TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT STATED THAT WHILE DRIVING 60 MPH, THE VEHICLE STALLED. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO RESTARTED THE VEHICLE SEVERAL MINUTES LATER. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO A DEALER FOR DIAGNOSTIC TESTING AND THE TEST RESULTS DETERMINED THAT THERE WAS A DEFECTIVE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE DEALER REPLACED THE THROTTLE BODY ASSEMBLY. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 40,000. THE VIN WAS NOT AVAILABLE.

THERE WERE NO FURTHER REPAIRS. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 48,000. THE CURRENT MILEAGE WAS 52,369.

THE PROBLEM HAS TO DO WITH THE GAS PEDAL AND THROTTLE BODY. MERGED ON TO HIGHWAY, ACCELERATED TO SPEED, SET CRUISE. A FEW SECONDS LATER, CRUISE DISENGAGED AND SPEED BEGAN DROPPING. WHEN I PUSHED THE GAS PEDAL TO ATTEMPT TO ACCELERATE, THERE WAS NO RESPONSE. IT WAS IF THE CAR SHUT OFF BUT IT HADN'T. AFTER I CAME TO A STOP AND TRIED TO START MOVING AGAIN, THE GAS PEDAL AGAIN HAD NO RESPONSE AND I COULD ONLY MOVE AT THE SPEED THE CAR PULLED ITSELF AND IT SEEMED TO BE LURCHING FORWARD. I PULLED OVER AND THIS TIME SHUT THE CAR OFF. WHEN I RESTARTED IT, THE PROBLEM WAS GONE AND IT WORKED NORMALLY. THE NEXT DAY, SAME PROBLEM ALL OVER AGAIN, THIS TIME IN TOWN AT ABOUT 30MPH. MECHANIC TELLS ME IT'S A $468 REPAIR. I'M ONLY 6,000 MILES PAST THE WARRANTY PERIOD. I WAS ALSO TOLD THE PARTS ARE NATIONALLY OUT OF STOCK, WHICH IS A GOOD SIGN IT'S A KNOWN FORD DEFECT. *TR

WHILE DRIVING DOWN A BUSY STREET, GOING APPROXIMATELY 45-50 MPH, MY VEHICLE JUST STALLED OUT ON ME. ALTHOUGH THE CAR WAS STILL RUNNING, MY VEHICLE FELT LIKE IT WAS DRIFTING. WHEN I TRIED TO ACCELERATE, NOTHING HAPPENED. WHEN I APPLIED MY BRAKES, MY VEHICLE THEN JUMPED FORWARD, CAUSING ME TO ALMOST HIT THE VEHICLE IN FRONT OF ME. I HAD MY VEHICLE TOWED TO THE CLOSEST FORD DEALERSHIP, WHERE THEY ADVISED THAT MY THROTTLE BODY HAD GONE BAD AND NEEDED TO BE REPLACED. COME TO FIND OUT, THIS WAS NOT COVERED UNDER MY WARRANTY AND WILL COST ME OVER $500 OUT OF POCKET. MY VEHICLE ONLY HAS 41,000 MILES ON IT! *TR

TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2011 FORD FUSION. THE CONTACT WAS DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 65 MPH UPHILL WHEN A LOUD NOISE EMITTED OUTSIDE OF THE VEHICLE WITH A SUDDEN LOSS OF ENGINE POWER. THE CONTACT WAS ABLE TO COAST TO THE SHOULDER WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS TOWED TO AN AUTHORIZED DEALER FOR DIAGNOSIS. THE TECHNICIAN ADVISED THAT THE FAILURE WAS CONTRIBUTED TO THE ELECTRONIC THROTTLE BODY. THE FAULTY PART WAS REPLACED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOT NOTIFIED OF THE PROBLEM. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 33,658.

THE FIRST TIME IT HAPPENED I WAS ON A VERY BUSY HIGHWAY, GOING UP HILL, TO A FAMILY MEMBERS HOUSE. THE CAR STOPPED ACCELERATING. I WAS ALMOST HIT MY SEVERAL CARS, THANKFULLY THEY MISSED ME. THEN I TURNED THE CAR OFF AND THEN BACK ON AND IT WORKED FINE. THE SECOND INCIDENT HAPPENED A COUPLE DAYS LATER ON ANOTHER BUSY HIGHWAY ON MY HOME FROM WORK. ONCE AGAIN IT STOPPED ACCELERATING AND I WAS THANKFULLY CLOSE TO WERE I COULD PULL OFF THE INTERSTATE BEFORE GETTING HIT. I THEN TOOK IT TO THE FORD DEALERSHIP AND HAD TO SPEND ALMOST $600 ON REPLACING THE THROTTLE BODY, WHICH THEY KNEW HAD BEEN DEFECTIVE WHEN THEY SOLD ME THE CAR!! *TR

WITHOUT WARNING THE VEHICLE BEGAN SHAKING LOSING POWER. SECONDS LATER IT WOULD NOT ACCELERATE. I HAD TO STOP IN THE MIDDLE OF A BUSY INTERSECTION, PUT THE CAR IN PARK, AND RESTART IT. THIS RESOLVED THE ISSUE TEMPORARILY BUT CAUSED A VERY DANGEROUS SITUATION. IT HAS HAPPENED AGAIN AND THE MECHANIC'S THOUGHT IS THAT IT IS A PROBLEM WITH THE THROTTLE BODY AND IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE VEHICLE IS 2,000 MILES PAST THE MANUFACTURERS WARRANTY. SUCH AN UNSAFE SITUATION IS TERRIFYING AND FRUSTRATING, AS THE VEHICLE HAS UNDER 40,000 MILES ON IT. TODAY WAS THE FOURTH TIME MY ACCELERATOR FAILED TO WORK ON MY CAR. IT HAS HAPPENED ON THE HIGHWAY DOING 65 AND AT LOW SPEEDS. THE DEALER TELLS ME IT IS THE THROTTLE BODY AND THAT THEY ARE FAMILIAR WITH THE PROBLEM. THEY ALSO TELL ME IT WILL HAPPEN AGAIN. FORD MOTOR REFUSES TO FIX THE PROBLEM UNDER WARRANTY UNTIL THE DEALER CAN REPRODUCE THIS INTERMITTENT PROBLEM OR ITS COMPUTER SYSTEMS CONFIRMS A PROBLEM. NEITHER COULD BE DONE WHEN I TOOK THE CAR TO THE DEALER FOR REPAIR. THE INTERNET DEMONSTRATES OTHERS WITH THIS EXACT SAME PROBLEM. I AM WORRIED THAT THIS PROBLEM WILL REOCCUR IN AN INOPPORTUNE TIME CAUSING AN ACCIDENT AND INJURY. WHEN IT OCCURS, THE ACCELERATOR STOPS WORKING, BUT THE ENGINE IS STILL RUNNING.
