it is shut, causing me to have to drive with inside lights on, and the bell ringing every so often reminding me, my door is a jar, for the intire trip
My driver door ajar light comes on and stays on if you start the Ford Edge before shutting the door. If you turn off the car then shut the driver door wait a min then start the Edge then the door ajar light does not come on. And sometimes it doesn't matter the door ajar light comes on anyway. It has something to do with either the sensor or door latch. I believe it is unsafe cause you don't know if its just on or if your door is really shut as you drive around. Also when it on while you are driving when stopping at a red light the screen comes on telling you to put the car in park. It doesn't make since to me. I haven't had it looked at cause can't afford the service call. This started happening in Sept 2022. The passenger door had the same problem and was fixed upon buying my Ford Edge. I don't have proof of it but I can show someone.
Doors are registered as open but are closed.
Window switch on driver’s door quit working. Switch for rear passenger windows also not working. Front passenger window switch works. Possible cause is faulty wiring harness in the door (only one blue wire comes loose from the plug, causing the driver’s window switch to go dead.)
Back left door(rear driver) ajar when door is clearly closed.
I was driving when my car suddenly shut off WHILE I WAS ON THE FREEWAY!! the steering wheel became locked and I couldn’t even steer it off the road. It started stalling while driving too.
ON 9-28-2022 I was driving about 45 mph when suddenly my car lost power. The wrench symbol appeared on the dash. I floored the gas pedal, pressed it completely to the floor, and the car sputtered off the road and out of traffic. It was terrifying.
Sunroof will not close. Nothing is obstructing its ability to close. After taking it on to the dealership, they informed me 7 out of 10 Edges have this problem. This is not something I as the consumer has done.
This is a known issue for the Ford Edge. The Voltage Regulator on the Alternator goes out prematurely. The SYNC system will shut down while driving and also disable many features of the vehicle. Such as the radio turning off, doors not unlocking, shifting disabled, headlights turn on dimly, etc. The battery tests normal and so does the alternator, however the regulator within the alternator will not pass through enough charge to the battery to stay charged. Hence, why most people will change the battery and still have the problem later. I understand as parts age they do fail, however this has been a known issue since early versions of the car and it has yet to be corrected. Many of the complaints on NHTSA are related to this, however some people are not aware due to lack of testing the particular item. They will write complaints about radio shutting off or headlights wont turn on(which is really dangerous as well). It often happens while driving, a warning will show up saying "Sync shutting down.....". Driver's are unaware that they are only driving on the battery power at this point because when they get it checked by a mechanic, both the battery and alternator test as they are supposed too. They alternator is still creating voltage however the regulator, not tested individually, won't allow enough to go through to recharge the battery. The most concerning part is if certain electrical components not deemed necessary by the SYNC system are shut down they could lead to more catastrophic incidents. For example; ABS braking not slowing the vehicle, door wont unlock in emergency situation, etc. I had both battery and alternator checked by a tech from Oreilly's Auto Parts and a mechanic from a local auto shop. I was informed that it must be the battery since the alternator is performing, So the battery was changed Friday 08/13/2021. Vehicle was fine until driving Monday 08/15/2021 and warning showed up again.
DRIVER DOOR AJAR INDICATOR REMAINS ON EVEN WHEN DOOR IS FULLY CLOSED. THIS RESULTS IN DOORS NOT BEING ABLE TO LOCK, POSING A POSSIBLE SAFETY ISSUE. THIS IS HAPPENING RANDOMLY. ADDITIONALLY, THE INTERIOR LIGHT ON CONTINUOUS ILLUMINATION WHICH COULD RESULT IN DEAD BATTERY.
PASSANGER DOOR ADJAR LIGHT ON ALL THE TIME AND DOORS WILL NOT LOCK WITH LIGHT ON. A SAFETY HAZARD WHEN IN HIGH CRIME AREAS. HAVE RECALL FOR DRIVERS DOOR BUT NOT PASSANGER DOOR.
IGNITION SWITCH IS STAYING TURNED ON AFTER LETTING GO OF THE KEY WHEN STARTING THE CAR.
HORN DOESNT WORK. CONSTANT DOOR AJAR ON DRIVERS DOOR. PASSENGERSEAT WONT GO BACK.
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2013 FORD EDGE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING AT 50-55 MPH, THE VEHICLE JERKED AND THERE WAS AN ABNORMAL BURNING SMELL DETECTED. THE INSTRUMENT CLUSTER CONTINUED TO RESET. THE CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT WAS ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO LONG-LEWIS FORD 2091 FAIRVIEW AVE, PRATTVILLE, AL 3606 334) 365-2272 WHERE IT WAS DIAGNOSED THE COIL PACK WAS BURNT OUT AND THE PCS SYSTEM NEEDED TO REPLACED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT CONTACTED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 154,000.
DOOR AJAR WARNING LIGHT IS ALWAYS ON THE PASSENGER DOOR, AT NIGHT THE DOORS UNLOCK THEMSELVES, AND INTERIOR LIGHT IS ON CAUSING BATTERY DRAINAGE.
THE DOOR AJAR LIGHT AND SHIFT TO PARK LIGHT AND WARNING SYSTEM ARE CONTINUOUSLY ON DRAINING THE CAR BATTERY OVER AND OVER. I'VE TAKEN IT TO FORD FOR REPAIRS 3 TIMES AND RELAXED DEAD BATTERIES AND IT'S STILL NOT WORKING RIGHT. I HAVE TO SLAM THE DOOR FOR 5 MINUTES TO GET THE LIGHT TO GO OFF AND THE INTERIOR LIGHTS TO GO OFF. I HAVE TO TOGGLE THE SHIFT GEAR FOR A WHILE TO GET THE SHIFT TO PARK WANTING TO GO OFF AND THE ELECTRICAL DASHBOARD TO TURN OFF OR BATTERY WILL DIE AGAIN.
TEMPERATURE BLEND DOOR ACTUATOR KEEPS FAILING. IT WILL EITHER GET STUCK AND STAY ON COLD OR GET STUCK ON HOT AND WON'T SWITCH OVER. I'VE HAD TO REPLACE THIS EVERY YEAR FOR THE LAST 3 YEARS NOW. I SHOULD HAVE TO BE REPLACING A PART LIKE THIS EVERY TIME THE SEASONS CHANGE.
VEHICLE EXHIBITS ILLUMINATED DOME LIGHTS AND DOOR AJAR MESSAGES WHEN DOORS ARE CLOSED AND FULLY LATCHED. RIGHT REAR DOOR. VEHICLE WAS STATIONARY AND DOME LIGHT REMAINED ON FOR A SHORT TIME, BUT "DOOR AJAR" MESSAGE STAYED ON WHILE CAR WAS IN MOTION.
MY AC IS BLOWING HOT AIR ON THE DRIVER SIDE AND COLD AIR ON THE PASSENGER SIDE. *TR
ILLUMINATED DOME LIGHTS AND DOOR AJAR MESSAGES HAVE OCCURRED ON NUMEROUS OCCASIONS. THE ISSUE OCCURS BOTH WHILE THE VEHICLE IS STATIONARY AND WHILE IT IS IN MOTION, WHETHER ON A CITY STREET OR A HIGHWAY, WHILE TURNING AND WHILE IN A STRAIGHT LINE, I HAVE WRITTEN TO FORD MOTOR CO. REQUESTING ASSISTANCE UNDER THE CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM 19N09 AND RECEIVED A LETTER DATED 2/17/20 (SUBJECT CAS-25609702-R5T1D5) FROM FORD DENYING MY REQUEST. I BELIEVE THIS TO BE A SAFETY ISSUE AND THE DOOR LATCHES NEEDS TO BE REPLACED BY FORD.
