TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 10 MPH, THE VEHICLE SUDDENLY STALLED. AFTER RESTARTING THE ENGINE THE FAILURE RECURRED. THE CONTACT INDICATED THAT DURING THE INCIDENT THE MAINTENANCE SERVICE SENSOR LIGHT HAD ILLUMINATED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 91,320.

ENGINE STARTED IN PARKING LOT WITH A VERY ROUGH IDLE. I THOUGHT IT MAY BE A FUEL ISSUE BECAUSE THE CAR STARTED BUT DIES IMMEDIATELY AFTER GIVING GAS TO THE PEDAL. THE 2009 FORD ESCAPE WAS TOWED TO OUR MECHANIC AND HE REPORTED IT HAS A SEIZED ENGINE ON THE EXHAUST VAVLE #1 CYLINDER. I THEN HAD THE CAR TOWED TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP TO HAVE A NEW FORD ENGINE REPLACED. I AM CONCERNED THIS IS RELATED TO THE GAS THROTTLE RECALL AS THE ENGINE WAS RUNNING FINE AND WITH LOW MILES AND OIL CHANGES EVERY 3,000 MILES IT JUST DOES NOT MAKE SENSE. THE FORD DEALERSHIP COST FOR A NEW ENGINE IS $7000. YOU WOULD HOPE FORD COULD STAND BY THEIR RECALL PRODUCT, BUT THEY SAID NO WARRANTY ON POWERTRAIN. FORD 2009 ESCAPE-CAR STARTED MAKING A SQUEAL NOISE AND BELT STARTED TO COME OFF AND WHEN LOOKED TO SEE THE WHAT WAS GOING ON THE CARS MOUNTING BOSS BROKE OFF OF TIMING COVER AND FELL TO THE GROUND. THE IDLER PULLER MOUNTING BOLTS BROKE FROM COVER AND CAUSED CAR NOT TO BE ABLE TO BE DRIVEN. WHEN CHECKED WITH DEALER WAS TOLD NEVER HEARD OF THIS HAPPENING. WHEN PURCHASED NEW PART. AFTER FILL-UP, ENGINE WENT INTO LIMP MODE AND VEHICLE WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. FIRST INSTANCE HAPPENED WHILE MY DAUGHTER WAS PULLING OUT INTO TRAFFIC AND RESULTED IN NEAR ACCIDENT. THE ENGINE HAS DONE THIS SEVERAL ADDITIONAL TIMES BUT NOT FOR LONG ENOUGH TO SET THE TROUBLE CODE OR LIGHT. THIS RESULTED IN A DANGEROUS DRIVING SITUATION AND ALL VEHICLES WITH THIS POTENTIAL DEFECT NEED TO BE RECALLED. TOOK TO THE FORD DEALER ON 7/28/14 AND THEY ADVISED ME THEY COULD NOT FIX THE PROBLEM UNLESS THE TROUBLE CODES WERE STORED IN THE PCM. 'THIS IS NOT RIGHT- THEY NEED TO REPAIR BECAUSE THE NHTSA STATES THAT ONLY APPROXIMATELY 50% OF THE VEHICLES WITH THIS PROBLEM HAVE TRIGGERED THE TROUBLE CODES. *TR

THE THROTTLE HAS FAILED FOUR TIMES IN TRAFFIC.THE ENGINE HAS LOST POWER AND VEHICLE SPEED HAS BEEN GREATLY REDUCED.I HAVE TAKEN IT TO A FORD DEALERSHIP BUT WAS TOLD IF IT DID NOT OCCUR WHEN I BROUGHT IT IN THAT FORD MOTOR CO.WOULD NOT REPLACE OR REPAIR THE THROTTLE BODY. TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THE CONTACT STATED WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH, THE ENGINE STALLED AND THE CHECK ENGINE LIGHT ILLUMINATED. THE CONTACT MERGED TO AN EMERGENCY LANE WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TURN OFF AND AFTER RESTARTING IT RESUME NORMAL FUNCTION. ALSO, THE CONTACT NOTICED THAT WHEN THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL WAS DEPRESSED SLOWLY, THE VEHICLE WOULD LUNGE FORWARD. THE FAILURE RECURRED MULTIPLE TIMES. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A CUSTOMER SATISFACTION PROGRAM NOTIFICATION RELATED TO THE FAILURE THAT THE VEHICLE WAS EXHIBITING. HOWEVER, THE DEALER REFUSED TO PROVIDE THE REPAIRS LISTED SINCE THE FAILURE CODE DID NOT SHOW DURING THE DIAGNOSIS. ALSO, THE VEHICLE WAS TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT MECHANIC WHO WAS UNABLE TO DIAGNOSE THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND EXPLAINED THAT THEY WERE NOT OBLIGATED TO HONOR THE CAMPAIGN UNLESS THE CODES WERE AVAILABLE DURING THE DIAGNOSIS. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 98,500.

ON THE WAY TO SCHOOL AROUND 7:50 AM, MY SON (NEW DRIVER) STOPPED AT A TRAFFIC LIGHT IN THE MIDDLE OF OUR TOWN. HE WAS FIRST IN LINE. ONCE THE LIGHT TURNED GREEN, HE PRESSED THE GAS PEDAL AND THE TRUCK STARTED TO MOVE FORWARD SLOWLY AND THEN STOPPED IN THE MIDDLE OF THE INTERSECTION. HE SAID HE WAS PUSHING THE GAS PEDAL, BUT THE ENGINE WASN'T RESPONDING. THE ENGINE WAS STILL RUNNING, SO HE TRIED PRESSING THE PEDAL MULTIPLE TIMES AND STILL GOT NO RESPONSE. HE PUT THE TRUCK IN PARK AND TURNED OFF THE ENGINE. HE RESTARTED THE TRUCK AND THE GAS PEDAL BEGAN TO RESPOND AND HE WAS ABLE TO PROCEED THROUGH THE INTERSECTION. UPON DOING OUR OWN INVESTIGATIONS AND RESEARCH, WE HAD THE THROTTLE BODY REPLACED LAST WEEKEND (NOT INEXPENSIVELY). SO FAR, THE PROBLEM HAS NOT RETURNED, BUT THE INCIDENT HAS SHAKEN OUR FAITH IN THAT VEHICLE. WE'RE VERY CONCERNED THAT IT COULD LEAVE HIM IN A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION AGAIN. THIS SEEMS TO BE A KNOWN AND EXTREMELY DANGEROUS PROBLEM. PLEASE RECALL THIS VEHICLE AND FIX THIS PART BEFORE SOMEONE IS SERIOUSLY AND UNNECESSARILY INJURED (OR WORSE).

I HAVE A 2009 FORD ESCAPE. THIS HAS HAPPENED MANY, MANY TIMES, I DO NOT EVEN REMEMBER THE FIRST DATE OF INCIDENT ANYMORE (ABOUT 2 YEARS AGO) - THE MOST RECENT WAS 1-27-2014. AS I AM AT A RED LIGHT OR STOP SIGN AND ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, MY ENGINE STUTTERS AND CHOKES, OCCASIONALLY GIVES A TINY LITTLE "POP" SOUND, SOMETIMES STALLING RIGHT IN A TRAFFIC LANE. WHEN I RESTART IT, THERE IS NO IMMEDIATE PROBLEM. THIS IS RANDOM, AND DOES NOT HAPPEN EVERY DAY. I HAVE REPORTED IT TO MY DEALER A COUPLE OF TIMES IN THE PAST, BUT THEY COULD NOT FIND ANY FAILURE CODES, SO THEY DID NOT REPAIR ANYTHING. I AM TAKING IT IN AGAIN NEXT WEEK FOR THIS SAME PROBLEM - THE SERVICE MANAGER SAID IT SOUNDS LIKE A THROTTLE BODY ISSUE, AND WILL CHECK IT OUT ONCE AGAIN TO SEE IF THERE ARE ANY FAILURE CODES SHOWING THIS TIME. I WAS RUNNING SOME ERRANDS AND AS I WAS ON MY WAY TO THE GROCERY STORE MY 2009 FORD ESCAPE SHUT DOWN. I WAS ALMOST IN THE MIDDLE OF AN INTERSECTION WHEN IT HAPPENED. IT LASTED FOR ABOUT 5 SECONDS BEFORE TURNING BACK ON. I WAS ABLE TO PULL INTO A PARKING LOT AND I SHUT OFF THE ENGINE THEN AFTER A FEW MOMENTS I RESTARTED IT. LUCKILY THAT HAS BEEN THE ONLY TIME IT HAS HAPPENED BUT I STILL WORRY ABOUT IT DOING THE SAME THING AGAIN. AT THE TIME I WAS SO SHAKEN UP THAT I WENT STRAIGHT HOME BECAUSE I DID NOT WANT TO GET STRANDED. VEHICLE LOOSES POWER AND MUST PULL TO THE SIDE OF THE ROAD. THE ENGINE CONTINUES TO RUN ROUGHLY BUT NO POWER GOES TO THE WHEELS. ONCE STOPPED I TURN VEHICLE OFF FOR A MINUTE. ONCE RESTARTED THE VEHICLE SEEMS TO RUN OKAY. BUT IT HAPPENED 3 TIMES ON 7/8/2013. THE CODE IS P2111. I TOOK IT TO THE DEALER AND THE PART IS ON BACK ORDER SO I DO NOT KNOW WHEN THIS WILL BE RESOLVED. THIS IS MY ONLY CAR AND I FEEL IT IS UNSAFE. I WAS DRIVING MY VEHICLE IN THE CENTER SOUTHBOUND LANE ON ROUTE 93 THROUGH THE THOMAS P. O'NEILL TUNNEL IN BOSTON WHEN ALL OF A SUDDEN, WITHOUT ANY WARNING, MY CAR STALLED. THE RED ENGINE LIGHT AND OIL LIGHT CAME ON AND THE CAR BEGAN DECELERATING. THERE WAS A TREMENDOUS AMOUNT OF TRAFFIC AND I AM UNBELIEVABLY LUCKY TO HAVE AVOIDED AN ACCIDENT. I GUIDED THE CAR TO THE RIGHT LANE (THERE ARE NO BREAKDOWN LANES IN THE TUNNEL). I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND RESTARTED IT AND WAS ABLE TO CONTINUE MY DRIVE TO MY DESTINATION.
