WHILE CHANGING MY REAR BRAKES LAST FRIDAY ON MY FORD EXPLORER I DECIDED TO CHECK MY SPARE TIRE WHICH HAPPENS TO BE A FIRESTONE ATX. TO MY SURPRISE THE TIRE HAD ACTUALLY "BLOWN-OUT" AND SEPERATED WHILE IN THE SPARE TIRE RACK UNDER MY VEHICLE. THIS TIRE HAS NOT BEEN ON MY VEHICLE SINCE JULY OF 1999 WHEN I PURCHASED FOUR NEW TIRES AND PUT THE BEST LOOKING TIRE IN THE SPARE TIRE RACK. I BELIEVE SOMEONE NEEDS TO LOOK AT THIS TIRE IN THE RACK AND DOCUMENT THIS BEFORE I REOMVE IT. THIS BACKS UP FORD'S CLAIM THAT IT IS THE TIRE, NOT THE VEHICLE THAT IS AT FAULT. YOU CAN SEE I HAVE NOT TAMPERED WITH TIS TIRE IN ANYWAY, THERE ARE NO FRESH MARKS ON THE SPARE TIRE SYSTEM SHOWING THE TIRE HAS NOT MOVED IN MANY MONTHS. (DOT NUMBER: B081 TIRESIZE: P235/75R15)
I HAD MY FIRESTONE ATX TIRES REPLACED BY SEARS. I SENT THE NECESSARY PAPER WORK TO FIRESTONE ON AUGUST 21, 2001 FOR REIMBURSEMENT. I HAVE CALL FIRESTONE TWICE SINCE I SENT THEM THE INFORMATION (OCTOBER 2, 2001 AND NOVEMBER 5, 2001). THEY HAVE ACKNOWLEDGE RECIEVING MY PAPER WORK, BUT I STILL HAVE NOT RECEIVE MY CHECK FROM FIRESTONE. THIS IS GOING ON FOR THREE MONTHS AND I STILL HAVE NOT RECIEVE A CHECK. I CALL FIRESTONE AND I GET NOTHING BUT A RUN-AROUND. I WOULD APPRECIATE ANY HELP. THANKS.*AK

CONSUMER REPLACED FIRESTONE ATX TIRES (P235/75R15), THEY HAD TROUBLE STAYING IN BALANCE EVEN AFTER ALIGNMENTS AND BALANCING, CONSUMER LEARNED OF RECALL 00T005 AND IS BEING DENIED DUE TO PURCHASING THE TIRES PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2000. *SLC
CONSUMER TURNED IN SPARE TIRE TO BE REPLACED UNDER RECALL 00T005, THE FIRESTONE ATX TIRE (P235/75R15) WAS DENIED REIMBURSEMENT DUE TO CONSUMER PURCHASING IT PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2000, CONSUMER ALSO HAD OTHER FIRESTONE TIRES (NO SPECIFIC TYPE) THAT WERE REPLACED DUE TO A TREAD SEPARATION, FIRESTONE DENIED REIMBURSEMENT FOR THESE TIRES BECAUSE THEY WEREN'T INCLUDED IN THE RECALL. *SLC
FIRESTONE ATX TIRES (P235/75R15) WERE REPLACED DUE TO EXCESSIVE SHAKING, CONSUMER REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM FIRESTONE, HOWEVER FIRESTONE REJECTED CLAIM DUE TO THE REPLACEMENT TIRES BEING PURCHASED PRIOR TO JANUARY 1, 2000. *SLC
WHILE DRIVING HOME FROM SANDIEGO, MY VEHICLE SEEMED VERY UNSTABLE. THREE DAYS EARLIER I HAD JUST HAD MY 4 MONTH OLD TIRES ROTATED, BALANCED AND ALIEGNED. IMMEDIATLY RETURNED TO DEALER TO BE TOLD I WAS LUCKY NOT TO HAVE A BLOW OUT, THAT THE PASSENGER SIDE REAR TIRE HAD A 10" BULGE ON THE INSIDE WALL. THEY REPLACED THE TIRE. 30 DAYS LATTER, I NOTICE A SIMILAR UNSTABLE RIDE, WENT BACK TO THE DEALER TO BE TOLD IT WAS NOW THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE TIRE WITH A SIMILAR DEFECT. THEY OFFERED TO REPLACE, I OPTED TO UPGRADE TO A MICHELLIN TIRE. 2 WEEKS LATTER, I NOTICE I AM MISSING A LUG NUT ON THE DRIVERS SIDE REAR TIRE. THE BIG "O" TIRE DEALER TELLS ME THE BOLT IS STRIPPED AND FORGOT TO TELL ME.*AK
WHILE DRIVING ON INTERSTATE HIGHWAY AT APPROX 65MPH IN HEAVY TRAFFIC, THE LEFT REAR TIRE, WITHOUT ANY WARNING VIBRATION/NOISE, PEELED OFF THE ENTIRE TREAD SIGNIFICANTLY DAMAGING THE LEFT REAR WHEEL WELL AND DECORATIVE MOLDING. TIRE SIDE WALL TOTALLY DISCONNECTED FROM THE THREAD AND BLEW OFF THE TIRE WHILE TRAVELING A 50MPH. TIRE BELT CAME APART.
TREAD SEPARATED FROM THE TIRE CAUSING DAMAGE TO THE FUEL FILLER PIPE, INSIDE FENDER WELL AND CRACKED THE PLASTIC TRIM ALONG THE REAR FENDER PANEL, CONSUMER REQUEST REIMBURSEMENT (FIRESTONE FIREHAWK P23570R/15). NLM
CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR FIRESTONE TIRE DUE TO NOISE PRIOR TO RECALL NOTICE 00T-005, THE ORIGINAL SPARE TIRE WAS RETURNED TO FIRESTONE AND FOUND TO BE INCLUDED IN THE RECALL NOW THE CONSUMER IS REQUESTING REIMBURSEMENT FOR THE FOUR ORIGINAL TIRES WHICH WERE REPLACED BELIEVING THEY WERE ALSO INCLUDED. WHILE DRIVING THE RIGHT FRONT TIRE DISINTEGRATED, THE CONSUMER REPLACED ALL FOUR TIRES AND REQUESTED REIMBURSEMENT FROM THE MANUFACTURER BUT WAS DENIED BECAUSE THE TIRES WERE REPLACED BEFORE THE RECALL WAS ISSUED (FIRESTONE ATX P235/75R15 RADIAL TIRES). NLM

I EXPERIENCED TWO DIFFERENT TIRE FAILURES WITHIN 2 WEEKS OF EACH OTHER, SEPTEMBER 1998. FIRST TIME, I WAS AWARE OF VIBRATION FRONT PASS. SIDE. TREAD WAS SEPARATING; REPLACED TIRE. TWO WEEKS LATER, THOUGHT I HAD FLAT ON DRIVER'S SIDE REAR TIRE. TREAD SEPARATED WHILE MOVING. FLAPPING TREAD DAMAGED THE WHEEL WELL LINER (BLACK PIECE). REPLACED TIRE AND TRIM.
MY ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT FIRESTONE TIRES WERE FOUND TO HAVE TREAD SEPARATION WHEN I BOUGHT THEM IN BECUASE OF EXCESSIVE WOBBLE. I HAD THESE 4 TIRES REPLACED ON MY OWN. NOW THERE HAVE RECALLED THESE SAME TIRES FOR THE EXACT ISSUE I HAD TO REPLACE THEM. I HAVE WRITTEN TO FIRESTONE AND COMPLETED ALL OF THEIR REIMBURSEMENT FORMS ONLY TO BE REJECTED SINCE MY REPLACEMENT WAS BEFORE THEIR RECALL. I DON'T UNDERSTAND HOW THEY CANNOT REIMBURESE ME FOR DEFECTIVE TIRES SIMPLY BECUASE I REPLACED THEM EARLIER. THE NHTSA SHOULD FORCE FIRESTONE INTO REIMBURSING ALL OWNERS OF THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES WHO HAD THEM REPLACED REGARDLESS OF WHEN THE REPLACEMENT TOOK PLACE. WE WERE IN JUST AS MUCH DANGER DRIVING ON THESE DEFECTIVE TIRES AS ANYONE WAS WHO HAD THEM REPLACED IN 2000 AND WAS ELIGIBLE FOR REIMBURSEMENT. HAD ARRIVED AT CEMETERY WHEN A KNOT WAS NOTICED IN RIGHT REAR TIRE. AFTER LEAVING CEMETERY & HEADED FOR HOME AT 55 MPH A LOUD BUMPING NOISE WAS HEARD. STARTED TO SLOW DOWN & THEN THERE WA SAN EXPLOSION. CENTER OF TIRE HAD LOST TREAD. THEN, WENT FLAT. PUT ON SPARE IN PLACE OF TREADLESS TIRE. DOES NOT HAVE TIRE.*AK
