Driving down the road and the trunk popped open on its own. It has happened multiple times while driving. The trunk will just open up on its own without pushing the button or anything.
When I went to unload groceries from my 2014 Ford Fusion SE, the Driver side Rear door did not latch closed. Despite not latching, the warning that the door was open did not come on. I read that there was a recall back in 2020 for a similar issue in states that were subjected to warmer temperatures. I have not yet gotten the issue inspected but will be taking the car to a mechanic. NHTSA is welcome to inspect my car if given enough notice.
The contact owns a 2014 Ford Fusion. The contact stated that while the vehicle was parked and being inspected, the mechanic observed that the sway bar was not properly bolted. The vehicle was diagnosed by a dealer. The vehicle was not repaired. The manufacturer was notified of the failure. The failure mileage was approximately 130,129.
The driver's side door stopped latching today. Obviously, driving a car with a door that does not latch is a serious issue!
Trunk continues to unlatch and open on its own. It pops open when driving or parked and if vehicle is in motion causing things to fly out of trunk and hit other cars. I have had professionals look at it and it still doesn’t work. The trunk open indicator on the dash always clicks, lights up, and says trunk ajar.
Trunk opens while vehicle is in motion. Warning light will alert me the trunk is open but it has happened twice over the last week. My knee cannot reach the trunk open button and the key is a fob with a flip out key, so there is no way to have accidently hit the button on the fob while in motion. Nothing in the trunk is high enough to accidently pull the emergency latch.
I RECEIVED A WRITTEN NOTICE FROM FORD CORPORATE THAT MY VEHICLE WAS SUBJECT TO A RECALL CONCERNING DOOR LATCH SPRINGS. IT DIRECTED ME TO RECORD THE MODEL NUMBER OF EACH OF THE FOUR DOOR LATCHES. THIS I DID AND WAS FURTHER DIRECTED TO GO ONLINE TO WEB SITE TO RECORD THE NUMBERS. THE WEB SITE DOESN'T EXIST AND WHEN YOU GO THERE YOU GET A FAULT 404. WHEN I THEN CALLED MY LOCAL DEALER,FORD COUNTRY IN HENDERSON, NV THEY MADE ME AN APPOINTMENT FOR THEM TO CHECK THE LATCHES. WHEN I ARRIVED AT THE APPOINTED TIME, I WAS TOLD THAT I MUST LEAVE THE VEHICLE OVER NIGHT AS THERE WERE 18 OTHER VEHICLES AHEAD OF ME. WHY WOULD A DEALERSHIP SCHEDULE 19 VEHICLES AT THE SAME TIME FOR A VISUAL INSPECTION WHICH TOOK ME LESS THAN 15 MINUTES TO PERFORM?
I ATTEMPTED TO HAVE MY CAR REPAIRED UNDER RECALL 20V331 AND THE DEALER SAID THAT "THE RECALL IS FOR DOOR LATCHES THAT ARE NOT AVAILABLE YET". I WAS INFORMED THAT THERE IS NO TIMELINE FOR WHEN THE PARTS WILL BE AVAILABLE. THE RECALL SAYS THAT THIS IS TO VERIFY THAT WORK DONE ON 15S16 OR 16S30 WAS DONE CORRECTLY. WHAT IS THE POINT OF A RECALL IF THE COMPANY WON'T FIX THE PROBLEM?

IN SEPTEMBER 2019, DURING COMMUTE DRIVING THE BACK DOOR FROM THE DRIVERS SIDE SUDDENLY OPENED AND DID NOT CLOSE AGAIN. AT THE CAR SHOP, I WAS ADVISED THAT A MANUFACTURING ERROR IN THE LATCH DOOR WAS THE CAUSE. I FIXED IT AND I DO WANT A REFUND OF THE EXPENSES INCURRED. *TR
FAILURE TO LATCH DOORS. IN AUGUST 2019 DRIVERS DOOR OPENS DURING DRIVING AND DID NOT CLOSE. SINCE A YEAR BEFORE THIS HAPPENS IN PASSENGERS DOOR AND DUE TO THE DIFFICULTIES OF GETTING MY MONEY BACK FROM VIVA FORD, I DECIDE TO FIX IT. HOWEVER, IN MAY,2020 THE SAME FAILURE HAPPENED IN BACK DRIVER SIDE DOOR. I FIXED IT BUT I WANT A REFUND OF THE EXPENSES I HAD INCURRED. *TR
PARKED VEHICLE. OPENED REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR TO REMOVE ITEMS. CLOSE DOOR, AND WOULD NOT LATCH. MULTIPLE ATTEMPTS TO CLOSE AND LATCH. STILL WOULD NOT SECURE CLOSED. HAD A INDEPENDENT GARAGE REPAIR UNDER EXTENDED WARRANTY.
MY BACK DRIVERS SIDE DOOR LATCH CAME OPEN WHILE DRIVING. I WAS DRIVING ON A HIGHWAY. THE DOOR WOULDN'T STAY CLOSED AND HAD TO REPLACE MY DOOR LATCH ACTUATOR.

AS THE CONTACT ATTEMPTED TO PULL OFF OF THE ROADWAY, THE FRONT DRIVER'S SIDE DOOR SWUNG OPEN. THE VEHICLE WAS TAKE TO AN UNKNOWN FORD DEALER, LOCATED IN BRADENTON, FLORIDA, WHERE IT WAS STATED THAT THERE WAS NO RECALL ON THE VIN. THE MANUFACTURER WAS MADE AWARE OF THE FAILURE. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS APPROXIMATELY 29,000.
ON 6/29/17 I HAD A RECALL FOR THE DOOR LATCHES THEY WERE ALL REPLACED, I HAD 42,984 MILES, IN 2019 UNTIL NOW 2020 I HAVE COMPLAINED ABOUT MY DRIVER DOOR NOT LATCHING AND THE " DRIVER DOOR AJAR" MESSAGE APPEARS ON THE DASH I HAVE HAD A COUPLE OF TIMES WHERE I WAS DRIVING AND HAD TO PULL OFF TO CLOSE THE DOOR I TOOK IT A MONTH AGO WITH THIS COMPLAINT , BUT OF COURSE THEY COULDN'T DUPLICATE THE ISSUE, SO I CALLED A FORD REP CUSTOMER SERVICE, SHE SAID YOU HAVE TO TAKE IT TO THE DEALERSHIP I SAID I DID SEVERAL TIMES BUT IT DOESN'T DO IT FOR THEM, WELL NOW I SEE 2014 FORD FUSION IS HAVING ANOTHER RECALL FOR THE DOOR LATCHES BUT MINE ISN'T ONE OF THEM FOR THE RECALL, IT SHOULD BE BECAUSE I AND WHOEVER DRIVES MY CAR ARE IN DANGER OF THE DOOR FLYING OPEN AND SOMEONE FALLING OUT , SO I FEEL MY CAR SHOULD BE RECALLED AGAIN FOR FAULTY LATCHES

THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE FRONT PASSENGER DOOR FAILED TWICE, WHILE THE REAR PASSENGER DOOR ALSO EXPERIENCED A FAILURE. THE CONTACT TOOK THE VEHICLE TO POWER FORD LOCATED AT (1101 MONTAO RD NE, ALBUQUERQUE, NM 87107) AND THE VEHICLE WAS REPAIRED. THE CONTACT LINKED THE FAILURE TO NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V210000 (LATCHES/LOCKS/LINKAGES) WITH THE FAILURE. THE MANUFACTURER HAD BEEN NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND OFFERED NO ASSISTANCE. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 44,800.
THE PASSENGER DOOR SWUNG OPEN AS I WAS DRIVING. THEN ONCE I STOPPED THE DOOR WOULD NOT CLOSE WHEN I TRIED CLOSING IT. *TR
THE PASSENGER DOOR WONT LATCH ON. I OPENED IT TO GET OUT AND AS I CLOSED THE DOOR IT STAYED OPEN, I TRIED AGAIN AND IT DID NOT WANT TO WORK, I FIGURED THE LATCH MIGHT OF GONE BAD AND I CHECKED AND SEVERAL FUSION HAD RECALLS FOR THIS BUT MINE DID NOT.
IN A PREVIOUS RECALL FOR CERTAIN FOR FUSIONS MANUFACTURED FOR 2013 MODEL YEAR TO 31-OCT-2013. WE FIND THAT THE EXACT ISSUE/PROBLEM FOR WHICH THE FUSION WAS RECALLED IS EFFECTING OUR 2014 IN THE SAME EXACT WAY. *DT*JB IN ALL OF THE AFFECTED VEHICLES, THE DOOR LATCHES HAVE A PAWL SPRING TAB THAT MAY BREAK. THIS CONDITION WILL TYPICALLY PREVENT THE DOOR FROM LATCHING. IN CERTAIN SITUATIONS WHERE THE DOOR IS ABLE TO BE CLOSED, THE DOOR MAY UNLATCH WHILE DRIVING, INCREASING THE RISK OF INJURY. WHEN WE CALLED OUR LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP WE WERE DIRECTED TO CALL FORDS CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS DEPARTMENT. WE WERE INFORMED OUR VEHICLE DID NOT HAVE THAT RECALL AND NOTHING COULD BE DONE IN LUE OF FIXING OUR ISSUE BY REPLACING THE DOORS LATCH. OUR PARTICULAR DOOR EFFECTED IS THE RIGHT, PASSENGER REAR. WE DID HAVE THE ISSUE REPAIRED BY A LICENSED AUTO SHOP. BUT THE FACT THAT THE SAME ISSUE, WHICH HAD A RECALL BY FORD, WAS TURNED DOWN AND NOT EVEN SUGGESTED TO HAVE A DEALERSHIP LOOK AT THE ISSUE AND REPORT BACK TO FORD CUSTOMER SOLUTIONS A COMPLETE INFORMED REPORT TO UNDERSTAND THE ISSUE AT HAND WOULD BE THE LEAST THEY COULD DO WITH REGARDS TO THE CUSTOMERS SAFETY. THE CURRENT RECALL CLEARLY EFFECTS MORE VEHICLES THAN FORD HAS EXPECTED. THIS IS WHY WE ARE REPORTING THIS ISSUE.

THE CONTACT CALLED CAPITAL FORD LINCOLN OF ROCKY MOUNT (2012 STONE ROSE DR, ROCKY MOUNT, NC 27804, (252) 977-1234) FROM WHERE THE VEHICLE WAS PURCHASED; HOWEVER, A RESPONSE WAS NOT RECEIVED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 95,000.

THE CONTACT CALLED BARBER FORD (LOCATED AT 640 E 8TH ST, HOLLAND, MI 49423, (616) 396-2361) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS NOT INCLUDED IN A RECALL. THE CONTACT ALSO CALLED BORGMAN FORD MAZDA (LOCATED AT 3150 28TH ST SW, GRANDVILLE, MI 49418, (616) 534-7651) AND WAS INFORMED THAT THE VIN WAS A SALVAGE TITLE AND WAS NOT ELIGIBLE FOR THE REPAIR. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT TAKEN TO A DEALER AND WAS NOT REPAIRED. THE MANUFACTURER WAS NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE AND REFERRED THE CONTACT TO NHTSA. THE APPROXIMATE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 80,000.
DOOR DOES NOT LATCH WHEN CLOSING.
10/3/19 MY 17 YEARS OLD DAUGHTER DROVE HER 2014 FORD FUSION HOME TO CHANGE FOR WORK. UPON LEAVING TO DRIVE TO WORK HER DRIVER DOOR WOULD NOT LATCH TO STAY CLOSED. CALLED THE LOCAL FORD DEALERSHIP TO BE TOLD THE VIN NUMBER WAS NOT PART OF A RECALL. HAD THE DOOR FIXED WITH A RELIABLE MECHANIC, $386.59. PICKED THE CAR UP ON 10/6/19. MY DAUGHTER DROVE TO A FRIEND'S HOUSE, PICKING UP TWO FRIEND'S, ONE RIDING IN THE FRONT PASSENGER SIDE AND THE OTHER IN THE REAR DRIVER SIDE. WHILE MAKING A TURN, THE REAR DRIVER SIDE DOOR FLEW OPEN WHILE DRIVING IN THE RESIDENTIAL NEIGHBORHOOD, STARTLING HER FRIEND. THANKFULLY, THEY HAD NOT GOTTEN TO THE HIGHWAY YET! ANOTHER RETURN TRIP TO THE MECHANIC, $594.66. I AM AWARE OF ISSUES WITH FORD FUSION AND LINCOLN MKZ FROM 2013 TO 2014 AND FORD FIESTA FROM 2011 TO 2014 REGARDING DEFECTIVE LATCHES ALLOWING DOORS TO OPEN UNEXPECTEDLY. IF THIS IS A CONCERN WITH THE NHTSA TO TAKE SAFETY PRECAUTIONS, WHY IS OUR VIN NOT PART OF A RECALL? CLEARLY IT IS A KNOWN PROBLEM WITH FORD AND WE SHOULD BE PROTECTED BY THEM. ATTACHED ARE PHOTOS OF THE DEFECTIVE PART MISSING THE PLASTIC PIECE TO HOLD THE BOLT IN PLACE TO SECURE THE DOOR TO BE CLOSED. TO HAVE THIS HAPPEN TO TWO DOORS WITHIN DAYS OF EACH OTHER AND NOT TO BE A PART OF A RECALL IS UNACCEPTABLE. WHAT'S IT GOING TO TAKE, A SERIOUS INJURY OR DEATH??*DT *TP
TL* THE CONTACT OWNS A 2014 FORD FUSION. WHILE DRIVING APPROXIMATELY 50 MPH, ONE OF THE REAR DOORS SUDDENLY OPENED ON ITS OWN. AFTER STOPPING THE VEHICLE, THE DRIVER DISCOVERED THAT THE DOOR WOULD NOT REMAIN CLOSED. THE VEHICLE WAS NOT DIAGNOSED OR REPAIRED. COSA FORD (5815 MONTANA AVE, EL PASO, TX) AND THE MANUFACTURER WERE NOTIFIED OF THE FAILURE. THE CONTACT WAS INFORMED THAT THE VEHICLE WAS NOT INCLUDED IN NHTSA CAMPAIGN NUMBER: 17V210000 (STRUCTURE). THE CONTACT STATED THAT THE VEHICLE EXPERIENCED THE SAME FAILURE LISTED IN THE RECALL. THE FAILURE MILEAGE WAS 69,858.
I WAS DRIVING MY FATHER TO THE STORE AND WHEN I TURNED A CORNER HIS PASSENGER DOOR FLEW OPEN. THANKS TO HIS SEAT BELT HE REMAINED IN THE CAR. DIDN'T SEEM THE SAFEST THING, BUT HE HAD TO HOLD IT SHUT UNTIL WE GOT HOME. DOOR LATCH SEAMS TO BE BROKEN AS IT WILL NO LONGER LATCH SHUT. (CAR WAS IN MOTION ON A CITY STREET IN TRAFFIC MAKING A LEFT TURN AT A STOPLIGHT.
