When putting my vehicle in PARK and pressing the button to shut off my car, a warning appears on the dashboard saying “WARNING: PUT VEHICLE IN PARK.” & it is in park. I have to wiggle the gear shifter in order for the warning to go away and if it won’t go away, then my car won’t turn off. There was a recall on it in 2018 & I need mine fixed. Somehow, my vehicle was not apart of the recall but it needs to be. [XXX] INFORMATION REDACTED PURSUANT TO THE FREEDOM OF INFORMATION ACT (FOIA), 5 U.S.C. 552(B)(6)
When you go to park the car and put it in park the car says shift to park with it already being in park. It is concerning that the vehicle is not recognizing it being in park
Vehicle is in park, and the shft sensor does not recognize the shifter is in park. Won't let you turn off rhe car.
Shift to park error message when in park.
Unknown 3rd brake light leaking water inside. Health Concern due to mold.
The part broke on my vehicle. Part is on national backorder. I'm expected to be without a vehicle til mid December. I was told no one in the state of Louisiana has the part. This has to be affecting a lot of vehicles if this is true. I love my GMC and I hope they make this right. Radiator surge tank inlet hose is the GM part.
When the vehicle is in park and you try to turn it off with the start/stop button an on dash error code of ‘Shift to Park’ appears even though the vehicle is clearly in park. You are not able to turn the vehicle off. I am scheduled to take the vehicle in for service on 1/11/24. This currently is forcing me to restart the engine, put my car in reverse, shift back in drive, try re-parking and turning it off again, repeating the process until it eventually turns off. I do not know if my car is truly in gear or not. I’m afraid that it might cause a dangerous situation.
Shift to park sign appears and doesn’t disappear until I turn and off the car multiple times. It’s been retuning problem for the past two months.
Backup camera stays on while driving forward
What component or system failed or malfunctioned, and is it available for inspection upon request? The Infotainment system continuously changes screens without being touched. No matter what screen is displayed, it will change on it's own to various other screens. How was your safety or the safety of others put at risk? While I was driving I was using my GPS via CarPlay and the directions were displayed on the Infotainment screen. The screen started changing to other screens and at one point changed to the back up camera. I was almost in an accident because I was unable to see the directions and frightened and confused when the back up camera appeared while I was going forward on the highway. Has the problem been reproduced or confirmed by a dealer or independent service center? Yes, I took the car to the dealership while it was still under warranty and they told me it was due to me using CarPlay and that my iPhone just needed to be updated. I updated my phone and the problem never went away. So now I've stopped using CarPlay and the problem is still occurring. Has the vehicle or component been inspected by the manufacturer, police, insurance representatives or others? Only the dealership. Were there any warning lamps, messages or other symptoms of the problem prior to the failure, and when did they first appear? No warnings. The problem first appeared in late 2020 early 2021. I have a video recording of the issue as well. Also when I Google the issue lots of other owners are complaining of the same issue.
My vehicle didn't shift into park all the way or the ADAS didn't register it. I would have to hit it quite hard with my palm to make it register. This happened for 3 months straight and finally stopped as sudden as it started. I tried to report it to GMC and was told there wasn't such an issue.
When putting vehicle in park, it doesn’t always sense it is in park. Will sometimes have to move it back and forth for a couple of minutes.
Shift to park issue. Car will not go into park. Car will not shut off. Sometimes shifting back and forth or jiggling the shifter will work. Dealer replaced shifter assembly at a cost to me of $777. This was done last week. So far so good, but GMC knew about this problem for quite a while.
I would put my car in park but it would not let me turn the engine off, I would put it back in drive and then park again but it wouldn’t let me turn the engine off. I displayed a message that I needed to put the car in park. I repeated the process and then later it would let me turn the engine off. This happened several times. I took it to my car dealer and they fixed the problem but I had to pay for the repair. They said if there was a recall, they would refund my money. I saw where this same problem was a recall for my vehicle up to 2018. My car is a 2019.
There is a shift to park issue. When I place the shifter into park and the car is in park, I turn the vehicle off and I have a message action required “shift to park”
Shift to Park car would not turn off. Had to start car, then go forward and reverse several time so the vehicle would finally recognize it was in park. - this has been going on for almost one year on and off. “Steering Assist is Reduced Drive with Care” making it hard to steer. The get Service “Stabilitrak”, “Side Detection Temporarily Unavailable”, All Wheel Drive Off, “Battery Saver Activated”, Services “Battery Charging System.” All lights went out and the car went dark! I was unable to drive the car, had to be towed. - this has happens twice. The first time was on October 2023, the mechanic put in a new alternator, thinking this was the problem. The second time happened 11/29/2023, mechanic is still trying to diagnose the problem/problems. This car has left me stranded and in fear to drive it due to the fact that I lose all vehicle driving ability!! It
A week ago my car started having an alert on the dash saying “shift to park” when I was already presumed to be in parked. I was worried because the car wouldn’t turn off and stayed on dinging. I couldn’t leave my car because it was on (possibly having battery die or doors won’t lock, etc.) I researched it and it showed many GMC Acadias have done this and previous models has recalls. As a result, the vehicle could roll away once you get out of it, putting you and the people around in great danger. Also, you may not be able to restart the vehicle once the 'Shift to Park' message is displayed, making it a terrible inconvenience especially when you're in a hurry. I took my car in to be serviced and they said it was that I needed a “new shifter assembly” so $670 later and after reading that this is what mechanics first step is, but essentially may not even fix the problem kind of terrifies me. A recent recall report says that GM does not currently have a fix for the Shift to Park issue just yet, however, it does have fixes for "Shift to Park" messages that can appear in affected Acadia vehicles that are already in PARK On October 3, 2018, GM released a TSB entitled "Message Displaying Shift to Park When in Park" which instructed technicians to correct the defect by replacing the transmission control shift assembly. While there are some fixes for "Shift to Park" messages, GM still has no fix for the actual Shift to Park issue. What do we do? Pay a large fee for a possible half fixed issue?
Several times we were unable to put the vehicle in park which would not allow the car to be cut off. I went on line to read reviews about this kind of problem and found bulletin 19-NA-206 describing the shifter assembly as a common problem on this vehicle. A Gen shifter harness was replaced at a cos of $589 with a two year warranty and was told that this will probably happen again. (Gen Shifter Harness) We are now afraid to take trips now because we use to make many stops in small towns to visit relatives. My wife wants to get another kind of vehicle because of this problem. We have purchased four cadillacs and two GMC vehicles from Coulter Cadillac but no problems with the Cadillacs.
When vehicle is put into park and you go to shut off the car it gives a message to shift to park. Diagnosis reveled that there is a service bulletin SB#19-NA206 which tells the mechanic to replace the the shift control assembly and add jumper harness to cure shift to park message when vehicle is turned off. Previous years of this vehicle model were covered under recall . This model year should also be under recall for this problem.
“Shift to park” message frequently appears and unable to turn vehicle off, will drain battery if left on. First appeared infrequent within 1st year of lease, brought to dealership service, they were unable to reproduce and stated they did not know what was wrong with vehicle if they couldn’t reproduce the message. Fast forward 4 years, I have now purchased the vehicle and message and condition appears very frequent almost daily. Returned to dealer service was advised by customer service manager “ I know exactly what it is it is in the gear shift” but since car is no longer in warranty I would have to pay out of pocket. I attempted to explain that I did I bring it back when it would have been on warranted and was told they couldn’t find anything wrong!!! I have replaced battery multiple times due to power drain from not being able to clear “shift to park” message. Last battery lasted less then 1 year!! I feel GMC is aware of the issue and did not take care of problem when it was under warranty and is now forcing the finiancal burden to replace/repair parts to me!!!
Get the message "shift to park" The car is parked but it is not recognizing that it is in fact parked. It makes it impossible to exit the vehicle and turn it off. To get the message disappear and exit the car the gear has to be wiggled. I checked this online and previous GMC vehicles were recalled because of this. And it has a possibility of hurting the transmission as well. This happens quite often. So there no exact date.
I am getting a warning message to “shift to park” when I am already in park. I have to shift back and forth for the message to go away and am not confident if the suv is in gear or not. This apparently is happening with many GMC Acadias.
When trying to turn car off, shift into park, and a message is on the driver screen to "shift to park". The car is already in park. The car will not stop running unless the "shift to park" message is gone. After looking on internet, was able to toggle the shift gear button to remove the "shift to park" message. This started about 4 months ago, it did not happen all of the time. At first, I would have to attempt to restart the car, and then try to turn car off. After investigating this on the internet, was able to turn car off by toggling the gear shift button. This problem was not a surprise to the car dealership. Apparently it is a common problem, and a recalls have been made by GMC for this issue, but not for the year of my car. My car was no longer under warranty, so had to pay $348.04 to fix this.
Shift to Park is not working properly. Have to start engine and shift to park as much as three times to get the light to go off and radio and bells to quit dinging. I can't tell if car is in park or not and could be dangerous to leave it.
Car wont shut off..displays shift to park. Had to turn car off a handful of times before i got it to turn off.
