I am reporting that my 2017 Ford Edge's rear driver-side brake line was leaking so badly today that my brakes did not function. My brake pedal went to the floor! Thankfully I was near my home and able to get to my driveway and I could pump my pedal enough to stop my vehicle! It is very concerning that Ford knew of this issue and sent the recall letter back in September but has yet to correct this extreme safety hazard for people. Now I am home, unable to get to my office for work and/or my appointments. The first ability for Ford to service my vehicle is this Friday -- so that's today, Wed, Thurs and Friday w/o being able to drive at all. I have to pay $136 to get my vehicle towed over to the Ford dealership and now I'll be paying who know what for my vehicle to get fixed. This same dealership just recently performed maintenance on my back brakes within the last few months and no one there said anything to me to indicate there was any issue with my brake lines. I have the recall notice at home for this issue, and the first they said to me when I called was that Ford had still NOT provided parts to fix this. I consider this a real emergency and I would just say again that I am thankful to God I was close to home, decided to take my dogs down to the Katy Trail close to my house for a walk and only had to drive a slow rate of speed and short distance to come back home w/ minimal traffic on the road. I normally drive a two lane black top to work for about 30 minutes and I am sure this issue would have caused a terrible accident if I had needed to drive to my office this morning. I CERTAINLY HOPE THAT FORD MOTOR COMPANY PLANS TO REIMBURSE ME FOR THIS REPAIR AND TOWING. MY SERVICE DATE IS THIS FRIDAY, JANUARY 9 AT CHRIS AUFFENBURG FORD / LINCOLN IN WASHINGTON, MISSOURI.
On February 14th while operating the vehicle I experienced a braking failure where the brake pedal went to the floor and braking distance was increased. I had the vehicle towed to Ford of Columbus in Columbus, IN on the morning of Feb. 16th where it was confirmed that the rear brake hose had blown due to the associated recall. The failure is exactly due to the recall as acknowledged by both Ford Motor Company and the dealership. Ford Corporate acknowledged (case number XXX) that the repair should not be my financial responsibility yet they continue to demand that I pay out of pocket now for an interim repair because the "official" fix is not ready. By refusing to authorize a no cost repair for a vehicle that has already failed due to their recall, Ford is denying a safety remedy and forcing me to bear the financial burden of a known defect. I do not believe it is my responsibility to pay now and then have to jump through hoops to seek a refund at a "later date" determined by Ford. This is a deceptive and bad faith practice by Ford. I have called Ford Motor Company twice and have utilized the chat once. I have not heard back from the dealership in nearly 24 hours since asking for an update on the status of the repair that I have since approved. I bought the car when it was 1 year old. I have never had the front brake calipers off the car but 2 of the front brake caliper bracket bolts became loose and fell out. It appears that when the car was built that the bolts weren't torqued properly.
Our 2017 Ford Edge that we bought for our daughter to drive to college already had the passenger read brake line blow out and ruin the seals on the calipers and the parking brake actuator had to be replaced. The pedal went to the floor and she couldn't stop at an intersection and she put a hole in the front bumper. There was no warning in the dash to indicate that there was a problem with the brakes. It just failed out of nowhere. We went to the Ford dealer we bought the car from, Alma Ford and asked them what they could do since that part that is recalled is what broke. They said they could not do anything because they have no parts and would not help us. We ended up having to take the car to an independent mechanic and pay out of our own pocket to get it fixed.
Fall of 2024 my right/rear brake line blew. March 3rd 2025 the left/rear brake line blew. Left with no brakes both times and costly repairs. Called my Ford dealer and they said there is no recalls. My mechanic said that both break line failed. There were no warning signs either time. Very scary and dangerous!
So I bought my Ford edge in the early spring of 2025. A couple of months after I had this vehicle the brake fluid light started flashing on my dash so my husband checked the brake fluid level and it was low. We filled it up we proceeded to go on with our life, but then we started having to constantly put brake fluid in it about that same time I went and had an oil change done, and Jiffy Lube was doing the walk around of a car of my car and my husband asked him to please check the brakes because we were having to put an usual amount of brake fluid in car so upon inspection they noticed that the left rear brake line had burst and was leaking a considerable amount of brake fluid upon further investigation that my husband did he found that there was a recall done on the front brake lines and the way he read it was that the rear brake lines were also in question as well what he didn’t really realize at the beginning was that the rear tires or though I’m sorry the rear brake lines were under investigation of being recalled, but not recalled at this time so I’ve had $150 to have my brake lines fixed on the left rear side of the car I had them fixed with cell Ford in new Bern, North Carolina, and when I went back this evening to look at their inspection to figure out exactly what was fixed because when we stopped for gas this evening, my husband, after not being able to stop very well at a stop sign on the way to get gas saw that the left rear brake line had burst and if you hit the brake, the brake fluid would go spraying everywhere again. After we noticed, that is when we started looking for my receipt from a Ford to see exactly which side we had had replaced, we couldn’t remember off the top of our heads I didn’t at any rate. When we found the invoice online to the link that they had sent me the day, my car was getting fixed. We discovered that the left brakes were the ones that had come under recall however an investigation has been opened up on the rear brakes that
Passenger side rear brake line rupture causing loss of braking during normal driving. No warning lamps or indication of failure prior to loss of braking. Defective part is available for inspection as of 7/16/25. No one needs to confirm issue as it was necessary to repair in order to safely drive vehicle. I purchased replacement brake line and performed necessary repairs. No one has inspected repair.
Spontaneous rupture of rear passenger brake line.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while depressing the brake pedal to start the vehicle, the brake pedal went to the floorboard. The contact went to the rear of the vehicle and became aware there was brake fluid leaking near the rear driver’s side tire. The failure had occurred approximately one year ago on the passenger’s side of the vehicle. The vehicle was towed to a certified mechanic who diagnosed the vehicle and determined that the brake lines were fractured in half. The contact was informed that the brake line needed to be replaced. The vehicle was scheduled to be repaired. The manufacturer was informed of the failure and opened a case. The manufacturer referred the contact to the NHTSA Hotline to report the failure. The failure mileage was 105,000.
The rear brake lines completely failed, leaked as I drove down the driveway. Had to have the car towed and had to pay Ford to replace the lines; over $650. The front brake lines had done the same thing a few years ago. These Ford Edges have lots of manufacturing defects. I had to have the entire engine replaced due to fluid leaking into the pistons. Luckily it was under extended warranty, but Ford should have had to replace anyway since it's a well-documented problem. I'd like the rear brake lines to be under recall so I can get reimbursed.
Both rear break lines snapped and leaked within 1 momtj
Applied the brakes at a red light brake pedal went to the floor was a few blocks from home got home found right rear brake hose ruptured and brake fluid leaking out
On the morning of [XXX], I left home in my vehicle for work and felt a difference in brake pressure. After about a block away from home the brake pedal started hitting the floor every time I engaged it. The dashboard indicated that the brake fluid was low, so I returned home to check it and fill up. As I started it up again and engaged the brakes it still hit the floor. On making a visual inspection of the area, pool of fluid was discovered on the ground. I took it to a shop and was informed that the right rear hose was busted. So I had to have it replaced. INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
The parking brake may fail. There is a common problem when looking online.
A couple months ago, my right rear brake line broke. Yesterday, my left brake line also broke. On the first occasion, a warning lamp appeared on my dash, but it did not alert me this most recent time. On both occasions, my breaks were very spongey and I noticed my car take an extended time to stop, and it never came to a complete stop. I also noticed greasy fluid leaking from the rear. The right side has been repaired by a Ford dealership, but I had to pay for it. I'm still awaiting a repair for this 2nd line and I have brought this recall notice to the dealerships attention. I've requested that the repair the part free of charge but it's not resolved yet
*Left rear brake failure. *Hard to stop - spongy brake pedal goes to floorboard when trying to stop. *Independent service center confirmed left rear brake hose leak. *Only the service center inspected the vehicle. *No warning lamps or messages of the problem prior to the failure. The problem first appeared the day of the brake failure. *I had the car towed to the independent service center. They found the left rear brake hose leaking brake fluid. They suggested replacing both rear brake hoses. Once replaced, they did not notice any other issues on the test drive afterwards.
Recently my brakes have become very spongy. We have replaced the brake pads, calipers, rotars and e-brake. They are still spongy and nothing has been resolving the issue. My lines have been bled 3 times now at a cost of $100 each time. I have to pump my brakes to tighten them. Mechanic cannot find any problems. I see there is an open investigation with NHTSA regarding 2015-2017 ford edge braking systems. Not sure if mine is related or not, but something is wrong.
My right rear brake hose ruptured while pulling into my garage. Peddle went soft and I had to throw it in park in order to not hit the wall.
My 10yr old son and I were coming to stop light only to press the breaks and not be able to stop completely until using the parking break. Unfortunately this is the 3rd time since 2021we have experienced the shocking reality of suddenly no being able to stop. (no fluid where parked, no warning lights no sounds) I had my car towed to the dealership and (even though the front break line was replaced twice in the past) the Ford service center was quickly able to identify the cause of the leak and is charging me $1750 to fix the same problem with the back brake hose since recall only covered the front.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while driving at an undisclosed speed, the brake pedal was depressed; however, the vehicle failed to stop as intended. The contact depressed the brake pedal to the floorboard and allowed the vehicle to roll to the shoulder of the road. The vehicle was towed to an independent mechanic; however, the vehicle was not diagnosed. The vehicle was then towed to the dealer where it was diagnosed with a ruptured rear passenger’s side brake line. The contact was informed that the rear passenger’s side brake line needed to be repaired. The vehicle was repaired. The contact stated that the vehicle was serviced several times by the dealer due to brake failure. In addition, the contact stated that the failure reoccurred without warning. The manufacturer was made aware of the failure and a case was filed. The failure mileage was approximately 30,100.
Rear break hoses rupture. My car kept loosing break fluid with no dash board warnings until break pressure became so low that it was hard to stop my vehicle. My vehicle began to move forward while my foot was on the break. This rupture in my break lines put me, my family, other drivers and pedestrians lives in danger. The problem was identified by Ford dealership 1 month after I got the recall on my front break hoses fixed. My car was loosing break fluid when I brung it in to fix the recall and it continued to do so until I brung the car back in for the same problem.
Right rear rubber brake line burst open causing almost complete brake failure. No warning lamps before or after.
Driver side rear flexible brake hose ruptured, passenger side flexible brake hose was bulging and ready to rupture. Drove vehicle approximately 2 -3 miles before brake system warning light cluster illuminated and loss of braking power occurred. Safety recall Notice 20S42/ NHTSA Recall20V-469 (May 2021) issued for front brake lines however, this appears that the rear lines should have been included as well. This vehicle has less than 84,000 miles on it.
The front brake lines burst about a year ago and were services by a repair shop, just a few hours ago the rear passenger brake line suddenly burst-ed in the same manner as the front (that were part of the recall about a year ago) - it might be something worth looking into as this would be a key safety issue. there was no slow leak or damage to the rear brake line prior to it suddenly failing ( with about a 15mm hole near the top of the bend of the rubber near where it meets the steel line.
The contact owns a 2017 Ford Edge. The contact stated that while his wife was driving at 70 MPH and approaching an exit, the brake pedal was depressed but the brakes failed to engage. As a result, the driver crashed into a vehicle in front that was stopped at a red light. The air bag deployed. No warning light was illuminated. A police report was filed. There was a six-year-old daughter occupant seated at the rear driver's at the time of the failure. Both received minor abrasions. The driver had a seat belt abrasion on her collarbone. The daughter had a seatbelt abrasion in the lower abdomen. Medical treatment was needed and both received blood tests to make sure there was no damage to the liver. The vehicle was towed to a lot. The vehicle was not diagnosed or repaired. The manufacturer was not made aware of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 110,000.
