ACCELERATION ( GAS STUCK OPEN AND CAUSED THE VEHICLE TO NOT TO BE CONTROLLED AND THE CAR JUMPED THE CURB AND HIT A CAR IN OPPOSITE SIDE OF THE ROADWAY). 1999 FORD EXPLORER SPORT
ACCELERATOR PEDAL BRACKET FALLS RIGHT OFF OF FIREWALL WHICH THEN THE VEHICLE LOOSES ALL ACCELERATION CAPABILITIES. ONLY THREE SPOT WELDS HOLD THIS BRACKET ONTO THE FIREWALL. THE SPOT WELDS SEEM INSUFFICIENT TO HOLD THE BRACKET ONTO THE FIREWALL. SOME WELDER EXPERTS STATE ON AUTO FORUMS THAT THE SPOT WELDS ARE NON-CONFORMING REGARDING THE REQUIRED DIAMETER OF A GOOD WELD. *TR
TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 60 MPH THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY DETACHED FROM THE VEHICLE. HE DROVE ONTO THE EMERGENCY LANE AND PARKED THE VEHICLE. WHILE THE VEHICLE WAS PARKED HE WAS ABLE TO MANEUVER THE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY INTO A POSITION WHERE HE WOULD STILL BE ABLE TO DRIVE. THE VEHICLE WAS THEN TAKEN TO AN INDEPENDENT REPAIR SHOP WHERE IT WAS TEMPORARILY REPAIRED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGES WERE 160,000. WHILE DRIVING DOWN THE HIGHWAY, THE GAS PEDAL FELL OFF THE FIREWALL . THE SPOTWELD ON THE BRACKET CAME APART, AND LEFT THE GAS PEDAL HANGING ON IT'S SIDE. *TR
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT STATED THE HE WAS PULLING INTO A PARKING SPACE WHEN THE VEHICLE CAUGHT ON FIRE. THE VEHICLE WAS INVESTIGATED THROUGH THE CONTACT'S INSURANCE COMPANY AND IT WAS DISCOVERED THAT THE FIRE ORIGINATED FROM THE CRUISE CONTROL WIRING. THE VEHICLE WAS DESTROYED. THE FAILURE AND CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 140,000.
MY DAD GAVE ME HIS 1999 FORD EXPLORER LAST YEAR AND IT WAS RUNNING FINE UNTIL WE WERE AWAKEN BECAUSE THE TRUCK WAS ON FIRE. WE CALLED 911 AND THE POLICE AND FIRE CAME OUT AND THE FIRE WAS PUT OUT BEFORE ANYTHING BUT THE TRUCK WAS DAMAGED AND ACCORDING TO THE INSURANCE COMPANY THE TRUCK IS TOTALED. WE NEVER GOT A RECALL NOTICE AND I WANTED TO FIND OUT IF FORD IS LIABLE IN ANY WAY? *TR THANKS

THE SPEED CONTROL WAS DISCONNECTED IN OCTOBER OF 2007. HE HAS CALLED FORD AT LEAST HALF A DOZEN TIMES CONCERNING PART AVAILABILITY AND WAS INFORMED EACH TIME THAT FORD HAD NOT YET RELEASED THE PARTS. TL*THE CONTACT OWNS A 1999 FORD EXPLORER. THE CONTACT RECEIVED A RECALL NOTICE FOR THE VEHICLE SPEED CONTROL IN DECEMBER OF 2007. IN MARCH OF 2008, HE TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE MECHANIC HAD THE VEHICLE FOR APPROXIMATELY TWO HOURS BEFORE GIVING IT BACK TO THE CONTACT. TWO DAYS AFTER THE REPAIR, THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO ACTIVATE THE CRUISE CONTROL, BUT NOTICED THAT IT WAS NOT WORKING. HE CALLED THE DEALER AND WAS INFORMED THAT THEY DID NOT HAVE THE PART FOR THE REPAIR; THEREFORE, THEY DISCONNECTED THE CRUISE CONTROL WITHOUT NOTIFYING HIM. THERE HAD BEEN NO FAILURE TO DATE. THE RECALL NUMBER WAS UNKNOWN. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 79,000.

FORD MOTOR HAS REQUESTED CUSTOMERS TO DISABLE CRUISE CONTROLS ON AFFECTED VEHICLE, BUT IT IS NOT MOVING PROMPTLY TO PROVIDE A SOLUTION. THIS RAISES QUESTION AS TO WHETHER OR NOT FORD MOTOR IS TRYING TO SAVE RECALL COST DUE TO ATTRITION OF AFFECTED VEHICLE OR TO CUSTOMERS GIVING UP ON THE PROCESS. THIS RECALL CAMPAIGN DOES NOT COMPLY WITH THE INTEND OF THE RECALL AGREEMENT SINCE NO COMPLETION TIME IS BEING ADHERED TO. *TR
I RECEIVED A RECALL LETTER FROM FORD MOTOR COMPANY IN JULY 2007 FOR A DEFECT IN THE CRUISE CONTROL OF MY 1999 FORD EXPLORER. PER THE RECALL INSTRUCTIONS I TOOK THE VEHICLE TO THE LOCAL FORD DEALER, JONES WEST FORD IN RENO, NV. RATHER THAN FIX THE DEFECT, JONES WEST FORD DISCONNECTED THE RECALL AND SAID THEY WOULD CALL ME WHEN THE PARTS CAME IN. OVER THE NEXT SEVEN MONTHS, AND DESPITE FIVE CALLS, TWO VISITS TO THE DEALER AND TWO CALLS TO THE FORD CORPORATE CUSTOMER SERVICE, FORD HAS REFUSED TO CORRECT THE DEFECT. *TR

FORD MOTOR COMPANY STILL HAS NOT PROVIDED NECESSARY REPLACEMENT PARTS TO CORRECT FUSED WIRING HARNESS (RECALL 05S28 ISSUED AUGUST 2007) THEY ADVISE IT WILL BE EARLY 2008 BEFORE PART BECOME AVAILABLE. 4+ MONTHS TO RESPOND TO A SERIOUS DEFECT IS EXCESSIVE, AND THE NATIONAL HIGHWAY TRAFFIC SAFETY ADMINISTRATION MUST ADDRESS AND PENALIZE FORD MOTOR COMPANY FOR THIS VERY SLOW RESPONSE TO A SERIOUS ISSUE. *TR

I HAVE A 1999 FORD EXPLORE. THE PROBLEM THAT I HAD WAS WHEN I WAS DRIVING UP A HILL GOING BELOW THE SPEED LIMIT WHILE NOT USING THE SPEED CONTROL MY FORD EXPLORE JUST STARTED TO ACCELERATE AT HIGH SPEEDS BY IT'S SELF. I COULD NOT SLOW IT DOWN. I THOUGHT THAT IT COULD HAVE BEEN THE SPEED CONTROL BUT NO LIGHT WAS ON AND I HIT THE OFF BUTTON SEVERAL TIMES. FINALLY I HAD TO PLACE IT IN NEUTRAL AND THE ENGINE WAS STILL ON ACCELERATION. I CALLED FORD AND THEY DID NOT HELP ME. THEN I HAD IT SENT TO A DEALERSHIP AND HAD THEM DOCUMENT WHAT WAS GOING ON WHICH THEY DID. THEY CHARGED ME SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS TO FIX IT AND I AM STILL HAVING PROBLEMS WITH IT. I AM SURE THAT I AM NOT THE ONLY PERSON THAT THIS HAS HAPPEN TOO, AND I AM WORRIED TO DRIVE MY CAR. *TR
